  • Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Accused Of 1991 Sexual Assault In Second Suit

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Accused Of 1991 Sexual Assault In Second Suit

(Reuters) – Sean “Diddy” Combs has been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a university student in 1991 in a lawsuit filed in a New York court on Thursday, the second suit of its kind filed against the hip hop mogul in the past week.

The complaint against Combs was among a flurry of lawsuits filed this week against public figures under New York state’s Adult Survivors Act, ahead of the expiry of a special one-year window for such complaints. The law allows such lawsuits to be filed in court even if the statute of limitations have run out.

The lawsuit alleges Combs intentionally drugged and sexually assaulted Joi Dickerson-Neal, who was a Syracuse University student visiting New York City at the time of the alleged incident in January 1991.

Combs is also accused of videotaping the alleged crime and distributing the tape to others in the music industry.

“The sexual assault, and public exposure of it, caused her to suffer overwhelming feelings of humiliation, embarrassment, violation, and constant apprehension about who all viewed it,” lawyers for Dickerson-Neal wrote in the complaint.

Dickerson-Neal is seeking unspecified compensatory damages for mental and emotional injury, distress, pain and suffering and injury to her reputation, according to the lawsuit.

A spokesperson for Combs said Dickerson-Neal’s story is “made up and not credible,” and that the rapper never assaulted her.

“This is purely a money grab and nothing more,” the spokesperson said in an email.

The complaint against Combs comes a week after he settled a lawsuit by his former girlfriend, R&B vocalist Cassandra Ventura, accusing the rapper of serial physical abuse, sexual slavery and rape. Combs had strongly denied all the allegations.

Combs, 54, founder of Bad Boy Records, is one of the most influential producers and executives in hip-hop, as well as the impresario of his own Sean John clothing line.

  • American Rapper A$AP Rocky To Stand Trial For Shooting Of A Former Friend

American Rapper A$AP Rocky To Stand Trial For Shooting Of A Former Friend

US rapper A$AP Rocky will stand trial for pulling a gun twice on a former friend and shooting at him once, a court in Los Angeles ruled Monday.

The 35-year-old, who has two children with R&B star Rihanna, is being prosecuted on two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm. He has denied the charges.

The court heard how Terell Ephron, one of the founding members of the A$AP collective, was left slightly injured after the confrontation in Hollywood in November 2021.

At a hearing last week, Ephron, known by his stage name A$AP Relli, said the friendship between the two men had soured, accusing him of abandoning other members of the group, which was founded in New York in 2008.

While A$AP Rocky – whose real name is Rakim Mayers – had gone on to fame and fortune, other members of the collective have descended into poverty and drug use, he said.

After the death of one member of the group, the two men clashed in an encounter partially caught on surveillance camera.

Ephron said Mayers pulled a gun and thrust it towards his stomach, saying “I’ll kill you right now”.

In a later altercation, Ephron said he told his former friend he had “failed everybody” but that nobody was brave enough to tell him.

“I just wanted him to hear my side,” Ephron said, adding that Mayers had then shot at him, with the bullet grazing his left hand.

Mayers, who is free on bail, was ordered to be arraigned on 8 January.

  • Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Accused Of Rape And Abuse By Ex-Girlfriend Cassie

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Accused Of Rape And Abuse By Ex-Girlfriend Cassie

American businessman, producer, and musician Sean Combs has been sued in federal court in New York City on Thursday by his former girlfriend Casandra Ventura, who alleges she was raped and subjected to years of physical and other abuse by Combs.

“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships.

“With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity to speak up about the trauma I have experienced and that I will be recovering from for the rest of my life,” Ventura – an R&B singer who goes by the stage name Cassie – said in a statement.

The complaint alleges Combs “lured Ms Ventura into an ostentatious, fast-paced, and drug-fueled lifestyle, and into a romantic relationship with him” within two years of the pair meeting in 2005 or 2006 and Combs signing Ventura to his record label, Bad Boy Records, soon after.

Ventura claims in the suit that Combs “exerted his power and influence” over her throughout the course of their professional and romantic relationship.

According to the complaint, she was 19 when they met and Combs was 37, and their business relationship lasted until 2019.

The complaint details claims that Combs was physically violent toward Ventura, controlled all aspects of her personal life, “introduced” her to a lifestyle of “excessive” alcohol and substance abuse,” and forced her to engage in various sex acts with other men during that time.

In addition to Combs, the lawsuit names his companies, including Bad Boy Records, Bad Boy Entertainment and Combs Enterprises.

It also names Epic Records, which it lists as an employer of Ventura.

Ben Brafman, attorney for Combs, has denied these claims calling them outrageous and claiming Ventura was out to get a payday.

“Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations.

For the past 6 months, Mr. Combs, has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail.

Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr Combs’ reputation and seeking a payday.”

  • Petition Tabled In Parliament To Ban TikTok In Kenya

Petition Tabled In Parliament To Ban TikTok In Kenya

Speaker of the National Assembly Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetangula today read a petition to the house by Mr. Bob Ndolo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bridge Connect Consultancy regarding the banning of Tiktok in Kenya.

The Petitioner decries that while Tiktok has gained popularity among the youth in Kenya, the content that is being shared on the platform is inappropriate thus promoting violence, explicit sexual content, hate speech, vulgar language and offensive behavior which is a serious threat to the cultural and religious values of Kenya.

He further avers that Tiktok has been implicated in several privacy scandals over the past years. For instance, in 2019, the App was fined $5.7 million by the United States of America Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for illegally collecting personal information from children under the age of 13 by collecting data such as names, email addresses and locations from young users without their parents’ consent thus violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.

The Petitioner raised concerns that if the platform is not prohibited in Kenya, the App’s addictive nature would lead to a decline in academic performance and ascend in mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and sleep deprivation among the youth.

In his petition, Ndolo asked the house to intervene and take immediate action to safeguard Kenyans from the negative effects arising from the use of platform and altogether ban Tiktok in Kenya.

The leader of Majority Party Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah in his contribution stated that there is no sufficient ground to petition the house to ban the app which many of parliamentarians are subscribers. He noted that although there might be some app misuse by the app the house should not completely ban it but task the relevant committee with coming up with regulations on its use.

“Tiktok and other online platforms have created an opportunity for our youths to create content and earn a living thus resolving the challenges of unemployment,” He said.

His sentiments were echoed by Minority Leader Hon. Opiyo Wandayi who asked the petitioner to further look into the matter and analyze the positive impacts of the app vis-à-vis the negatives and appreciate the employment opportunities it creates to young people.

Prepare for a storm of new collaborations, both local and international, as Diamond promises to dominate social media trends from July 2023 to January 2024.

He’s also set to introduce a new artist under the prestigious Wasafi label – a talented and respectful individual.

    Diamond Platnumz

Diamond Platnumz didn’t stop there. He directly addressed the comparisons made between himself and other artists, calling them out for their inability to match his level of success.

While expanding his horizons beyond East Africa, Diamond faced criticism and scandalous rumors. Yet, he had the last laugh when he received international acclaim and filled stadiums in countries his detractors had only read about. In contrast, their artists were left waiting for radio concerts.

To his haters, Diamond has a clear message: he no longer cares about their opinions. He urges them to direct their attacks elsewhere, emphasizing that their mockery and hate are irrelevant to his journey.

In a bold statement, Diamond suggests that had these haters given good advice to the artists they compare to him, perhaps they would have achieved even a fraction of his remarkable success. He acknowledges their importance, especially during the Wasafi Festival season, and promises exciting projects for his Swahili-speaking audience. And who knows? He might even embark on a few ventures of his own.

Diamond’s message is clear: he’s unstoppable, and haters better take notice or step aside.

    Jackie Matubia

Jackie Matubia: A Statement of Independence

Matubia’s declaration of self-reliance came in the form of an Instagram post that left no room for interpretation. She asserted, “I take pride in having my own, so when people leave my life, nothing changes besides their weird s** no longer being in it.”

While the occasion is traditionally reserved for honoring fathers, Matubia used the opportunity to celebrate herself as a “hardworking mum.”

While Matubia is unapologetically vocal about her newfound independence, Blessing Lung’aho, the alleged baby daddy, has opted for silence. Despite the constant subliminal shots fired by Matubia, the award-winning actor has chosen not to respond publicly to the breakup rumors.

His silence leaves fans curious about his side of the story, with many questioning whether Matubia’s claims hold any truth or if there is more to the story than meets the eye.

    Jackie Matubia: The Empowered Woman?

Jackie Matubia believes that assertiveness and determination to thrive without relying on men for financial stability deserves applause. In a society where gender roles are often deeply entrenched, her stance challenges conventional norms and empowers women to embrace their own agency.

The silence from the award-winning actor only adds more intrigue to the situation. Whether their relationship has truly come to an end or this is a strategic publicity move remains uncertain.

Regardless, Matubia’s believes that her outspokenness serves as a powerful message to women everywhere, reminding them of their own strength and ability to thrive independently.

Spotify Ends Podcast Deal with Prince Harry and Meghan: A Shift in the Audio Landscape

Spotify has announced the termination of its highly-publicized podcast deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, formerly known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The partnership, which was seen as a significant move in the podcasting industry, aimed to provide a platform for the couple to share their experiences, perspectives, and insights.

This unexpected development raises questions about the dynamics of celebrity-driven podcasts and the challenges faced by streaming platforms in navigating complex content partnerships.

Prince Harry and The Rise of Celebrity Podcasts

Over the past few years, podcasts have become a powerful medium for individuals, including celebrities, to share their stories, passions, and expertise directly with their audience.

With their ability to connect on a personal level and create intimate audio experiences, podcasts have offered celebrities an opportunity to engage with fans in an authentic and unfiltered manner.

Recognizing this trend, streaming platforms like Spotify have actively sought out exclusive partnerships with high-profile figures to attract listeners and drive subscription growth.

    The Spotify-Podcasting Era

Spotify, one of the world’s leading audio streaming platforms, has been at the forefront of the podcasting revolution.

In recent years, the company has invested heavily in the podcasting space, acquiring popular podcast networks, signing exclusive deals with renowned hosts, and developing innovative podcasting technologies.

The move to partner with Prince Harry and Meghan was seen as a major coup for Spotify, as it represented the streaming giant’s foray into the world of royalty and celebrity.

The Prince Harry and Meghan Podcast

In December 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle unveiled their podcast series, “Archewell Audio,” through their production company, Archewell.

The couple aimed to leverage the podcast platform to amplify diverse voices and share inspiring stories.

The multi-year partnership with Spotify included a significant financial investment, promising a range of exclusive content from the couple, including interviews, panel discussions, and thought-provoking conversations.

    Unforeseen Challenges and the Termination

Despite the initial excitement surrounding the Prince Harry and Meghan podcast, the partnership faced its fair share of challenges.

The couple’s decision to step back from their royal duties, coupled with their candid interviews and public statements, had already made them a subject of intense scrutiny and controversy.

Some critics accused the couple of exploiting their celebrity status and monetizing their position within the royal family.

These factors may have contributed to a decline in public interest and a potential disconnect between the audience and the content provided by the couple.

Spotify’s decision to end the partnership can be seen as a strategic move to align its podcasting portfolio with changing market demands and audience preferences.

As the podcasting landscape becomes increasingly competitive, streaming platforms like Spotify need to continually assess the value and relevance of their content offerings.

While specific details about the termination remain undisclosed, it is evident that Spotify is recalibrating its podcasting strategy to focus on new opportunities and emerging voices.

    Implications for the Podcasting Industry

The end of the Prince Harry and Meghan podcast deal serves as a reminder that the success of a podcasting venture cannot solely rely on the celebrity status of its hosts. It underscores the importance of content quality, relatability, and an authentic connection with the audience. The podcasting industry is evolving, and listeners are seeking engaging, diverse, and original content that resonates with their interests and values.

    Conclusion

The termination of Spotify’s podcast deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle marks a significant shift in the audio landscape.

It highlights the need for streaming platforms and content creators to continually assess their partnerships and adapt to evolving audience expectations.

While the couple’s podcasting journey with Spotify has come to an unexpected end, it remains to be seen how they will explore other avenues to share.

  • American Rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Sues Diageo For Racism In Botched Liquor Deal

American Rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Sues Diageo For Racism In Botched Liquor Deal

(AFP)-Music producer and rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is suing spirits company Diageo, accusing it of neglecting their business agreement and failing to invest in his liquor brands because he is Black.

The complaint, filed Wednesday with the New York Supreme Court, said that while Diageo publicly promotes itself as a leader on diversity, Combs and his company found it unwilling to treat its Black partners equally.

Combs said Diageo “kneecapped” his Ciroc Vodka and DeLeon Tequila brands by depriving them of resources after they were “typecasted” as “Black brands” meant only for “urban” consumers.

Diageo and its executives “put their feet on the neck of Mr. Combs’ brands,” the suit said.

“In a business where production, distribution, and sales are the pillars of success, Ciroc and DeLeon have been starved of resources for all three.”

In a statement emailed to AFP, Diageo denied the allegations, describing its 15-year partnership with Combs as “productive and mutually beneficial.”

“This is a business dispute, and we are saddened that Mr. Combs has chosen to recast this matter as anything other than that,” a spokesperson said.

“Our steadfast commitment to diversity within our company and the communities we serve is something we take very seriously. We categorically deny the allegations that have been made and will vigorously defend ourselves in the appropriate forum.”

The suit also claimed the UK-based drinks giant devoted more attention and offered better support to other celebrity-backed competing brands, such as George Clooney’s Casamigos and Ryan Reynold’s Aviation Gin, while failing to meet its promises for investments in Combs Wines and Spirits.

“Diageo has treated Mr. Combs and his brands worse than others because he is Black,” the suit said, adding that one of the company’s managers “directly acknowledged the company’s racist undertones in 2019.”

According to the suit, the manager told Combs that “race was part of the reason Diageo limited the neighborhoods where the Combs brands were distributed,” and that if he were “Martha Stewart” things would be different.

Combs, a Grammy-winning rapper who has gone by the stage names Puff Daddy, P Diddy and Diddy, said in the complaint he intends to seek billions of dollars in damages in other legal proceedings against Diageo.

Diageo said in its statement it was “disappointed our efforts to resolve this business dispute amicably have been ignored.”

“While we respect Mr. Combs as an artist and entrepreneur, his allegations lack merit, and we are confident the facts will show that he has been treated fairly.”

  • It’s All Genge Growth As Jua Cali Drops ‘Utu Uzima’ Album

It’s All Genge Growth As Jua Cali Drops ‘Utu Uzima’ Album

The King of Genge has dropped his fifth studio album ‘Utu Uzima’ which a classic blend of vintage and newskul sound. From writing, production and performance, one cannot fail to acknowledge that rapper Jua Cali has presented serious growth that matches the title of the project.

The title literally translates to growth or maturity and it’s justified in all the tracks. Jua has featured a number of newskul artists in this project but he has kept it fresh in all the collaborations and maintained his genge touch at the same time.

‘Vile Iko’ which features Crystal Kagehi Asige is classic. This track, dedicated to rapper’s daughter is a call on the girl child to put in work in whatever they do, especially in education to face the unpredictable future.

He chose to work with Senator Asige, a classical singer who killed the chorus and laced the entire song with amazing adlibs. The former Sol Generation signee was actually the perfect artist to collaborate with on this one.

Hon. Asige is currently serving as a nominated senator, representing Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) flagship.

Her position on top of her lyrical and vocal prowess makes her a great inspiration to girls across the African continent.

And not in any specific order, the album also features ‘Habibi’ produced by Tee Hits. Jua Cali brought out his lyrical and crazy rhyming ability by creatively giving shout outs to prominent Kenyan women from entertainment, sports, media, corporate and politics.

It is also important to note that most of the tracks in this album are produced by Tee Hits, something that nears the newfound chemistry between rapper Nas and producer Hit Boy.

‘Paradise’ for instance, which features singer Kaleche Africana is a good blend of oldskul sound with urban vibe. Kaleche was magical on the chorus and Jua_Cali approached the verses as a grown and collected King of the sub-genre.

‘Utu Uzima’ is paying homage to genge and JuaCali’s musical growth and all the tracks are representing the title because they all capture the rapper’s undeniable growth.

And JuaCali’s prolificity is just as impressive as the quality of his work. He was crowned the best male Kenyan artist in 2007 when he won Pearl of Africa Music Awards (PAM Awards) alongside other accolades including; Kisima Music Awards – Best Male Artist & Boomba Male (2007), 2007 Chaguo La Teeniez Awards (CHAT Awards) – Best Male & Celebrity of the Year and 2006 Kisima Music Awards – Boomba Male (2006).

The rapper has stayed on the listeners’ radar for long, churning out singles and albums but one can’t struggle to note that each album is arguably better than the one that came before.

Unlike most of his peers, Jua Cali has been collaborating with new cats in the game with a promise to drop an album. ‘Utu Uzima’ it is, and the album is promising to be one of 2023’s best musical projects.

  • Nipsey Hustle’s Killer Gets 60 Years To Life In Prison

Nipsey Hustle’s Killer Gets 60 Years To Life In Prison

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles judge on Wednesday sentenced the man convicted of gunning down rapper Nipsey Hussle to 60 years to life in prison.

Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke II handed down the of-delayed sentence to Eric R. Holder Jr., 33, who was found guilty of the 2019 first-degree murder of the 33-year-old Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist outside the clothing store Hussle founded, the Marathon, in the South Los Angeles neighborhood where both men grew up in very similar circumstances.

After the monthlong trial, jurors in July also convicted Holder of two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault with a firearm for gunfire that hit two other men at the scene who survived.

Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke handed down the sentence Wednesday after hearing from one of Hussle’s friends and listening to a letter from Holder’s father that was read in court. Holder, dressed in orange jail attire, stared straight ahead throughout the proceedings and did not react when the sentence was read.

Holder was not eligible for the death penalty. He was nearly certain to get a sentence that would guarantee he would spend the rest of his life in prison, with only the details of his term in question.

The sentencing has been delayed in part so defense attorney Aaron Jansen could argue to reduce Holder’s conviction to manslaughter or second-degree murder, which Jacke rejected in December.

Hussle, whose legal name is Ermias Asghedom, and Holder had known each other for years growing up as members of the Rollin’ 60s in South LA. Both were aspiring rappers. But Holder never found the same success as Hussle, who would become a local hero and a national celebrity.

Actor Lauren London, who was Hussle’s partner and the mother of his two young children, did not attend any part of the trial, nor did any of his relatives, and none are expected to give victim impact statements, as often happens at such hearings.

Herman “Cowboy” Douglas, a close friend of Hussle who was standing with him when he was killed and testified during the trial, told the court that the killing was a tremendous loss both for him personally and for the South Los Angeles community where Hussle was a business leader and an inspiration.

“Nipsey was my friend, he was like a son, he was like a dad,” Douglas said. “Our community right now, we lost everything, everything we worked for. One man’s mistake, one man’s action, messed up a whole community.”

Douglas told the judge, “I don’t care what you give this guy. It ain’t about the time. I just want to know why. The world wants to know why. Why someone would do that?”

The evidence against Holder was so overwhelming — from eyewitnesses to surveillance cameras from local businesses that captured his arrival, the shooting and his departure — that his attorney conceded during trial that he had shot Hussle.

But Jansen argued to jurors that the heated circumstances of the shooting meant a lesser verdict of voluntary manslaughter was merited.

The jury returned with the first-degree murder verdict after about six hours of deliberations.

Jansen said afterward that he was “deeply disappointed” in the verdict, which they planned to appeal.

He did manage a minor victory for Holder by securing the attempted voluntary manslaughter convictions where prosecutors had sought attempted murder verdicts.

A year after his death, Hussle was mourned at a memorial at the arena then known as Staples Center, and celebrated in a performance at the Grammy Awards that included DJ Khaled and John Legend.
