Scientist Who Discovered HIV Says Coronavirus Is Man Made

Editor’s note – SARS-COV-2 is the technical name of the novel coronavirus purported to cause covid-19

French Nobel prize winning scientist Luc Montagnier has sparked a fresh controversy by claiming that the SARS-CoV-2 virus came from a lab, and is the result of an attempt to manufacture a vaccine against the AIDS virus.

In an interview given to French CNews channel and during a podcast by Pourquoi Docteur, professor Montagnier who co-discovered HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) claimed the presence of elements of HIV in the genome of the coronavirus and even elements of the “germ of malaria” are highly suspect, according to a report in Asia Times.

“The Wuhan city laboratory has specialized in these coronaviruses since the early 2000s. They have expertise in this area,” he was quoted as saying.

The theory that Covid-19 virus originated in the lab is making rounds for quite some time.

US President Donald Trump last week acknowledged Fox News report that the novel coronavirus may have been accidentally leaked by an intern working at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China.

The Fox News, in an exclusive report, based on unnamed sources has claimed that though the virus is a naturally occurring strain among bats and not a bioweapon, but it was being studied in Wuhan laboratory.

The initial transmission of the virus was bat-to-human, the news channel said, adding that the “patient zero” worked at the laboratory. The lab employee was accidentally infected before spreading the disease among the common people outside the lab in Wuhan city.

Professor Montagnier was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine for the identification of AIDS virus, with his colleague professor Françoise Barre-Sinoussi.

His fresh claim on coronavirus, however, received criticism from scientists, including his colleagues.

“Just in case you don’t know. Dr Montagnier has been rolling downhill incredibly fast in the last few years. From baselessly defending homeopathy to becoming an antivaxxer. Whatever he says, just don’t believe him,” tweeted Juan Carlos Gabaldon.

As per a recent Washington Post, two years ago, the US embassy officials in China raised concerns about the insufficient biosafety at the Chinese government’s Wuhan Institute of Virology where deadly viruses and infectious diseases are studied.

Though the institute, located quite close to the Wuhan wet market, is China’s first biosafety level IV lab, the US state department had warned in 2018 about “serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory”

Nelson Havi: DCI To Put Blogger Nyakundi In Forced Quarantine

There’s an exchange of fire online if you’re active on Twitter then you must have noticed it. This follows a notice given on DCI’s Twitter against blogger Nyakundi over an impending arrest. “#WANTED| Mr. Cyprian Andama Nyakundi is WANTED by the @DCI_Kenya Regional Criminal Investigations Office – Nairobi following the issuance of a warrant of arrest in respect of him from the Chief Magistrate’s Court Milimani after he failed to attend Court as expected.” The tweet reads.

Nyakundi has been arrested for posting on his twitter page that the KRA boss had traveled abroad and rained to self quarantine on his return.

Nyakundi would later be released on a police bond. He had been accused for Publication of False Information Contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act.

Courts like many other public institutions, have been working from home following directives by the CJ David Maraga. LSK President Nelson Havi, however protested this and asked for an open court sessions.

On Tuesday, the CJ ruled out the possibilities of resuming and allowing open sessions cori g dangers posed to vulnerable judicial officers and eruption of spread of coronavirus.

And now with Nyakundi’s case hitting the limelight, the LSK Chair Havi jumped to his defense, while replying to the DCI’s public summon, Havi said, “How is he supposed to have attended a Court that is not open but operates digitally from home? The Magistrate doesn’t want to be infected. Police cells are full to the brim. Guess where they will take him upon arrest? Forced quarantine! How does that solve the problem?”

Blogger Nyakundi on the other hand, defended himself in the court of public opinion that the DCI put him in, “1. Never been processed to appear before Milimani Law Courts. I know before you appear in court for plea taking in criminal matters, there must be fingerprints etc. Nothing! Arrest warrant shocking.” He stated.

He continued, “I’d like @DCI_Kenya, @ODPP_KE and @dkmaraga to investigate how a warrant of arrest has been issued against me yet I have never been processed to appear at the Milimani law courts for plea over a post that a KRA manager died of Covid19.”

“The alleged story of a KRA manager that died of #Covid19 was also done by other media houses including @Kenyans @dailynation etc but now Nyakundi is the focus. This is harassment. Even Nyakundi has rights.” Reads part of his tweets.

“The KRA matter that I was also accused of sharing about is currently active at the Kibera law courts. The process was followed (Fingerprints, statements etc).” He opined.

The tussle has now degenerated into an only exchange for two camps, you can do a search on Twitter about Nyakundi and see the results and the general views.

  • Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Hints at Filling a Lawsuit Against China on The Consequences Of Covid-19

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Hints at Filling a Lawsuit Against China on The Consequences Of Covid-19

China’s troubles are far from starting, while the country where the virus originally emanated from hence referred to as Wuhan/China virus boasts of having contained Covid19, the worst could just be starting for them.

China whose official figures remain under 4,000 despite accusations that they covered up the true figures, has its normal lives back in track but the world is not buying.

Germany, recently through a newspaper memo, threatened to sue the Chinese government for compensation for upto $162B. It’s not just Germany eyeing this. Suburban NYC County has also sued the Chinese government and the WHO for conspiring to escalate the pandemic by disclosing crucial information to contain the virus.

There have been suggestions by experts to have Chinese government to pay for the huge loses cost to economies especially to the struggling Africa’s.

In Kenya, major economic pillars like tourism and agriculture has literally ground to an halt. As a mitigation measure, most firms have worthier closed down or reverted to working from home.

In America, over 25 million have already been rendered jobless and applied for unemployment benefits. The state of Missouri through their Attorney General, Eric Schmitt, is filling a lawsuit against Chinese government for causing severe economic consequences in the state.

“COVID-19 has done irreparable damage to countries across the globe, causing sickness, death, economic disruption, and human suffering. In Missouri, the impact of the virus is very real – thousands have been infected and many have died, families have been separated from dying loved ones, small businesses are shuttering their doors, and those living paycheck to paycheck are struggling to put food on their table,” said Attorney General Schmitt. “The Chinese government lied to the world about the danger and contagious nature of COVID-19, silenced whistleblowers, and did little to stop the spread of the disease. They must be held accountable for their actions.”

Kenya’s SC Ahmednasir Abdullahi who has been openly vocal about Chinese capture and destruction of the Kenyan economy, hinted at the closest possibility of pursuing the case and suing China Fr the sane consequences. “The FIRST OFFICIAL LAWSUIT by a STATE in America against China on the cause and consequences of the Coronavirus…more will follow all over the world…and I’M CAREFULLY studying the relevant laws…” He hinted.

Ahmednasir has not been mincing his words and a largely suspicions of China, “From masks to testing machines and even VENTILATORS, CHINA has flooded the world with faulty third rate and fake equipment…it’s in the DNA.” He noted.

chinas billionaire Jack Ma took to his Twitter yo announce about a 3rd batch of medical supplies donation to Africa and once again the vocal lawyer didn’t mince his words, “I just hope the quality and standards are up there.” There have been cases where medical supplies from China were found to be contaminated with coronavirus as in the case of UK and being substandard as in Spain where they were returned.

Its only time that will tell how the SC will go and how hard he will punch.

  • Barcelona FC Is Giving Up Their Stadium Name Camp Nou To Raise Money For The Fight Against Coronavirus

Barcelona FC Is Giving Up Their Stadium Name Camp Nou To Raise Money For The Fight Against Coronavirus

Spanish football powerhouse Barcelona will give a sponsor naming rights to the Camp Nou stadium for the first time to raise funds for the fight against coronavirus, the club announced on Tuesday.

In a statement, the club said its board of directors has “approved the ceding of the title rights to Camp Nou for the season 2020-2021 to the Barca Foundation to raise money to invest in research projects being carried out in Catalonia and the rest of the world involved in the fight against the effects of COVID-19.”

The foundation will now look for a sponsor who will be able to rename the Camp Nou stadium for one season – the first time in the iconic venue’s over six-decade history.

Camp Nou, which has a capacity of nearly 99,000, has been Barcelona’s home since 1957.

Commercializing stadium names through sponsorship deals has been a rising trend worldwide in recent years as it allows clubs to generate extra revenue.

Europe, along with the U.S., is the hardest-hit area in the world in the coronavirus pandemic.

Spain has the highest number of cases – over 204,100 – on the continent and its death toll of more than 21,200 is behind only the U.S. and Italy.

More than 2.5 million cases have been reported in 185 countries and regions since the virus emerged in China last December, with the death toll close to 172,000 and nearly 660,000 recoveries, according to data compiled by the U.S.’ Johns Hopkins University.

  • Investment Guru: Strong Dollar Won’t Survive The Coronavirus Pandemic

Investment Guru: Strong Dollar Won’t Survive The Coronavirus Pandemic

The U.S. dollar will not continue its current strength as both the government deficit and its monetary policies pose great dangers to the currency, a prominent international investor warned on Tuesday.

“So far the dollar has been very strong against some currencies, up more than 20% this year, against the Brazilian real and Mexican pesos, but if you look at the fiscal deficit of the U.S. and all the money printing, I just can’t believe that it will continue to be strong,” Marc Faber, a Swiss investor said.

The dollar could be strong for another 10 days or so, but in the long run, the U.S. monetary policies are dangerous and negative for the currency, he added.

Saying that to date emerging markets have not rallied a great deal in the current crisis, he said there is a window of opportunity for the next two to three months to make some money in emerging markets, including in Turkey.

    Bankruptcies

On the pandemic’s economic impact, Marc Faber said interventions by governments to stem the crisis will have serious effects.

Western economies already faced serious problems before the virus hit, he said, and now with the coronavirus crisis things will get worse, he added.

“The U.S. Fed started intervening in the repo market starting from September of last year. Then the coronavirus came and we had this huge intervention, monetary and fiscal measures,” he related.

“That is cushioning the recession and depression, but I think after all the restrictions are lifted, a lot of businesses won’t be opening, a lot of people will go bankrupt and companies will default.”

Stating that the global economy system will change drastically after the pandemic is under control, Faber said that airline revenues plunged 95%.

He added that this situation will improve when international flight service resumes, but the previous high levels may be out of reach.

Some people will think they no longer need to travel and would prefer to talk by video link rather than face-to-face visits with customers, he predicted.

“People’s behavior will change,” he said

Stating that economies in the wake of the virus will have new winners and losers, Faber said: “Platforms such as Amazon, Netflix, and Zoom have won. [Brick-and-mortar] retailers are losers.”

“Some big retailers will never be able to open their shutters again,” he predicted.

  • Panic In Parliament: A Tanzanian MP Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Panic In Parliament: A Tanzanian MP Tests Positive For Coronavirus

A Tanzanian member of parliament has tested positive for coronavirus, triggering calls for a suspension of on-going House sessions.

Without naming the politician, Deputy Speaker Tulia Ackson said the MP had travelled to the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, the country’s epicentre of infections.

She believes that is where the MP contracted the virus.

Parliament’s sessions started three weeks ago, albeit with fewer MPs in the chamber, shorter hours of discussions and some debates held over video conferencing facilities.

Speaker Job Ndugai has defended reconvening amid the epidemic, arguing that the country’s important operations must continue.

Mr Ndugai, together with President John Magufuli, have disapproved of stricter measures such as a lockdown to curb the spread of the virus in the country.

But some politicians want parliament to be suspended to allow for disinfection of the chamber and testing of all MPs to identify and quarantine those who may be infected.

“There shall be no two set of laws – for MPs and for the people. All MPs should be isolated, tested and contact-traced. Right from the beginning we advised that the parliament sessions should not be held. It’s dangerous,” said Zitto Kabwe, an opposition MP and leader of the ACT-Wazalendo party

Another opposition MP, Upendo Peneza, previously suggested a lockdown for Dar es Salaam city to curb the spread of coronavirus.

“Because Dar es Salaam has the largest number of cases, people from there shouldn’t be allowed to go to other places so as to stop the spread of the infection to other regions. Only movement of basic goods and services should be allowed,” said Ms Peneza said in parliament.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Tanzania now stands at 254 and 10 deaths, with the virus spreading into close to half of regions of the country.

  • Africa: The ‘New World Order’ – A Chance for Africa?

Africa: The ‘New World Order’ – A Chance for Africa?

    GUEST COLUMN

For decades, Africa has struggled to find its way in a process of globalization and being led by money powers with, as a consequence, an increasing widening of inequalities: more prosperity for a tiny minority and  more poverty for the greatest number.

The world seems to be moving towards progressive dehumanization.  The achievement of man is no longer the major concern, but the strengthening of capital through an endless accumulation appears as the priority objective.

Like a machine out of control, the world of men has run into a frantic race for more profit.  It is a race led by men who will themselves be forgotten at the end of each transformation process.

Production is localized with the objective of seeking productivity and profitability gains.  Profit sites become the centers of creation of world wealth, a force for good which would be best shared for the greatest happiness of humanity.

I wish through this reflection, and in these difficult times that cross all the nations, to challenge Africa, through its leaders and our Union (the African Union) through its members, to play as a continent in its own right.  I should say as an African Nation.

At the moment when a new world is being built before our eyes, giving birth to a new world order, the Africa we love so much must be a leading player in this process.  I mean as an actor and not spectator.  United Africa should not only claim this place but also take charge of it if necessary!

I would like to quote President Emmanuel Macron in his speech of April 13 “it is our responsibility to build solidarity today, new cooperations”.  I understand here the “responsibility” in the inclusive sense of the term (African leaders), because he had just spoken in other words marked by sincerity, of the need “to help Africa at the economic level with a massive cancelation of debt”.  This posture of President Macron is to be commended for its fair value.  It is up to African leaders to play their full role by speaking with one voice, that of Africa, the one that our youth expect.  With all the assets now in hand, we must not desert the youth who are watching us!

Africa has it’s say in this new globalization, in this globalization of the economy.  Some silver lining!  The present and especially the coming times will certainly be among the saddest and perhaps the most heartbreaking in the history of mankind, but with great hope that a new world, full of hope and renewal will open up.  Humanity is seized with doubt, because of an invisible virus which is crossing the world to sow desolation. “Powerful” countries compete for leadership with poor countries every night at the announcement of the daily results and the gruesome ravages of the disease on a planetary scale.

The gap between rich and poor countries is suddenly “bridged” because the consequence is the same for all rich and poor. The solution so far has not been found and the powerlessness of the people continues to assert itself every day.

I said that Africa has a say, yes!  Africa has its say. Africa must act here and now, with full responsibility, taking its full place, relieved of this burden of an inferiority complex.  Africa will no longer have this alibi, after this period in the contemporary history of peoples, to make it clear that everything that happens to it is due to others … Africa is facing its destiny.  This is where the idea of an African Nation through all-African solidarity will make sense.

Africa must think quickly and well.  It has the means, the skills and the support of friendly countries around some major non-limiting issues.

    1. What will be the place of our continent in this new global socio-economic governance with a model that until now has just shown its limits?  What governance at last will put the development of the HUMAN in the broad sense of the term at the heart of all concerns and not the development of the MAN in the individual sense.

According to reports from the World Bank and OXFAM, it is mentioned that because of the novel coronavirus pandemic, Sub-Saharan Africa:

    • is moving towards its first recession in 25 years;

    • growth should retract between 2019 and 2020, going from 2.4% to a range between -2.1% and -5.1%;

    • the contraction of agricultural production will be between 2.6% and 7% (trade deadlock scenario) with losses between 37 and 79 billion dollars in 2020;

    • an unprecedented food crisis

    • a decline of 10 or even 30 years in the fight against poverty (OXFAM);

    • food imports will decrease by 13 to 25% (for countries which are not self-sufficient);

    • the disaster is that half a billion people could fall by the wayside

The G20 has just met, with all due respect to the G20 authorities, I fear that this will be another missed appointment with “56% of the total of the extremely poor people in the world” According to the last report  World Bank Triennial on “Extreme Poverty in the World” the reorganization and the relaxation of the conditions of payment of the debt do not have the same scope as the cancellation of the debt.

Faced with such an apocalyptic scheme, Africa expected from the G20 a bolder, unequivocal response to support the BUDGETARY effort of the States.  Several researchers and analysts have said this.  World Bank Vice President Hafez Ghanem calls official bilateral creditors to a debt service moratorium … to free up cash … and save lives.  I would say that you must dare to go further, towards debt cancellation as suggested by President Macky Sall alongside other African leaders, and as President Macron has just reiterated, so as not to be in a perpetual flight forward which will sooner or later overtake us.  We all know that the response to such a crisis can no longer be solely budgetary, whatever the will of the States.  Liquidity must be injected into the economies to support not only households in difficulty, but also businesses and the informal sector.  The informal sector in Africa, known to all, is one of the most important pillars in the fight against poverty in view of the structure of our social model.

If we want to restart the African economy in conditions of true resilience, all intellectuals know that canceling the debt is the ONLY ALTERNATIVE.  The Bretton Woods institutions (like the G20, moreover) should not set us on a different path by relying on all the instruments at their disposal.

This is why I welcome the initiative taken on April 13, 2020, by the IMF Board of Directors with debt relief for 25 countries, including 6 WAEMU countries, even if it remains insufficient (six months) pending the initiative launched to find the resources to complete for the next two years.  I question myself, however, on reading the full list of beneficiaries, and taking into account the time horizon (2 years), on the exclusion of Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal, for an initiative that wants to provide “subsidies to our poorest and most vulnerable members to cover their debts to the IMF”.  Let us hope that this exclusion will only concern the first 6 months at the risk of seeing a technical and democratic debate take place around the relevance of this decision.

I do not deny the efforts made by the IMF in Senegal through the instruments which are the Rapid Facility Instrument (IFR) and the Rapid Credit Facility (FCR) for nearly 277 billion.  However, lightening is not synonymous with indebtedness even on milder and less restrictive conditions in the provision.  The objective is not only to contain the shock, but to review the profile and the weight of the debt on our economies.  This will free up spaces in the hope of a real resilience of our weak economies to the resumption of economic activity.

Africa in general and the WAEMU countries in particular, today need a massive injection of liquidity, even with the risk of freeing up inflation in a responsible way, to support the productive sectors within the framework of activities.  We should take advantage of this to bring our health care system, that of education and RESEARCH, which we often tend to neglect to the point of pushing our researchers to expatriation.  Some countries were unable to provide emergency services (if any) with a minimum of respirators, masks and protective clothing for medical personnel, when orders in the north were made by the thousands.  I salute in passing the great sacrifice and highly civic behavior of the health personnel who worked in disastrous conditions to manage this pandemic.  These people who gave their lives to save that of others (in all countries of the world) deserve beyond the decorations (if they have any) to be cited as martyrs.

Africa and the world in general expect us to review this model of globalization which everyone knows has reached its limits.  And the most striking demonstration was given by the absence of immediate, coordinated and united responses to some of the most basic requests to fight this pandemic …… with the impossibility of satisfying urgent requests because excessive (regional) centralization of production by profit centers.  The consequence was an indescribable cacophony and an unprecedented state selfishness in the face of the suffering next door, despite all the supposed “benefits” of globalization that we have always been praised for.

For more justice, this economy integrated by globalization can no longer be a corridor arranged so that the search for prosperity for the smallest number is the only objective, even an unconscious one.

Profit centers should no longer be concentrated in a single region for the greatest benefit of the greatest number.

    2.  We need a new link with the Bretton Woods institutions to make their mode of intervention in the “weakest Nations” a little more flexible.

IMF initiatives such as IFR and FCR are to be welcomed.

The convergence criteria have been put to the test.  The dogmatism of the budget deficit at 3%, inflation at less than 3% in economies like ours, where we are under construction, faced with emergencies every day must remain the same even if we know, that faced with the crisis, the noose is a bit loose around the budget deficit.  Even if we know, the tempering effort of interest rates will certainly stimulate demand and keep businesses in a situation of controlled risk.

    3.  What new directions can we give to the United Nations specialized agencies for greater responsiveness even if we can give them the benefit of the doubt because of the spontaneity (suddenness) and the scale of the crisis.

A great deal of reflection must be carried out in this direction with far-reaching reforms on the side of the institutions, but also of the States, so that the latter, in the event of a divergence of interests for the benefit of the greatest number, that they have the latitude to suspend their State party obligation.

    4. Finally, we must pursue relationships of genuine friendship with the “Great Nations” by dismissing (putting on hold) the adage that “the Nations have no friends but only interests”.

  • Dr. Misango: Covid-19 Is Not A Deadly Disease, It Has Been Made Deadly For A Reason

Dr. Misango: Covid-19 Is Not A Deadly Disease, It Has Been Made Deadly For A Reason

    By Dr. Samson Misango

Kenyans, let me remind you of my youth, a long way back, when I was a newly qualified doctor who would do everything according to how I was taught. We called it working according to the book.

The persons who wrote that book went by the names of Hutchinson, Bailey, Love, Anderson, Apleys, Schwartz, Moore, Ganong, Greenwood, Blackwood, Whitewood and all other wood colours you can imagine….

I think you get my drift..(if you don’t, maybe this post is not for you….????)

We were supposed to read the many westernised compilations these people wrote…and quote them as authorities on medical matters….and quote them we did, like the Bible.

We needed to, all the way from early medical school.

We had to satisfy some local and international examiners who believed in these same teachings for the senate to recommend us to continue to the next level of study, and ultimately recommend that we were deserving of being given powers to read and do all that appertains towards the award of our medical degrees

We received those medical degrees with a lot of pomp, glamour and glitz…relatives came to join us from the village in all manner of dressing and vehicles, carrying banana leaves, Christmas decorations, bibles and all other things our simple people celebrate achievements with.

Most of us went on to read as asked, but we forgot to do all that appertains towards that degree as empowered.

There was a certain pandemic disease at the time called HIV (they called it novel then). It was a scourge in the 90s, some people still consider it as such. (Poor misguided souls).

One of my most distressing moments as a young doctor in a ward round at the time was coming across a patient labeled as HIV positive. The patient would be neglected. Abandoned by relatives, friends and health care workers..let me explain….

We would dutifully and enthusiastically be treating a patient for TB or diarrhoea or severe pneumonia or meningitis or Malaria etc…until someone (usually an intern doctor at the instigation of the consultant) triumphantly displayed some positive HIV test results…then the mood would change…

The consultant would declare…”Wow, this disease is serious, it is finishing our people….we have to avoid it at all costs. You can see how it comes up everywhere and has frustrated all our treatments…Now, please do the necessary.”…

Which meant we do the barest minimum to maintain the patient comfort as the patient wasted away to a stigmatized and lonely death….we called it palliative care..but it was more of supervised neglect.

Many sincere doctors will relate to this dangerous situation where a patient is given a terminal illness and their condition then becomes terminal.

Patients diagnosed to be HIV positive rarely survived beyond 1 week after this ominous diagnosis (how could they, after health care workers, friends, relatives and the system gives up on them….?)

We would come across similar situations in mortality meetings where we discuss patients’ deaths and how they could be avoided. A patient being HIV positive was not considered a good patient for discussion because the death was a foregone conclusion…! A post mortem (after death) diagnosis of HIV for a complicated case resulted in many doctors having flash bulb moments..”oh…so that was it…”

It took me a while before I realized that many of these patients died with HIV, not of HIV. The HIV just stigmatized and jeopardised their treatment.

Health care workers are human beings…they are trained to deal with cases without feelings but feelings sometimes get in the way….feelings introduced by people who decide to introduce these feelings.

Fast track to later life ..I became a surgeon, many many years later. But my pathway there is a story for a another day. Let me not digress.

In ward rounds and medical interactions, I now discourage medical students, junior doctors or any other colleagues from informing me the HIV status of patients who are undergoing treatment for whatever condition. This is so even despite some donors making it mandatory for all hospitalised patients to be tested…they are collecting data for some joint government and donor funded research….one day we will be given the results…

Here we are now, with another pandemic called Covid-19 Coronavirus, that some people want us to believe is so deadly and that it is causing the death of many infected people.

Senior medical and non medical officials are all over telling all and sundry just how we have to avoid contracting this disease at all costs, going to the extent of deploying police to enforce public health measures to protect the public from contracting and transmitting the disease.

Any medical personnel, after looking at trends in different countries and studying our own trends, will tell you that this is a mild infection that most people will recover from without anything to talk about. We have however reacted to it with all manner of prescriptions aimed at stigmatising the infection….not for our own benefit but for the sake of fulfilling some donor requirements or prescription…(why else would we be reacting this way?)

Patients who are critically ill in hospitals or dying in ICU are being tested for Covid-19….if found positive, their treatment is going the old HIV way…stigma, isolation, quarantine etc…

Without downplaying the significance of Covid-19 to some groups of people, I have refused to let this highly infectious but mild disease take us where HIV took us…we lost our minds and followed the donors.

I was young then. I am now older, more self actualised and wiser.

There are many people.. scratch that…there are very many people who are Covid 19 positive. It is here with us and it will not go away. Widespread community antibody testing will soon show that….it is a simple, cheap and quick fingerprick blood test that picks out people who have previously been infected and recovered or are recovering, NOT NECESSARILY SICK.

It is not a test to diagnose Covid-19 positive patients who are actively sick to isolate, quarantine or treat….but some people will start doing that (little knowledge is very dangerous)

Being Covid 19 positive does not mean death and is not a reason to get stigmatized. Many people will die with Covid-19 and not due to Covid 19.

Some donor (Belinda Gates) has loudly broadcast that the true extent of the infection will be known after we do mass testing….they are concerned that we are not yet dropping like flies as predicted in their models.

The reason we are not dropping like flies is because so far, many deaths cannot be attributed to the virus since we are not doing mass testing…. otherwise…many deaths would be wrongly attributed to the infection.

Remember, we have many other diseases that kill us… daily. We have never stopped our country for them. Once mass testing starts, someone will want you to believe that Covid 19 is the cause of these deaths. Do not board. RESIST!

We have stopped our country for this unknown disease that has been overhyped by the press and used to fight a superpower economic war with China.

Do not allow it to convert you into headless chickens running around the country waiting for directions from more headless chickens.. following a script from some imperialists.

    Think…..Read…..Get informed.

Covid 19 is not a deadly disease…..it has been made deadly for a reason.

Do not spread panic about it…Do not justify draconian state measures towards containing a minor infection…we have more deadly infections to worry about.

Practice good basic hygiene to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

  • Global Covid-19 Deaths Pass 170,000

    Global Covid-19 Deaths Pass 170,000

The number of deaths worldwide from the novel coronavirus surpassed 170,000 late Monday, according to a running tally by U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

The university’s data counted 170,042 fatalities while the number of cases and recoveries stood at 2,473,209 and 646,012, respectively.

The U.S. continues to be the worst-hit country, recording more than 784,500 cases and 42,138 deaths.

Italy has the second-highest death toll at 24,114, while Spain has the second highest number of cases with 200,210.

Overall, the virus has spread to 185 countries and regions since it first emerged in Wuhan, China in December.

Despite the rising number of cases, most people who contract the virus suffer mild symptoms before making a recovery. Kenya has 270 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far, with 14 deaths, and 67 recovery, according to figures compiled by the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

The Kenyan economy is in a crisis. The coronavirus pandemic is affecting everyone regardless of their age, ethnicity, social status or profession.

Fishers along the Kenyan coast, who export seafood to Europe and China, say their trade has almost come to a halt since the past few weeks. Only 20% of their catch is being sold as they lack a market now.

“The closure of the Chinese export market has really affected us fishermen,” Ahmed Abdi, a fisherman from Malindi told Anadolu Agency. “There are local sales but for Kenyans fish is fish… they don’t care about the type… they would pay the same for salmon as they would for a rare tuna.”

He said sales from the local market could not meet his living expenses.

“We cannot depend on the local market… our main market was China, all our prices are set by the Chinese market,” he said. “Kenyans can’t afford expensive lobsters but China used to buy them in tons.”

Abdi said that the dusk to dawn curfew imposed to curb the spread of the virus has also affected them.

“The water temperature drops at night and from my 23-year experience, I can tell you it is the best time to fish,” he said.

Like the fishers, even farmers are bearing the brunt of the outbreak.

Producers in the East African country say they are already late for the planting season, and have warned that the country might face starvation in the coming months.

“We have a triple tragedy: one we have not planted so we face hunger if the rainy planting season ends, two there is the coronavirus…three we have a locust invasion, this is like hell for us farmers, it is like the end of times,” George Wetaba, a farmer in western Kenya told Anadolu Agency.

Wetaba said Kenya will suffer from food shortage if the government did not step in to assist them.

He pointed out that it is around April that most farmers plant locally-consumed foods but the entree supply chain has been impacted.

“From the seed vendors, people who supply fertilizers, those who deal in pesticides, and the ones who operate tractors… they have all been locked down… we have nothing to do or plant, we want the government help as soon as possible,” Wetaba said.

Ambrose Ngetich, an officer from the Food and Agriculture organization in Laikipia, Kenya, warned that the second wave of locusts might impede COVID-19 fighting measures put in place.

He said the curfew was affecting their efforts against the swarms.

Meanwhile, last week Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta announced $47 million for a newly-formed emergency fund, bringing the total amount sent to all 47 counties in the country to $94 million.

Kenya has 270 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far, with 14 deaths, and 67 recovery, according to figures compiled by the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

Senator Wants China To Pay $100 Billion For Destroying The Kenyan Economy With Covid-19

Germany is currently trending after a newspaper sent a letter to China and in it demanding a compensation of $162 billion over the destruction caused by the virus.

The later put blame on China for not acting fast enough to curb the spread and lack of openness. The virus that originated in Wuhan, China has now clocked 2 million mark of infected people globally.

In Kenya, the virus has now infected 254 people and 14 already dead with numbers projected to accelerate in the coming weeks and months.

Currently, the country is in a partial lockdown with movements restricted outside designated areas. The country is still observing the curfew and many people are either now working from home or jobless.

Tourism industry has been dealt a big blow and nearly all hotels have been shut. It’s not just that, key economic pillars have been frozen and country crawling to a halt.

With many countries now blaming China for the mess caused by the coronavirus, Narok County Senator, Ledama Olekina now wants the Chinese government held responsible and billed for it. “This COVID19 is expensive someone must pay for it! Kenya has lost over $ 1.2b in tourism revenue, $2B in diaspora remittances, the NSE has tumbled. Our entire economy has shrunk and someone must pay for it! StateHouseKenya please send a bill of $100B to China to pay!” He said.

”Can’t sleep thinking about how life has changed, thousands of SMS’s asking for rent money, food money for the day and we continue entertaining this Chinese Mess? I agree with @realDonaldTrump the Chinese must pay! No gym just getting FAT! Hapana!” He continued.

  • Suburban NYC County Residents Sue WHO For Negligence And Conspiring With China To Coverup Covid-19’s Severity

Suburban NYC County Residents Sue WHO For Negligence And Conspiring With China To Coverup Covid-19’s Severity

(Reuters) – Residents of a suburban New York City county that was one of the earliest U.S. hot spots for the coronavirus sued the World Health Organization on Monday, accusing it of gross negligence in covering up and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a proposed class action, three residents of Westchester County accused the WHO of failing to quickly declare a pandemic, monitor China’s response to the original outbreak, provide treatment guidelines, advise members on how to respond including through travel restrictions, and coordinate a global response.

They also accused the WHO of conspiring with China’s government, which was not named as a defendant, to cover up COVID-19’s severity.

The WHO did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Its director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has defended the agency’s handling of the pandemic, saying the WHO had kept the world informed about the coronavirus. He has also called for global unity to fight the pandemic.

The lawsuit by Richard Kling and Steve Rotker, both of New Rochelle, and Gennaro Purchia, of Scarsdale, was filed in the federal court in White Plains, New York.

It seeks unspecified damages for what they called WHO’s “incalculable” harm to the roughly 756,000 adult residents in Westchester County who would make up the class.

Westchester is north of New York City, and last year had about 967,506 people, of whom roughly 78% were adults, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Chimène Keitner, an international law professor at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, said the lawsuit will likely be dismissed because U.S. law affords the WHO “functional immunity” from such cases.

She also said the complaint did not detail the alleged harm suffered by the individual plaintiffs, or show what legal duty the WHO owed to them.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

China itself also faces multiple private lawsuits in the United States seeking damages related to the pandemic.

New Rochelle became a coronavirus hot spot after a lawyer who attended the Young Israel of New Rochelle synagogue was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 2, the first person in the community to test positive.

Through April 19, a total of 247,512 people in New York state had tested positive for the coronavirus, including 24,306 in Westchester, according to the state’s health department.

The number of total hospitalizations for COVID-19 and the daily death toll have fallen in recent days, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Monday.

  • New Study Suggests That Testicles May Make Men More Vulnerable To Coronavirus

New Study Suggests That Testicles May Make Men More Vulnerable To Coronavirus

Current studies are now suggesting that COVID-19 may linger within males’ testicles, making the virus last longer and causing severe illness in men.

Scientists are tracking the recovery of 68 patients in Mumbai and India, to determine the gender disparity of COVID-19, which have caused severe illness in men, according to a preliminary report posted on the MedRixwebsite.

Dr. Aditi Shastri, an oncologist at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, and Dr. Jayanthi Shastri, a microbiologist at the Kasturba Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Mumbai, claims COVID-19 can attach itself to a specific protein that is produced in high levels in the testicles. In addition to the large amounts in the testicles, the protein, angiotensin, is also found in the lungs, the gastrointestinal tract, and the heart.

According to the study, the testicles are blocked off from the body’s immune system, which allows the virus to remain in the testicles longer than the rest of the body. Both Dr. Jyanthi and Dr. Aditi have said the recent findings may explain why women recover more quickly than men.

The average amount of time for female patients to recover from the disease is four days, while men’s recovery time on average is two days longer, according to the report posted on MedRix.

” These observations demonstrate that male subjects have delayed viral clearance,” the preliminary report said, adding that the testicles may be serving as “reservoirs” for the virus.

The study offers some insight into reports from New York, South Korea, and Italy that men are dying at a higher rate due to the virus, according to the NY Post.

Other reports suggest that men are more acceptable to contracting the virus because they are more likely to smoke, have high blood pressure, or suffer coronary artery disease.

  • Facebook Will Now Help You Identify Covid-19 Hotspots Early

Facebook Will Now Help You Identify Covid-19 Hotspots Early

Most surveys on Facebook are pointless. This one might end up saving lives.

Facebook has partnered with researchers at Carnegie Mellon University to build a map meant to track symptoms and potentially predict coronavirus hot spots. Mark Zuckerberg announced the effort in a Washington Post op-ed, writing “We’re hopeful that this will help governments and public health officials around the world who might not otherwise have this kind of precise data to make decisions in the weeks and months ahead.”

Here’s how it works. Facebook has been showing a survey to users within the social network. Users can take this survey if they want to — it’s entirely voluntary. They’ll answer questions about whether they’re experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, such as cough or fever.

That data then gets sent to the research team at Carnegie Mellon (not Facebook), which uses it to create population models of people experiencing symptoms. The idea is that symptoms are the “precursor” to hospital visits, so an uptick in symptoms in a particular area could help officials decide where to send health resources.

“The survey responses combined with other data such as medical claims and medical testing, will enable the CMU team to generate estimates of disease activity that are more reflective of reality than what is now available from positive coronavirus tests alone,” an announcement of the project from Carnegie Mellon reads.

The project has resulted in a heat map of sorts, showing the percentage of the population, broken down by county, that’s self-reporting coronavirus symptoms.

The heatmap of symptoms in the U.S. shows "hotspots."
The heatmap of symptoms in the U.S. shows “hotspots.”

Researchers are encouraged by the results. After its initial survey of 1 million people, symptom reports “correlate” with testing data. The fact that the number of self-reported symptoms are proportional to official test numbers is what makes the researchers think the survey is accurate and useful. The University of Maryland is also partnering with Facebook and CMU to expand the survey, and Google is contributing some data, too, through a survey served to its users.

Facebook has already launched a coronavirus information hub, and has a “data for good” portal that gives researchers access to population data. Previously, Facebook refuted reports that it was helping the government by providing location data to assist contact tracing.

This mantle was taken up by Google and Apple, who are collaborating on Bluetooth-based contact tracing programs. With the recent scrutiny of privacy in Big Tech, these companies have to walk the line between providing useful information and not infringing on people’s privacy.

  • Covid-19: Oil Is Trading Below Zero Across U.S. For The First Time In History

Covid-19: Oil Is Trading Below Zero Across U.S. For The First Time In History

(Reuters) – U.S. crude oil futures collapsed below $0 on Monday for the first time in history, amid a coronavirus-induced supply glut, ending the day at a stunning minus $37.63 a barrel as desperate traders paid to get rid of oil.

Brent crude, the international benchmark, also slumped, but that contract was nowhere near as weak because more storage is available worldwide.

While U.S. oil prices are trading in negative territory for the first time ever, it is unclear whether that will trickle down to consumers, who typically see lower oil prices translate into cheaper gasoline at the pump.

As billions of people around the globe stay home to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, physical demand for crude has dried up, creating a global supply glut.

Traders fled from the expiring May U.S. oil futures contract in a frenzy on Monday with no place to put the crude, but the June WTI contract settled at a much higher level of $20.43 a barrel.

“Normally this would be stimulative to the economy around the world,” said John Kilduff, partner at hedge fund Again Capital LLC in New York. “It normally would be good for an extra 2% on the GDP. You’re not seeing the savings because no one is spending on the fuels.”

The May U.S. WTI contract fell $55.90, or 306%, to settle at a discount of $37.63 a barrel after touching an all-time low of -$40.32 a barrel. Brent was down $2.51, or 9%, to settle at $25.57 a barrel.

“It’s like trying to explain something that is unprecedented and seemingly unreal,” said Louise Dickson, oil markets analyst at Rystad Energy. “Pricey shut-ins or even bankruptcies could now be cheaper for some operators, instead of paying tens of dollars to get rid of what they produce.”

Refiners are processing much less crude than normal, so hundreds of millions of barrels have gushed into storage facilities worldwide. Traders have hired vessels just to anchor them and fill them with the excess oil. A record 160 million barrels is sitting in tankers around the world.

U.S. crude stockpiles at Cushing rose 9% in the week to April 17, totaling around 61 million barrels, market analysts said, citing a Monday report from Genscape.

The spread between May and June at one point widened to $60.76, the widest in history for the two nearest monthly contracts.

Investors bailed out of the May contract ahead of expiry later on Monday because of lack of demand for the actual oil. When a futures contract expires, traders must decide whether to take delivery of the oil or roll their positions into another futures contract for a later month.

Usually this process is relatively uncomplicated, but this time there are very few counterparties that will buy from investors and take delivery of the oil. Storage is filling quickly at Cushing in Oklahoma, which is where the crude is delivered. [EIA/S]

“The storage is too full for speculators to buy this contract, and the refiners are running at low levels because we haven’t lifted stay-at-home orders in most states,” said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Price Futures Group in Chicago. “There’s not a lot of hope that things are going to change in 24 hours.”

Prices have been pressured for weeks with the coronavirus outbreak hammering demand while Saudi Arabia and Russia fought a price war and pumped more. The two sides agreed more than a week ago to cut supply by 9.7 million barrels per day (bpd), but that will not quickly reduce the global glut.

Saudi Arabia is considering applying oil cuts as soon as possible, rather than starting from May, a Wall Street Journal reporter said on Twitter, citing sources.

Brent oil prices have collapsed around 60% since the start of the year, while U.S. crude futures have fallen around 130% to levels well below break-even costs necessary for many shale drillers. This has led to drilling halts and drastic spending cuts.

MORE DATA SPARKS GLOBAL ECONOMIC CONCERNS

Weak global economic data also pressured prices. The German economy is in severe recession and recovery is unlikely to be quick as coronavirus-related restrictions could stay in place for an extended period, the Bundesbank said.

Japanese exports declined the most in nearly four years in March as U.S.-bound shipments, including cars, fell at their fastest rate since 2011.

U.S. oilfield services giant Halliburton Co on Monday reported a $1 billion first-quarter loss on charges and outlined the largest budget cut yet among top energy companies.

  • God, Not Masks: Magufuli’s Tanzania Is An Outlier On Covid-19 Response

God, Not Masks: Magufuli’s Tanzania Is An Outlier On Covid-19 Response

Tanzanian President John Magufuli has called on citizens to turn to God and to keep the economy turning, but as coronavirus cases creep up, calls are rising for the country to take stronger action.

While countries across Africa have imposed curfews, partial and full lockdowns, Tanzania has resisted such measures. Schools and universities have been shut but markets, bus stops and shops bustle as usual.

Magufuli, who called for three days of prayer from last Friday to fight the virus, is one of a handful of world leaders still brushing off the seriousness of the disease.

“This is time to build our faith and continue praying to God and not depending on facemasks. Don’t stop going to churches and mosques for prayers. I’m sure this is just a change of wind and it will go like others have gone,” Magufuli said at a church in Dodoma last month.

He reiterated his message on Good Friday, last week, saying God would protect Tanzanians from the virus.

    /images/content/afp_magufuli_says_the_coronavirus_pandemic_will_go_like_others_h.jpg

Tanzania recorded its first case of coronavirus on March 16 — and in the past week numbers have leapt from 32 to 147, with five deaths.

African countries have lagged behind the global curve, and many took fast and strict measures to curb movement, however cases are rising across the continent.

“I am not happy about the lack of seriousness by the government, lack of transparency on the data of cases and deaths, and state of denial the president has on the pandemic,” an opposition MP, Zitto Kabwe, who is also the leader of the ACT Wazalendo party, told AFP.

    ‘Continue producing’

Kabwe has proposed a partial lockdown of Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza and the capital Dodoma, and also a total lockdown of the tourist hotspot and semi-autonomous island, Zanzibar.

However, Magufuli has encouraged Tanzanians to continue working as usual, while encouraging them to avoid “unnecessary gatherings”.

“Let us continue working hard to build our nation. Coronavirus is not and should not be a reason for us not working. Farmers should utilise the ongoing rains effectively, industrial owners should continue producing and I don’t expect any development project to stop,” he said.

“Coronavirus should not be a reason to destroy our economy at all.”

The country’s economy has already been hard hit as tourists who flock to see its wildlife and beaches, have stopped coming. Tourism is the country’s top foreign-exchange earner.

On the streets of the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, citizens say they fear the virus and are doing what they can to avoid it while continuing to make ends meet.

“What I normally do is to ensure my passenger washes their hands before getting on the motorcycle. The challenge is that I have only one helmet for passengers, who share it,” said Hemedi Masoud, a motorcycle taxi operator.

He and other so-called “boda-boda” drivers park their bikes in a crowded area thronged by petty traders and pedestrians.

“I really fear coronavirus disease and it is risky here but there is no way I can avoid coming. My family needs something to eat and this is where I earn my daily bread,” said Masoud.

The government has banned buses from taking more passengers than the number of seats they contain, but this has only created bigger crowds during rush hour.

Like many poor people across the continent — even in countries which are trying to impose lockdowns — staying at home would be a grim option for many Tanzanians.

“I don’t pray for lockdown in Tanzania because we may escape coronavirus and die from hunger at home. Life has to go on and God will protect us,” said Anna John, a food vendor in the city.

Miriam John, who sells shoes, said some of her customers did not want to wash their hands but she has “no option because I need their money.”

But opposition leaders say the country needs to take more action to avoid potential disaster.

“No lockdown because he (Magufuli) wants to save the economy and his flagship infrastructure projects. The lives of our people cannot be repaired but the economy can! Lockdown or get locked out!” the chairman of the opposition party Chadema, Freeman Mbowe, posted on Twitter on Saturday.

Some experts have questioned the approach of lockdowns in Africa, where millions of urban poor live hand to mouth, but instead call for solutions such as mass testing or government support to the vulnerable.

Neighbouring Burundi has also allowed life to proceed as normal. Both countries have presidential elections this year, Burundi in May and Tanzania in October.

Covid-19: Arsenal Slashes Squad’s Pay By 12.5 Per Cent

Arsenal have announced that they have agreed a 12.5% pay cut with their first team squad, coaching staff and head coach Mikel Arteta.

Confirmation of the agreement, will offer significant clarity to Arsenal as they plan their response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen football postponed for over a month with a return unlikely before June at the earliest.

We understand that the overwhelming majority of the first team squad have agreed to the pay cut but not all of the squad. For those that have not the offer will remain on the table before the club undertake any individual negotiation.

A statement from Arsenal said: “We are pleased to announce that we have reached a voluntary agreement with our first-team players, head coach and core coaching staff to help support the club at this critical time.

“The move follows positive and constructive discussions. In these conversations there has been a clear appreciation of the gravity of the current situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and a strong desire for players and staff to show their backing for the Arsenal family.

    Pablo Mari.

“Reductions of total annual earnings by 12.5% will come into effect this month, with the contractual paperwork being completed in the coming days. If we meet specific targets in the seasons ahead, primarily linked to success on the pitch, the club will repay agreed amounts. We will be able to make those repayments as hitting these targets, which the players can directly influence, will mean our financial position will be stronger.

“The agreement is based on the assumption we will finish the season 2019/20 and receive the full broadcasting revenues. The resulting savings will help cover some of the financial risks we have this season in relation to our matchday and commercial income.

“We are proud and grateful to our players and staff for pulling together to support our club, our people and our community in these unprecedented times which are some of the most challenging we have faced in our history. “

Players will be able to claw back their wage packet through European qualification. Reaching the 2020/21 Europa League will see the cut reduced to 7% whilst qualifying for the Champions League will allow Arteta’s squad to recoup the entirety of their lost earnings.

Covid-19: Here’s The Letter A German Newspaper Wrote To China For Endangering The Whole World

    “They endanger the whole world”

Article By: JULIAN REICHELT published on

    Dear President Xi Jinping,

your embassy in Berlin sent me an open letter because we asked BILD whether China should pay for the gigantic economic damage that the Corona virus is currently causing worldwide.

Your message calls it “infamous” and accuses me of “fueling nationalism”.
Let me say a few things about this.

    1. You rule by surveillance. You would not be president without surveillance. You can monitor everything, every one of your citizens, but you refuse to monitor the high-risk animal markets in your country. Any critical newspaper or website will shut you down, but not the stalls selling bat soup. You not only monitor your people, you also endanger them – and with it the whole world.

    2. Monitoring leads to lack of freedom. Those who are not free are not creative. Those who are not innovative do not invent anything. That is why you have made your country the world champion in theft of intellectual property. China enriches itself with the inventions of others instead of inventing itself. The reason for this is that you don’t let the young people in your country think freely. The biggest Chinese export hit that nobody wanted, but that went around the world anyway, is Corona.

    3. When you, your government and your scientists had to know long ago that corona is transmitted from person to person, you left the world in the dark. Your top experts did not answer the phone, did not answer an email when western researchers wanted to know what was going on in Wuhan. You were too proud a nationalist to tell the truth that you felt was a national disgrace.

    4. The Washington Post reports that laboratories in Wuhan have researched corona viruses in bats without meeting the highest safety standards. Why aren’t your toxic labs as secure as your political prison? Do you want to explain this to grieving widows, daughters, sons, husbands, parents of Corona victims around the world?

    5. People are already whispering about you in your country. Your power is crumbling. You have created an opaque, opaque China that once stood for an inhuman surveillance state and now stands for the spread of a deadly plague. This is your political legacy.

Your message tells me that I would not do justice to the “traditional friendship of our peoples”. I assume you consider it a great “friendship” if you now generously send masks around the world. I do not call this friendship, but smiling imperialism. They want to strengthen China through an epidemic that came from China. I don’t think you can save your power personally. I believe that sooner or later Corona will mean your political end.

    Sincerely,

    Julian Reichelt

  • Germany Sends $162 Billion Bill To China For Coronavirus Damages

Germany Sends $162 Billion Bill To China For Coronavirus Damages

China has been facing major backlash from the European countries since the outbreak of coronavirus in Europe that has taken more than 1 lakh lives.

The Express UK reported that a reputed german newspaper has prepared a 130-billion-pound invoice that Beijing owes to Berlin due to the coronavirus pandemic and damages it’s costed.

European powers like Germany, France, the UK, and the US have all slammed China for many revelations that indicate China may have covered up the numbers and magnitude of the disease.

Germany’s largest tabloid newspaper, Bild, re-iterating the same, drew an itemized invoice for Euro 149 billion (130 billion pounds).

The list comprises of euro 7.2 billion for the German film Industry, a million euros an hour for German airline Lufthansa, Euro 27 billion charges for lost tourism revenue, euro 50 billion for German small businesses.

Under the title of “What China Owes Us”, Bild has calculated that this amounts to euro 1,784 (1,550 pounds) per person if Germany’s GDP falls by 4.2 percent.

China, however, responded to the invoice saying, ” It stirs up xenophobia and nationalism”.

Responding to China’s comments, Bild Editor-in-Chief Julian Reichelt said, “We asked in our newspaper Bild whether China should pay for the massive economic damage the coronavirus is inflicting worldwide. Xi Jinping, your government and your scientists had to know long ago that coronavirus is highly infectious, but you left the world in the dark about it. Your top experts didn’t respond when Western researchers asked to know what was going on in Wuhan. You were too proud and too nationalistic, to tell the truth, which you felt was a national disgrace.”

Before this US President Donald Trump had also raised serious questions on China’s role in the spread of the outbreak across the globe. He had accused China of underplaying the numbers and keeping other countries in dark about the reality of coronavirus.

  • Gospel Singer Eko Dydda Forcefully Quarantined After Trying To Save His Wife’s Life

Gospel Singer Eko Dydda Forcefully Quarantined After Trying To Save His Wife’s Life

My name is Sylvia Dydda. I have been unwell since January. I have high blood pressure and a high heart pulse that has led to facial palsy and other complications that have affected my mobility. I am not able to walk properly. I am taking BP meds and neuro care for the nerves. On Saturday, my medicines ran out and my husband, Eko Dydda, father to our two amazing kids decided to go buy them. He went to a pharmacy near our neighborhood, in the late afternoon, but he couldn’t find the medication. He then decided to drive to Nairobi CBD where he found and bought the medication. On his way home, he got a puncture at around 6:30pm and by the time he had fixed it, it was about 6:50pm. He continued with the journey home and on reaching Ngong Road, near Coptic Hospital, he found a police road block at around 7:10pm. He was stopped and arrested. The police had commissioned a breakdown truck and every car that violated the curfew was being towed to Kilimani Police Station. The car owner was then put in a police vehicle and driven to the Police Station.

On reaching the Police Station, Eko was booked in the cells. My medicine was left inside the car. Early Sunday morning, my neighbor took me to the Police Station because I could not walk properly. On arrival, the officer manning the Occurrence Book asked if l had money to pay bail for my husband, following which he would be required to appear at Milimani Court on Monday. I think I asked too many questions, as l pleaded his case, because they eventually told me to get out of the Police Station and only return when I had the money. I went outside for a bit and then went back in to ask if I could pay via m-pesa. The officer replied, “toka hapa, enda leta cash” (Get out and go come with cash). I was secretly recording our conversation.

I left again to go and withdraw Ksh10,000, then returned and gave the officer the requested bail of Ksh5,000. I wasn’t aware that he had noticed I had recorded him, so he told me, “Leta pesa ndio nikuandikie receipt” (Give me the money so I can give you a receipt). I gave him the Ksh5,000 cash and he started opening drawers, so I thought he was looking for a receipt book. He took out a brown envelope, put the money inside and told me, “Enda nje” (Go outside), then he chased me out of his office.

After waiting for an hour, he brought Eko out from the cells, handed him the receipt and told him to go pay the towing charges to the breakdown vehicle operators, since it was they who had his car keys. We found the breakdown vehicle people behind the toilets. I found that weird. I told them l would only pay them if l got a receipt. They referred me to a female police officer who came, picked the Ksh5,000 cash and then took me to a shop inside the police station and gave me a receipt, after I requested it.

I asked her for the car keys and she told me that they were with the officer to whom l had paid the cash bail and who had lied to me that the breakdown vehicle guys had them. Eko went to get the keys and as I was waiting for him, I heard one of the officers saying, “Hii mama imetu record hajui tuna weza poteza hii mutu yake.” (This woman recorded us and she doesn’t know we can make her man disappear.) We got into our car and drove off.

On our way home, Eko received two phone calls asking us to go back and collect the car. Eko told the caller he’d already picked the car. Then they asked him about the receipt for the bail and Eko told them he had collected the receipt as well. That was around 9:30am. The caller’s phone number was 0721254408 and his name, according to m-pesa, is James Samira. We arrived home and Eko showered and slept. The police, however, kept calling. We ignored their calls. Eko received calls from four different numbers calling from Kilimani, one of them from a female officer. She told Eko that someone who was in the cells with him had died and he should go back to record a statement. They gave him a number (0756479296) to call when he arrived. While on the call, we overheard someone say, “Hii mtu pekee ndio umepea receipt, hii ni shida.” (You issued a receipt to one person, this is problematic).

We arrived back at the station at around 12:30pm. Eko was re-arrested and they took back the receipts they had given us but, luckily, l had taken pictures. The officer who had issued us with the bail told us to take back our money because the bail had been cancelled by the boss. Out of all the people who had been arrested that evening, we were the only ones who had insisted on being issued with a receipt.

Eko had left me outside the Police Station and when l went inside to follow up on what was going on, l was told that since I had recorded them, they were going to teach my husband a lesson. “This is Eko Dydda, the President gave artists Ksh100 million, he will vomit this money”, one officer told me. The OCS came and ordered his officers to take Eko to “that place.” I didn’t know where “that place” was but, later in the day, Eko called and informed me that he had been taken to the quarantine center at KMTC. He told me there were about 200 people there. He was given a blanket and a bed. Up until now, no tests have been taken and he was told the tests would be done on the day they were supposed to get discharged.

l went to KMTC Mbagathi, where l met the officers who had taken Eko there. They told me, “Eko paid us Ksh10,000 and insisted on a receipt. Now he will pay the government Ksh28,000.” They went on to say, “Where do you think our money will come from? It comes from the citizens. I will teach him a lesson. The police officer in Kilimani stopped about 50 motorists on Saturday night but only your husband is giving us problems. If you share the video, we will come, arrest you with your children and take you to quarantine.”

Editor’s Note: I have spoken to Eko. Here is his story what’s happening at KMTC Mbagathi. When we arrived, we were told this is prison, it’s not quarantine and we are prisoners. We weren’t tested during arrest and we shared the cell in Kilimani Police Station with other people. At the quarantine centre, people arrested all over are in the same place. The only time you get out of the room is to go pick food but people here aren’t observing rules. They’re bitter, because no tests were taken and they feel they might get infected with Coronavirus. The quarantine is like a dormitory but with individual cubicles, we are sharing toilets and bathrooms. We have been told we shall be tested after 14 days, and if one or two people are found to be positive, all of us shall be held in quarantine for another 14 days. Most of the people here, are from the ghetto, those who couldn’t afford to bribe police, and l don’t think they will afford to pay the quarantine charges. It seems the government is trying to justify spending the Coronavirus budget on forced quarantines.

FYI: Police aren’t only targeting motorists. Police are doing swoops in low-income areas and arresting people for simply walking around. My friend was extorted out of Ksh10,000 at Buru Buru Police Station, to get his younger brother and his friend released. The police arrested them while they were standing outside their house chilling. They were given an option to pay the bribe, or be taken to quarantine at their own cost. Kenya isn’t yet on lockdown but #KenyaPoliceForce and their bosses at Police Headquarters have found a way to make quick money. The threat of quarantine is forcing people to bribe. What will happen to those who can’t afford to pay quarantine fees, will they be sent to prison?
