Russia Fines Google More Money Than There Is In Entire World

A Russian court has fined Google two undecillion roubles – a two followed by 36 zeroes – for restricting Russian state media channels on YouTube.

In dollar terms that means the tech giant has been told to pay $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

Despite being one of the world’s wealthiest companies, that is considerably more than the $2 trillion Google is worth.

In fact, it is far greater than the world’s total GDP, which is estimated by the International Monetary Fund to be $110 trillion.

The fine has reached such a gargantuan level because – state news agency Tass says – it doubles every day it is not paid.

According to Tass, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov admitted he “cannot even pronounce this number” but urged “Google management to pay attention.”

    A fine mess

Russia media outlet RBC reports the fine on Google relates to the restriction of content of 17 Russian media channels on YouTube.

While this started in 2020, it escalated after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years later.

That saw most Western companies pull out of Russia, with doing business there also tightly restricted by sanctions.

Russian media outlets were also banned in Europe – prompting retaliatory measures from Moscow.

This development is the latest escalation between Russia and the US tech giant.

In May, 2021, Russia’s media regulator Roskomnadzor accused Google of restricting YouTube access to Russian media outlets, including RT and Sputnik, and supporting “illegal protest activity”.

Then, in July, 2022, Russia fined Google 21.1bn rouble (£301m) for failing to restrict access to what it called “prohibited” material about the war in Ukraine and other content.

There is virtually no press freedom in Russia, with independent news outlets and freedom of expression severely curtailed.

Music Titan Quincy Jones, Dies At 91

Quincy Jones, the multi-talented music titan whose vast legacy ranged from producing Michael Jackson’s historic “Thriller” album to writing prize-winning film and television scores and collaborating with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and hundreds of other recording artists, has died at 91.

Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, says he died Sunday night at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Jones rose from running with gangs on the South Side of Chicago to the very heights of show business, becoming one of the first Black executives to thrive in Hollywood and amassing an extraordinary musical catalog that includes some of the richest moments of American rhythm and song. For years, it was unlikely to find a music lover who did not own at least one record with his name on it, or a leader in the entertainment industry and beyond who did not have some connection to him.

Jones kept company with presidents and foreign leaders, movie stars and musicians, philanthropists and business leaders. He toured with Count Basie and Lionel Hampton, arranged records for Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, composed the soundtracks for “Roots” and “In the Heat of the Night,” organized President Bill Clinton’s first inaugural celebration and oversaw the all-star recording of “We Are the World,” the 1985 charity record for famine relief in Africa.

Lionel Richie, who co-wrote “We Are the World” and was among the featured singers, would call Jones “the master orchestrator.”

  • Israel Hits Iran Military Targets In Retaliation For Tehran’s Attacks

Israel Hits Iran Military Targets In Retaliation For Tehran’s Attacks

    • Iranian media reported multiple explosions over several hours in the capital and nearby military bases.
    • Tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.

(Reuters)—Israel said it struck military sites in Iran early on Saturday in retaliation for Tehran’s attacks on Israel earlier this month, the latest attack in the escalating conflict between the heavily armed rivals.

Iranian media reported multiple explosions over several hours in the capital and at nearby military bases, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Before dawn, Israel’s public broadcaster said three waves of strikes had been completed and that the operation was over.

The Middle East has been on edge awaiting Israel’s retaliation for a ballistic-missile barrage carried out by Iran on October 1, in which around 200 missiles were fired at Israel and one person was killed in the West Bank.

Tensions between arch rivals Israel and Iran have escalated since Hamas, the Iran-backed Palestinian militant group based in Gaza, attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Hamas has been supported by Lebanon-based Hezbollah militants, also backed by Iran.

Fears that Iran and the US would be drawn into a regional war have risen with Israel’s intensifying assault on Hezbollah since last month, including airstrikes on the Lebanese capital Beirut and a ground operation, as well as its year-old conflict in the Gaza Strip.

“In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel – right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran,” Israel’s military said in a statement.

The military said later that it had completed its “targeted” attacks against military targets in Iran, adding that its planes had safely returned home.

Israel has the right and duty to respond to attacks from Tehran and its proxies, which have included missile strikes launched from Iranian soil, the military said.

Targets did not include energy infrastructure or nuclear facilities, a US official said.

US President Joe Biden had warned that Washington, Israel’s main backer and supplier of arms, would not support a strike on Tehran’s nuclear sites and has said Israel should consider alternatives to attacking Iran’s oil fields.

Iranian authorities have repeatedly warned Israel against any attack.

“Iran reserves the right to respond to any aggression, and there is no doubt that Israel will face a proportional reaction for any action it takes,” the semi-official Tasnim news agency said on Saturday, quoting sources.

Iranian state TV quoted a military spokesman as saying the explosions heard in Tehran were linked “to air defense systems reacting to efforts by the Zionist regime (Israel) to attack three locations outside the city of Tehran.”

Videos carried by Iranian media showed air defences continuously firing at apparently incoming projectiles in central Tehran, without saying which sites were coming under attack.

The semi-official Iranian Fars news agency said several military bases in the west and southwest of Tehran had also been targeted.

Tasnim said Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps bases that were attacked were not damaged.

A spokesperson for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization said flights on all routes were cancelled until further notice, state news agency IRNA reported.

Neighbouring Iraq also suspended flights in all of its airports until further notice, its state news agency said.

Israel targeted some military sites in Syria’s central and southern parts with airstrikes early on Saturday, Syrian state news agency SANA reported. Israel has not confirmed striking Syria.

Israel said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and other security officials were closely following the operation at the military’s command and control centre in Tel Aviv.

Gallant spoke to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin shortly after Israel’s response began, a U.S. defence official said.

The United States was notified by Israel ahead of its strikes on targets in Iran but was not involved in the operation, another US official told Reuters.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in the Middle East for another attempt to broker a peace deal, said on Wednesday Israel’s retaliation should not lead to greater escalation.

Even as it sought to convince Israel to calibrate its strikes, the United States moved to reassure its closest ally in the Middle East that it would aid in its defence should Tehran decide to stage a counter-attack.

This included Biden’s decision to move the U.S. military’s THAAD anti-missile defences to Israel, along with about 100 U.S. soldiers to operate them.

  • ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan Faces Sexual Misconduct Accusations

ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan Faces Sexual Misconduct Accusations

(AP) — As the International Criminal Court’s top prosecutor sought war crimes charges this year against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over actions in Gaza, he was engulfed in a very different personal crisis playing out behind the scenes.

Karim Khan faced accusations that he tried for more than a year to coerce a female aide into a sexual relationship and groped her against her will. He’s categorically denied the allegations, saying there was “no truth to suggestions of misconduct.” Court officials have said they may have been made as part of an Israeli intelligence smear campaign.

Two co-workers in whom the woman confided at the ICC’s headquarters at The Hague reported the alleged misconduct in early May to the court’s independent watchdog, which says it interviewed the woman and ended its inquiry after five days when she opted against filing a formal complaint. Khan himself was never questioned.

But the matter may not be over.

While the woman declined to comment to The Associated Press, people close to her say her initial reluctance was driven by distrust of the in-house watchdog and she has asked the body of member-states that oversees the ICC to launch an external probe. An ICC official with knowledge of the matter who spoke to AP on condition of anonymity confirmed that the request remains under consideration.

Those efforts were applauded by those close to the woman, who still works at the court.

“This wasn’t a one-time advance or an arm around the shoulder that could be subject to misinterpretation,” one of the people told AP, speaking on condition of anonymity to shield the woman’s identity. “It was a full-on, repeated pattern of conduct that was carried out over a long period of time.”

While the court’s watchdog could not determine wrongdoing, it nonetheless urged Khan in a memo to minimize contact with the woman to protect the rights of all involved and safeguard the court’s integrity.

Within days of the watchdog’s shelving of the case, the court’s work went on. Khan on May 20 sought arrest warrants against Netanyahu, his defense minister and three Hamas leaders on war crimes charges. A three-judge panel is now weighing that request.

U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration said it was blindsided by the move, with the president calling the prosecution “outrageous” for implying an equivalence between Israel and Hamas.

In announcing the charges, Khan hinted that outside forces were waging a campaign to derail his investigation.

“I insist that all attempts to impede, intimidate or improperly influence the officials of this court must cease immediately,” Khan said, adding he wouldn’t hesitate to use his authority to investigate anyone suspected of obstructing justice.

    The allegations

AP pieced together details of the accusations through whistleblower documents shared with the court’s independent watchdog and interviews with eight ICC officials and individuals close to the woman. All spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the allegations or fear of retaliation.

Among the allegations told to AP is that Khan noticed the woman working at another department at ICC and moved her into his office, a transfer that included a pay bump. Their time together allegedly increased after a private dinner in London where Khan took the woman’s hand and complained about his marriage. She became a presence on official trips and meetings with dignitaries.

During one such trip, Khan allegedly asked the woman to rest with him on a hotel bed and then “sexually touched her,” according to the documents. Later, he came to her room at 3 a.m. and knocked on the door for 10 minutes.

Other allegedly nonconsensual behavior cited in the documents included locking the door of his office and sticking his hand in her pocket. He also allegedly asked her on several occasions to go on a vacation together.

Upon returning to ICC’s headquarters after one trip, she tearfully complained to two co-workers about Khan’s behavior and the anguish she felt for not standing up to a boss she once admired.

Those co-workers were shocked because Khan always seemed to show exemplary behavior around women and has been outspoken against gender-based crimes. They also weighed the accusations against the backdrop of well-publicized attempts by intelligence agents from Israel and elsewhere to penetrate the court, which created a work environment plagued by intrigue and mistrust.

But in the wake of the #MeToo movement, no powerful man is above scrutiny, and the co-workers complied with court workplace guidelines that encouraged the reporting of misconduct by senior officials.

After months of inaction and whispered rumors of a brewing scandal, an anonymous account on X called @ICC_Leaks last week began bringing some of the allegations to light.

Israel’s allies in the U.S. Congress have also seized on the would-be scandal. Sen. Lindsey Graham is seeking records about whether the misconduct accusations played any role in Khan’s decision in May to cancel an aide’s planned visit to Israel and move ahead with the war crimes charges.

“Another cloud — a moral one — hangs over prosecutor Khan’s abrupt decision to abandon engagement with Israel and seek arrest warrants,” the South Carolina Republican wrote in a letter to the court’s oversight authority.

Khan, who is 54 and married with two children, said in a statement there was “no truth” to the accusations, and that in 30 years of scandal-free investigative work he always has stood with victims of sexual harassment and abuse.

Khan added that he would be willing, if asked, to cooperate with any inquiry, saying it is essential that any accusations “are thoroughly listened to, examined and subjected to a proper process.”

Without naming any entity directly, he noted that both he and the court have been the target in recent months of “a wide range of attacks and threats,” some also aimed at his wife and family. Khan’s office declined to provide specifics because the incidents are under investigation.

    A growing list of enemies

Under Khan, the ICC has become more assertive in combating crimes against humanity, war crimes and related atrocities. Along the way, it has added to a growing list of enemies.

Last September, following the opening of a probe into Russian atrocities in Ukraine, the court suffered a debilitating cyberattack that left staff unable to work for weeks. It also hired an intern who was later criminally charged in the U.S. with being a Russian spy.

Israel has also been waging its own influence campaign ever since the ICC recognized Palestine as a member and in 2015 opened a preliminary investigation into what the court referred to as “the situation in the State of Palestine.”

London’s The Guardian newspaper and several Israeli news outlets reported this summer that Israel’s intelligence agencies for the past decade have allegedly targeted senior ICC staff, including putting Khan’s predecessor under surveillance and showing up at her house with envelopes stuffed with cash to discredit her.

Netanyahu himself, in the days leading up to Khan’s announcement of war crimes charges, called on the world’s democracies “ to use all the means at their disposal ” to block the court from what he called an “outrage of historic proportions.”

The Israeli foreign ministry referred AP’s inquiries about the case to the Prime Minister’s office, which did not respond. The U.S. State Department declined to discuss the matter but said in a statement that it “takes any allegation of sexual harassment seriously, and we would expect the court to do the same.”

The Dutch foreign ministry and several lawmakers in the Netherlands have called for an investigation into whether the Israeli embassy has been conducting covert activities against the ICC.

    Who is Khan?

Khan, a British international lawyer, had a long history defending some of the world’s most ruthless strongmen – including former Liberian President Charles Taylor and the son of the late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi — before being elected in 2021 in a secret ballot to become chief prosecutor.

The Rome Statute that established the court took effect in 2002, with a mandate to prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide — but only when domestic courts fail to initiate their own investigations. Neither the U.S., Israel nor Russia are among the 124 member nations recognizing the court’s authority, although their citizens can be charged with crimes committed in countries that are ICC members.

Still, Washington welcomed Khan’s election, especially after he moved to “deprioritize” an investigation opened by his predecessor into abuses by U.S. military personnel in Afghanistan.

Khan also broadened the court’s focus, bringing criminal charges for the first time against individuals outside Africa. He charged Russian President Vladimir Putin for kidnapping children in Ukraine and opened an investigation into Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro for his crackdown on protesters.

“He is by far the most professional jurist the court has had in its short history,” said Kenneth Roth, former executive director of Human Rights Watch. “He’s articulate, sophisticated with the media and has extensive courtroom experience working with the highest standards of evidence.”

But Khan’s reputation with the U.S. came crashing down when he announced he was seeking the arrest of Netanyahu and Israel’s defense minister for war crimes including starvation of civilians.

To insulate himself from attacks that he held an anti-Israel bias, Khan, a practicing Muslim whose father migrated to the UK from Pakistan, shared the evidence with a panel of experts including British human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, wife of actor George Clooney.

    ‘Extreme fear’ to report misconduct

Although the 900-employee ICC has long had a “zero-tolerance” policy on sexual harassment, an outside review of the court’s inner-workings in 2020 found an unacceptable level of predatory behavior by male bosses, a lack of women in senior positions, and inadequate mechanisms for dealing with complaints and protecting whistleblowers.

“There is a general reluctance, if not extreme fear, among many staff to report any alleged act of misconduct or misbehavior” by a senior official, the review concluded. “The perception is that they are all immune.”

Although the ICC’s policies have been updated since the report, there’s no explicit ban on romantic relationships like there is in many American workplaces. And while elected officials such as Khan are expected to show “high moral character,” there’s no definition of “serious misconduct” that would warrant removal.

International organizations, like the ICC, are some of the last places where men in positions of power treat the organization like their “playgrounds,” said Sarah Martin, a gender equality expert who has consulted for several United Nations agencies.

“There are so many complaints that don’t even get investigated because there’s a perception that senior officials protect each other,” she said.

People close to Khan’s accuser say investigators from the court’s watchdog — known as the Independent Oversight Mechanism — showed up for an interview on a Sunday and asked for intimate details about her relationship with Khan as her child listened. Without any emotional support and wary of the process, she decided not to file a complaint at that moment.

In the weeks since, she’s decided to go up the chain of command, reaching out to the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, which oversees the court and has the ultimate say about Khan’s future.

Paivi Kaukoranta, a Finnish diplomat currently serving as president of that body, did not comment specifically when asked if it had initiated a new investigation.

But in a statement she asked people to respect the integrity and confidentiality of the process, “including any further possible steps as necessary.”

  • Skilled Foreign Workers Face Discrimination In Germany, Study Finds

Skilled Foreign Workers Face Discrimination In Germany, Study Finds

Skilled foreign workers face alarming levels of discrimination in Germany, a new report revealed on Friday.

According to a survey by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), approximately 56% of skilled immigrant workers reported facing prejudice and discrimination in at least one area of life. Housing and employment emerged as particularly problematic sectors.

The study found that 40% of respondents felt discriminated against when seeking accommodation, while 21% perceived disadvantages in the workplace. Discrimination was also reported in everyday situations such as on public transportation or in shops and restaurants.

Around 20% of immigrant professionals said they felt disadvantaged when dealing with the public administration or authorities. The study also revealed that 93% of respondents believed their ethnic background was the primary reason for the discrimination they faced.

IAB experts warned that these experiences can significantly hinder the economic and social integration of skilled immigrant professionals, potentially discouraging them from choosing Germany as a long-term destination.

The EU’s largest economy is currently grappling with an ageing population, and substantial shortage of qualified workers in the information technology, renewable energy, construction and medical sectors. The government has recently reformed the Skilled Immigration Act (FEG) to attract more qualified specialists, professionals from abroad to meet the needs of the labor market.

  • Musk in regular contact with Russian president since 2022: Report

Musk in regular contact with Russian president since 2022: Report

American tech billionaire Elon Musk has been in regular contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin since late 2022, a report said Thursday.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the talks cover personal matters, business interests and geopolitical tensions.

The discussions were reportedly confirmed by multiple current and former officials from the US, Europe and Russia.

The report, citing two people familiar with the matter, said that at one point, Putin requested that Musk refrain from activating his Starlink satellite internet service over Taiwan as a favor to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

This year, Musk has become a key supporter of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s election campaign and could potentially play a role in a future Trump administration if he is reelected.

While the US and its allies have worked to isolate Putin in recent years, Musk’s ongoing dialogue with the Russian leader could signal a possible re-engagement, aligning with Trump’s stated interest in negotiating solutions on critical issues like the Ukraine war, said the report.

The Journal said the contacts are also raising potential national security concerns among some in the Biden administration, given Putin’s position as a primary US adversary.

The SpaceX owner has also established strong business connections with US military and intelligence agencies, which gives him visibility into some of the US’s most sensitive space programs, said the report.

Musk’s contacts with the Kremlin seem to be a closely guarded secret within the government, with several White House officials stating they were unaware of them.

According to the report, Musk did not respond to requests for comment.

  • Menendez Brothers’ Family To Push For Their Release As Prosecutors Review 1989 Case

Menendez Brothers’ Family To Push For Their Release As Prosecutors Review 1989 Case

(AP) — The extended family of Erik and Lyle Menendez will advocate for the brothers’ release from prison during a news conference set for Wednesday in downtown Los Angeles as prosecutors review new evidence to determine whether they should be serving life sentences for killing their parents.

Billed as “a powerful show of unity” by more than a dozen family members — including the brothers’ aunt — who are traveling across the country to Los Angeles, the news conference will take place less than two weeks after LA County District Attorney George Gascón announced his office was looking at the brothers’ case again.

Erik Menendez, now 53, and his 56-year-old brother, Lyle Menendez, are currently incarcerated in state prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of killing their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion more than 35 years ago.

Lyle Menendez, who was then 21, and Erik Menendez, then 18, admitted they fatally shot-gunned their entertainment executive father, Jose Menendez, and their mother, Kitty Menendez, in 1989 but said they feared their parents were about to kill them to prevent the disclosure of the father’s long-term sexual molestation of Erik.

The extended family’s attorney Bryan Freedman previously said they strongly support the brothers’ release. Comedian Rosie O’Donnellalso plans to join the family on Wednesday.

“She wishes nothing more than for them to be released,” Freedman said earlier this month of Joan VanderMolen, Kitty Menendez’s sister and the brothers’ aunt.

Earlier this month, Gascón said there is no question the brothers committed the 1989 murders, but his office will be reviewing new evidence and will make a decision on whether a resentencing is warranted in the notorious case that captured national attention.

The brothers’ attorneys said the family believed from the beginning they should have been charged with manslaughter rather than murder. Manslaughter was not an option for the jury during the second trial that ultimately led to the brothers’ murder conviction, attorney Mark Geragos previously said.

The case has gained new traction in recent weeks after Netflix began streaming the true-crime drama “ Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

The new evidence includes a letter written by Erik Menendez that his attorneys say corroborates the allegations that he was sexually abused by his father. A hearing was scheduled for Nov. 29.

Prosecutors at the time contended there was no evidence of any molestation. They said the sons were after their parents’ multimillion-dollar estate.

But the brothers have said they killed their parents out of self-defense after enduring a lifetime of physical, emotional and sexual abuse from them. Their attorneys argue that because of society’s changing views on sexual abuse, that the brothers may not have been convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole today.

Jurors in 1996 rejected a death sentence in favor of life without parole.

  • Ferguson To Leave Man Utd Ambassador Role

Ferguson To Leave Man Utd Ambassador Role

Manchester United great Alex Ferguson will step down from his lucrative role as club ambassador at the end of the season, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the move has not been publicly announced.

Ferguson will be 83 in December and the person said the ending of his ambassadorship — which had been worth millions of dollars — was “amicable” and he would “always be welcome at Old Trafford.”

Ferguson, a regular at matches since he stepped down in 2013, will remain a non-executive director of the football club board.

It comes as part of a wider cost-cutting exercise at United under INEOS, which has had responsibility for football operations at the club since its founder Jim Ratcliffe completed the purchase of a minority stake earlier this year.

Last month United posted losses of £113.2 million ($148 million) for the year ending June 30, 2024 — their fifth straight year of losses.

But the club said they are compliant with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.

  • Elon Musk Pumps $75 Million Into Donald Trump’s Presidential Run

Elon Musk Pumps $75 Million Into Donald Trump’s Presidential Run

Reuters– Elon Musk gave around $75 million to his pro-Donald Trump spending group in the span of three months, federal disclosures showed on Tuesday, underscoring how the billionaire has become crucial to the Republican candidate’s efforts to win the Nov. 5 presidential election.

America PAC, which is focused on turning out voters in closely contested states that could decide the election, spent around $72 million of that in the July-September period, according to disclosures filed to the Federal Election Commission.

That is more than any other pro-Trump super PAC focused on turning out voters. The Trump campaign is broadly reliant on outside groups for canvassing voters, meaning the super PAC founded by Musk – the world’s richest man – plays an outsized role in the razor-thin election between Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris.

Musk, the CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla, was the sole donor to the group in that period.

Musk, who has said he has voted for Democratic presidential candidates in the past, has taken a sharp turn to the right this election. He endorsed Trump in July and appeared with him at a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month. Musk’s donations to America PAC propel him into the exclusive club of Republican mega donors, a list that also includes banking heir Timothy Mellon and casino billionaire Miriam Adelson.
However, Reuters reported earlier this month that Musk has secretly funded a conservative political group for years, well before his public embrace of Trump.

America PAC declined to comment on the Musk donations. Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

America PAC is focused on encouraging Americans who like Trump but don’t always vote to cast ballots this cycle, a high-risk, labor-intensive strategy by the Trump campaign.

The group, which started its work later in the election than other PACs, has encountered some problems with hiring and its contractors. Since July, it has fired two major contractors it has hired to knock on doors.

It has also struggled to hire door knockers in several battleground states in part because by the time the PAC became operational many other canvassing groups had already staffed up, a half-dozen sources briefed on the issues told Reuters.

The group had around $4 million left on hand by the end of September, the filings show.

Separate filings earlier on Tuesday showed that Miriam Adelson, the casino magnate, donated $95 million to another pro-Trump super PAC, Preserve America PAC, in the same period.

US Vice President Harris Calls Trump Presidency ‘Huge Risk For America’

In the US, Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris in a Pennsylvania rally called Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump “unstable and unhinged” for wanting “unchecked power.”

Harris addressed a rally in Pennsylvania’s Erie County on Monday, using a big screen to show clips of Trump’s calls to outlaw dissent.

“A second Trump term would be a huge risk for America. And dangerous. Donald Trump is increasingly unstable and unhinged. And he is out for unchecked power,” Harris claimed, as the crowd chanted her words against the rival candidate.

Explaining the consequences of having Trump in power, she emphasized measures a Trump presidency could take to undermine Americans’ quality of life, saying, “He wants to send the military after American citizens. He has worked to prevent women from making their own health care decisions.”

This week, Harris kicked off a series of rallies across the northern states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, a trio of states that are expected to be key indicators of election results.

“With just three weeks until Election Day, Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are leaving it all on the field — blanketing the battlegrounds with an aggressive campaign schedule,” according to an email from a Harris campaign official obtained by NBC.

  • Nigerian Airline CEO Faces New US Charge In $20M Fraud Case

Nigerian Airline CEO Faces New US Charge In $20M Fraud Case

US authorities charged the owner of Nigeria’s largest airline with obstruction of justice in a $20 million fraud case.

The charge updates an indictment from five years ago in which he and an alleged accomplice were charged with bank fraud and money laundering.

The US Department of Justice said Allen Onyema, founder and chief executive of Air Peace, faces the new charge of obstruction “for submitting false documents” to the US government. Onyema, 61, allegedly submitted the documents in a bid to end the investigation that led to the bank fraud and money laundering charges, the DOJ announced on Friday.

Onyema is charged alongside Air Peace’s finance chief, Ejiroghene Eghagha. The DOJ, in its 2019 bank fraud and money laundering indictment, alleged that both officials moved “more than $20 million” from Nigeria through US bank accounts in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of airplanes from a company allegedly based in the US state of Georgia.

The obstruction charges against the pair are for “additional crimes of fraud,” Ryan K. Buchanan, the US Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, said last week.

Air Peace, in a statement on Sunday, said both executives, who have not been arrested since the first indictment, “remain innocent and these are mere allegations.” The company said Onyema has “consistently cooperated” with the investigation process and is confident both executives will be “exonerated.”

Air Peace operates the largest volume of daily domestic flights in Nigeria. Onyema founded the airline in 2013. The company flies to and from Nigeria and some West African capital cities. It began direct flights between London’s Gatwick airport and Lagos in March. A previously active route between Lagos and Dubai has yet to resume following a two-year hiatus over visa-related disagreements between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.

    Know More

The DOJ formulated indictments against Onyema based on the businessman’s alleged activities dating back to 2010, the year he is said to have started frequent visits to Atlanta. He is said to have opened “several personal and business bank accounts” that received over $44.9 million between 2010 and 2018.

The original bank fraud and money laundering charges related to how Onyema allegedly used his accounts from 2016.

By presenting letters of credit supposedly needed to fund the purchase of five Boeing 737 passenger planes for Air Peace, Onyema and Eghagha allegedly caused banks to transfer more than $20 million into the CEO’s Atlanta-based bank accounts.

But a variety of documents used to support those letters of credit — including appraisals to prove that Air Peace was buying the planes from a Georgia-based business called Springfield Aviation Company — were fake, the DOJ claims.

Onyema owned Springfield Aviation, the company owned no aircraft, and the appraisals came from a company that did not exist, the DOJ said. He then “allegedly laundered over $16 million of the proceeds of the fraud by transferring it to other accounts,” according to the 2019 indictment.

The updated indictment this October comes from actions the DOJ says Onyema and Eghagha took after learning of the investigation leading up to the bank fraud indictment in November 2019.

In October of that year, the CEO directed his lawyers to present a Springfield Aviation contract backdated to 2016 to the US government, in a bid to unfreeze his accounts and “derail the investigation.” The document had actually been drawn-up in May 2019 by a Springfield manager and left undated, on the orders of the two accused Air Peace executives, the DOJ said.

  • New Lawsuits Accuse Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Of Sexual Assault Against 6 people, Including A 16-Year-Old Boy

New Lawsuits Accuse Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Of Sexual Assault Against 6 people, Including A 16-Year-Old Boy

(AP) — A new wave of lawsuits filed Monday accuses Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping women, sexually assaulting men and molesting a 16-year-old boy.

At least six lawsuits were filed against the hip-hop mogul in federal court in Manhattan. They were filed anonymously, two by women identified as Jane Does and four by men identified as John Does.

The accusers are part of what their lawyers say is a group of more than 100 alleged victims who are in the process of taking legal action against Combs in the wake of his sex trafficking arrestlast month.

One of the John Does, a man living in North Carolina, alleges that Combs fondled his genitals when he was 16 at one of the rapper’s famous white parties in Long Island’s Hamptons in 1998.

The man alleges that during a conversation about possibly breaking into the music industry, Combs abruptly ordered the then-teen to drop his pants.

According to the man’s lawsuit, Combs explained to him that it was a rite of passage to becoming a music star, at one point asking the then-teen: “Don’t you want to break into the business?”

The man said he complied out of fear, anxiety and power imbalance he felt with Combs, only realizing later that what had happened was sexual assault.

Until Monday’s lawsuit, Combs had only been accused in civil cases and his criminal indictment of sexual activity with adults.

Combs’ lawyers and other representatives did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. When the planned lawsuits were announced Oct. 1, a lawyer said Combs “cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a reckless media circus.”

Combs, 54, has pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges alleging he coerced and abused womenfor years with help from a network of associates and employees while silencing victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings.

Combs’ lawyers have been trying unsuccessfully to get the Bad Boy Records founder freed on bail. He has been held at a federal jail in Brooklyn since his Sept. 16 arrest.

Two judges have concluded that Combs would be a danger to the community if he is released from the Metropolitan Detention Center, a facility that has been plagued by violence and dysfunction for years. At a bail hearing three weeks ago, a judge rejected a $50 million bail package, including home detention and electronic monitoring, after concluding that Combs was a threat to tamper with witnesses and obstruct a continuing investigation.

On Friday, an appeals court judge denied Combs’ immediate release from jail while a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals weighs his bail request.

The other lawsuits filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan include allegations of rape, forced oral sex and drugging to incapacitate victims.

One of the Jane Does suing Combs alleges he raped her in a locked hotel room in 2004 after he invited her and a friend there for a party, gave them drinks and told them to snort cocaine.

The woman, a college freshman at the time, alleges Combs also forced her friend to perform oral sex on him and said he would have them both killed if they didn’t comply with his demands.

The other Jane Doe alleges Combs violently attacked and raped her in a bathroom in 2005 at a party for the late rapper Biggie Smalls’ music video, “One More Chance.”

According to the woman, Combs brought her into the bathroom to talk privately and then started kissing her unexpectedly. When she tried to pull away, she alleges, he slammed her head against the wall, causing her to fall to the floor. The woman said she tried to escape, but Combs hit her again and raped her.

Afterward, according to the woman, Combs nonchalantly adjusted his clothing and told her: “You better not tell anyone about this, or you will disappear.”

In another John Doe lawsuit, a man working as a security guard at Combs’ Hamptons white party in 2006 alleges the star gave him an alcoholic beverage that he came to believe was laced with a drug that made him feel extremely ill. The man alleges that Combs then pushed him into a van, held him down and sexually assaulted him.

In the other lawsuits filed Monday, Combs is accused of forcing a man to perform oral sex on him in the stockroom of Macy’s flagship store in Manhattan’s Herald Square in 2008 and sexually assaulting a man at a party in October 2021. The latter man, who suspects a drugged beverage left him unable to fight back, recalls multiple men assaulting him and distinctly recalls seeing Combs above him, naked, at one point during the assault, his lawsuit said.

‪Kanye West Sued For Allegedly Drugging, Sexually Assaulting Ex-Assistant At Diddy Studio Session‬

Controversial rapper Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) is being sued by a former assistant, who has accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her at a party. The incident happened at a studio session that Ye co-hosted by Diddy.

In a new complaint, Lauren Pisciotta who has worked with Ye as his assistant from 2021 to 2022, has accused West of sexually assaulting her.

In a new lawsuit filed on Oct 8 in Los Angeles County Court, the influencer has revealed horrifying inside details about Ye and Diddy’s party.

In the filing, Pisciotta alleges that years before she worked with the rapper, she was invited to a studio session in Santa Monica, California. At the party, she said, ”drinks were served to others in attendance, followed by an announcement that everybody had to drink if they wanted to stay.”

During the part, she allegedly accused the rapper of drugging her. In the complaint, she said that the drink that was served to her at the request of West was “laced with an unidentifiable drug,” and after a few small sips, she started disoriented.

“As plaintiff began to slip into an altered and heavily impaired state, she felt less in control of her body and speech, and that is where plaintiff’s memories of that night escape her,” the new complaint reads.

In the complaint, she further alleges that the next day she woke “feeling physically ill and confused”. She was not able to recall what happened to her after she had the drink.

Pisciotta found out about being physically abused by the rapper years later when she again met the rapper and he brought up the night they first met.

During the conversation, the rapper told Pisciotta that they “did kind of hook up a little one time,” referring to the part.

“Up until that very point, right before that very conversation, Plaintiff [Pisciotta] was unaware that she had been subjected to gender violence and sexual battery on that studio night by KANYE WEST a.k.a YE,” the document reads.

In a new complaint, she has mentioned Sean as the co-host of the event, without accusing the Grammy winner of any serious charges. Sean is currently behind the jail for sex trafficking and racketeering.

In June, Pisciotta sued the rapper for sexual harassment, breach of contract, and wrongful termination.

Ye has not reacted to this new complaint yet.

  • Brazil Has Closed Down Over 2000 Betting Sites, Citing A Gambling ‘Pandemic’ In The Country

Brazil Has Closed Down Over 2000 Betting Sites, Citing A Gambling ‘Pandemic’ In The Country

Brazilian authorities on Friday began closing down more than 2,000 betting sites, including those that sponsors popular football team Corinthians and other first division clubs, as part of a push to regulate online gambling.

Latin America’s biggest economy is struggling with what Finance Minister Fernando Haddad has called a betting “pandemic,” prompting the government to tighten the screws on the sector.

Since 2018, when Brazil legalized sports betting sites, online gambling has operated in a regulatory free-for-all, subject to virtually no rules or taxes.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s government has called time on sites that failed to sign up to new regulations due to take effect in January.

The new rules seek to combat fraud and money laundering and protect users, by for example banning minors from betting.

“Anyone who is not regularized, or in the process of being regularized, is being taken off the air,” Haddad said in a statement.

The finance ministry said it had identified 2,040 “suspicious domains” which it had asked the telecoms regulatory agency Anatel to block.

On the blacklist is Esportes da Sorte, which sponsors Corinthians, one of Brazil’s most popular football clubs, as well as Athletico Paranaense, Bahia and Gremio de Porto Alegre.

The ministry said the betting sites would be blocked and banned from advertising, “which includes, for example, sponsoring football clubs.”

More than 200 other sites will be allowed to continue to operate after agreeing to the new rules.

Brazil’s central bank estimates that 24 million out of Brazil’s 212 million inhabitants, roughly one in nine people, gamble online.

Lula warned recently that betting was causing many low-income Brazilians to get into debt.
  • The World’s Three Biggest Nuclear Hotspots

The World’s Three Biggest Nuclear Hotspots

—Russian threat, amid Ukraine war –

Since invading neighbouring Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has on several occasions brandished the threat of atomic weapons against Kyiv’s Western allies.

On September 25, President Vladimir Putin proposed changes to the nuclear doctrine that would allow it to launch a nuclear response to a “massive launch of air and space attack weapons”.

Aggression against Russia by a non-nuclear state with the participation or support of a nuclear power would be seen as a joint attack.

Putin did not specifically mention Ukraine, a non-nuclear state, but it was clearly referenced as Kyiv is seeking permission to launch US-made long-range missiles into Russia.

In mid-2023, Russia deployed tactical nuclear weapons to its ally Belarus, which also borders Ukraine.

Its army in May launched drills near Ukraine on the use of tactical nuclear weapon in response to perceived threats from Western nations.

Russia captured the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in southern Ukraine, Europe’s biggest atomic facility, soon after its invasion.

The plant has come under repeated attacks that both sides have accused each other of carrying out.

    – North Korean exercises –

North Korea considers South Korea its “principal enemy”.

At a time when Pyongyang is boosting its military ties with Russia, leader Kim Jong Un’s regime has staged dozens of ballistic missile launches and sent thousands of trash-filled balloons into its neighbour’s air space this year.

Earlier this month, he said his country would use nuclear weapons “without hesitation” if attacked by the South and its United States ally, state media reported.

North Korea in September released images of its uranium enrichment facility for the first time.

Defying United Nations sanctions, Kim, who carried out six nuclear tests from 2006 to 2017, said in September his country was moving to steadily increase its nuclear arsenal.

According to the state news agency, in April Kim supervised the first simulated nuclear launch exercises in response to air exercises between the non-nuclear-armed South and the US, which protects it under its nuclear umbrella.

In January, Pyongyang announced having tested an underwater nuclear weapon system.

North Korea in 2022 declared itself an “irreversible” nuclear power, a status enshrined in the constitution in 2023.

    – Israel-Iran trade warnings –

Israel regards Iran’s nuclear facilities as an existential threat and has promised a “deadly, precise and surprising” response after Iran launched its second-ever direct strike on Israeli territory on October 1.

US President Joe Biden has warned Israel against striking nuclear infrastructure, while Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said the opposite.

Tehran has promised “an even stronger response” to an attack on its nuclear infrastructure.

More than three dozen hardline Iranian lawmakers on Thursday called on supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who wields ultimate authority in Iran, to reconsider his long-standing religious edict or fatwa banning nuclear weapons.

Tehran insists its nuclear activities are entirely peaceful and designed to produce energy.

A 2015 deal with major powers curbing Tehran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanction relief fell apart in 2018, when then US president Trump pulled his country out.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says Iran has significantly ramped up its nuclear programme and now has enough material to build more than three atomic bombs.

Israel is the Middle East’s only — if undeclared — nuclear-armed state.

  • How To Successfully Apply For The 2026 US Green Card Lottery

How To Successfully Apply For The 2026 US Green Card Lottery

The U.S. Department of State has announced the opening of the 2026 Electronic Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, commonly known as the Green Card Lottery. This annual initiative aims to diversify the immigrant population in the United States by selecting applicants from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S.

For the fiscal year 2026, up to 55,000 Diversity Visas (DVs) will be available. The application period runs from 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, until 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

This guide provides a detailed, step-by-step process on how to apply for the DV-2026 program, eligibility requirements, and important considerations for applicants.

    1. What is the Diversity Visa Program?

The Diversity Visa Program is part of the Immigration and Nationality Act, created to diversify the pool of immigrants to the U.S. by offering visas to people from underrepresented countries. For DV-2026, citizens from countries with high immigration rates to the U.S. are not eligible to apply. This year’s list includes nations such as India, China, Brazil, and Canada. The eligibility list remains largely unchanged from the previous year.

    2. Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for the DV-2026 program, applicants must meet two key requirements:

    a) Country of Birth

Applicants must be natives of countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. If your country of birth is ineligible, there are two possible exceptions:

    • Spousal Eligibility: If your spouse is from an eligible country, you can claim their country of birth, provided both of you enter the U.S. simultaneously.
    • Parental Eligibility: If neither of your parents was born or a resident in your country of birth, you can claim the country of one of your parents, provided it is eligible for the DV program.

    b) Education or Work Experience

Each applicant must also meet one of the following:

    • Education: A high school education or its equivalent, meaning successful completion of a 12-year course of formal education (primary and secondary).
    • Work Experience: Two years of work experience in the last five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience, as classified by the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*Net Online Database.

    3. How to Apply for DV-2026

    a) Application Period

The entry period for DV-2026 opens on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) and closes on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). Late entries or paper applications are not accepted, and only one entry per person is allowed during this time.

    b) Filling Out the Electronic Entry Form

All applications must be submitted electronically through the official U.S. Department of State website at dvprogram.state.gov. The form, known as the DS-5501, requires specific personal details:

    • Name (exactly as it appears on your passport)
    • Gender
    • Birth date
    • City and country of birth
    • Country of eligibility
    • A recent photograph of yourself and each accompanying family member, meeting strict technical specifications.

Make sure all information is accurate. Incomplete entries or incorrect details can lead to disqualification. The U.S. government utilizes sophisticated technology to detect multiple submissions, which will result in automatic disqualification.

    c) Photograph Requirements

A critical part of your application is the photograph. You must submit a recent photo (taken within the last six months) that adheres to U.S. visa standards:

    • Color photo
    • Plain white or off-white background
    • Full-face view with a neutral expression
    • No eyeglasses, hats, or head coverings (unless for religious reasons)

    d) Confirmation and Entrant Status Check

    c) Photograph Requirements

A critical part of your application is the photograph. You must submit a recent photo (taken within the last six months) that adheres to U.S. visa standards:

    • Color photo
    • Plain white or off-white background
    • Full-face view with a neutral expression
    • No eyeglasses, hats, or head coverings (unless for religious reasons)

    d) Confirmation and Entrant Status Check

Once your entry is submitted, you will receive a confirmation number. It is essential to keep this number for future reference, as it is the only way to check if you have been selected. You will not receive an email or postal notification.

Starting May 3, 2025, you can visit the same website to check your Entrant Status. If you are selected, the status page will provide further instructions, including how to proceed with your visa application and the necessary documentation.

    4. Selection Process

Selection for the Diversity Visa is entirely random, and the U.S. Department of State will conduct a computer-based drawing to choose the recipients. Selected applicants, or “selectees,” are then given the opportunity to apply for their visa. Importantly, being selected in the lottery does not guarantee a visa. It only means that you are eligible to apply for one.

Visas are distributed among six geographic regions, and no single country can receive more than 7% of the available visas in a given year. Given the limited number of visas (55,000), it is essential to act promptly if you are selected.

    5. Interview and Visa Issuance

If selected, the next step is submitting the DS-260 Immigrant Visa Application online and attending a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate. The interview process includes a thorough background check, during which the consular officer will determine your eligibility to immigrate.

You will need to pay a visa application fee before attending the interview. All family members must also undergo the same process, and visas must be issued by September 30, 2026, the last day of the U.S. government’s fiscal year. Failure to meet this deadline means that you will forfeit your eligibility for a visa.

    6. Avoid Scams and Fraud

The U.S. government does not charge a fee for submitting a DV lottery entry, nor does it send notifications via email. Any communication claiming that you need to pay to enter the lottery or that you have been selected via email is likely a scam. Protect yourself by ensuring you apply directly through the official U.S. government website.

Additionally, be cautious when using third-party services to assist with your application. Some “visa consultants” may withhold your confirmation number or charge illegal fees. It is highly recommended that you complete the application yourself to avoid these risks.

    7. Family Members and Dependents

When applying, you must include details of your spouse and all unmarried children under the age of 21, even if they do not intend to immigrate with you. Failure to list eligible family members can result in disqualification, even if you are selected.

In the case of spouses, both may submit separate entries if both meet the eligibility criteria. This increases the family’s chances of selection, as either can apply as the principal applicant, with the other listed as a derivative dependent.

    8. Key Deadlines and Recommendations

    • Application Period: October 2, 2024 – November 5, 2024
    • Entrant Status Check: Begins May 3, 2025
    • Visa Interview: Must be scheduled before September 30, 2026

    Tips for a Successful Application:

    • Apply early: The system tends to experience high traffic near the deadline, which can result in delays.
    • Double-check your information: Ensure that all details are accurate, especially your name, birth date, and photograph.
    • Keep your confirmation number: This is your only way to track your application status.
    • Follow up promptly: If selected, submit your DS-260 form and schedule your visa interview as soon as possible.

    Conclusion

The 2026 Diversity Visa Program is an invaluable opportunity for immigrants from underrepresented countries to obtain permanent residency in the United States. The process is straightforward, but it requires careful attention to detail and prompt action. By following the official guidelines, avoiding scams, and ensuring your application is accurate, you can improve your chances of being selected and ultimately securing a U.S. Green Card.

  • Musk’s X Pays Millions In Brazil Fines To Wrong Account

Musk’s X Pays Millions In Brazil Fines To Wrong Account

Elon Musk’s X has paid millions of dollars in fines in Brazil to settle a row with a judge who banned the platform in its biggest Latin American market over disinformation.

But the platform transferred the money into the wrong account, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who ordered the shutdown of X in August, said Friday.

The platform racked up $5.2 million (Sh670 million) in fines for failing to comply with a series of court orders.

Moraes confirmed that the social network had paid the full amount but into a different account from the one on the court order and said it had ordered that the funds be immediately redirected.

Moraes blocked X on August 31 after Musk refused to remove dozens of right-wing accounts accused of spreading disinformation and failed to name a new legal representative in the country as ordered.

X, which had 22 million users in Brazil before Moraes blocked it, hopes that payment of the penalties will settle the dispute.

The clash between Musk and Moraes morphed into a high-stakes battle which was closely followed around the globe as a test of both freedom of expression and the fight against disinformation.

A furious Musk hit out at Moraes over the ban calling him an “evil dictator” and dubbing him “Voldemort” after the villain from the “Harry Potter” series.

But in recent days he had been notably more muted on the subject and X has appeared eager to do whatever necessary to have the ban lifted.

The platform had briefly resumed service in Brazil in mid-September after a technical workaround which it claimed was “inadvertent.” But it went back offline again after Moraes threatened it with further fines.

X’s fight with Moraes began during Brazil’s 2022 presidential election campaign, when Moraes ordered the company to deactivate accounts of followers of failed far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro.

  • Trump Returns To Site Of Assassination Attempt In Pennsylvania, Vows To Win Presidential Election

Trump Returns To Site Of Assassination Attempt In Pennsylvania, Vows To Win Presidential Election

Former US President Donald Trump returned to the site of an assassination attempt in July, where he was wounded in his right ear during a rally.

“Tonight, I return to Butler in the aftermath of tragedy and heartache to deliver a simple message to the people of Pennsylvania and to the people of America,” Trump told supporters in Butler County nearly three months after the attempt on his life.

“Our movement to make America great again stands stronger, prouder, more united, more determined and nearer to victory than ever before,” he said. “We’re going to make America great again, going to win the election and win the election.”

Supporters gathered at the showgrounds hours before Trump’s arrival, with Pennsylvania State Police estimating the crowd at 21,000, according to the New York Post.

Donald Trump’s return to Butler, Pennsylvania, was as much a moment of personal triumph for him and his supporters as it was a tactical move by the former president. | Evan Vucci/AP

Trump called the shooter, who was killed by the Secret Service at the scene, a “vicious monster” who he said wanted to silence him

“For 16 harrowing seconds during the gunfire, time stopped as this vicious monster unleashed pure evil from his sniper’s perch,” said Trump. “By the hand of Providence and the grace of God, that villain did not succeed in his goal. Did not come close. He did not stop our movement. He did not break out our spirit. He did not shake our unyielding resolve to save America from evils of poverty, hatred and destruction.”

Thomas Matthew Crooks, a lone 20-year-old gunman, opened fire on Trump during a campaign rally, striking him in his right ear. The gunman also took the life of Corey Comperatore and seriously injured two others.

Trump called Comperatore a “brave guy” and praised him for his “tremendous courage” and asked the crowd to pay tribute by holding a minute of silence.

“To Helen (Comperatore’s widow) and the entire family. I can only begin to imagine the depths of your brief but I want you to know that we will carry his memory and our hearts for as long as we live,” he said.

Trump’s address was attended by his vice presidential nominee JD Vance and tech billionaire Elon Musk, who endorsed Trump shortly after the assassination attempt, among others.

Musk later took the stage to rally support for Trump in the November election.

Musk claimed Democrats want to take away Americans’ freedom of speech, right to bear arms and the right to vote effectively.

He said Trump must win the presidency to preserve democracy in America. “It’s very important — register to vote,” he said.

“Get everyone you know and everyone you don’t, drag them go to vote … make sure they actually vote. If they don’t, this will be the last election. That’s my prediction. Nothing’s more important,” he said.

  • Elon Musk Says Trump ‘Must Win To Preserve Democracy’ As He Makes First Appearance At The Former President’s Rally

Elon Musk Says Trump ‘Must Win To Preserve Democracy’ As He Makes First Appearance At The Former President’s Rally

Billionaire tech executive Elon Musk cast the upcoming presidential election in dire terms during a Saturday appearance with Donald Trump, calling the Republican presidential nominee the only candidate “to preserve democracy in America.”

The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla who also purchased X, Musk joined Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the former president survived an assassination attempt in July. He warned “this will be the last election” if Trump doesn’t win and, clad in a black-on-black cap bearing the “Make America Great Again” slogan of Trump’s campaign, appeared to acknowledge the foreboding nature of his remarks.

“As you can see I am not just MAGA — I am Dark MAGA,” he said.

The appearance marked the first time Musk joined one of Trump’s trademark rallies and represented the growing alliance between the two men in the final stretch of a competitive presidential election. Musk created a super PAC supporting the Republican nominee that has been spending heavily on get-out-the-vote efforts in the final months of the campaign. Trump has said he would tap Musk to lead a government efficiency commission if he regains the White House.

Trump joined Musk in August for a rare public conversation on X, an overwhelmingly friendly chat that spanned more than two hours. In it, the former president largely focused on the July assassination attempt, illegal immigration and his plans to cut government regulations.

Before a massive crowd on Saturday, Musk sought to portray Trump as a champion of free speech, arguing that Democrats want “to take away your freedom of speech, they want to take away your right to bear arms, they want to take away your fight to vote, effectively.” Musk went on to criticize a California effort to ban voter ID requirements.

Saturday’s rally took place at the same property where a gunman’s bullets grazed Trump’s right ear and killed his supporter, Corey Comperatore. The shooting left multiple others injured.

Several members of Comperatore’s family, as well as other attendees and first responders from the July rally, returned to the site on Saturday. Also appearing with the former president were his running mate Republican Ohio Sen. JD Vance, son Eric Trump, daughter-in-law and RNC co-chair Lara Trump, along with Pennsylvania lawmakers and sheriffs.
