Joash Ombati The Brave Police Officer Who Took On Two Thugs And Recovered Sh400,000 Feted

Two suspects, Sameer Abdulaziz Kassim and Peter Kavoli Musili had posed as traders of construction materials on OLX.

They reportedly duped Amos Charo Saroan, an unsuspecting customer from Voi then robbed him.

Amos Charo traveled from Voi and met the duo in Nairobi CBD, then drove towards Westlands but he was pushed out of the speeding car after giving them KSh 732,000, an incident witnessed by Ombati.

Administration Police Constable Joash Ombati who was guarding a bank nearby, boarded a taxi to chase after the suspects.

    Ombati receives his promotion.

The Police officer shot in the air forcing the thieves to surrender before he handcuffed them as members of the public watched with many urging him to shoot dead the suspects.

Mr. Ombati remained calm even as a furious mob urged him to shoot and kill.

He managed to recover Sh400,000 which was part of the Sh732,000 that the suspects had stolen from the complainant Mr Amos Charo.

Ombati would then be awarded by Interior CS Matiang’i for his bravery the government was given the heroic AP a Distinguished Service Award in November 2018 barely a month after his commendable work.

That wasn’t the end, Joash Ombati who single-handedly pursued two thugs in Nairobi and recovered KSh 400,000 has just been promoted to the rank of Corporal from being a AP Constable.

Grace Msalame Sues Uganda’s Tourism Board For Illegaly Using Her Curvy Photos To Promote Sex Tourism

Uganda’s Ministry of Tourism unveiled a beauty pageant dubbed ‘Miss Curvy Uganda’ in a bid to promote tourism in the country, the ministry decided to use Kenya’s media personality Grace Msalame as the official face of their Miss Curvy Uganda contest without her knowledge. Whether it was a mistake or deliberate is unknown but now they’ll have to prove it in court.

Grace a media personality in Kenya has distanced herself from the beauty pageant saying she was never part of the program neither did she give consent for her photo to be used in the promotion.

    The promotion poster.

In a statement, Msalame says, “I take great exception for the fact that my image and likeliness are being used to propagate, disseminate and encourage objectification of women. I don’t agree nor endorse such a message or anyone who’s a creator of the idea that women’s body are tourist attraction sites.”

The media personality claims that her brand has been immensely hit following the publications of her images. “Miss Curvy Uganda’s deliberate and calculated use of my image and likeliness to promote violation of women’s bodies had defamed my character and reputation damaged a brand that I’ve worked for so many years to establish, and subjected me to unwarranted and undeserved cyber bullying.” She says in her statement.

  • Club Associated With CS Echesa’s Deported Exotic Dancers Now Wants State To Pay Them Sh48M

Club Associated With CS Echesa’s Deported Exotic Dancers Now Wants State To Pay Them Sh48M

Balle Balle Club In Parklands that flew in the eight deported Pakistani women is now suing the state over the deportation of the dancers by police infringed on its rights and business. The club is seeking to be compensated with Sh48M which they claim was lost as a result of the deportation.

Arguing their case before Justice Luka Kimaru, the club represented by lawyer Evans Ondieki told the court that the dancers had been issued with special permits by the Sports CS Rashid Echesa to perform at the Balle Balle Club during the festive season but were arrested and detained illegally by police.

The court also heard, the girls were bundled out of the club and detained for 36 hours without bathing, which was a violation of their basic rights. They were held as investigations looked into the circumstances and validity of the permits issued by the CS who was alleged to have been involved in the human trafficking racket.

Earlier, the lawyers had sought for the court to compel CS Echesa and Matiang’i to personally compensate the deported girls despite having a standing order to produce them in court. The courts excused the CSs from the Sh9.1M fine and instead summoned detectives who gave out the girls to different state despite the case having been lodged in.

The club is now seeking orders restraining the DCI, DPP and Transnational Organised Crime Unit from entering, harassing, intimidating, arresting or doing anything prejudicial to its directors.

KMPDU’s Sec Gen Dr Oluga Elected As The World’s Doctors President

Dr. Ouma Oluga who’s the KMPDU Secretary General was elected on Monday 28/01/2019 as Co-Chairman of the Health Workers 4 All Coalition alongside Ms Amanda Banda from Wemos – Amsterdam.

Health Workers 4 All Coalition is a global initiative formed during the 71st World Health Assembly last year. The coalition advocates for universal access to skilled health workers everywhere in the world. The membership is drawn from International Council of Nurses, WMA, Public Service International, Wemos, Solthis, MSF, Ecumenical Pharmaceutical Network, Amref Health Africa amongst 29 other international and regional organizations in academia, civil society, unionism and professional associations working with or on Human Resources for Health.

The Co-Chairs are charged with strategic leadership of the coalition, increasing membership and lobbying governments to invest in HRH and guarantee everyone everywhere the right to access a skilled health worker.

This development grants KMPDU the opportunity to accelerate advocacy efforts that promote absorption of skilled health workers into the health system locally especially as Kenya gears to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

Dr. Ouma Oluga grew up lacking basic healthcare because facilities and health workers were not available to attend to him and his family. When he graduated with a Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from Moi University’s school of Medicine in 2010, Dr. Oluga decided to remain in his country to champion the rights of all health workers at a time doctors were migrating out of Kenya. He is deeply convicted that access to a well-trained and well-motivated health worker guarantees access to health as a human right.

Dr. Oluga has led the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) as the Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer for 4 years. He was the KMPDU Western Branch Secretary for two years prior. He is Kenya’s leading public healthcare advocate with a convincing following by majority Kenyan public and an admirable high approval from Kenyan health workers. He is creditedfor uniting Kenyan doctors, improving employment terms and influence of doctors and igniting health conversations.

Dr. Oluga was jailed in February 2017 for leading a 100 days nationwide doctors’ strike over a labour dispute between Doctors and the Kenya government. In the days prior to incarceration, he rallied doctors and the public to champion for more employment of health workers, health workers’ support and specialized training, improved terms of service for health workers and equipping of public health facilities. Hesuccessfully signed the first ever public health sector agreementsbetween KMPDU and the 47 devolved governments and also the National Government after a high level engagement with the President of the Republic of Kenya.

Due to his commitment, integrity and consistency, Dr. Oluga’ssphere of influence has expanded beyond Kenyan health workforce to include University Lecturers, Government Officers, Pilots Association, Civil Society Organizations and Youth Organizations. • Harvard Study Shows Men Who Smoke Marijuana Are More Fertile

Harvard Study Shows Men Who Smoke Marijuana Are More Fertile

There’s plenty of research showing that marijuana can improve things in the bedroom, but it’s not as clear whether it has the same effect in your pants. Studies about the effect of marijuana use on sperm count have had mixed results, at best. Guys who smoke weed, however, can take comfort in the findings of a large study published by Harvard University scientists on Tuesday. The sperm of marijuana smokers, it seems, is alright. Maybe even more than alright.

As the research team writes in the Human Reproduction study, the men who had smoked one or two joints of marijuana at least once in their lifetimes had a sperm count and concentration that was significantly higher than that of people who had never smoked marijuana in their lives, which is generally a good thing for a man’s fertility. More intense marijuana users also appeared to have higher levels of the sex hormone testosterone as well.

“Our findings were contrary to what we initially hypothesized,” said Feiby Nassan, Ph.D., the study’s lead author and research fellow at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Previous research on marijuana smoking had suggested that doing so lowered sperm counts. Previous studies had strongly suggested that marijuana use lowers sperm count and concentration.

    Not What They Expected

That didn’t appear to be the case for the 662 men who submitted 1,143 semen samples to the Fertility Center at Massachusetts General Hospital between 2000 and 2017. All of the men completed a self-reported questionnaire about their previous and current marijuana use. Their answers, combined with the team’s analysis of the samples, revealed that past or present marijuana use didn’t have a negative effect on sperm concentration and count at all.

In total, the 365 men who had ever smoked marijuana had significantly higher sperm concentration than the 297 men who had never done so. Furthermore, there weren’t any statistically significant differences in sperm concentration between men who currently smoked weed and those who did in the past.

In addition, 316 men involved in the study gave blood samples on the same day they gave their first semen sample. Those from the marijuana smokers showed they had less follicle stimulating hormones (FSH, which is critical for sperm growth) in their blood. However, those who had “more intense use” of marijuana had significantly higher concentrations of testosterone (which is also needed for sperm development).

A weekly dose of news you can use to help you make smarter decisions and reap the benefits.

    Two Possible Explanations

These results are the exact opposite of what their hypothesis predicted, but they aren’t inexplicable.

“However, they are consistent with two different interpretations,” said Nassan, “the first being that low levels of marijuana use could benefit sperm production because of its effect on the endocannabinoid system, which is known to play a role in fertility, but those benefits are lost with higher levels of marijuana consumption.”

In other words, the amount of weed you smoke matters. Previous studies showing marijuana’s negative effects on sperm didn’t only focus on people who’d smoked once or twice in their lives.

“An equally plausible interpretation,” she continued, “is that our findings could reflect the fact that men with higher testosterone levels are more likely to engage in risk-seeking behaviors, including smoking marijuana.”

This latter explanation is a reminder not to be too hasty in drawing conclusions from this study. Though it provides evidence that marijuana doesn’t hurt sperm count or concentration, there are other effects we may not be aware of yet — for example, marijuana’s effect on sperm gene expression, which scientists documented in a previous study.

Furthermore, the team points out, seeing as the majority of the participants were white, university-educated men who weren’t tobacco users, there’s no guarantee the findings will apply to everyone. And finally, there’s the chance that these men weren’t totally truthful about how much marijuana they used — weed was mostly illegal from 2000 to 2017, after all.

“Our results need to be interpreted with caution,” said Harvard T.H. Chan School associate professor of nutrition and epidemiology Jorge Chavarro, Ph.D., “and they highlight the need to further study the health effects of marijuana use.”

Weed is still illegal in Kenya even though there are efforts by legislators like Kibra’s Ken Okoth to have the herb legalized.

  • Lawyer Ahmednasir Trade Jabs With Uhuru’s Former Hotel Manager Mohammed Hersi Over CJ Maraga’s Reshuffling

Lawyer Ahmednasir Trade Jabs With Uhuru’s Former Hotel Manager Mohammed Hersi Over CJ Maraga’s Reshuffling

Grandmula as he’s popularly known, has made a name outside the courts over his outspoken nature. The Senior Counsel who has made a name for himself as the go to lawyer in town, doesn’t shy away to speak his mind on matters politics and judiciary.

One of the lawyers who represented Jubilee during the presidential petition by ODM that saw elections overturned by the Supreme Court, Ahmednasir has also been a jelly critic to the government lately. He was recently quoted on government’s reversal of the car-free day suggestion, “A classic jubilee government policy capitulation…little thinking, little planning, no public participation, knee-jerk reaction to a problem…then quick withdrawal after criticism.” He said.

Chief Justice David Maraga on Monday announced the transfer of five judges including Chacha Mwita, who has left the Constitutional and Human Rights Division for the Kajiado High Court, where he will be Presiding Judge.

The others who have been moved, effective March 1, are as follows:

    1. Wilfrida Okwany – from Constitutional and Human Rights Division to Commercial and Tax Division
    2. James Aaron Makau – from Commercial and Tax Division to the Constitutional and Human Rights Division
    3. Weldon Kori – from Malindi High Court to the Constitutional and Human Rights Division.
    4. Reuben Nyakundi – from the Kajiado High Court where he was the Presiding Judge to the Malindi High Court where he will hold the same position.

Both Justice Mwita and Justice Okwanya had both participated in suspending Government’s controversial Cyber Crime Act, which provided for criminal punishment to anyone who posted any information thought to be a slur on social media and the main stream media.

Justice Mwita suspended implementation of 22 sections of the cybercrime law last year and when the Government moved to Justice Okwany seeking to lift the temporally orders she declined.

President Uhuru Kenyatta taunted Justice Maraga last month after he raised his irritation about bloggers who were tainting the image of the Judiciary and himself on social media.

The President told him to get used to the annoying comments as it was the judiciary which frustrated efforts to tame bloggers.

Justice Mwita also stopped Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji from prosecuting Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu until her case is heard and determined.

    Mohammed Hersi

Reacting to these changes, Ahmednasir called out the CJ for succumbing to the executive’s pressure. “CJ Maraga in move seen by observers to appease the Executive dismantles the Constitutional & Human Rights Division and other divisions of the High Court and appoints judges acceptable to the Executive.” Says Ahmednasir.

He continues, “CJ has an ABSOLUTE prerogative when it comes to transfer of judges but when he fiddles with the Constitutional & Human Rights division of the High Court every 2 years, we smell a rat…and RIGHTLY suspect the CJ is giving in to pressure from the state to scuttle this COURT.”

Mohammed Hersi, a veteran hotelier and former head to the Kenyatta family-owned Heritage Hotels East Africa Group, the hotels group owns the Voyager Resort in Mombasa and Tsavo, Interpids camps in Samburu and Maasai Mara as well as the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, responded.

While replying to Ahmednasir, Hersi was in support of the CJ’s decision, “Good move by @dkmaraga  who is independent minded. Please let him do his work. If anything we want the whole swamp drained .” He said to which the rattled lawyer responded immediately, “Jack of all trades…concentrate on good housekeeping…and clean beaches…” in a bid to silence his opinion given then he doesn’t have a legal background.

Hersi wasn’t going down without a fight and responded, “Oh yes CJ is indeed doing very good HOUSEKEEPING . I haven’t heard him ask you for help while you are record bashing him day in day out.  On the other hand good clean  beach is key to a thriving tourism destination. We bring the Forex to help you pay for your Brioni.” He fired at Ahmednasir.

With no signs of ceasefire, the lawyer brought out his arsenal, “Told you1000 times…concentrate on what you know best..housekeeping, clean rooms, nice food, friendly front office, clean swimming pool, etc. Mambo ya judiciary leave it to the experts…imagine how ridiculous I sound if I engage you on how to make a nice clean bed for your guests.” He shot!

Hersi then landed another jab, “No worries I am very happy as a hotelier.  Many Kenyans are supporting The CJ in the changes he is making and everyone is free to comment.  When CJ does not make a  change you complain , when he makes a move you are again the first to complain. Let CJ be he is serving Kenyans .”

Who in your opinion carried the day in this ‘war?’

  • Gospel Artists HopeKid And DK Kwenye Beat Admits To Sleeping And Infecting A Lady With STI As Porn Bit Surfaces

Gospel Artists HopeKid And DK Kwenye Beat Admits To Sleeping And Infecting A Lady With STI As Porn Bit Surfaces

New details continue to emerge in what is a circle of sex scandals rocking Kenya’s gospel industry. An anonymous lady had exposed famous gospel artists;HopeKid and DK Kwenye Beat for having lured her into an orgy.

According to the unnamed lady, she had something going on with HopeKid who then invited her to his house so she traveled from Nakuru to Nairobi for sex with the youthful artist. Things took a quick turn when HopeKid came to pick her in the company of DK.

Imstead of going to HopeKid’s house, he drove her to DK’s where they both slept with her in turns. The young lady who narrates her past as having been sexually abused by her relatives and describing herself as a sexual wreck, would later start off another relationship with DK.

Again, the met separately with DK and this time slept without protection and says it’s here that she contracted herpes. She’s been on treatment ever since so she says. While there’s no reported case on the same, the lady insists the threesome wasn’t consensual and that she was raped by the two artists.

    While many had cast doubts on the accusations, the two artists seemed to have admitted having done the awful act with their apologies. This game hours after the story went viral on social media;

    DK Kwenye Beat

DKKWENYEBEAT: Following the story going around, I would like first and foremost to repent to God Almighty for living a life of sin. Secondly I would wish to apologize to my girlfriend who has been nothing but supportive to me especially during this difficult season. I would also wish to apologize to the church fraternity, my family, everyone who consumes my music and anyone who looks up to me Am Sorry.

I am not a perfect man. I am a fallen man but one that God is working on every day. I am a changed man from what I was back then. I am working my salvation with fear and trembling. Sadly this story has come out when I am on my way to complete reformation.

My prayer is that one day my ugly past will amount to an amazing testimony of God’s grace and redeeming power! For now, I am walking with Godly counsel as I seek to become the true man and minister of the gospel that God created me to be.

    HopeKid.

HOPEKID: Proverbs 24:16 “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” I write this with a very heavy heart. I have done wrong before God and man. I am truly sorry. I am not a righteous man. I am a young man who has made mistake (which I am sorry for). I sincerely apologize to all who have been hurt as a result of my action.

I believe that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us of all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I have repented of my sins and I am pursuing a life that is pleasing to Christ to the best of my ability. I have some pastors and some godly men who are walking with me in this path and I thank them for standing with me in this difficult time.

To all my fans, supporters, family and friends: I apologize for letting you down. I have fallen but God will raise me up. God will work this around for his glory! I urge you all to pray for me as I go through this restoration process. God bless you!

And when you thought that would calm the storm, then you didn’t see the next coming. Size 8, a fellow gospel artist who made the switch from secular where she made a name out of being raunchy, attempted to come to the rescue of her colleagues, has come under harsh criticism for coming out as a rape sympathizer.

While the debate took heat, another audio clip had emerged of DK openly admitting to having slept with the girl and clearly stating it wasn’t take rather consensual and if there’s any evidence of take then the girl can as well take him to court. He comes out unapologetic and dismissive in what seems like a secretly recorded audio when they were having a boys chat.

While staying on the limelight, DK seem to have fetishes and forgetting he’s a gospel artist, on his Twitter account, the minister of God seem to be a liver of pornography as shown by the type of material he likes, on his profile, a lady giving head can be seen publicly.

  • Jetlak Foods Ltd Manufacturer Of Banned Nuteez Peanut Butter Has An History Of Toxicity With Their Water Product Waba

Jetlak Foods Ltd Manufacturer Of Banned Nuteez Peanut Butter Has An History Of Toxicity With Their Water Product Waba

Jetlak Foods which is a manufacturing company that specializes in bottled water, fruit juices, fruit flavoured drinks and peanut butter. Their key brands include Waba Mineral Water, FruitVille Fruit Drink, Savanah Fruit Flavoured Drink, Marche Lime Cordial and Nuteez Peanut Butter, bid in trouble.

The Ministry of Health has recalled peanut butter brand ‘Nuteez’ countrywide after tests confirmed a contaminated batch in Nandi County.

The government has confirmed the presence of aflatoxin, a poisonous substance, in peanut butter brand Nuteez, making it unfit for human consumption.

Government Chemist Francis Maina said that the peanut butter was found to be containing 24.08ppb aflatoxin, 14.08ppb more than the required limit.

“The peanut butter exceeds the maximum required limit for total aflatoxins (10ppb) hence not fit for human consumption,” reads the letter.

Subsequently, the Director of Public Health Kepha M. Ombacho on Thursday asked all County Public Health Officers to ensure the ‘Nuteez’ peanut butter is removed from the market and submitted to the government laboratory for analysis.

Jetlak Foods, who produce Nuteez, however issued a statement saying that they had not received any letter or correspondence from the Interior Ministry, who raised the flag over the toxic levels. In a letter to the public, the company insists their products are of high standards.

Ingestion of contaminated food is the main source of exposure to aflatoxins, which adversely affect the health of both humans and animals. Exposure to aflatoxins is associated with an increased risk of liver cancer.

Several studies have shocking  levels of aflatoxin in milk. EU/FAO/WHO limits is 50ng/Kg, the KEBS is 10,000ng/kg (10ppb). Kenyans consume 200 times more Afflatoxin than EU counterparts.

“So, Nuteez whose results were released today contained 24,000ng/kg of Afflatoxin 480 times more than that allowed in Europe. Don’t ask me why we have so many cancer cases in Kenya or why our farmers can’t access the lucrative European market for their Livestock products eg milk.” Says Benson Kibore the chairman Of veterinary practitioners in Kenya.

Jetlak Food LTD also owns WABA Mineral water which had been blacklisted on 12th May 2016 by KEBS due to poor quality. Despite the suspension, the mineral water brand (Waba) were not withdrawn from the outlets.

Miraculously, the company was given a go ahead to continue Production and distribution of mineral water by KEBS. They were subsequently removed from the list of shame.

It remains who at KEBS re authorized the company to continue production and on what conditions. With two products now found to be of substandard in the company’s history, the question that would linger in any alert consumer is just how safe is other products made by Jetlak.

  • Sophia Lepuchelit the EACC Commissioner Who Sent Lydiah Achieng To Jail Accused Her Of Sleeping With Her Husband And Vowed To Teach Her A Lesson

Sophia Lepuchelit the EACC Commissioner Who Sent Lydiah Achieng To Jail Accused Her Of Sleeping With Her Husband And Vowed To Teach Her A Lesson

For ten years, Lydiah Achieng has been serving her jail term without much public knowledge until a recent TV interview when she opened up to her world. In her defense, Achieng believes she’s innocent and was jailed over a matter she had no idea about.

According to court papers, Achieng was having an affair with Sophia’s 13-year old son. The State called four witnesses the 13-year-old minor, Lepuchelit, a guest house manager named Silvester Tanui and the investigator of the case, Police Constable William Kamau.

The boy named as R.L testified to the court that Achieng lured him to have sex three times.  According to the boy, he knew Achieng out of selling clothes in the same building where his mother Lepuchelit had her business.

He claimed that she lured him to have sex three times and that he stole his mother’s money to go spend with her.Lepuchelit was the second prosecution witness. She told the court that on November 7, she was out of the house.

Her house help, whom she did not name, called her at around 8pm claiming that she had seen Achieng with her son in her house, adding that she had come to defile him. The woman narrated that she sought Tanui’s help and confronted Achieng, then reported the incident to the police.

Sophia Lepuchelit, the IEBC Commissioner and the lady who sent Achieng to jail.

Tanui corroborated what Lepuchelit had told the court.Although the house help would have been the key witness to determine whether Achieng was guilty as charged, she was not called to testify.

This sharply clashes with the narrative that Achieng gave to the media indicating that the said boy was supposedly having an intimate relationship with her kid of which Lepuchelit has given her a warning to our an halt into it.

Its now emerging that these two women had more beef than meets the eye. On November 7,2010, the fateful day, it was hot in Kiserian, Kaijado County, Achieng who was. Mitumba trader in Kiserian, walked into Legaro Bar to quench her thirst, according to court papers.

Apparently, Achieng had been offered drinks by another man. As the two were enjoying themselves, Lepuchelit in the company of a young boy, stormed the bar and a fight ensued between the two ladies.

According to court records, Lepuchelit asked Achieng who she was and whether she knew the man who had bought her alcohol and how they related. A heated exchange ensued during which Achieng’s accuser allegedly insulted her, claiming that she had stolen her husband.

Sophia gave Achieng a stern warning that she’d deal with her before leaving. It’s from here that Lepuchelit reported her to the Kiserian Police where it’s said from her business and connections, she had strong contacts with the police. As she’d later come to learn, Achieng was arrested and charged with defilement of a minor.

“The lady threatened to frame me with serious charges. I learnt about the case and I was shocked. The complainant wanted to forgive me,” Achieng testified in her defence. Achieng also said in her interview that Sophia had agreed to withdraw the case on guilt of framing but the court couldn’t hear non of it given the nature of offense.

ODPP has come out in defense of the ruling that sent Achieng to prison saying there was enough proof of defilement an argument that lawyers led by Nelson Havi have trashed, vowing to review the case and determine the facts.

Achieng had pointed an accusing finger at the ODPP and the magistrates for mishandling her case and not given a fair hearing. Achieng will be finishing her jail term in February and plans to go back to her rural home to refresh her life that has been disrupted by ten years spent in jail.

  • Revealed: How NTSA Officials Collude Wirh Criminals To Clone Car Number Plates At It Happened In Dusit Attack

Revealed: How NTSA Officials Collude Wirh Criminals To Clone Car Number Plates At It Happened In Dusit Attack

Officers from the Flying Squad, the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), raided the NTSA offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi, to find out how the ring operates and eventually prosecute those involved in a crime that helped terrorists to stage the 14 Riverside Drive attack that led to the loss of 21 lives.

When the agencies raided, employees were caught unawares and ordered to vacate offices as the detectives combed the premise to piece up the links. At the end, 19 employees of the authority were taken away by police for questioning.

Dusit attackers had used Toyota Ractis (KCN 340E) to launch their attack in what detectives say was a duplicate of another car of the same make and similar description though different color that was impounded on January 16 in Kitengela, Kajiado County. It had the original number plate.

It has since been established that there’s an existing cartel that links officials at NTSA and criminals to clone car number plates and that’s how the Dusit attackers made it through.

The whole thing plays out like a movie, once the cartels are contacted by the criminals, crook NTSA officials in the racket that do a quick search of cars baring same descriptions but in different towns and clone the plates.

For instance, if one is in Nakuru and wants a cloned number plate, the registrar simply finds a match of a car in a different town say Garissa or even Busia. They also verify that the plate doesn’t have to be on police radar to avoid getting intercepted.

The vehicle specifications are then extracted from the owner’s logbook on the NTSA website, including colour, chassis/frame number, year of manufacture, transfer number, owner’s name, make, body type and other details.

A copy of the owner’s ID is also downloaded from the website by the insider. These details extracted illegally are then used to create a fake logbook elsewhere. With a fake logbook, they’ll report a lost or damaged number plate at a police station then use the abstract to apply for a new number plate at NTSA and that’s how the same vehicle ends up with similar number but different owners as it happened in the DusitD2 case.

Once back at the NTSA for a new plate application, the applicant is charged a fee which is determined by how many people in the web were involved.

KRA then gives details of the previous owner which is then used to get certificate without inspection as insiders innthe inspectorate department lias to evade this scrutiny net. This is because electronic inspection always detects when the vehicle’s chassis number is different from the one in the logbook

Ring also ropes in insurance brokers who play their part by giving the cloned plate car owner with insurance sticker. In January alone, Flying Squad has impounded 26 cars with duplicate number plates which is disturbing because your car could possibly be cloned without your knowledge and you could easily get in trouble with the state over a crime you weren’t part of.

Government Authorizes Chinese Traditional Medicine Men To Start Practicing In Kenya

Government is now opening doors for Chinese to practice what they call alternative in Kenya. Ministry of health in a letter seen by Kenya Insights, authorized s Chinese herbal firm Shengxun Xian to open clinics and run their businesses in Kenya.

Even though the public health(Cap.242) recognizes the use of alternative medicine, Kenyan health officials are questioning the criteria used in determining the safety of the Chinese alternative medicine.

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General, Thuranira Kaugiria asked the ministry, “ What are the  qualifications of being registered as a Chinese alternative medicine man ? When are witchdoctors being authorized since they offer alternative medicine?”

Could this be the Universal Health Coverage they’ve been talking about that will open up doors to many Chinese medicine men streaming into Kenya? Talking of China, authorities recently arrested a Chinese citizen in Kilimani with cartons of suspected fake ARVS.

Questions that lingers in many people’s minds as Chinese medicine come to Kenya is what qualifications one must hold to practice alternative medicine as they call it? Whether there’s national guidelines on the use of Chinese alternative medicine and if this is a plain sailing directive by government for Kenyans to considering Chinese medicine.

While Chinese medicine are used worldwide, will they be subjected to toxity tests and which board like Incase of doctors Theresa a regulatory board that will regulate the Chinese medicine? In the same breath, it’s time to issue our witch doctors and herbalists with the licenses as well?

  • DCI Kinoti Goes After 130 Bank Hackers

DCI Kinoti Goes After 130 Bank Hackers

DCI has released 130 photos of suspected criminals engaged in hacking banking systems in Kenya. This doesn’t come as a surprise with recent visit to Kenya by Interpol heads and previously FBI who’ve marked Kenya as a hub for cyber criminals and need for combined efforts to contain them.

According to a Cyber Security report by Serianu which also reveals that Africa lost Sh350 billion to cybersecurity with financial institutions most affected. Kenya lost approximately Sh21.2 billion to cybersecurity in 2017, second only to Nigeria which lost Sh65.5 billion.

The report showed that over Sh18 billion was withdrawn from victim accounts with banks compensating nearly the same amount.

Overall, banks and financial institutions in 10 of the African countries surveyed lost $248 million in 2017 with governments losing $204 million.

The highest cost and threats for financial institutions in relation to cyber crimes came from insider threats, investments in anti-cybercrime technologies, banking malware and ATM skimming.

According to the Communications Authority of Kenya’s latest findings, the National Kenya Computer Incident Response Team Coordination Centre (KE-CIRT-CC) analysed and validated 4,589 cyber threats.

CA’s Second Quarter Statistics Report for the 2017/2018 financial year (October-December 2017), said 539 cyber threats were resolved.

System misconfigurations, largely ride on weaknesses where users access their company portals using default 0000 passwords that are not regularly changed (updated) from any gadget at any level.

While most Kenyan companies remained mute over attacks on their individual portals, albeit to protect their business interests, CA’s report said 140 malware attacks (malicious software) were reported with the 2017 prolonged political period blamed for 104 incidents of impersonation, which were reported.

Dozens of sites belonging to the Kenyan and Nigerian governments have been hacked in recent years, highlighting their vulnerability. CA’s website was defaced in 2017 while, National Bank reported thwarting an online bid to transfer Sh29 million from its accounts by an unknown hackers to mobile money accounts, a technique at the heart of massive bank theft locally and internationally.

Banks and internal-revenue authorities are getting hit the most, especially through their web apps. Nairobi and the bigger cities in particular have become highly exposed to cyber crime targeting individuals as residential internet connection rises phenomenally.

With 130 persons now facing imminent arrest, could this be the breakthrough into the the murky underworld of cybercrime? Here are the listed suspects.

  • Al Shabaab Recruiting Youths In Kakamega Politician Raises The Alarm

Al Shabaab Recruiting Youths In Kakamega Politician Raises The Alarm

Suicide bomber who blew himself up at Dusit terror attack was positively identified as Mahir, a Kenyan who hailed from Mombasa, Gichunge, who’s said to be the mastermind of the Nairobi Hotel attack that left 21 civilians dead, came from Nyeri.

Al Shabaab in their new terror phase are targeting the youths male and female who’re non Somalis and recruiting them into the militia with promises of better pay and mostly it comes with intense radicalization.

Slums such as Majengo in both Nairobi, Mombasa and Nyeri due to the poverty levels, had been a fertile grounds for recruitments and many youths have crossed over to Somalia to join Al Shabaab. Most youths from these areas are on the anti terror police watch list.

The new face of Al Shabaab is represented by young men from different Kenyan ethnic groups. It is a departure from the typical profile of an Al-Shabaab membership from Somalia and sympathisers from local Somalis. It is also a marked difference from the youth from Mombasa and other coastal towns attracted to the jihadist ideology.

Elgiva Bwire Oliacha, alias Mohamed Saif was jailed for life after pleading guilty to grenade attacks in Nairobi that rocked the city in 2011. Bwire comes from Busia in Western where there’s an alarm over heavy recruitment of the youths into the terrorist organization.

Former Ikolomani MP Bonnie Khalwale has called up the anti terror unit to move with speed and find the person behind the recruiting going round in the area, “The national security organs must pitch tent in Kakamega and establish who is (are) behind the disappearance of our youth (mainly from Shinyalu) from their homes to join Al-Shabaab camps in Somalia.” Said Khalwale.

Western region has been on the terror watch given increasing number of youths converting to Islam before disappearing to Somalia a jar of worms that has its lid now open by the former legislator.

Violet Kemunto whom the police have now listed amongst the top most wanted criminals said to be behind the Dusit attack, incidentally, went to school in Masinde Muliro University also in Kakamega, Western. She was wife to Gichunge whom the police say was the attack’s mastermind and believed to have been killed at Dusit.

With diversification in ethnic composition and using home grown terrorists, the security agencies must adopt to the changing times to avoid overlooking potential threats.

Initiatives such as Nyumba Kumi need to be taken with seriousness it deserves for surveillance, identifying and eliminating potential threats, Gichunge and Kemunto stayed at an apartment in Muchatha since March 2018 and planned the attack from there to its execution and no one suspected any foul play perhaps because of their ethnicity.

Other than securing borders, Nyumba Kumi initiative needs to be revived for human intelligence collection more so now that their could be a sleeper cell next door without you knowing since in Nairobi, no one bothers to know their neighbor and there lays the dangers.

  • Central Bank Sacks It’s Employee And Atheists President Over His Tweets Attacking The Goverment

Central Bank Sacks It’s Employee And Atheists President Over His Tweets Attacking The Goverment

Harrison Mumia, the founder and President of atheists in Kenya, has suffered a blow from his employer CBK after disciplinary action was keyed on him following a cause of action letter in response to anti government tweets that he made.

Mumia was first served with a notice to show cause on 23rd May 2017 where he was accused of  disobedience and insubordination from various post that he made against the government, he was cautioned and told maintain political neutrality.

He might have survived but eyes remained on him, according to HR Acting Director, Terry Ng’ang’a, Mumia violated his terms by repeating the same posts that criticized the government.

In a supposed tweet captured from Mumia, It reads,”I thought MP Alfred Keter was in government. I thought he was ndaani ndaani, mbona anashikwa tena na his government tena? Unless being in government is a myth, to those who voted jubilee mko ndani ya government in best sense?”

He was accused of going contrary to the Public Officers Ethics Act No 4 of 2003 by stating his political opinion and for suggesting that action on Sang was politically motivated and not out of fair investigations. CBK was handling the case.

In the same arguments he was accused of gross misconduct by discrediting his employer(CBK) who was part of the investigating agencies on Keter’s case.

In another post he tweeted, “can jubilee NEC make Uhuru resign like the ANC did for Zuma? Does jubilee have a NEC? If it happened, it would be a relief for Kenyans. Right now any change from Uhuru is better than Uhuru any!!”

According to CBK, this was a clear partisan, political stand that Harrison had made thereby violating political neutrality. He was suspended as investigations continued and officially dismissed on January 11.

Mumia in his defense, denies authoring the said tweets, “The letters quote TWEETS that were NOT authored by MYSELF. They do not mention anything about CBK or anyone. CBK has clearly demonstrated  that it will gag fundamental FREEDOMS and RIGHTS of employees who seem to be anti -establishment.”

The atheists president believes that there’s more of political witchunting involved in his case, “Assuming those were my TWEETS, it doesn’t lay ground for gross misconduct. CBK should realize that many Kenyans engaged in all sorts of political conversations before, during and after the elections. I believe Ms Terry Ng’ang’a (Ag. Director) was behind the scheme.”

Mumia believes his rights to free political expression has been abused and will be seeking legal redress and possibly win his job back or be compensated, “I am putting together a law suit against the CBK seeking damages. I also will seek audience with other parties that will help me fight this clawing back of our Constitutional Rights by the deep state at CBK.” He concludes.

What do you think about the action taken by the bank.

  • The Fight Over Control Of UHC’s Sh30B Between MOH And NHIF Becomes Evident

The Fight Over Control Of UHC’s Sh30B Between MOH And NHIF Becomes Evident

Let’s start with the good news, President Uhuru rolled out the Universal Health Coverage In Kisumu for piloting and the bad news is NHIF was ruled out of controlling the Sh30B project.

The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has been excluded from handling Sh3.1 billion allocated for the universal health coverage (UHC) rolled on Thursday in four counties.

The Treasury will send about Sh2.1 billion or 70 per cent of the funds directly to Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) for the purchase of drugs and essential kits for hospitals in Isiolo, Kisumu, Nyeri and Machakos.

The exclusion of the NHIF was arrived at after the four counties expressed misgivings over governance issues at the fund.

On Tuesday, Geoffrey Mwangi, NHIF chief executive, his predecessor and 16 other officials were also charged with abuse of office an irregular award an extension of a contract in which Sh1.1 billion was lost.

Health Cabinet secretary Sicily Kariuki said the NHIF was not able to grow its membership beyond a certain capacity, which would have hindered the start of the universal health coverage this year.

It may look like any other story any other day, but behind the scenes, there was a powerful fight over the control of UHC funds and this was the plan all along by Health CS Sicily Kariuki, whose ministry is now entrusted with running the Universal Health funds, estimated at over Ksh 30 billion.

    How it unfolded

Geoffrey Mwangi is being charged with corruption at NHIF. However, DPP Noordin Haji could be charging the wrong man. All the issues given started as far back as 2001, during the reign of former President Daniel Moi, NHIF has been looted for the longest time. See this link and look at the history. Mwangi was not CEO then.

These are the real board members and former CEO Kirgotty responsible.

The charge sheet used to prosecute Mr Mwangi and the NHIF management, is not pointing to any criminal activity, only obstruction through an SMS sent to the Finance Director. However, there is no case there since the SMS itself was illegally acquired through hacking of Mr Mwangi’s phone.

The charge sheet itself, was delivered by Health CS Sicily Kariuki herself to the Board of NHIF. The question is, what is her direct interest? The plan all along has been to scandalize NHIF and its management to a point where it loses public trust, and have it dysfunctional.

Now that Mwangi and NHIF management is out of the way, Sicily is now taking full control and has even appointed two cronies as board members.

Once Ksh 30 billion UHC money is in MoH’s control, we’re in for NYS season 2. Remember who was in-charge when NYS lost Ksh 9 billion? MoH has successfully wrestled NHIF out of the way in what is a clear case of sibling rivalry. Now Kenyans should be prepared for round 2 of NYS, under the exact same architect – Sicily Kariuki.
