  • Reinstatement Of Suspended Dr Catherine Mutindi Exposes Sonko’s Propaganda On Pumwani Hospital

Reinstatement Of Suspended Dr Catherine Mutindi Exposes Sonko’s Propaganda On Pumwani Hospital

Known for being over reactive and playing to public emotions as opposed to facts, the Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko In September suspended suspended the hospital superintendent & doctor in-charge. It was alleged that the staff switched off the power in the new born unit. Governor conducted an impromptu visit that found bodies stuffed in boxes at the storeroom.

In the public eye, the governor did the right thing, however, behind the scenes, he failed to recognize and address the systemic failures that had led to his expose.

According to a summary report on operation at the hospital in the period under focus in September, a total of 156 deliveries were made and only 6 deaths registered. On accusations of hiding bodies, the report said that The hospital didn’t a holding room for dead bodies. The room had a total of eleven (11) bodies.

“These bodies are ferried to City Mortuary for disposal on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Of the eleven (11) bodies in the holding room: • Four (4) were to be ferried to City Mortuary on Friday 14th September, 2018 • Six (6) who died over the weekend will be ferried today to City Mortuary. • One (1) non-tagged neonate is not from the hospital un-procedurally within the holding area with no documentation availed by the mortician.” Said the report on the discovered bodies that the governor live-streamed to his followers on Facebook.

Because of poor facilitation, the staff have to be innovative, “ There are no body bags to keep the deceased in before transfer to the morgue. Hospital staff have to make do with what’s available. Carton boxes and plastic disposal bags are the most available temporary storage for these little angels. Every deceased person, irrespective of age, is registered in the death notification register provided by the registrar of persons (births and deaths). Each of these little ones is moved to city mortuary with an attached notification. They are not just statistics.” Said Dr. Bosire.

Dr Catherine Munini the suspended medical superintendent at Pumwani has now been reinstated and redeployed to Mbagathi Hospital after it emerged that her rushed suspension was discredited that it was unfair and unthought over given the fact that at the time she was outside the country in Zambia amid more so that the limiting factors at hand on handling bodies hadn’t been addressed.

Questions now hangs on how suspended doctors like Dr. Kamau aren’t reinstated since they were all suspended over disapproved reasons as Dr. Catherine who’s now the boss at Mbagathi. Dr Joseph Karani has been moved to Pumwani as the boss.

County Secretary Peter Kariuki, County Secretary Peter Kariuki, Acting CEC health Vesca Kangogo, Chief Officer Health Mahat Mohammed, County Attorney Kwamboka, And the Gynaecologists as Pumwani Dr Kamau were all suspended for telling the truth and going against the Governor’s script which has now been discredited.

It’s not surprising that currently there’s a smear campaign on Dr. Catherine on social media even after investigations proving she wasn’t tainted. Our sources allege that the current hospital administrator at Pumwani Mr Geoffrey Mosiria who’s described as a crafty man, is behind the smear campaign against Dr. Catherine Mutindi.

What’s obvious after going through the facts that the office of the governor hasn’t refuted is that the suspended doctors were victims of rushed decisions and were after all innocent. Systemic failures as that of Pumwani can’t be resolved by emotions but in-depth look. This what I’ve been saying also about KNH where understaffing, under funding and over crowding is overlooked yet the biggest barriers to effective service delivery. Question now that remains is the fate of the other doctors suspended by Sonko if they’ll be reinstated as well since facts have proven them right and that Dr Catherine is back in service.

PHOTOS: Migori Governor Okoth Obado Recieved With Jubilations As He Reports Back To Work

For 34 days, the county boss stayed without the luxuries and pomp that power comes with. Obado who was arrested and charged over the death of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno, would spend his days and cold nights in Industrial Area as he fought for the court to grant him bail and his wish was granted last week.

Mr Obado was released from the Industrial Area Prison on Thursday evening after being freed on cash bail. The governor is out on a Sh5 million cash bail but he cannot go to his palatial home in Rapogi because it within a 20km radius the court ruled he should not breach lest he is taken back to prison.

Obado disembarks from his official car when he arrived in the office.
To conform with the terms, Obado has now moved to his old house in compliance with High Court bond terms that require him to stay away from Homa Bay’s boundary by at least 20km.The Migori house belongs to BAT Kenya and was rented by the county administration in 2014. He vacated the house three years ago when the construction of his new rural home was completed. He has been operating from his Rapogi home, which is within the 20km radius.

Obado received by his jubilant staff and supporters at the County’s HQ.

Justice Jessie Lessit on Wednesday ruled that Mr Obado was entitled to bond, as none of the evidence and witnesses had directly linked him to the murder of the Rongo University student.

Unbowed by his tribulations which he has repeatedly attributed to politics, the Governor with full power apparatus, reported to work where his staff and supporters at the county’s headquarters welcomed him with jubilation.

Governor Obado chairs County’s cabinet meeting.
Obado addressing county staff afterskjmg a return.

Obado chaired a meeting with his cabinet and was updated on various developments in his absence. Many had thought he’d resign from office given the murder case and integrity scope but all that seem not to be happening. There’s supposedly an impeachment motion in the cooking to oust the governor in what can be said to be a looming battle. For now it’s bsbk to enjoying power contraptions for the Governor who can’t get out of his county.

  • Mixed Reactions As Kiuna’s JCC Allows Gay Journalist Richard Quest To The Pulpit

Mixed Reactions As Kiuna’s JCC Allows Gay Journalist Richard Quest To The Pulpit

Homosexuality remains one of those taboo topics in Kenya such that when Obama visited Kenya, President Uhuru veered off discussions in that perspective telling his US counterpart that homosexuality is a non issue.

Under Kenyan laws, homosexuality is still considered criminal punishable by imprisonment. Kenya despite criminalizing the samesex relationships is however not as hostile on homosexuals as neighboring countries, Kenya has remained a safe hub for gays given the soft stance. There’s reportedly a case in the brewing that would eventually see Kenya legalizing homosexuality and join rest of west countries now allowing same sex marriages.

The church especially the Kenyan clergy has been preaching against gayism and that’s why it didn’t come as a surprise when section of Kenyans criticized JCC when they hosted CNN’s Richard Quest and allowed him to use the pulpit to preach during their Sunday service.

Quest in the front seats of the JCC

While there’s nothing wrong with allowing him to the pulpit, it is unusual and newsworthy for the church to embrace Quest who’s publicly gay having come out himself. Can this be read as the church giving a node to homosexuality? It is a statement that’s being made not sure what they were saying.

Kenyans as always, had a lot to say on this particular matter in which the church is being accused of double standards and hypocrisy in the sense that, we have publicly declared gay people in the country that the church has never hosted, JCC is accused of clinging on the clout that the CNN journalist has come with since his entry into the country.

    Sample of the comments:

Holly Kenyan; A Kenyan ,born and raised  who is a 100% a church attendant and never misses a church service  have never been given a chance in the same church to say hi!!! Richard Quest has been given a VIP sit and 30 minutes worth of airtime and first time church attendant.

Michael Kyale; Seriously ? We have allowed Mr. Quest who is GAY, without any apologies/repentance to speak on pulpit? Something not right here.

Mercy Amisi; I honestly see nothing wrong here. When Jesus died at the cross, the curtain at the temple tore into two, showing the church was opened to all. Funny how adulterous attending church sermons are now condemning JCC for welcoming Richard smh.

Richard Quest is in the country to shoot two episodes of his Quest Means Business which was to air live on Thursday and Friday but didn’t given the bomb scares in the US.

  • Itumbi Daily Visits To Lang’ata Women Prison Raises Eyebrows

Itumbi Daily Visits To Lang’ata Women Prison Raises Eyebrows

It is not a secret that there exists a very strong bond or attraction between Itumbi and Maribe even though he says their relationship is not romantic.

Ever since Jacque Maribe was first summoned for questioning on Monica Kimani’s murder before her arrest, Itumbi has come out publicly in giving Maribe moral and other ends of support.

Despite Maribe always appearing with her fiancé Jowie, Itumbi has not shied away from anything even the cameras to cross the crocodile infested rivers for Jacque, in her las court appearance, Itumbi even joined her in the dick and tightly hugged her as Jowie tried so hard to assume.

The government’s digital strategist who’s said to now be in the cold after being blocked from entering Statehouse seems to be breaking the borders for his friend Maribe. He has written letters,  written poems the only thing Itumbi hasn’t done yet is breaking down on camera for Maribe.

A source is now revealing to Kenya Insights that Itumbi has also been making daily visits to Lang’ata women prison where Maribe is being held. The source says he’s a frequent visitor and gets preferential treatment whenever he visits.

Source tells us that he’s accorded longer hours with the prisoner where they spend more time together. This has caused a discomfort in the prison walls as to why he should be given the preferential treatment.

Itumbi’s sustained court appearance is said to be giving the case pomp and frustrating Maribe’s chances of getting bail as its read that she has friends in high places that can influence the case.

The love or obsession that exists between these two is a whole new book.

  • Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta to be honoured with Black History Month, African Peace Award 2018 in British Parliament

Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta to be honoured with Black History Month, African Peace Award 2018 in British Parliament

London Political Summit this year will honour Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta for their political sportsmanship and adherence to the principle of political tolerance. This follows their Peace Accord Handshake which ended political acrimony and intolerance after Kenya’s election in 2017 which had threatened to divide the country and increase of violence.

These two great men themselves have a long rich history behind them, as both their parents were the founding fathers of Kenyan political and democratic history. It is a great privilege to identify with their latest leadership style which infers immense political maturity.

The summit will be looking at the narrow and broad concepts of political-will to act, and the public- will’s power to react, in the very context of an individual leader, or collective leadership actions in critical political decision-making in governance.

Away from being awarded, London Political Summit has created a special award known as “Raila- Uhuru African Peace Accord Award” which will be given annually to any African leader who embraces peace, values democracy and exhibits high level of political maturity and tolerance.

The awardees will go through strict criteria and vetting. Some of the criteria used will be political tolerance, people-oriented leadership, political accountability and political morality among other vital issues in governance.

Others nominated for London Political Summit are: Rt. Hon. Dr Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga MP, Speaker of Uganda parliament, Rt Hon. Diane Abbott MP UK Parliament, Prof. John Raftery Vice Chancellor, London Metropolitan University, Her Excellency Ambassador Dr Josephine Ojiambo, Former Secretary General of the Commonwealth,
On list as well, Her Excellency Ambassador Mrs Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba, Served two terms, from 2008 to 2014, as Deputy Secretary-General for the Commonwealth.

“The only motive that can keep politics pure is the motive of doing good for one’s country and its people”. Henry Ford. And to add on this Godson Azu Director of London Political Summit says:
“The paradigm shift in political thoughts and actions around the world in most recent years, has to resonate with the idea that nations should govern themselves, free from external interferences, that defies super-globalization and its current burning issues such as; climate change, disarmament, genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, terrorism, national security, and sovereignty, which requires the attention of both domestic and national politics.”

  • Accusations Emerge That South Sudan Warlord Paul Malong Paid Sh600K For Cleansing Interview As Kenyans Slams Jeff Koinange For Granting The Interview

Accusations Emerge That South Sudan Warlord Paul Malong Paid Sh600K For Cleansing Interview As Kenyans Slams Jeff Koinange For Granting The Interview

Accusations are now flying that the former  South Sudanese army chief of staff Paul Malong could have bribed his way to the screens for a ‘rebuttal’ interview following an expose done by Africa Uncensored exposing his role in looting and causing destruction and blood bath in his country.

Malong strongly denied allegations of embezzlement of public funds or committing atrocities against civilians during the five-year civil war in the country.

A recent documentary released by The Sentry and echoed by Africa Uncensored ‘The Profiteers’ once again reiterated accusations against Malong who is under UN and US sanctions about his wealth and his involvement in the war crimes during the conflict.

In a 25 minute interview with the Kenya Citizen TVreleased on Sunday, Malong further said he didn’t take advantage from his position as Governor of Northern Bahr El-Ghazal or profited from his position when he was the chief of staff.

“They did not tell us where I got the money,” he said. He further said the documentary and those who accused him have to prove that he has stolen money, give the details of these accounts and the country where these funds are deposited

“I’m not a rich man I’m just taking care of myself and my family. I have nothing,” he said.

“Northern Bahr El-Ghazal is not an oil producing state and everybody knows that,” so why the accuse me, he wondered.

Regarding the time when he was the army chief of staff, he said the minister of defence is the one who plans the army budget while the chief of staff is the implementer.

I use what is given to me for certain jobs that I’m going to do. if people say I took the tents and sold them that may be, I took ammunition and guns and sold them that may be, (…) but I do not get cash,” he said.

The same for the war crimes and atrocities, Malong said he executed the orders he received from his military hierarchy the army commander in chief President Salva Kiir.

“I was not operating independently,” he repeated.

Also, he dismissed any responsibility for the killing of civilians in Juba following the clashes at the South Sudanese presidency in July 2016.

“During the J1 fight, I was in control of the army more than any time,” he said stressing that the clashes ended at Jebel Kogor.

When asked about the rape of women in Juba, he said it was done by security soldier but not his army.

“I know what happened. It was in one of the hotels and one of the ladies said that the person who had raped her is an agent of security soldier and his name was written,” he said.

    General Malong and Malong Jr

On the UN sanction, Malong said “they are missing the point. If they speak about the cause of the war, the cause of war is Salva and Machar. Whatever I did in the army was just orders,” he said again.

The old friend of the South Sudanese president avoided criticising Salva Kiir for his sack from the position of the army chief of staff.

However, Malong said that he was disappointed when Kiir accused him of asking Kenyan, Ugandan presidents and even Ethiopian prime minister to support him to overthrow Salva Kiir.

The South Sudanese tycoon Lawrence Lual Malong Yor Jr. took part in the interview to explain that General Malong was not his father and he is not his relative.

He and General Malong said they would pursue those who continue to repeat such claims in order to prove the corruption of the former South Sudanese official.

It is ironical that General Malong ‘accepted’ for an interview with Jeff to clear his name yet he refused to give John Namu audience during the compilation of documentary to comment on the accusations.

Documentary ‘The Profiteers’ was set to air on KTN but it was cancelled on the last minute in what is speculated to have been as a result of orders given to the station to edit out Malong’s name who was adversely mentioned in the three parts documentary.

It only went to show how well connected and powerful Malong is.

New information emerging is the general could’ve bribed his way to the tv after parting with Sh.600,000 or above. According Steve Juma, a journalist, he was approached by unnamed diplomat who offered sh600K for an interview with the accused general.

Steve says he declined the offer but wasn’t surprised to watch the request materialize when Malong was hosted on Citizen TV.

    The allegations.

The controversial interview has been labeled a cleansing attempt and has brought Jeff Koinange under harsh criticism.

  • Itumbi Shows Up In Court To Prove Strong Friendship With Maribe Has An Handshake With ‘Rival’ Jowie

Itumbi Shows Up In Court To Prove Strong Friendship With Maribe Has An Handshake With ‘Rival’ Jowie

If there’s anyone who has stood at least publicly with Jacque Maribe since she got arrested and charged for the murder of Monica, that person is Dennis Itumbi.

The two are rumored to have dated before given several intimate occasions that they shared publicly including a surprise birthday party while she was live on air.

Itumbi has been consistent in standing with Jacque who together with his fiancé Joseph Irungu, have been now jointly charged for murder. The government’s digital strategist has not shied away from expressing his feelings and heartwarming messages meant for his friend Maribe.

While many of her friends have not been seen publicly expressing their support neither showing up at the court, Itumbi and Maribe’s father are the ones captured on camera having gotten closer to the accused and in court during the proceedings in solidarity.

It was a show when Itumbi had the popular handshake with his ‘rival’ Jowie In Court. Jowie is the prime suspect in the murder. A teary Maribe was overwhelmed with emotions when his ‘ex’ showed up to give her moral support.

All factors aside, one thing is clear that we’re surrounded with fake friends who’ll stick around when things are merry and vanish when things go south. You don’t need many friends, keep the small circle with loyal and worthy friends. You need friends like Itumbi who stick around regardless of circumstances.

From Whitehouse To Statehouse Kanye West Visits Uganda’s President Gifting Him Autographed Yeezys

American Rapper Kanye West who considers himself the best artist of recent times and who doesn’t shy from courting controversy has visited one of the many dictators in the continent Museveni.

Kanye who’s in Uganda with his family, apparently bought out a resort and built an outdoor studio in the bush where he’s currently recording a studio album which he says is African inspired hence the decision to record it in Uganda.

Kim receives a gift from Museveni.

    Museveni hosts the couple.

The rapper took time off to meet the country’s president Museveni who wrote on his Twitter , “I welcome American entertainment stars Kanye West and @KimKardashian to Uganda. I held fruitful discussions with the duo on how to promote Uganda’s tourism and the arts. I thank Kanye for the gift of white sneakers. Enjoy your time in Uganda. It is the true Pearl of Africa.”

Museveni is on the spot for dictatorship and reigning terror on his opponents, recently, the bully president nearly killed Bobi Wine who also happens to be a musician and now an MP. Fearing for his growing influence and popularity in Uganda especially amongst the youths, Museveni faked an incident that ended in Bobi’s driver getting killed in what is assumed to have been a bullet meant for the young legislator.

Bobi Wine was arrested, detained and tortured at military barracks where he was severely injured and had to seek special treatment in the US. He was charged with trumped up treason charges.

Kanye’s visit comes only days after the controversial rapper visited the Oval Office, Whitehouse and held meeting with Donald Trump. Kanye in his custom conditions, went on a ranting spree addressing several issues including the red hat. His visit to meet Trump has been criticized mostly by the black community who say Trump’s policies are stifling to the community and by Yeezy aligning with him, he’s considered a traitor.

  • Is Nairobi Hospital In Panic Over Increasing Avoidable Deaths

Is Nairobi Hospital In Panic Over Increasing Avoidable Deaths

One of the Kenya’s leading premium healthcare provider, Nairobi Hospital, is currently conducting a mass recruitment of doctors into their Intensive Care Unit(ICU) to deal with surging number of patients amidst challenges and deaths blamed on their staff arising from failures at the same unit.

The recruitment comes at the backdrop of a petition and report filed in court which the death of a lady  who had developed complications after a breast enlargement surgery, could have been caused by patient being mishandled at the Nairobi Hospital according to an interested surgeon in the investigations, death occurred after the neck veins were severed, a gush of blood streamed into her lungs and stomach.

The enlargement involved a fat transfer, not an implant. She later developed complications and was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where she died after few days.

The three doctors investigated exonerate themselves from her death, saying a doctor at Nairobi Hospital should be held responsible.

In affidavit, Nairobi Hospital received the lady in stable condition but it was Dr Reuben Okioma who injured her neck at the hospital, causing the injuries that led to her death. Report says after the neck veins were punctured, a blood gushed into the lady’s lungs and stomach.

She suffered hypovolemic shock, cardiac arrest and died, he said. Hypovolemic shock occurs when the body loses more than 20 per cent of the blood or fluid supply. The loss makes it impossible for the heart to pump sufficient blood.

Results of a post-mortem performed by Daniel Zuriel confirms this.

Now husband of the lady, Joseph Malupi says the management of his wife at Nairobi Hospital was wanting and her death could have been avoided.

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, which is probing the death has come under criticism over what is said to be vested interests and more so for not roping in Nairobi Hospital in the probe.

The three doctors say they fear KMPDB will blame them for the lady’s death yet “it is Dr Reuben Okioma who injured the neck vessels of the patient, causing the injuries that led to her death.”

The three doctors have accused the medical board of bias in the handling of the case lodged by the lady’s husband. The trio argues that the move is discriminatory and that the committee looking into the matter was constituted by the medical board with a sole intension of settling scores.

The committee comprises Dr Nyahim Opot, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Mr Peter Munge, the board’s lawyer, and Mr Mulupi’s advocate called Jimmy Simiyu.

It turns out that Dr Opot is a colleague of one of the three doctors under investigations at the university and would likely have a biased decision since he had a personal difference with him as well.

They also argue that all the three committee members are parties to a case in which one of the surgeons being investigated is the complainant against the board over a decision made by Dr Opot. The conflicting interests leaves a wide space for biased decisions.

The medics also allege that it is Dr Okioma of Nairobi Hospital who injured neck vessels of the late yet he has not been requested to record a statement. “All indications are that the KMPDB intends to lay blame on the trio since Nairobi Hospital and Dr Okioma have been exempted from the investigations notwithstanding that the deceased met her death while on their hands,” says Prof Kiama Wangui, their lawyer.

    Nairobi Hospital’s Recruitment Ad.

Meanwhile, sourcing are intimating to us that even though Nairobi Hospital and it’s responsible doctors are yet to be questioned in this case despite postmortem results indicating cause of death which could’ve have been avoidable and happened right st their facility, the hospital’s woes could be far from over.

Its alleged that in this year alone, there are about six cases of patients dying after neck vessels injury, similar to this case of botched surgery. Some of these cases, the hospital has been sued. It’s in this backdrop that we wonder whether Nairobi Hospital has realized incompetence and failure at their unit where there are reported cases of avoidable deaths or simply an expansion strategy.

So good is her church doing that Oracle of God church is based at the city center at an expensive hotel, 680. Theme of the church seems to be flashy and Natasha’s selling points from my observation is lavish. From a sales point of view, the flashy image could be in place to attract the youngsters to the church.

  • Henley Index: The Kenyan Passport Is Now The Strongest In The Region With 71 Countries You Can Visit Without A Visa

Henley Index: The Kenyan Passport Is Now The Strongest In The Region With 71 Countries You Can Visit Without A Visa

For some people, a passport is a portal to the world. For others, it is a barrier to the travel freedom they seek.

According to the Henley Passport Index, which is the most rigorous and sophisticated measure of global access, Kenyan passport has been ranked the 73rd most powerful powerful in the world with 71 destinations listed that you can visit without a visa or issued with a visa on arrival.

The Henley Passport Index is the only passport index that is based on IATA data, enhanced by extensive in-house research, supported by expert commentary, and updated regularly throughout the year, making it the most robust, credible, and reliable index of its kind.

Kenya which is still the strongest passport in the East African region, has however dropped in rankings compared to 2017 where it was at 68th now down by 4 points to 73 a significant drop.

South Africa holds the 3rd strongest passport in Africa at position 52 globally with 102 visa free destinations. Nigeria is at 94th with only 47 destinations.

Kenya has the 6th most powerful passport in Africa after Seychelles which is 25th with 152 destinations, Mauritius, 31st with 146 destinations, South Africa and Namibia which is at 69 with 79 visa free destinations.

Regionally, Kenya is the strongest with Tanzania coming right after at position 74 with 68 visa free destinations. Uganda, 77th with 64 destinations. Rwanda at 87th with 54 destinations.

Chart indicating Kenya’s performance over the years.

Japan has overtaken Singapore to claim the top spot on the 2018 Henley Passport Index, having gained visa-free access to Myanmar earlier this month. Japan now enjoys visa-free/visa-on-arrival access to 190 destinations, compared to Singapore’s total of 189. Japan and Singapore have been neck and neck on the index since they both climbed to 1st place in February — following a visa-exemption from Uzbekistan — and pushed Germany down to 2nd place for the first time since 2014.

This quarter, Germany has fallen further to 3rdplace, which it now shares with South Korea and France. France moved up from 4th to 3rdplace last Friday when it gained visa-free access to Uzbekistan, while South Korea moved from 4th to 3rd place on 1 October when it gained visa-free access to Myanmar. Germany, France, and South Korea all have a visa-free/visa-on-arrival score of 188. Iraq and Afghanistan continue to hold the bottom (106th) spot of the Henley Passport Index, with only 30 destinations accessible to their citizens.

The US and the UK, both with 186 destinations, have also slid down one spot — from 4th to 5th place — with neither having gained access to any new jurisdictions since the start of 2018. With stagnant outbound visa activity compared to Asian high-performers such as Japan, Singapore, and South Korea, it seems increasingly unlikely that the US and the UK will regain the number 1 spot they jointly held in 2015.

Countries that you can visit with a Kenyan passport without a visa or be issued with one on arrival can be accessed here:

Asia: Cambodia, Laos, Macao(SAR China), Maldives, Nepal, Timor-Leste.

Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde Islands, Comores Islands, Congo, Djibouti, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Mauritania, Mozambique, Seychelles, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Togo.

Oceania: Palau Islands, Samoa And Tuvalu.

    St. Lucia

    Americas: Bolivia

    Middle-East: Iran and Jordan.

This list mutates so you have to check with your travel agent.

For several years, the South African passport has remained the third strongest on the continent in terms of its levels of access, with Lrst and second place held by the Seychelles and Mauritius, respectively.

Both islands continue to outperform their continental counterparts due to their maintenance of prized visa-waiver agreements with Schengen countries as well as their own relatively open visa policies, which have generally been reciprocated.

The Seychelles, which renders itself a completely visa-free destination, secured further deregulated visa access for its passport-holders through visa waivers from the governments of Thailand and Angola in the Lrst quarter of 2018. Similarly, Mauritius, which is visa-free for all but 16 countries, secured a visa-waiver agreement with New Zealand in April 2018.

Although the rest of Africa continues to lag behind in the accessibility of their passports, there is reason for optimism. While visa-free access outside of the continent is still limited, African states are increasingly deregulating visa regulations for their continental counterparts.

A case in point is Angola, which recently removed visa requirements for nine African countries: namely, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Cabo Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Morocco, Swaziland, Algeria, and Zambia. Similarly, the undertaking of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community to grant visa waivers to passport-holders of its member states (Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Central Africa Republic, Congo- Brazzaville, Gabon, and Chad) could also be replicated by other regional political blocs seeking to promote the African Union’s vision of increasing inter-African trade and travel, as outlined in its Agenda 2063 mandate.

  • A Friend Who Lived With Monica Kimani In South Sudan Reveals What She Was Doing And Why Her Parents Are To Blame

A Friend Who Lived With Monica Kimani In South Sudan Reveals What She Was Doing And Why Her Parents Are To Blame

    Joe Kiboi who supposedly worked with the late Monica in South Sudan has spoken out giving a smaller glimpse on her life out there, he writes;

Today I woke up highly disturbed by the content of what Kenyans discuss, the advent of social media has brought about an open system and we are able to discuss anything and any topic under the sky without a care.

This brings me to the topic every person in Kenya is discussing. The rise and fall of Monica Kimani and Jackie Maribe.

Monica was my friend we met during the days I worked in South Sudan.
To me she came through as a polite down to earth fun-loving person, she did not have the airs of a spoilt child, she was ambitious and determined to make it. To what lengths she would have gone to make it is a question that we should all ask ourselves.

Some stories I have read on social media are heartless to both Monica and Jackie. We should ask ourselves where these problems emanate from.

We are a society that instead of learning from other people’s mistakes, we talk of how better we could have improvised those mistakes. We Improvise evil.

Monica like everybody else went to South Sudan to make a living and to make her life better for herself and loved ones, as far as I know she worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was just another ordinary Kenyan.

It was difficult for a person of Monica’s nature to keep working in a place like South Sudan normally, her ambition and beauty would not allow her to take an ordinary 8 to 5 job, business offers were thick left and right.

From the onset I could see she was overly ambitious, she kept a rich crowd of Sudanese around her and her “business” contacts were who is who in South Sudan.
It is in this circles that I made her acquittance.

When I met her she was still hustling as everybody is wont to call a novice business person. I am not very sure exactly what she was hustling at the time, but she was in her humble beginnings.

We all had contacts and contacts at the time were the thing that made or broke you in South Sudan, everybody then was looking for people with contacts. I had contacts in the right places and one day Monica and her brother George came looking for me. They wanted a certain favour from me.

Personally, I was not able to oblige since that was not my line of business, however in my judgment I advised her appropriately and I let it go.

We thereafter became good friends and she would call, and we would meet for drink once in a while. I was surprised at how wealthy she had become within a short time and I was equally concerned at what she was doing. I remember advising her on certain issues and unfortunately this is where we are now.

I am disturbed by the circumstances of Monica’s and Jackie Maribe’s tragic end to their stories. This seems a case of a failed parenting to me. I feel it would be wrong for me not to talk about this, we as a society have lost our moral standing.

Instead of pointing out the wrongs committed, we wish we were in those positions and we talk of how better we would have done it ourselves.
I see people saying how stupid a killer Jowi is and how they would have left no traces themselves! What a society!! Are we trying to perfect killers?

I was brought up in an era where my parents were not the only people parenting me, I was parented by my grandmother and I was parented by my neighbours.
Every move I made was seen and reported, if I truanced my folks would be waiting for me with a “Rucamio” and discipline was instilled immediately, if I fought in school my folks would know.

I constantly felt under surveillance despite the absence of technology we have today. Discipline was never postponed my neighbour or my friends’ parents in school would mete it out to us instantly and on the spot. We were taught how to be good citizen by our parents.
We were Kenya’s children and every adult was our parent.

Where did we go wrong that we no longer know where our children are and what they are doing?

The laws of our world are such that everybody has to start life from the bottom of the pack and work your way through the ranks, even in the business world you need to make a name before you can call your business a success.
We were taught to work hard! We were shown the blood and sweat route and we became proud of building our little empires piece by piece.

I am a father of two daughters and it is bestowed upon me to see their upbringing, it is my duty to educate them and prepare them for a future.
Indeed it is my duty to ensure that they make a good wife to someone out there as it will be the duty of my future father/mother-in-law to make sure that his son will be a good husband to my daughter. We were brought up to bring up families!

My parents brought us up in the hope that we shall all go and start a home and carry their names to greater heights. Life was easy, get an 8-5 job feed and educate your family no unnatural demands.

As my daughters grow, I want to know whom they hang out with, what they do and what places they go to, until my daughters are married off they continue to answer to their parents. (of course, today marriage is a choice and therein the problem lies. Probably).

Daughters are vulnerable and we as parents are obligated to protect them more than the boy child. When daughters get pregnant pre-maturely it is us parents who take the responsibility of the grandchild as our daughters reboot their lives.
Our daughters stay with us throughout.

I therefore fail to understand how a parent cannot monitor their children as they go about their business, be they boy or girl a parent needs to know the progress of their child even through adulthood. (If they can bring their child for me to look after, why wont you be accountable to me?)

Now here we are with a tale of two fathers and two daughters one dead and one in prison, one said to be having unlimited wealth and another seeking wealth. How far can we go to acquire wealth and what does it mean to us?

Monica was Twenty Nine and Jackie barely older or younger, lives cut at their buds and yet to us what matters is how this kids were wealthy and how they had acquired a celebrity status.

It was such that our parents were taken care of by both their daughters and their husbands, today we have daughters spoiling their parents with gifts whose source we don’t question, sons spoiling their mothers with endless streams of cash without questioning their source.

How can you brag that your son was in the process of acquiring a certain gift, what do you regret the loss of your child or the loss of the gift?

When your daughter is in the public domain declaring multiple relationships where are you seated? When you see your daughter posing with a person whose background is suspect and toying with guns, what are you doing? Those who play with guns look for targets!

The loss of Monica and the loss of Maribe is a parenting disaster that we should all learn from.

I will from where I sit blame the parents for letting things run this far.
Both parents failed to intervene in good time and sat back to enjoy fruits that they could not account for and the price has been too high.

I will mourn a good friend and I will sympathize with Jackie, but as parents lets get a little bit more involved with our children.
There is too much killing of young daughters by equally young sons.

  • Jacque Maribe Sheds Tears In Court As Fiancé Joseph Irungu ‘Jowie’ Smiles With The Two Charged With Murder Of Monica Kimani

Jacque Maribe Sheds Tears In Court As Fiancé Joseph Irungu ‘Jowie’ Smiles With The Two Charged With Murder Of Monica Kimani

After the celebrity couple were separated for nearly two weeks as investigations into the murder of Monica Kimani took course, Maribe and Jowie the prime suspect in the case came face to face for the first time in Kilimani court where the duo are to be charged collectively for the murder.

Inside the courtroom was a sharp contrast as Maribe appeared remorseful and regretful while th fiancé who’s the prime suspect seemed to be at ease and could even afford a smile while his girlfriend couldn’t control her tears when the two were charged in consolidation for the murder of Monica Kimani.

DPP Noordin made the decision to charge both the murder dating evidence collected was strong enough to link the two to the heinous act. Earlier, it was speculated that Maribe would be turned into a state witness and testify against her fiancé who’s the prime suspect in the murder.

In a sharp twist of events, DPP made the decision to collectively charged for the murder. In the investigations, police say that on that night, Maribe and Jowie were in the same company and that Jowie while driving Maribe’s car to Monica’s apartment, was captured in a company of someone.

Police also allege that Jowie attempted to take his life by shooting himself inside Maribe’s bedroom following a disagreement that is yet to be detailed. The clothes worn by Irungu at the crime scene were also partly burned and recovered by police at Maribe’s House. It’s aksomdaid the knife used to commit the crime and which is yet to be found, was from Maribe’s kitchen.

Prime suspect Jowie appearing to be smiling when the two were arraigned before the court and charged with murder.

Maribe was initially considered as an accessory to murder by conspiring to mislead investigations, she knowingly lied to the Lang’ata police that Jowie was shot by thugs while in full knowledge of actual act.

Businessman Brian Kassaine who’s also behind bar with his gun having been used by Jowie in the attempted suicide and said to be poised to be charged for being in possession of illegal firearm, could possibly have cut a deal to be a state witness and testify against the murder suspects.

Jacque Maribe is represented by DP’s ICC lawyer Katwa Kigen while Irungu is represented by seasoned criminal lawyer, Cliff Ombeta.

Ms Maribe appears to be distancing herself from the boyfriend Irungu when they both met for the first time in court since arrests.

    Updates:

DPP Noordin Haji says there is sufficient evidence to warrant charges against TV anchor Jacque Maribe and her boyfriend Joseph Irungu alias Jowie over the murder of Monica Kimani.

Jowie and Jacque Maribe to be remanded at  Industrial Area and Lang’ata respectively until Monday, Maribe to undergo mental assessment test.

  • ‪KRA Boss Njiraini Entangled In A Tax Evasion Scam On Undervaluing A Sh2.93 Billion Property Paying Only Sh160 Instead Of Sh29M‬

‪KRA Boss Njiraini Entangled In A Tax Evasion Scam On Undervaluing A Sh2.93 Billion Property Paying Only Sh160 Instead Of Sh29M‬

Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner-General John Njiraini undervalued a Sh2.93 billion property acquired in Nairobi, denying the taxman millions of shillings in stamp duty after paying only Sh160, documents filed in court claim.

The filings, which effectively allege tax avoidance, indicate that Mr Njiraini paid the amount as stamp duty for a property jointly owned with Kenya Revenue Authority Staff Pension Scheme Registered Trustees that was bought at a staggering Sh2.93 billion.

In the High Court filings, it is alleged the taxman potentially lost Sh29 million, being one percent of each share that Mr Njiraini — listed as a director and respondent in the case — and KRA Staff Pension Scheme Registered Trustees acquired.

In transfer documents presented as part of the evidence, Mr Njiraini and the KRA Staff Pension Scheme Registered Trustees acquired Corporate Business Centre in 2015, a building in Nairobi’s Upper Hill, which currently hosts some of the taxman’s offices.

The acquisition saw Mr Njiraini and the pension scheme replace the original owners and became new shareholders — effectively owning the property and the land it occupies.

The property is registered under Corporate Business Centre Limited. The previous shareholders and directors were Kirankumar Manubhai Patel and Mandip Singh Amrit.

Mr Amrit transferred his one share to Mr Njiraini while Mr Patel transferred his one share to the KRA Staff Pension Scheme Registered Trustees.

The two shares were valued at Sh100 and, therefore, it is this amount that stamp duty was paid for and not the Sh2.9 billion.

The revelations are contained in a suit filed by Lustman and Company Ltd that was designated as the lead estate agent between Mr Patel and Mr Amrit as directors of Corporate Business Centre Limited and the new directors.

Lustman Ltd accuses both sides of engaging in fraud by “deliberately avoiding payment of taxes by not declaring the actual purchase price of the suit property by sale of the shares purchased and allotted, failing to disclose the correct and true value of the sale transaction in the shares transfer and failing to pay the requisite stamp duty for the shares transferred”.

Lustman insists that by undervaluing the value of a share capital to Sh100 and not half of Sh2.9 billion amounts to contravention of Section 45 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.

Mr Njiraini, KRA Staff Pension Scheme Registered Trustees and the Corporate Business Centre denied the accusations.

“The defendants deny the particulars of fraud enumerated by Lustman. The defendants were under no legal obligation or contract to disclose to Lustman details of the purchase transactions,” the defence says.

In the suit papers, Lustman further charges that despite having been the lead agent for the transaction, the two sides secretly connived and dropped them from the proceedings when the deal reached the penultimate stage thereby denying the company its commission.

“By an agreement in writing contained in the letters dated 08/08 2014, 12/08/2014 and 14/08/05 2015, Lustman Limited, which is a duly registered estate agent, was requested and agreed to act as the Corporate Business Centre Limited agent in getting and sourcing for a purchaser for its property and the building thereon situated in the upmarket area of Nairobi Upper Hill area … In consideration for a commission of two per cent of the sale price,” Lustman noted.

The agent would have pocketed at least Sh58 million. Lustman further says it dutifully devoted time to search for a buyer before settling on the pension agency.

But unknown to the agents, the property was acquired through purchase and transfer of shares of the company registered as the owner of the building namely Corporate Business Centre Limited.

“Out of the sale transaction valued at Sh2.93 billion, the defendants failed, refused and have rejected to pay to Lustman Ltd for its services rendered as an estate agent thereby denying it its rightful commission despite being aware that Lustman introduced Mr Njiraini and the KRA Staff Pension Scheme Registered Trustees to the Corporate Business Centre Ltd after which they bought and had transfer in their favour,” Lustman says.

On December 18, 2015, Corporate Business Centre Ltd directors, Mr Patel and Mr Amrit, held a meeting that resolved to transfer the shareholding to the new owners.

Additional directors appointed on that day include Constantine Kandie, Evans Kaikai, Kimotho M’ Mukindia, Fiona Waithira, Christopher Were, Samuel Tororei and Alfred Maritim.

The property in question is located on Elgon Road, Upper Hill Nairobi. It sits on two acres and has a lease of 99 years from October 1, 1988.

It has 266 parking lots and its initial selling price was Sh1.8 billion as indicated in a letter by Lustman Ltd to KRA in July 2015.

In his defence, Mr Patel said at no time did he and Mr Amrit contact Lustman Ltd as estate agents.

He said the three letters Lustman Ltd mentions that originated from Corporate Business Centre Ltd were not from him or Mr Amrit, and disowns one Morrison Wayaya who had signed the letters on behalf of the property company.

“All transactions by the Corporate Business Centre over the property and in particular letters and contracts were always signed by both the directors. Further, all the agents were engaged through signed contracts which bore the signatures of both the directors,” Mr Patel swore in his response.

He further states that correspondence between the Corporate Business Centre and KRA Staff Pension Scheme Registered Trustees was not copied to Lustman Ltd.

“In any event, there was a billboard on site advertising the property for sale and the recommended letting agent on the billboard was Knight Frank. The availability of the building for sale was therefore a matter of public knowledge,” Mr Patel says.

In his defence, Mr Amrit echoes Mr Patel’s stand. Mr Njiraini and the pension scheme trustees said that at no time did they contact Lustman Ltd.

But in their reply to the denials of Mr Patel and Mr Amrit, Lustman Ltd states that Mr Woyaya was the general manger of their property.

The company further indicates that its employees introduced the representatives of Mr Njiraini and those of KRA Staff Pension Scheme Registered Trustees to the offices of Corporate Business Centre in Westlands, Nairobi.

“The claim of there being a billboard by Knight Frank and the issue of public knowledge is therefore not applicable to this suit,” Lustman Limited says. The High court is yet to set the hearing dates for the suit.

How Businessman Cum Fraudster David Mapili David defrauded Millions

Controversial businessman David Mapili aka Mapili David Mapili is among three people arrested in connection to Sh 88.8M Fraud in Nairobi Kenya.

He was arrested alongside George Ochieng’ Onyango, Mercy Wahiga Wanjiku, and Jackson Kiharo Mwondi for defrauding a Nairobi businessman of millions of shillings in a scheme involving the award of fake government tenders the facts they knew to be false.

The four were on Monday arraigned at a Kiambu Court where they were charged with the offence.

According to the court papers, the accused persons falsely obtained Sh88.8 million from businessman Idris Ahmed Buro.

The DCI believes that the accused person, David Mapili, and his accomplice are part of a cartel that operates within government offices and uses fake letters and Local Purchase Orders to award inexistent tenders to victims.

It is alleged that the four had given Buro three fake tenders amounting to Sh230 million. One of the tenders required him to deliver Panolin Hydraulic Lubricant to the government printer for Sh74.5 million.

Also in the other two contracts, the fraudsters asked him to supply 797 laptops to the ICT ministry for Sh125.9 million and software for Sh28.7 million.

Buro said one of the suspects posed as the acting head of procurement at the Ministry of ICT during the award of the tender. “I would even meet him at the ministry’s offices on either the 9th or 10th floor,” he said.

The businessman says he imported the computers from China and delivered them to the ICT ministry, but was asked to take them to a store in Hurlingham.

Police say they have impounded expensive cars believed to have been acquired using the money received from Buro.

The vehicles include a Ford Ranger double cabin and a brand-new V8 Land Cruiser.

Impunity Thriving In Muthaiga With Peponi Springs Structre Erected On Riparian Land And Road Reserve

    Hello Kenya Insights,

I’d like you to highlight an issue of illegal structures in the most influential neighborhoods in Nairobi where the elite class reside, deep in Muthaiga, stands Peponi Springs which sits on a riparian land and on a road reserve.

When left to flourish, impunity and corruption becomes deeply embedded in the fabric of our society affecting each and every one of us. I am not the first person to tell you about the unprecedented levels of corruption in our country has and whether you live in Kibera or Kitisuru, corruption has become a way of life.

    Section of the facility

Peponi Springs doubles as a car wash and restaurant smack in the middle of the upmarket Muthaiga and Kitisuru estates. The bar not only plays loud music but is slowly cutting trees to build structures along the river.

So I ask myself, who in Sonko’s government approved these structures to be built right next to a river in the middle of the neighbourhood that houses Kenya’s high and mighty?

That is the audacity of corruption today! In the wake of the Taj Mall demolition, I’m also keen to see whether the residents of Muthaiga and Kitisuru will act in protest to protect their homes and investments, or will they give in to the will of the owners of Peponi Springs?

According to contacts on Peponi Springs Facebook Page, the establishment belongs to one Mr. Leonard N. Njogu … We see you Mr. Njogu, question is, have Gov Sonko and NEMA seen you? Just how powerful is this person that he easily managed to put up such a structure in the heart of the serene neighborhood and create havoc with his loud music.

Sonko In The Running To Buy The Sh3B 680 Hotel From Jac Patel

According to Africa Intelligence, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is in the run to bag Hotel 680 which was recently put up for sale by Indian billionaire Jac Patel who’s determined to let go his entire line of hotels.

Under the umbrella Sentrim Group, the businessman, who also owns seven other hotels sough to get rid of all eight premises in an invitation for bids for sale.

Sentrim sought to sell the hotels through Knight Frank, a firm that provides residential and commercial property advisory services.

In the advert placed by Knight Frank, the firm sought to “represent the sale of the entire Sentrim Hotel portfolio comprising of three prime city investment and redevelopment properties and five excellently located lodge/tented camp properties.”

The 680 hotel, located at the intersection of Kenyatta Avenue and Muindi Bingu, has been a constant source of controversy. It was rumored that the hotel had been acquired by DP Ruto at Sh3B in which Sh2B was paid upfront. Critics of the DP have alleged that the sale of Sentrim Group is a ploy by the DP to launder his supposedly ill acquired wealth.

The other seven hotels put up for sale include: Sentrim Boulevard, Sentrim Castle Royal, Sentrim Mara, Sentrim Tsavo, Sentrim Amboseli, Sentrim Elementaita and Sentrim Samburu.

It would be a case of high curiosity should the Governor acquire the Hotel whose value would appreciate from the previous estimations. It would concern EACC should this acquisition material given his known salary and value of property. The Indian Ocean newsletter which is a reputable outlet, say their information came from a source at the real estate agency.

Death Of Chris Msando, the IEBC’s tech guru who was brutally murdered in unclear circumstances continues to linger on many Kenyans minds an year later. One of the most outstanding memories is his wife’s testimony and strength shown during those trying moments.

  • The Painful Death Of Monica Kimani, They Tied Her Hands, Slit Her Throat And Dumped Her Body In The Bathtub

The Painful Death Of Monica Kimani, They Tied Her Hands, Slit Her Throat And Dumped Her Body In The Bathtub

As the nation comes to terms with the death of Sharon Otieno, the Rongo University student who was found murdered and body dumped in a thicket in what is suspected to be out of fallout from the affair she had with Migori Governor Obado, another bizzare killing has struck.

Monica Kimani, 29 was found murdered in the coldest way, her severely mutilated  body was discovered by her brother George at Luciane Apartments on Kitale Lane off Denis pritt road. The killer(s) slit her throat open, dumped the body in bathtub ? left the water running in what reads like a murder movie.

It remains unclear how the killers would commit such a scale of crime at a gated and heavily secured neighborhood which is just near to the private home of the President.

    Monica at her home

According to the brother who discovered her lifeless body, the two were chatting on that night before she went silent and he assumed she had slept. However, her calls and texts went unanswered the next day which was unusual of her according to the family prompting the mother to send George to go check on her sister and that’s when he came to discover the horrific news after breaking the door.

Detectives are trying to join the dots in the mysterious murder and it has been established that Monica hosted two of her friends Wednesday night before her body was found in a bloodbath on Thursday At 1pm.

Monica had just returned from South Sudan where she runs an established business and even her social media pages points at her wide networks with Sudanese. The family has a business there too. She was about to fly to Dubai for vacation before she was struck.

    As she celebrated her birthday

The motive of the murder is yet to be established but looks like a professional hit, it takes extra guys not only to cut open one’s throat but to comfortably walk in and out of such an establishment after the murder. With keen investigations, CCTV footages both within the apartment and out on the road in that estate will easily piece up the movements and identities of killers.
