Dishonored: Kenya’s Rugby Players Air Their Frustrations And Poor State Of Life

Kenya has very talented sportspersons. From athletes to soccer and to one very successful sport in Kenya, Rugby.

Kenya 7s has been having a decent and successful time at world rugby series.

But the results are far more likely to be worse if the current salary and allowances situation goes on.

Players like Willy Amboka and Dennis Ombachi have taken their salary grievances and stolen allowances to Twitter in what seems like a tip of the iceberg on the pathetic conditions KRU is putting its players through while expecting good results.

The two Kenya Rugby Sevens aside team players have complained about the problems facing their mens team.

Ombachi says they are being paid peanuts with no allowance. Something that is seemingly making it tough for many players to pay for their basic needs such as house rents. https://twitter.com/Willyambaka/status/1131844294149591040?s=19

With Willy Amboka backing him on how it’s hard to explain to the landlords why the house rents haven’t been paid. https://twitter.com/ombachi13/status/1131851931134124032?s=19

National Players are being paid 28K per month. Without any allowances and paid trainings or travels.
    https://twitter.com/ /status/1131808209214287872?s=19

Ambaka and Ombachi also says Medical fee and house allowances of the Sevens team has been misused by KRU Bosses.

Players are forced to pay for their own medical fees if they get an injury.

Kenya is resourceful with raw talent but it suffers from the unknown management syndrome that has been brought about by nepotism and tribalism in the current KRU Board.https://twitter.com/ombachi13/status/1131808209214287872?s=19

It’s also sad how national rugby players are living like peasants and forced to beg for money and food from friends, fans and family.

Ambaka also expressed his frustration about how his fellow mates are going through hard times to an extent of borrowing everything https://twitter.com/Willyambaka/status/1131844667685916672?s=19

While Ombachi saying that all of their money were stolen by corrupt KRU bosses

Last but not least, the unhappy Ombachi talked about how KRU bosses have neglected men’s gym and training areas. https://twitter.com/ombachi13/status/1131804677396471808?s=19

The issue of nepotism between two national rugby teams also arose.

With what clearly indicates exploitation of players from the National women’s rugby teams.

Are the women afraid of talking about their off pitch matters? Or someone is working things from their side.

We are waiting for the official response from KRU Bosses about the off pitch issues that are tearing apart our national rugby teams. This is not the first time ugly face of rugby management is coming to the surface.

Last year during the World Sevens Series in Paris, players staged a cold protest when they concealed the Brand Kenya brand who was a sponsor.

Shujaa had met with Brand Kenya and KRU CEO and it was announced the board had come to sponsor the team to a tune of KSh 20 million for a period of eight months. Brand Kenya boss declared each player would be given a token of KSh 100, 000 in form of cheques in appreciation of our exemplary performance.

KRU boss interrupted the payment plan and asked Brand Kenya to send money to the union which would in turn channel it to their accounts. Players were never paid until a serious online protest was staged. It’s disturbing seeing how our boys who bring pride to the country are being treated with utmost disrespect. Mismanagement in Kenya’s sports especially rugby is a cancer that need to be cut off.

The Court Has Refused To Admit The Confession Of Julius Wambua Musyoki’s Daughter That She Faked Her Rape

Justice delayed is as much painful as justice denied. Julias Wambua Musyiki’s appeal evidence against his life imprisonment sentence has been dismissed by the Court of Appeal.

Wambua had appealed his sentence through his advocates, Cyrus Maweu and Mike Mwema. He said he decided to appeal the case since his daughter, who the inmate was accused of raping, had confessed of lying to the court.

Wambua’s daughter who was featured in a citizen TVs production, #PrisonDiaries, confessed before cameras alleging that she was forcefully coached by the mother to lie in court that the father had defiled her. She was 10 years as by 2011.

The Appellate Court head, Justice William Ouko in company of Justice Wanjoru Karanja and Justice Jamila Mohamed dropped the request by Wambua’s legal team to add her daughter’s confession as the evidence in his sentence appeal.

The Appellate Judges said the period to submit such requests to the court from the convict had already lapsed according to the court-set timelines.

Wambua’s advocates contended that the court was being unfair to the convict. The advocates said the court was not keen in questioning the prosecution evidence and witnesses.

Wambuia through his lawyers said that the court never gave him a chance to defend himself despite him willing to pay for all the medical tests and checks. The court convicted Wambua in bad faith because of the alleged crime.

Moses Ome’rera, the prosecution lawyer objected the inmates evidence saying that the submission will need to re-open the case with another set of witnesses to recant the testimony in the already closed case.

Counsel Ome’rera did not disagree with the inconsistency of the dates as claimed by the appellant. He said that Wambua belongs to jail because all the previous testimonies true.

Wambua is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence at Kamiti maximum security Prison. He was sentenced in 2011.

Cocaine Laced Marijuana And Prostitution In TUK

Drug addiction and unprotected sex under the influence has hit its rise in Nairobi’s University and Colleges.

Cocaine, marijuana, crack and blue tabs have high consumers in schools. A lot of comrades are active drug users and addicts.

We have received information from our sources about the increased cases of illegal drug use and prostitution in Nairobi’s Technical University of Kenya.

Suspended students from TUK and expelled comrades of TUK have turned to biggest drug peddlers in the institution.

These former TUK comrades are peddling cocaine and marijuana inside the technical university of Kenya.

The illegal business happens behind Block Q~ which the majority know it as Block Z.

Our sources says these marijuana peddlers mainly reside from Nairobi’s Mathare slums.

They link up with former TUK comrades behind block Z for cracked cocaine from South B.

These peddlers are said to be mixing marijuana and cocaine. A mixture that is highly effective and dangerous for your health.

With other selling crack blue tabs and rolled cocaine to unsuspecting Students.

This has been the main cause of rise of drug addicts in the institution.

Some students are also involved in prostitution behind the same Block Z. Lack of money to buy the hard drugs and some students sleeping around unprotected only to get free cocaine to sniff and smoke because of addiction.

These gang of peddlers operate their illegal business in open daylight. Many and majority of their customers are TUK students.

Student leadership in TUK has raised concerns about the peddlers to the relevant authority.

The students leaders have called for ‘Operation okoa block Z’. They’re demanding it to be demolished or put into active use to scare away the peddlers.

Scientists have tested money and phones from 395 food handlers in 15 different types of outlets in Nairobi County and confirmed the two items to be highly-tainted with disease-causing germs.

The researchers collected money from the food handlers in every denomination of the Kenya’s currency.

The money underwent through a thorough test for eight types of Disease Causing Organisms.

All of the tests confirmed positive of the DCOs. Of these, 20 per cent were food-borne pathogens.

The Sh 50 and Sh 20 denominations were the most tainted. Researchers believe that it’s because they have a possible wide supply and circulation. With Sh 1, 5 and 1000 being the least contaminated.

Staphylococcus species of germs that have been medically proven to cause skin, heart and bone infections, food poisoning and pneumonia were mostly present to all the denominations.

The physical and  verbal confrontation at the Kerugoya referral Hospital Mortuary in Kirinyaga County hit many mourners who had arrived to bid the farewell to the late rider by a surprise.

  • Government Abandons New SGR

    Government Abandons New SGR

Kenya has been rolling deep down into public debt in the name of development. Government handlers have been on the frying pot for advising the government of projects that are not profit generating at the expense of the tax payers.

Recently a Chinese loan worth Ksh.374 billion for the extension of the SGR from Naivasha to Malaba didn’t materialize. With some saying that Chinese now wants the government to prove that they are going to pay for the first loan.

The government of Kenya now has plans to modernize the old railway track to link a newer line to neighbouring Uganda at a cost of Ksh.21.3billion.

Sources in the government indicate that unidentified private financier has offered to fully back up the project. This is almost 15 times cheaper than building another almost modern railway with Chinese loan.

also read:Container Freight Station Owners To Lose Sh35B Investment In SGR’s Cargo Debacle.

The SGR was under  China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative, a multi-billion dollar series of infrastructure projects upgrading land and maritime trade routes between China and Europe, Asia and Africa.

The Nairobi-Mombasa SGR that was launched at a cost of Ksh 323.9 billion then later linked with Nairobi-Naivasha line costing Ksh.151.7billion might sound as a serious wastage joke when the government links it to Naivasha-Malaba track that will cost Ksh 21.3 billion.

“We need to make sure that when we commission the SGR in August, we have connectivity to Uganda from the SGR so we have to rehabilitate that line to make sure it is properly functional,” said CS James Macharia,

Macharia also said that using Ksh.15 billion to rehabilitate decades-old line from Malaba on the border with Uganda and using the remaining amount construct another short track connecting to the SGR at Naivasha within a year would be a faster option than building another SGR.

  • D+ Trainee Teachers Dismissed

    D+ Trainee Teachers Dismissed

Education CS has issued a directive to terminate the learning of over 3, 000 trainee teachers.

Currently we had 3,265 trainee teachers who were admitted to various colleges in Kenya following a directive in October 2018 by then Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.

The teachers from hardship faced areas had sued the government and the court ruled in their favor.

Former education CS Amina Mohamed allowed students from hardship areas who scored a D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams to join teacher training colleges to train as primary school teachers.

Some of the Counties that were allowed to admit the D+ trainees are Turkana, Samburu, Wajir, Marsabit, Isiolo, Mandera, Garissa, Lamu, Tana River, West Pokot, Kwale, Kilifi and Taita Taveta.

The then education CS also named sub-counties in  Homa Bay, Narok, Baringo and Kajiado  that could also admit D+ students to TTCs.

To their surprise immediately from holidays, Dr Kipsang issued a circular to principals of teacher training colleges clarifying that because a case filed by the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) over the admission requirement had been resolved through consensus, the D+ students would no longer be allowed in colleges.

Abdishukri Adan Muhumed a resident of northern Kenya has sued all the 27 TTCs, the Education ministry and the Attorney-General on behalf of the over 3,000 trainee teachers who got terminated by the directive.

Mr Muhumed argues that the discontinuation is unfair to the trainees. He said that the decision, threat and/or announcement of the said discontinuance of the commenced teachers training is arbitrary, capricious and untenable.

Justice Makau certified the muhumed’s case urgent but turned down his request to issue an interim order to re-admit the D+ students until he hears the response from the sued parties.

Justice Makau had ordered that the sued parties be served by a newspaper advertisement, which ran on Friday last week.

TCS CEO Nancy Macharia upholds that those wishing to train in early childhood development education must have a D+ and above, those joining diploma colleges must have a C+ and those going for a bachelor’s degree must attain at least a C+.
