Gor Mahia have secured their record-extending 21st FKF Premier League title after thrashing relegation battling Muhoroni Youth 3-0 at the St Sebastian Park in Murang’a on Sunday.

  • Boxing: Oleksandr Usyk Beats Tyson Fury To Become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

Boxing: Oleksandr Usyk Beats Tyson Fury To Become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

Tyson Fury suffered a split-decision points defeat on a dramatic night in Saudi Arabia as Oleksandr Usyk became boxing’s first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion.

On a grand stage and on a legacy-defining night, Briton Fury began well but was given a standing 10 count and saved by the bell after an Usyk onslaught in the ninth round.

In a tense wait for the scorecards to be read out, Fury appeared convinced of victory before a stoney-faced Usyk broke down in tears when he was confirmed as the winner.

The scorecards read 115-112 and 114-113 for the Ukrainian, with a third judge scoring it 114-113 to Fury.

It meant Fury, 35, lost for the first time in a 16-year professional career. He will get an immediate opportunity for revenge with a rematch planned for later this year.

“I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority,” a defiant Fury said in the ring.

“It was one of the daftest decisions in boxing. I’ll be back.”

Usyk takes the WBC belt from Fury, to add to his WBA, WBO and IBF collection.

The 37-year-old remains unbeaten and is the first boxer in almost 25 years to stand tall as the sport’s sole heavyweight world champion.

“Thank you so much to my team. It’s a big opportunity for my family, for me, for my country. It’s a great time, it’s a great day,” Usyk said.

“Yes, of course. I am ready for a rematch.”

    Usyk edges history-making fight

Usyk – a former undisputed cruiserweight world champion – prevailed in a fight of two halves at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena, propelling himself into the conversation to be considered an all-time great.

After a lack of buzz and noise in the arena for the undercard, not unusual for a Saudi card, a crowd of 20,000 that included famous faces such as Cristiano Ronaldo found their voice for the main event.

Usyk – resembling a warrior – made his entrance wearing a striking all-green traditional Ukrainian outfit, his eyes fixated on the ring.

In contrast to Usyk’s sternness, a playful Fury sang and danced to Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For A Hero.

He raced to the ring and headed straight to Usyk’s corner and goaded his opponent, to the enjoyment of 2,500 travelling British fans.

As the two champions advanced to the centre of the ring at the chime of the first bell, the painstakingly long wait to crown an undisputed champion was about to end.

A smiling and brazen Fury showboated his way through the first round. Even when Usyk landed a solid left hook and backed him into the corner, the Gypsy King dismissively laughed it off.

Fury responded with two painful-looking uppercuts to Usyk’s midriff in the second.

The height and reach advantage of Fury was posing too much of a puzzle for Usyk to solve, or so it seemed.

Usyk has been guilty of starting slowly in the past and was badly hurt by an uppercut in the sixth as the fight appeared to be slipping away.

But he spectacularly came back in an astonishing ninth round.

With Lennox Lewis, the division’s last undisputed champion in the three-belt era, and fellow former champions Larry Holmes and Evander Holyfield watching on from ringside, Usyk finally found his rhythm.

After a barrage of overhand lefts, a dazed Fury staggered around the ring – seemingly out on his feet – and into the ropes.

He was given a 10 count before the bell rang as the momentum suddenly swung in Usyk’s favour.

This was not the boring, tactical, chess-like match-up some pundits predicted but a barnstormer, living up to the pre-fight hype from fans and promoters.

Another bruising left hand caught Fury in the 11th. The pair touched gloves before the 12th – there was a feeling there was still all to play for.

But it was a spirited Usyk who may have just edged a competitive final round, and ultimately perhaps that got him across the winning line.

Usyk’s unshakable will prevails against a fit Fury

October’s lacklustre performance against debutant Francis Ngannou left many wondering if Fury’s best days were behind him.

But he was a conditioned and fit competitor here, and any suggestion of his demise were quashed when he controlled early parts of a close encounter.

His chance of becoming an undisputed champion, however, may not come again soon.

A rematch is in the works for October but it is unlikely to be for all four belts – the IBF plan to strip Usyk as he will not be facing their mandatory challenger next.

“We’ll go back, rest up. I believe I won the fight but I’m not going to sit and cry and make excuses. We’ll run it again,” Fury added.

Fury may be licking his wounds behind closed doors when the dust settles as Usyk’s unshakable will to win and mental toughness prevailed in the Middle East.

The heavyweight world title is considered by boxing lovers as the greatest, most coveted, prize in sport, and the Crimea-born fighter left the ring draped in all four belts across his 6ft 3in frame.

Usyk, who competed as a middleweight as an amateur, showed that size does not always matter.

  • PSG Star Mbappe Will Join Madrid: La Liga Chief

PSG Star Mbappe Will Join Madrid: La Liga Chief

La Liga president Javier Tebas says Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe will join Real Madrid next season.

The 25-year-old France captain announced last week he is leaving PSG at the end of his contract this summer, without specifying his destination, and Madrid are poised to sign him after years of failed attempts.

“He’s Madrid’s next season, yes,” Tebas told Argentine daily sports newspaper Ole on Monday.

“If they’ve signed a five-year deal, he has five seasons of opportunity (to win the Champions League).”

Mbappe is set to join a star-studded Madrid team led by Brazil’s Vinicius Junior and England international Jude Bellingham.

Los Blancos strolled to the Spanish title and are in the Champions League final at Wembley against Borussia Dortmund on June 1.

“(Mbappe) is one of the best players in the world, but Vinicius and Bellingham are there too, Madrid will have a great squad,” continued Tebas. “But that does not guarantee you will win leagues.”

Mbappe is PSG’s all-time record scorer with 256 goals, having joined the club from Monaco in 2017 for 180 million euros ($194 million).

With PSG he won six French league titles but failed to earn Champions League glory, finishing as runners-up to Bayern Munich in 2020.

By joining record 14-time winners Real Madrid, Mbappe would increase his chances of finally earning club football’s most prestigious trophy.

  • Boxing: Mike Tyson Warns Jake Paul Ahead Of July Fight

Boxing: Mike Tyson Warns Jake Paul Ahead Of July Fight

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, preparing for his first professional fight since 2005, warned YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on Monday (May 13) that his life will be on the line during their July 20 bout.

The 57-year-old Tyson, speaking at New York City’s Apollo Theater during a press conference to promote a fight against an opponent who is 30 years his junior, said he wants to show the world he is still a great fighter.

“I really like Jake a lot but once he’s in that ring he has to fight like his life depends on it, because it will be,” said Tyson.

The heavyweight bout at the Arlington, Texas home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys will be contested over eight two-minute rounds with each fighter using 14-ounce gloves. The outcome will be included in both fighters’ professional boxing records.

Tyson, who said he requested the shorter rounds because he feels it will lead to greater action and a more entertaining fight, shot back at critics who suggested he is making a big mistake by returning to boxing.

“The people who said that wish they were up here,” said Tyson. “Because no one else can do it. Who else can do this? Who else can shut the sporting world down, no one else can do it. So you got the both of us.

“We’re friends, but in that ring we’re not going to be friends.”

Tyson also said he did not hesitate at the chance to fight Paul.

“It was a no-brainer,” said Tyson.

“He was the new up and coming guy on the scene and I like shaking the sports world to it’s core and I’m doing it now. It’s just something I want to do.”

Paul, a 27-year-old YouTube influencer-turned-boxer, has won nine of 10 boxing matches with six knockouts against a mix of celebrities and middling fighters.

He suffered his sole career boxing loss in February 2023 when he lost a split decision to Tommy Fury, the half brother of World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Paul said people should not overlook Tyson.

“Age doesn’t matter, age is just a number. He’s a killer, he’s a warrior, he’s been doing this his whole entire life. So it’s second nature to him. I’ve been doing this for four years,” Paul said.

Paul suggested he is being underestimated by Tyson and boasted that he has more power than the man once considered one of the most feared men in the world.

“I know it’s going to be tough, I know I’m going to have to fight through adversity, I know I might even go to the canvas,” said Paul.

“I’m scared, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not about the fear stopping me, it’s about going into it even though I am scared and that’s what true bravery is.”

Tyson and Paul will participate in another press conference on Thursday in Arlington.

  • Kylian Mbappe Announces He’s Leaving PSG

Kylian Mbappe Announces He’s Leaving PSG

(AFP)-Kylian Mbappe confirmed on Friday that he will leave French champions Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, with Real Madrid widely expected to be his next destination.

The announcement brings an end to a prolific association with his hometown team, which began when he signed from Monaco in 2017 in a deal worth 180 million euros ($194 million).

“I wanted to announce to you all that it’s my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks,” Mbappe, 25, said in a video posted on social media.

“I will play my last game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.”

PSG have already secured the Ligue 1 title, their 10th in the last 12 seasons, and the Qatar-owned club will pick up the trophy after Sunday’s game against Toulouse, which will be their last of the campaign on home turf.

Luis Enrique’s side were eliminated from the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals on Tuesday when a 1-0 loss in the second leg at home sealed a surprise 2-0 aggregate defeat.

It means Mbappe will be denied the send-off he had hoped for in the Champions League final at Wembley on June 1 and will end his seven-year spell at PSG without ever having won Europe’s elite club competition.

Mbappe informed PSG privately in February of his intention to depart when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

The 2018 World Cup winner had never confirmed publicly he was leaving, though, far less said where he will be going next, but it appears certain that he is bound for Real Madrid.

“It’s a lot of emotions, many years where I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world,” said Mbappe.

“It allowed me to arrive here, to have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure, to grow as a player of course, by being alongside some of the best in history, some of the greatest champions,” he added.

“It’s hard and I never thought it would be this difficult to announce that… but I think I needed this, a new challenge, after seven years.”

    Second largest fee in history

Mbappe’s arrival in the capital as a teenager in 2017 came after he had helped Monaco win the league title.

After initially joining PSG on loan, his transfer fee became — and still is — the second largest in football history.

It came just weeks after PSG paid a world-record 222 million euros to sign Neymar from Barcelona.

PSG have dominated French football since their 2011 Qatari takeover, but despite also adding Lionel Messi to their line-up for two seasons, European success has remained tantalisingly out of reach for a club that has spent billions on some of the world’s best players.

The closest they came was the 2020 Champions League final defeat by Bayern Munich, when PSG academy graduate Kingsley Coman scored the winning goal against his former club.

The defeat to Dortmund this week ruled out the prospect of Mbappe facing his likely future employers, 14-time European champions Real Madrid, in this year’s final.

Mbappe did not find the net in that tie but has scored 43 goals in all competitions this season, with 26 of those coming in Ligue 1.

He will still hope to add to his club-record tally of 255 goals for PSG and win another medal in the French Cup final on May 25 — Mbappe has so far won six Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups and the now defunct League Cup twice in his seven years at his hometown team.

After Sunday’s game, PSG will complete their league campaign with away matches at Nice and at relegation-threatened Metz, before Mbappe wraps up his career with the club in that Cup final in Lille.

Mbappe was frozen out at the start of the campaign with the club putting pressure on him to sign a new deal or agree to be sold rather than simply run down the last year of his contract.

His relationship with PSG boss Luis Enrique has also come under the spotlight since he told the Qatar-owned club of his plans to leave earlier this year.

Now the worst-kept secret is out and Mbappe’s departure follows that of Messi and Neymar at the end of last season, which left PSG in a period of transition, but the loss of the France captain is an even greater blow.

His BBC shows and guest appearances cemented his TV presence.

Beyond motoring, he explored history and engineering, even hosting Robot Wars in 1998 and his talk show, Clarkson, from 1998 to 2000.

After a BBC contract non-renewal in 2015 due to assaulting a producer, he, along with his team, formed W. Chump & Sons for The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime Video.

Known for his opinionated humor, Clarkson’s actions often spark controversy, but he’s also revered for reviving Top Gear’s popularity.

    Professional Career

Clarkson’s career path began in journalism. He started as a local journalist for the Rotherham Advertiser before moving on to become a motoring journalist for The Sun and The Sunday Times.

His writing style, characterized by wit, bluntness, and a touch of irreverence, quickly gained him recognition.

    Jeremy Clarkson TV Shows

Jeremy Clarkson’s career has been heavily intertwined with television, particularly shows centered around cars and his signature brand of humor.

Here’s a breakdown of some of his most notable programs:

    • Top Gear (1988-1998, 2002-2015): This is arguably the show that launched Clarkson to global fame. Initially presented by a different team, Clarkson took the reins in 1988. The show’s format, featuring car reviews, challenges, and international adventures, found immense success under his leadership. Joined by Richard Hammond and James May in 1998, the trio’s on-screen chemistry became legendary. Awards and Honors

Clarkson has three children from his first marriage. He is known for his outspoken nature, which has landed him in hot water on several occasions.

Despite the controversies, Clarkson remains a popular figure, known for his humor, wit, and genuine passion for cars and farming.

Jeremy Clarkson Comment on Kenyan Airport

English TV presenter and motor enthusiast Jeremy Clarkson expressed his strong criticism of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after he voiced his dissatisfaction with Kenya’s main airport.

Clarkson, reacting to a discussion he initiated on X, heavily criticized JKIA in response to his followers’ opinions on the ‘stupidest airport in the world’.

Initially, Clarkson identified Madrid’s airport as the ‘stupidest’, but when a follower suggested Lagos, Nigeria, Clarkson quickly changed his mind.

The follower mentioned the inconvenience of being stopped numerous times between the door and the seat at Lagos airport, highlighting its flaws.

As the conversation shifted to Africa, Clarkson clarified his stance, stating that JKIA was worse than Lagos airport, from his perspective.

While some Kenyans agreed with Clarkson, others found his remarks rude and possibly racist, expressing their discontent.

  • I Feared For My Children Lives, Eliud Kipchoge On How Internet Speculations Impacted His Life

I Feared For My Children Lives, Eliud Kipchoge On How Internet Speculations Impacted His Life

Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge says in an interview with the BBC that he feared for the life of his family and that he was sacrificed to an online hate campaign in which he was wrongly linked to the death of fellow Kenyan marathon runner Kelvin Kiptum.

    Kelvin Kiptum

Kiptum, the world record holder who was on point Kipchoge’s dominance on the marathon definitive over the taking died at the age of 24 from the consequences of a car accident in February. Some social media users began to speculate that Kipchoge was part of a conspiracy to kill Kiptum. Kiptum improved Kipchoge’s world record marathon in Chicago last October and put it at a wee hour and 35 seconds.

    Family and family threatened

‘I was shocked that people on social media platforms claimed ‘Eliud is involved in the death of this boy,” said 39-year-old Kipchoge.. That was the worst news ever in my life.” I have received many bad things; that they will set the training camp on fire, that they will burn my investments in the city, that they will burn my house, that they will burn my family.” It didn’t happen, but that’s just how the world is put together.”

Kipchoge’s first reaction when he saw the abuse and the false rumors was to see if his family was safe. “I don’t have the power to go to the police and tell them that my life is in danger. So I wanted to tell my family to be extra careful,” he said.

“I started calling a lot of people. I really feared that my children would go to school and not come back.” Sometimes they cycle around, but we had to stop them because you never know what will happen. We went to take them to school and pick them up again.” My daughter is at boarding school – that was positive that she didn’t have access to social media – but it’s hard for my boys to hear ‘Your father killed someone’.”

    Mother

Kipchoge was overwhelmed by emotion during a candid interview at his home in Eldoret when he talked about the impact the abuse campaign had on his mother. “My worst moment was when I tried to call my mother,” he said.

“She said to me ‘Be careful’ and ‘A lot has happened’. Where I come from is a real outland. That my mother already knew about the threats hit me hard and I realized that social media has influence everywhere. But she gave me courage. It was a really tough month.”

    Lost ninety percent of friends

However, Kipchoge, who only became the third person to win consecutive Olympic marathons when he defended his title in Tokyo in 2021, decided not to take precautions for his own safety. “I saw no reason to change training location because my life is transparent,” he explained.

“Our sport is not exercising in the gym, but going outside to run. I walk freely on the street.”

Kipchoge claims he lost ‘about 90%’ of his friends due to the wrong link to Kiptum’s accident and online abuse.

“It was really painful for me to hear even negative words from my own people, my training mates, those I contacted. I was really depressed when I experienced that.”

    Poor performance in Tokyo

Kipchoge’s team decided to remove him from social media in the aftermath of the hate campaign, but he said he never considered deleting his accounts.” If I delete my accounts, it shows that I’m hiding something,” he said. “I will keep accounts I haven’t done anything.”

However, he believes the abuse of social media has affected his performance during the Tokyo marathon. Kipchoge finished 10th during the Tokyo Marathon on March 3, his worst finish since his debut in 2013.

He crossed the line more than two and a half minutes behind the winner Benson Kipruto. “When I was in Tokyo, I didn’t sleep for three days,” he revealed. “It was my worst final standings ever.”

    Olympic marathon

Despite that setback, he was included in Kenya’s marathon team for the Paris 2024 Olympics last Wednesday and is now focusing on writing more history at the Games if he wants to win a third gold medal in a row.

“It’s about getting up and going straight again, towards your goal,” added Kipchoge, who became the first person to run a marathon under two hours in 2019, albeit under controlled conditions in Vienna.

“I want to go into the history books, be the first person to win the Olympic marthon three times in a row.”

    Dangerous

Kipchoge has himself been the victim of harassment and threats and believes that social media companies are ‘not doing much’ to prevent abuse on their platforms. “These faceless people post bad things and are really dangerous,” he said.

“If you report some accounts, it will take a while before they delete those accounts. They need to act quickly, collect the facts, and delete accounts. People need to know that if you say something that is not right, your account will be deleted.”

However, Kipchoge has welcomed an announcement from the International Olympic Committee that it plans to “react proactively and on a large scale” to protect athletes from online abuse during Paris 2024. The IOC plans to use artificial intelligence, to help recognize offensive messages and report them to social media companies.” I think that’s the right method,” said Kipchoge.

    Trust

But for Kipchoge, it’s already too late to prevent the emotional scars he’s suffered.” I’ve learned that friendship can’t be forever,” he said. I’m sorry this happened at the moment I’ve been active in the sport for over 20 years.” What happened has made me not trust anyone anymore. I don’t even trust my own shadow.”

  • Senate Probe Betika Over Rampant Failure To Pay Out Winnings

Senate Probe Betika Over Rampant Failure To Pay Out Winnings

The Senate’s Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare is investigating a betting company Shop and Deliver Limited operating in Kenya as BETIKA for alleged breach of the betting rules.

During the Tuesday’s sessions, Nandi Senator Cherargei rose to the floor for an answer from the committee regarding the failure by Shop and Deliver Limited to pay out winnings in breach of the betting rules.

The senator also sought to get explanations from the committee on any regulatory oversight exercise by relevant government agencies over the operations of betting companies, especially preventing underage gambling as well us upholding fair play and consumer protection.

Apparently, the senate has been receiving endless complaints from Kenyans who’re accusing Betika of shortchanging them by refusing to pay them mostly on larger amounts and in which the firm is accused of coming up with flimsy excuses.

    Mysterious disappearances

One of the controversial cases being investigated by the senate include a prominent one where Collins Kiptoo, a Nandi Hills resident, allegedly lost 1.2m out of 1.5m he had won on betting at Betika Aviator.

After withdrawing Ksh 300,000 from his account, he found his balance empty after 24 hours. He called Betika customer care and was told he had lost the money after placing auto bets.

Kiptoo when he stormed the Betika offices.

Kiptoo insists he did not stake any bet after the deposit and is demanding to know who withdrew his money. He believes his money was stolen from his account by the firm.

Another case contested is that of Richard Githogori who claims to have won Sh1,021,706 in the Betika Super League Mega Jackpot in March 2023, the company took him rounds through legal blockades denying him access to the winnings.

    Betika loses appeal

In March this year, the sports betting company, lost an appeal against a court decision requiring them to pay gambler David Juma Sh500,000 won in a Sh10 jackpot bet.

High Court judge Samuel Mohochi dismissed Betika’s appeal, stating that it lacked sufficient merit to overturn the original Small Claims Court ruling. Betika’s appeal sought an extension of time to deposit the winning sum into a joint interest-earning account within 30 days and a stay of execution of the initial judgment pending the determination of their appeal.

Betika failed to meet the 21-day deadline and applied for an extension of 30 days, citing delays caused by the bank’s processing of account opening forms. Betika argued that the delay was beyond its control and was due to bureaucratic processes at the bank. Juma, the plaintiff, opposed Betika’s application, labeling it as incompetent and an abuse of court process.

The legal battle began after Betika failed to honor its commitment to pay Juma Sh500,000, which he had won in a jackpot bet. The small claims court ruled in Juma’s favor, ordering Betika to pay him the full amount of Sh500,000. The court found Betika liable for breaching its contractual obligations to Juma.

Former Harambee Stars Player Gattuso Detained For Rape, MurderOf A 3-Year-Old

Former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia player Collins Okoth alias Gattuso is currently being held at Pangani Police Station for alleged rape and murder of minor.

The 3-year-old girl was found dead outside the building in Lucky Summer Estate where she stayed with her mother and it is believed Gattuso had a hand in her demise.

The incident was initially reported by the area’s assistant chief on the 22nd of April 2024 at Lucky Summer Police Station under OB17/22/04/2024. It was later picked up by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives in Pangani where the matter is still under investigation.

According to the police report, the child was found half-naked to signal she was sexually assaulted and dead behind her mother’s apartment on the ground floor. Police say she had bruises on her neck symbolizing strangulation.

The child’s mother had left the house at 1am and returned at 4am to find her missing. A friend she lived with in the house was also missing.

Gattuso was arraigned in Makadara court on Monday where Gilbert Kiprotich the DCI officer handling the case said that Okoth lived on the first floor of the same building and was arrested because he became restless after a weapon suspected to have broken into the child’s mother’s house was recovered.

Okoth is suspected to have thrown the object through his window. He was arrested on April 23, 2024, and booked at Pangani police station.

In making his prayer to have the suspect detained for longer period to allow for further investigations, the officer told the court that the former footballer was at flight risk as he had attempted to flee the scene before his arrest.

“The respondent (Okoth) packed some of his belongings in the house and was prepared to vacate from the house. On 22,4,2024, at around 6am Okoth left his house while carrying some of the clothes with a nylon paper and he came back hours later preparing to vacate the house,” he said in the affidavit.

The detective told the court that he’s pursuing the involvement of other suspects in the murder and needs time to record statements of prosecution witnesses, gather mobile data records of suspects, and retrieve CCTV footage for forensic analysis.

Okoth will be escorted to the Government Chemist for DNA analysis and later to Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital for mental assessment.

  • Chinese Athlete’s Win Revoked; Probe Show Kenyan Runners Slowed Down For Him

Chinese Athlete’s Win Revoked; Probe Show Kenyan Runners Slowed Down For Him

The winner of Beijing’s half marathon He Jie and three African runners have had their results cancelled after an investigation found that the three slowed down near the line allowing the Chinese athlete to finish first, organisers said on Friday.

He had won the race held last Sunday in China’s capital in a time of 1:03:44, a second ahead of Ethiopian Dejene Hailu Bikila, and Kenyans Robert Keter and Willy Mnangat, who tied for second place.

The organising committee said in a statement that the three African runners “actively slowed down in the last 2 kilometres and as a result He Jie won the men’s championship.”

All trophies, medals and bonuses will be withdrawn and the athletes will be reported to the Chinese Athletics Association, it said.

Race operator, the Zhongao Lupao Beijing Sports Management company, will also be disqualified from hosting and operating the Beijing half marathon, the committee added.

Mnangat told the BBC that the trio ran as pacemakers and were not competing.

However, the committee said pacers would not have been allowed to participate as specially invited athletes without organisers’ approval.

The Zhongao Lupao Beijing Sports Management company said its partner Xiamen Xtep Investment, a unit of Hong Kong listed Xtep 1368.HK, failed to note the relevant pacer information, which led to the organising committee not being informed.

“Our company has unshirkable responsibility and would like to experience our sincere apologies to all runners.” He has been sponsored by Xtep since 2021 according to its website.

Xtep said staff had made a mistake during the registration process and did not identify the pacers.

“We bear a great responsibility and fully accept the punishment decision made by the organising committee,” Xtep said in a statement.

He was slightly behind the three African runners as they approached the end of the race but they slowed down and waved the Chinese athlete ahead as they gestured towards the finish line. The four had run together throughout the race of just over 13 miles.

The finish drew widespread scepticism with some social media users commentating that the result was “embarrassing” for He, a member of China’s marathon team and national record holder.

Long distance running races are increasingly popular in China but have a chequered history of cheating and poor organisation. In Shenzhen’s 2018 half marathon 258 participants were caught cheating, most of whom had taken shortcuts while some wore fake bibs and others were impostors.

‪Beijing Half Marathon Probes Controversial Win By Chinese Runner Handed To Him By Kenyan Athletes‬

Beijing authorities are investigating Sunday’s Beijing’s half-marathon after footage shared online showed three African runners appearing to slow down near the finish line to allow China’s He Jie to overtake them and win.

He won in a time of 1:03:44, a second ahead of Ethiopian Dejene Hailu Bikila and Kenyans Robert Keter and Willy Mnangat, who all tied for the second place.

Videos, which Reuters was attempting to verify, showed the three African runners waving He, who was slightly behind them, in front and gesturing towards the finish line. All four had run together for the entire race of just over 13 miles.

He, a member of China’s marathon team and national marathon record holder.

The event’s organiser – the Beijing Sports Competition Management and International Exchange Center – referred a Reuters enquiry to the half-marathon’s organising committee.

The Beijing Sports Bureau, the municipal body in charge of sports, said an investigation was under way and the findings would be published later.

The state-controlled Global Times newspaper said He’s performance “drew scepticism as the three African runners seem to deliberately slow down for He to catch up”.

But many comments on social media were scathing, calling the race “embarrassing” or a “performance”.

Mercedes’ Regression in Formula 1: Analyzing the Challenges of a Dominant Force

For the last decade, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team has been the dominant force in Formula 1, rewriting the record books and redefining excellence in motorsport.

However, as the 2020s progressed, cracks began to appear in the armor of the Silver Arrows, signaling a regression from their once-unassailable position at the top of the grid. In this article, we delve into the factors contributing to Mercedes’ regression in Formula 1 and analyze the challenges faced by the team in their quest for continued success.

Get the 1xBet bonus and start your smart way in betting.

Dawn of Dominance: Mercedes’ Era of Excellence
Mercedes’ journey to dominance in Formula 1 began with their return to the sport as a full-fledged works team in 2010. With the advent of the hybrid era in 2014, the team’s fortunes skyrocketed as they capitalized on the new regulations to establish themselves as the preeminent force in Formula 1. Led by the formidable duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, Mercedes embarked on a relentless pursuit of victory, clinching multiple world championships and rewriting the record books with unparalleled success.

The Highs and Lows of 2020: A Season of Uncertainty

The 2020 Formula 1 season was a rollercoaster ride for Mercedes, marked by moments of triumph and adversity. While the team continued winning with another Constructors’ Championship, their dominance was punctuated by occasional setbacks and challenges from rival teams, most notably Red Bull Racing. Technical glitches, strategic mishaps, and fierce competition on the track highlighted the Silver Arrows’ vulnerabilities, foreshadowing the challenges ahead.

Regulatory Changes: Adapting to a Shifting Landscape

One of the key factors contributing to Mercedes’ regression in Formula 1 has been the impact of regulatory changes aimed at leveling the playing field and promoting closer competition.

As Formula 1 seeks to enhance the spectacle of racing and increase parity among teams, new regulations governing aerodynamics, engine development, and budget caps have been introduced, posing challenges for established powerhouses like Mercedes. Adapting to these changes while maintaining their competitive edge has proven a formidable task for the Silver Arrows.

Rising Competition: The Emergence of New Challengers

In addition to regulatory changes, Mercedes has also faced increased competition from rival teams eager to dethrone the reigning champions. Teams like Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari have made significant strides in closing the performance gap with

Mercedes, posing a credible threat to their dominance on the track. With talented drivers, innovative engineering, and strategic prowess, these challengers have raised the stakes in Formula 1, intensifying the battle for supremacy and putting pressure on Mercedes to deliver consistently strong performances.

Internal Dynamics: Managing Team Dynamics and Transitions

Amidst external challenges, Mercedes has also had to contend with internal dynamics and transitions within the team. Nico Rosberg’s retirement in 2016 and the subsequent arrival of Valtteri Bottas as Hamilton’s teammate brought about changes in team dynamics and leadership, requiring adjustments both on and off the track. Additionally, the departure of key personnel and changes in technical leadership have further contributed to the team’s evolution, presenting both opportunities and challenges for Mercedes as they navigate the complexities of Formula 1.

Strategic Evolution: Embracing Innovation and Adaptation

Despite their challenges, Mercedes remains committed to maintaining their competitive edge through strategic evolution and innovation. From investing in research and development to refining their engineering prowess, the team continues to push the boundaries of performance and technology in Formula 1. By embracing change and adapting to new realities, Mercedes aims to overcome the hurdles of regression and position themselves for sustained success in the ever-evolving landscape of motorsport.

Looking Ahead: The Road to Recovery and Renewed Success

As Mercedes navigates the challenges of regression in Formula 1, they remain steadfast in their commitment to reclaiming their status as the dominant force on the grid. With a talented roster of drivers, a world-class engineering team, and a storied legacy of success, the Silver Arrows are well-positioned to overcome adversity and return to their winning ways. By harnessing their collective expertise, resilience, and determination, Mercedes aims to write a new chapter of triumph and renewal in the annals of Formula 1 history.

In the dynamic and fiercely competitive world of Formula 1, regression is an inevitable part of the journey for even the most dominant teams. Yet, through adversity, true champions are forged, and Mercedes remains determined to rise to the challenge and reclaim their rightful place at the summit of motorsport. As they embark on the road to recovery and renewed success, the Silver Arrows stand poised to overcome the obstacles and write the next chapter of their storied legacy in Formula 1.

‪What Nike Has Done To Eliud Kipchoge Is A War Crime, His Lawyer Says‬

Kenyan lawyer Donald Kipkorir DBK has angrily reacted to marathoner Eliud Kipchoge’s Nike kit for the Olympics.

DBK who has been a legal representative for the athlete in some cases here in Kenya was not amused by the kits terming it as an act of war, “what NIKE has designed for Kenya’s 2024 Paris Olympics casual & what it has designed for US & others. It is like NIKE asked Kanye West to design our uniform when drunk! NIKE underpays our athletes by as low as 1% what they pay US athletes. Then they give us alien clothes!” He wrote in a tweet attached with photos for comparison.

Kenyan star athletes Faith Kipyegon and Eliud Kipchoge showcase the Team Kenya running kits for the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Nike Product Launch in the French’s capital.

Kipchoge plans to win third Olympic Games marathon

Kipchoge expects to make history with his third consecutive Olympic marathon gold medal at this year’s Games in Paris, he told Reuters in a interview on Thursday, adding that there were no thoughts about retirement yet.

Ethiopia’s Abebe Bikila, East Germany’s Waldemar Cierpinski and Kipchoge are the only athletes to have won two Olympic gold medals in the marathon when they retained their titles.

“My huge expectation actually is to win the Olympics for the third time,” said Kipchoge, who turns 40 in November and finished 10th at last month’s Tokyo Marathon.
That result and his relatively vintage age has not made him doubt his chances in Paris, Kipchoge said.

“I think I just got tired … I don’t know what happened but it’s life, it’s sport, it’s the beauty of sport.”

    Retirement plans
As questions swirl over whether Kipchoge plans to retire soon, he reiterated his commitment to trying to inspire people of all levels to keep on the move, saying: “If you can convince me that the moment I will be crossing the finishing line the whole world has become a running world then I will retire.”

Asked whether he could race at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Kipchoge said: “You know in Kenya we say you don’t chase two rabbits at a time, you will miss all of them. You chase one. So the rabbit of the Olympic Games is what I’m chasing now. After that I go back to the drawing board, see what’s in my bucket list and start again to chase the next.”

In 2019 Kipchoge became the first person to cover the 42.2km marathon distance in under two hours, though the record was unofficial as he had teams of pacers and was not in open competition.

Athletics Kenya named their marathon shortlist for Paris last week, including Kipchoge, Benson Kipruto and Timothy Kiplagat, and defending women’s marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir alongside Birgid Kosgei and Hellen Obiri.

A tragic absentee was Kelvin Kiptum, who died in a car crash in Kenya’s Rift Valley in February and, having destroyed Kipchoge’s world record by over half a minute last October with a time of 2:00:35, had been widely seen as the sport’s best hope to break the two-hour marathon mark in an official race.

Asked whether he sees that milestone being hit soon, Kipchoge said: “We have a lot of talented athletes … first is to dare to think to break, secondly is to dare to do it. I have shown them the way.”

In a first for the Olympic Games, the head of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, announced on Wednesday that athletics gold medallists in Paris will earn $50,000 each, with silver and bronze also set to get prize money from LA 2028 onwards.

“I don’t run because of money but I run because I want to perform,” Kipchoge said, adding: “It was a great idea for Seb Coe and World Athletics … for the young generations I think it’s a good idea to develop – it makes sport more interesting.”

According to a Statement, a total prize pot of USD2.4mn has been ring fenced from the International Olympic Committee’s(IOC)  revenue share allocation, which is received by World Athletics every four years.

There are 48 athletics disciplines at the Olympic Games.

The news will be a further welcome financial boost for Kenyan athletes, as a gold medalist will now be assured of at least Sh11mn from their sweat, with the Kenyan government having announced that every global gold medalist will be awarded Sh5mn.

“The introduction of prize money for Olympic gold medallists is a pivotal moment for World Athletics and the sport of athletics as a whole, underscoring our commitment to empowering the athletes and recognising the critical role they play in the success of any Olympic Games,” World Athletics boss Seb Coe said in the statement.

World Athletics says it will start by rewarding gold medalists in Paris, but the plan is to reward all medalists starting from the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

The payment of prize money will depend upon the World Athletics ratification process, including athletes undergoing and clearing the usual anti-doping procedures.

Elias Kiptum Maindi, a retired athlete together with coach Paul Kibet Simbolei have been jailed for 18 months’ for forgery and conspiracy to implicate Kenyan top athletes in mass doping scandal.

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Court has on Tuesday sentenced Kiptum for forgery and conspiring to give false allegations against top Kenyan athletes to foreign media.

The duo prepared documents purporting that doping was being promoted and encouraged by several state agencies in the country to have Kenya suspended from participating in the Olympic Games, among other international events.

Kibet and Kiptum forged documents purportedly signed by officials from the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (Adak) and Athletics Kenya (AK) that they shared with Europe-based journalists who have been part of the ring.

The court noted that the two, with help from influential and powerful people outside Kenya, attempted to present a picture that there was government-sponsored doping.

Kiptum was found guilty of 13 offences and has been given an 18-month jail term for each offence, which runs concurrently.

The second accused person in the case, Paul Simbolei a former athlete , was found guilty of on one account of the 13 offences of conspiracy to cause harm and has been released after the court ruled that he has already served a two-year jail term during the pre-trial period.

In her ruling delivered on Tuesday, JKIA Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku said Kenya has never had any state-sponsored doping cases as portrayed by the two accused.

The judge added that the case carried the gravity of damaging Kenya’s reputation if the documentary was aired.

“Such a move would potentially prove disastrous for Kenyan sport. Athletes would lose the opportunity of participating in the most prestigious event,” she said, adding that months, even years of planning, would go to waste.

The magistrate added that the reputational damage would be an enormous shadow cast over the country’s involvement in other international events.

“Worse still is that a ban on Kenya as a country would affect all sports and not just those caught in doping,” she said.

Adak took the firm stance because of the possible consequences had the country been banned from participating in all athletics events internationally, including this year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Kiptum has, however, been given two weeks to appeal against the ruling.

The court, however, declined the maximum sentence of 3 years for Kiptum as requested by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya in the case, which was filed in June 2021.
