  • Sean “Diddy” Combs Denied Bail Again In Sex Trafficking Case

Sean “Diddy” Combs Denied Bail Again In Sex Trafficking Case

Sean “Diddy” Combs was denied bail on Wednesday as he awaits a May sex trafficking trial by a judge who cited evidence showing him to be a “serious risk” of witness tampering and proof he has tried to hide prohibited communications with third parties while incarcerated.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian ruled in a five-page order following a bail hearing last week. At the hearing, lawyers for the hip-hop mogul argued that a $50 million bail package they proposed would be sufficient to ensure Combs doesn’t flee and doesn’t try to intimidate prospective trial witnesses.

Two other judges previously had agreed with prosecutors that the Bad Boy Records founder was a danger to the community if he is not behind bars. Subramanian concurred.

“There is compelling evidence of Combs’s propensity for violence,” Subramanian wrote.

Lawyers for Combs did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment on the decision. Nicholas Biase, a spokesperson for prosecutors, declined comment.

Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he coerced and abused women for years, aided by associates and employees. An indictment alleges that he silenced victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings.

A federal appeals court judge last month denied Combs’ immediate release while a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan considers his bail request. That appeal was put on hold while Subramanian, newly appointed to the case after an earlier judge stepped aside, considered the bail request for the first time.

Subramanian said he took a fresh look at all the bail arguments and the evidence supporting them to make his decision.

Prosecutors have insisted that no bail conditions would be sufficient to protect the public and prevent the “I’ll Be Missing You” singer from fleeing.

They say that even in a federal lockup in Brooklyn, Combs has orchestrated social media campaigns designed to influence prospective jurors and tried to publicly leak materials he thinks can help his case. They say he also has contacted potential witnesses through third parties.

Lawyers for Combs say any alleged sexual abuse described in the indictment occurred during consensual relations between adults and that new evidence refutes allegations that Combs used his “power and prestige” to induce female victims into drugged-up, elaborately produced sexual performances with male sex workers known as “Freak Offs.”

Subramanian said evidence shows Combs to be a “serious risk of witness tampering,” particularly after he communicated over the summer with a grand jury witness and deleted some of his texts with the witness.

The judge also cited evidence showing that Combs violated Bureau of Prisons regulations during pretrial detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn when he paid other inmates to use their phone code numbers so he could make calls to individuals who were not on his approved contact list.

He said there was also evidence that he told family members and defense counsel to add other people to three-way calls so their communications would be more difficult to trace and that he made efforts to influence his trial’s jury pool or to reach potential witnesses.

Subramanian said his “willingness to skirt” jailhouse rules to conceal communications was “strong evidence” that any conditions of release would not prevent similar behavior.

The judge said defense claims that Combs stopped using one particular phone technique criticized by prosecutors was belied by the fact that Combs apparently used it again on Sunday, two days after his bail hearing last week.

Even a bail proposal that would include the strictest form of home confinement seemed insufficient, the judge said.

“Given the nature of the allegations in this case and the information provided by the government, the Court doubts the sufficiency of any conditions that place trust in Combs and individuals in his employ — like a private security detail — to follow those conditions,” Subramanian wrote.

  • TikTok’s ‘Mapangale’ Dance Sparks Outcry Over Violent Imagery

TikTok’s ‘Mapangale’ Dance Sparks Outcry Over Violent Imagery

Kenyans have continued to raise alarm over the viral TikTok dance known as Mapangale, which mimics the cutting motion of a machete (panga) and insinuates violent acts.

The trend, started by entertainer MC Zendiambo of Mbogi Naree Entertainment, has sparked mixed reactions online, with many deeming it inappropriate and insensitive given rising cases of gender-based violence and femicide.

The dance, which involves participants symbolically mimicking a knife motion across the neck, has drawn criticism for normalizing violent imagery.

Zendiambo dismissed the criticism in a heated response, stating that many dances are considered controversial when they first come out.

“Mi mtu asiniambie kitu… kama haikubambi, keep off!” (No one should tell me anything, if it does not interest you, keep off).

Kenyans have however continued to call for the dance to be banned, especially as the country gears up for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya, who is known for his strict stances on moral and cultural content weighed in on the matter calling for a ban and pledging to work with relevant authorities to address the issue.

“This kind of content normalizes violence and is misogynistic.”

Dr. Mutua’s stance is consistent with his past efforts to regulate cultural content in Kenya.

During his time at KFCB, he took a strict approach to censoring films, music, and advertisements, often expanding his mandate beyond rating content to outright bans.

One user @Rioba_is_Gerald echoed Dr. Mutua’s sentiments on the trend noting that the timing of its emergence is wrong.

“That mapangale dance as much as it may look fun is bad symbolism especially during this period where homicide cases are being reported almost daily. Those trending videos and the whole dance should be cancelled.”

Another user @BrianGeorgeKE commented on the dance stating that Kenyans are creative when coming up with new dances but sometimes miss the mark.

“Jokes aside! Mapangale dance is indecent and promotes violence. We have good dance styles and can come up with better ones, not this one!”

  • Nominated Senator Asige Demands Payment from Sauti Sol for Contributions to ‘Extravaganza’

Nominated Senator Asige Demands Payment from Sauti Sol for Contributions to ‘Extravaganza’

Nominated Senator Crystal Asige who is a former member of Sol Generation has sued the music label associated to popular group Sauti Sol accusing them of exploiting her

In the case, Asige accuses of exploiting her disability by using lyrics she composed in their hit song ‘extravaganza’ and not paying her royalties.

She claims that they violated her intellectual property rights by not paying her royalties for her contributions to their hit songs “Extravaganza” and “1919 to Forever’.

While testifying in court on Monday this week, Asige said her lyrics and melody were used in “Extravaganza,” a track from Sauti Sol’s Midnight Train album, without her consent.

The court heard that Asige was credited as a co-writer, but no formal negotiations took place and she did not receive any royalties for her work.

It was her testimony that she composed the third line of the song during a recording session at Snow-Ball Studio in Nyari Estate, Nairobi.

The senator also said she was involved in writing of another song in the Sol Generations album titled ‘1919 to Forever’ and it was released on their platforms without her knowledge.

“I later learned that a Sh 5 million deal had been struck, purportedly on my behalf, yet I received no payment,’ she said.

It was her further statement that her solo song ‘Lenga’ which gained traction on social media, was shared on Sol Generation’s platforms without proper compensation.

Asige claims that Sol Generation offered her development training in exchange for her copyrights but it is her argument that the agreement was ambiguous and not reflective of standard contract norms.

On the issue of exploiting her disability, Asige said the label used her disability as a marketing strategy to solicit funds and when she tried fighting for her rights she was fired from the label

Sol Generation allegedly told her that she was the “weakest singer” in the team and that the company was too broke to pay her royalties.

However, in cross-examination by Lawyer Maloba for Sol Generation, Asige
conceded that the label holds 100% master rights under the agreement.

But she clarified that according to her Sauti Sol cannot collect royalties owed to her because she did not sign the necessary agreements but she could not produce evidence proving that royalties were collected without her consent.

Asige urged the court to compel Sol Generation to pay her dues, arguing that her dedication and creativity deserve recognition. She emphasized the need to protect the rights of other creatives who may face similar challenges.

  • Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Seeks Bail, Citing Changed Circumstances And New Evidence

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Seeks Bail, Citing Changed Circumstances And New Evidence

(AP) — Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs filed a new request for bail on Friday, saying changed circumstances, along with new evidence, mean the hip-hop mogul should be allowed to prepare for a May trial from outside jail.

Lawyers for Combs filed the request in Manhattan federal court, where his previous requests for bail have been rejected by two judges since his September arrest on racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.

He has pleaded not guilty to charges that he coerced and abused women for years with help from a network of associates and employees, while silencing victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings.

He has been awaiting a May 5 trial at a federal detention facility in Brooklyn.

In their new court filing, lawyers for Combs say they are proposing a “far more robust” bail package that would subject the entertainer to strict around-the-clock security monitoring and near-total restrictions on his ability to contact anyone but his lawyers. But the amount of money they attach to the package remains $50 million, as they proposed before.

They also cite new evidence that they say “makes clear that the government’s case is thin.” That evidence, the lawyers said, refutes the government’s claim that a March 2016 video showing Combs physically assaulting his then-girlfriend occurred during a coerced “freak off,” a sexually driven event described in the indictment against Combs.

They wrote that the encounter was instead “a minutes-long glimpse into a complex but decade-long consensual relationship” between Combs and his then-girlfriend.

The lawyers argued that the jail conditions Combs is experiencing at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn violate his constitutional rights to participate in his defense.

  • Music Titan Quincy Jones, Dies At 91

Music Titan Quincy Jones, Dies At 91

Quincy Jones, the multi-talented music titan whose vast legacy ranged from producing Michael Jackson’s historic “Thriller” album to writing prize-winning film and television scores and collaborating with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and hundreds of other recording artists, has died at 91.

Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, says he died Sunday night at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Jones rose from running with gangs on the South Side of Chicago to the very heights of show business, becoming one of the first Black executives to thrive in Hollywood and amassing an extraordinary musical catalog that includes some of the richest moments of American rhythm and song. For years, it was unlikely to find a music lover who did not own at least one record with his name on it, or a leader in the entertainment industry and beyond who did not have some connection to him.

Jones kept company with presidents and foreign leaders, movie stars and musicians, philanthropists and business leaders. He toured with Count Basie and Lionel Hampton, arranged records for Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, composed the soundtracks for “Roots” and “In the Heat of the Night,” organized President Bill Clinton’s first inaugural celebration and oversaw the all-star recording of “We Are the World,” the 1985 charity record for famine relief in Africa.

Lionel Richie, who co-wrote “We Are the World” and was among the featured singers, would call Jones “the master orchestrator.”

  • American Rapper Lil Durk Charged With Orchestrating A 2022 Killing

American Rapper Lil Durk Charged With Orchestrating A 2022 Killing

Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Durk has been arrested in Florida on federal charges that he paid for the attempted 2022 revenge killing of rapper Quando Rondo at a Los Angeles gas station, a shooting that resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin.

Durk, 32, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in the slaying of Saviay’a Robinson, 24, who was gunned down on Aug. 19, 2022, according to an FBI affidavit released Friday.

Five other members of Durk’s Chicago-based rap collective, “Only the Family” or “OTF,” have also been arrested and at least two more arrests may be forthcoming, according to court documents that have been filed. Durk was arrested Thursday night in South Florida as he attempted to flee the country, the FBI says.

Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, won a Grammy earlier this year for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his song “All My Life,” which featured J. Cole. He has also been nominated three times and was a featured performer on Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later.”

FBI Agent Sarah Corcoran said in her affidavit that OTF members engage “in violence, including murder and assault, at the direction of Banks and to maintain their status in OTF.”

Durk’s representatives did not immediately respond to emails Friday seeking comment.

According to Corcoran’s affidavit and other federal court records, the shooting stems from the November 2020 slaying of OTF rapper King Von, 26, at an Atlanta nightclub after Von and Rondo got into a fight. Records say a friend of Rondo’s pulled a gun and shot Von several times, killing him. Von, whose real name was Dayvon Bennett, had two hit singles, ″Crazy Story″ and “Took Her to the O.”

Authorities say Durk made it known that he would “pay a bounty” to anyone who killed Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman.

Almost two years later, a murder plot quickly came together, Corcoran wrote.

On Aug. 18, 2022, Durk’s associates learned that Rondo was staying at a Los Angeles hotel. That day, Deandre Wilson, Keith Jones, David Lindsey, Asa Houston and a fifth unnamed suspect flew from Chicago to San Diego and then drove to Los Angeles using funds provided by Durk, Corcoran said.

That day, Durk allegedly texted an associate arranging the flights, “Don’t book no flights under no names involved wit me.” Corcoran said there is video evidence that Durk was staying at a house in the San Fernando Valley that day.

Once arriving in Los Angeles, the OTF members met Kayon Grant, who had flown there on a private jet. Grant, a top OTF associate, got the men hotel rooms, purchased them four ski masks and obtained two luxury sedans, court records say. Grant allegedly gave Jones, Lindsey and a third unnamed suspect guns, including one that had been converted into a fully automatic machine gun.

The next day, the group allegedly followed Rondo and Robinson as they drove a Cadillac Escalade to a Los Angeles marijuana dispensary, a West Hollywood clothing store and then a gas station across the street from the Beverly Center.

There, Houston parked his car behind the station so Jones, Lindsey and the unnamed defendant could ambush Rondo. They got out and opened fire, killing Robinson, who was standing outside the Escalade, but missing Rondo, the indictment and news stories about the shooting say.

The suspects then went to an In-N-Out hamburger stand where they discussed payment with Grant and then flew home to Chicago from San Diego, Corcoran and other documents say. Wilson allegedly later paid Jones and Lindsey an undisclosed amount.

Grant, Jones. Lindsey, Wilson and Houston were arrested Thursday in Chicago on conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire charges. No attorney information was immediately available for those men in court records.

After their arrests, Corcoran wrote, Durk booked two flights from South Florida airports — one to Dubai and one to Switzerland. He then booked a private flight to Italy, but was arrested in Miami before he could board that flight.

Durk and the other defendants are being held pending their transfer to Los Angeles.

  • Menendez Brothers’ Family To Push For Their Release As Prosecutors Review 1989 Case

Menendez Brothers’ Family To Push For Their Release As Prosecutors Review 1989 Case

(AP) — The extended family of Erik and Lyle Menendez will advocate for the brothers’ release from prison during a news conference set for Wednesday in downtown Los Angeles as prosecutors review new evidence to determine whether they should be serving life sentences for killing their parents.

Billed as “a powerful show of unity” by more than a dozen family members — including the brothers’ aunt — who are traveling across the country to Los Angeles, the news conference will take place less than two weeks after LA County District Attorney George Gascón announced his office was looking at the brothers’ case again.

Erik Menendez, now 53, and his 56-year-old brother, Lyle Menendez, are currently incarcerated in state prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of killing their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion more than 35 years ago.

Lyle Menendez, who was then 21, and Erik Menendez, then 18, admitted they fatally shot-gunned their entertainment executive father, Jose Menendez, and their mother, Kitty Menendez, in 1989 but said they feared their parents were about to kill them to prevent the disclosure of the father’s long-term sexual molestation of Erik.

The extended family’s attorney Bryan Freedman previously said they strongly support the brothers’ release. Comedian Rosie O’Donnellalso plans to join the family on Wednesday.

“She wishes nothing more than for them to be released,” Freedman said earlier this month of Joan VanderMolen, Kitty Menendez’s sister and the brothers’ aunt.

Earlier this month, Gascón said there is no question the brothers committed the 1989 murders, but his office will be reviewing new evidence and will make a decision on whether a resentencing is warranted in the notorious case that captured national attention.

The brothers’ attorneys said the family believed from the beginning they should have been charged with manslaughter rather than murder. Manslaughter was not an option for the jury during the second trial that ultimately led to the brothers’ murder conviction, attorney Mark Geragos previously said.

The case has gained new traction in recent weeks after Netflix began streaming the true-crime drama “ Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

The new evidence includes a letter written by Erik Menendez that his attorneys say corroborates the allegations that he was sexually abused by his father. A hearing was scheduled for Nov. 29.

Prosecutors at the time contended there was no evidence of any molestation. They said the sons were after their parents’ multimillion-dollar estate.

But the brothers have said they killed their parents out of self-defense after enduring a lifetime of physical, emotional and sexual abuse from them. Their attorneys argue that because of society’s changing views on sexual abuse, that the brothers may not have been convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole today.

Jurors in 1996 rejected a death sentence in favor of life without parole.

The charismatic journalist, who once graced our screens, had disappeared from the public eye, only to later reveal the immense struggles he faced behind the scenes.

His mental health took a toll, culminating in his admission to the Mombasa Women Empowerment Network Mental Rescue Center.

Oga Obinna, a media personality and comedian, was among the first public figures to offer assistance by mobilizing Kenyans to contribute any amount to save Kimani, after finding out through his social media posts where he spoke about his struggle with Bipolar Disorder.

The former Governor of Nairobi, Mike Sonko, in an interview with Oga Obinna, offered to  clear his bill and relocate him from Kilimani, Nairobi to Mombasa.

He not only offered to help Kimani, but also Eunice Omollo, an NTV Health and Science journalist, who’s also recuperating well.

During his four-month stay at the center, Kimani received specialized treatment and therapy.

Key figures in his recovery included dedicated mental health professionals at the facility, along with a strong support system of family and friends who rallied around him.

New Lawsuits Accuse Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Of Sexual Assault Against 6 people, Including A 16-Year-Old Boy

(AP) — A new wave of lawsuits filed Monday accuses Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping women, sexually assaulting men and molesting a 16-year-old boy.

At least six lawsuits were filed against the hip-hop mogul in federal court in Manhattan. They were filed anonymously, two by women identified as Jane Does and four by men identified as John Does.

The accusers are part of what their lawyers say is a group of more than 100 alleged victims who are in the process of taking legal action against Combs in the wake of his sex trafficking arrestlast month.

One of the John Does, a man living in North Carolina, alleges that Combs fondled his genitals when he was 16 at one of the rapper’s famous white parties in Long Island’s Hamptons in 1998.

The man alleges that during a conversation about possibly breaking into the music industry, Combs abruptly ordered the then-teen to drop his pants.

According to the man’s lawsuit, Combs explained to him that it was a rite of passage to becoming a music star, at one point asking the then-teen: “Don’t you want to break into the business?”

The man said he complied out of fear, anxiety and power imbalance he felt with Combs, only realizing later that what had happened was sexual assault.

Until Monday’s lawsuit, Combs had only been accused in civil cases and his criminal indictment of sexual activity with adults.

Combs’ lawyers and other representatives did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. When the planned lawsuits were announced Oct. 1, a lawyer said Combs “cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a reckless media circus.”

Combs, 54, has pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges alleging he coerced and abused womenfor years with help from a network of associates and employees while silencing victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings.

Combs’ lawyers have been trying unsuccessfully to get the Bad Boy Records founder freed on bail. He has been held at a federal jail in Brooklyn since his Sept. 16 arrest.

Two judges have concluded that Combs would be a danger to the community if he is released from the Metropolitan Detention Center, a facility that has been plagued by violence and dysfunction for years. At a bail hearing three weeks ago, a judge rejected a $50 million bail package, including home detention and electronic monitoring, after concluding that Combs was a threat to tamper with witnesses and obstruct a continuing investigation.

On Friday, an appeals court judge denied Combs’ immediate release from jail while a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals weighs his bail request.

The other lawsuits filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan include allegations of rape, forced oral sex and drugging to incapacitate victims.

One of the Jane Does suing Combs alleges he raped her in a locked hotel room in 2004 after he invited her and a friend there for a party, gave them drinks and told them to snort cocaine.

The woman, a college freshman at the time, alleges Combs also forced her friend to perform oral sex on him and said he would have them both killed if they didn’t comply with his demands.

The other Jane Doe alleges Combs violently attacked and raped her in a bathroom in 2005 at a party for the late rapper Biggie Smalls’ music video, “One More Chance.”

According to the woman, Combs brought her into the bathroom to talk privately and then started kissing her unexpectedly. When she tried to pull away, she alleges, he slammed her head against the wall, causing her to fall to the floor. The woman said she tried to escape, but Combs hit her again and raped her.

Afterward, according to the woman, Combs nonchalantly adjusted his clothing and told her: “You better not tell anyone about this, or you will disappear.”

In another John Doe lawsuit, a man working as a security guard at Combs’ Hamptons white party in 2006 alleges the star gave him an alcoholic beverage that he came to believe was laced with a drug that made him feel extremely ill. The man alleges that Combs then pushed him into a van, held him down and sexually assaulted him.

In the other lawsuits filed Monday, Combs is accused of forcing a man to perform oral sex on him in the stockroom of Macy’s flagship store in Manhattan’s Herald Square in 2008 and sexually assaulting a man at a party in October 2021. The latter man, who suspects a drugged beverage left him unable to fight back, recalls multiple men assaulting him and distinctly recalls seeing Combs above him, naked, at one point during the assault, his lawsuit said.

  • South African Feminist Group Seek To Stop Chris Brown’s Concert Over Rihanna’s Abuse Case

South African Feminist Group Seek To Stop Chris Brown’s Concert Over Rihanna’s Abuse Case

BBC– Chris Brown’s forthcoming concert in South Africa has led to renewed focus on the country’s shocking levels of violence against women, with campaigners saying it sends the wrong message given his history of abuse.

In less than two hours, the Grammy-winner managed to sell out tickets to the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg – the largest stadium in Africa with over 94,000 seats. Demand was so high that a second December date was added.

Despite the massive interest, the R ‘n’ B star has experienced a backlash from people who did not want him to perform due to his violent past.

“When I saw the news that Chris Brown was coming to South Africa, I was shocked and deeply disappointed,” said Sabina Walter, executive director of Women for Change, an organisation that advocates for the rights of women and children in South Africa.

The group has started a petition to stop the US artist from performing. It currently has over 20,000 signatures.

“The petition was started to send a strong message that we will not tolerate the celebration of individuals with a history of violence against women,” said Ms Walter, especially in a country like South Africa.

South Africa has one of the highest rates of femicide and gender-based violence in the world.

A rape is reported in the country roughly every 12 minutes and it is assumed that many more go unrecorded.

“When someone like Chris Brown is given a platform in a country where GBV is at crisis levels, it sends a damaging message – that fame and power outweigh accountability,” said Ms Walters.

The most well-known instance in Chris Brown’s history of abuse is the domestic dispute with singer Rihanna in 2009.

Chris Brown, who was 19 at the time, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to five years probation, community service and domestic violence counselling.

Although Rihanna forgave him and the pair briefly dated again after the incident, Chris Brown has also been accused of violence by other women – and men.

Women for Change says it wants to know how the Department of Home Affairs could grant “a convicted abuser” a visa.

For Ms Walter, the decision is “concerning and indicative of a systemic failure”.

According to South African law, having a previous conviction can result in a visa being denied. But there can be an exception for “good cause” and those are cleared by the Director General of the Department of Home Affairs.

Chris Brown has previously been banned from entering other countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, although he has subsequently gone on to play in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

But his South African fans are undeterred.

Former University of Cape Town vice-chancellor Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng shared on X that she would be attending the Chris Brown concert.

“I am totally against GBV and condemn it. I believe that those who perpetrate GBV should face the full might of the law without exceptions or leniency.

“But let me be clear, just in case the message didn’t sit well: I am going to attend Brown’s concert if he comes. These two things are not mutually exclusive.

“To suggest that enjoying a concert aligns you with every past action of the artist is, at best, simplistic and, at worst, intellectually dishonest,” she said.

Prof Phakeng explained that “music is bigger than the individual”.

She added that boycotting Chris Brown’s concert wouldn’t end GBV in South Africa.

“Attending the concert does not magically erase our moral stance on GBV.”

Although this is not Chris Brown’s first concert in South Africa, there is huge excitement among his fans.

One said on X: “Chris Brown coming to South Africa??… I’ll take a loan for a meet & greet.”

“Chris Brown you don’t know us yet… but my wife and I will be those two microscopic fans in the stands singing and dancing to every jam!!!!” said another.

Ms Waters said she had even received threats because of her campaign against the US star.

“Supporters of Chris Brown seem ready to defend him at any cost,” she said.

“The criticism we are facing for our petition speaks volumes and actually reveals a deep disconnect in how we, as a society, view violence against women.”

She said that too often people were willing to “excuse abusive” behaviour when it comes to celebrities they admire.

Selective outrage is dangerous because it perpetuates the rape culture and high levels of violence women face every day, said Ms Walters.

President Cyril Ramaphosa accepts that South Africa has a huge problem with gender-based violence and in August, he called on the country’s men to take a stand.

“Our ultimate goal is to end gender-based violence altogether,” he said.

Yet this goal remains a distant one – little has changed five years after he called for action to tackle the country’s “rape crisis”.

This year alone, Women for Change has honoured over 200 women who have lost their lives to femicide.

“This fight isn’t just about this concert. It’s about changing the narrative in South Africa, where abusers are held accountable and where violence against women is never excused, overlooked, or forgotten.”

  • ‪Kanye West Sued For Allegedly Drugging, Sexually Assaulting Ex-Assistant At Diddy Studio Session‬

‪Kanye West Sued For Allegedly Drugging, Sexually Assaulting Ex-Assistant At Diddy Studio Session‬

Controversial rapper Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) is being sued by a former assistant, who has accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her at a party. The incident happened at a studio session that Ye co-hosted by Diddy.

In a new complaint, Lauren Pisciotta who has worked with Ye as his assistant from 2021 to 2022, has accused West of sexually assaulting her.

In a new lawsuit filed on Oct 8 in Los Angeles County Court, the influencer has revealed horrifying inside details about Ye and Diddy’s party.

In the filing, Pisciotta alleges that years before she worked with the rapper, she was invited to a studio session in Santa Monica, California. At the party, she said, ”drinks were served to others in attendance, followed by an announcement that everybody had to drink if they wanted to stay.”

During the part, she allegedly accused the rapper of drugging her. In the complaint, she said that the drink that was served to her at the request of West was “laced with an unidentifiable drug,” and after a few small sips, she started disoriented.

“As plaintiff began to slip into an altered and heavily impaired state, she felt less in control of her body and speech, and that is where plaintiff’s memories of that night escape her,” the new complaint reads.

In the complaint, she further alleges that the next day she woke “feeling physically ill and confused”. She was not able to recall what happened to her after she had the drink.

Pisciotta found out about being physically abused by the rapper years later when she again met the rapper and he brought up the night they first met.

During the conversation, the rapper told Pisciotta that they “did kind of hook up a little one time,” referring to the part.

“Up until that very point, right before that very conversation, Plaintiff [Pisciotta] was unaware that she had been subjected to gender violence and sexual battery on that studio night by KANYE WEST a.k.a YE,” the document reads.

In a new complaint, she has mentioned Sean as the co-host of the event, without accusing the Grammy winner of any serious charges. Sean is currently behind the jail for sex trafficking and racketeering.

In June, Pisciotta sued the rapper for sexual harassment, breach of contract, and wrongful termination.

Ye has not reacted to this new complaint yet.

Harry Porter Actress Maggie Smith Dies Aged 89, BBC Reports

British actress Maggie Smith, an award winning Shakespearian actress and double Oscar winner who later appeared in the Harry Potter films, has died aged 89, the BBC reported on Friday.

One of the few actors to win the treble of an Oscar (two), Emmy (four), and Tony, Smith’s long career started on the stage in the 1950s.

But for many younger fans in the 21st century, she was best-known as Professor McGonagall in all seven “Harry Potter” movies, and the Dowager Countess in the hit TV series and movie spin-offs of “Downton Abbey,” a role that seemed tailor-made for an actress known for purse-lipped asides and malicious cracks.

Her first Academy Award nomination was for her turn playing Desdemona opposite Laurence Olivier’s “Othello” in 1965, before winning the Oscar for her role as an Edinburgh schoolmistress in 1969’s ““The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.”

She won her second Oscar for her supporting role in the 1978 comedy “California Suite,” a performance that prompted co-star Michael Caine to say: “Maggie didn’t just steal the film, she committed grand larceny.”

Other critically acclaimed roles included Lady Bracknell in Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” on the West End stage, a 92-year-old bitterly fighting senility in Edward Albee’s play “Three Tall Women,” and her part in 2001 black comedy movie “Gosford Park.”

In 1990 Smith was knighted by Queen Elizabeth and became a Dame.

Somali-Canadian Rapper K’naan Charged With Sexual Assault

Somali-Canadian rapper K’naan, whose song “Wavin’ Flag” became an anthem of the 2010 soccer World Cup, was charged on Thursday with sexual assault in Quebec City in 2010, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp said.

CBC, citing court documents, said the singer – whose real name is Keinan Abdi Warsame – is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman in the city in July that year. The alleged victim was in her twenties at the time.

A preliminary inquiry has been set for April 2025. CBC cited a lawyer for the singer saying K’naan – who lives in New York – wanted to be tried in English in front of a jury.

The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada this week gave K’naan an award to mark the “global and lasting impact” of his 2009 hit. Coca-Cola chose a remixed version of the song as its anthem for the 2010 World Cup.

Diddy Refuses To Eat Jail Food

Sean “Diddy” Combs is reportedly refusing to eat while in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, allegedly due to fears of being poisoned.

Former inmate Larry Levine, who spoke to the media, suggested the rapper may be paranoid about food safety, speculating that someone could bribe prison staff to harm him.

“There are people out there that he has things on who have substantial money,” Levine said. “Imagine if someone paid someone off on the inside to poison his food, give him a heart attack, and he dies — no one would really think anything of it.”

Levine also mentioned other potential reasons for Diddy’s refusal to eat, including the possibility that the music mogul is on a hunger strike or that the food quality itself is to blame.

“The food is bland, it’s a lot of carbohydrates. It fills you up, but you get sick eating it. There’s mold in a lot of that food. Maybe he got sick from the food, that’s another possibility,” Levine added.

Since being taken into custody, Combs has reportedly received visits from a dietician, a religious representative, and a mental health physician.

Levine noted that Combs is under suicide watch, with a mental health specialist checking on him several times a day.

Combs was arrested following an indictment accusing him of years of coercion, blackmail, and abuse, including forcing female victims and male sex workers into drug-induced sexual performances, referred to as “Freak Offs.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charges last week, but his request for bail — including a $50 million offer for electronic monitoring was denied.

Prosecutors have interviewed over 50 victims and witnesses, with more expected to come forward. The Metropolitan Detention Center, known for its harsh conditions, has housed numerous high-profile inmates and is often described as “hell on earth.”

The center is primarily used for individuals awaiting federal trials or serving short sentences. Despite pleas from Combs’ legal team, his release remains unlikely as the case continues to unfold.

  • Memphis Man Testifies That He And Another Man Were Offered $100K To Kill Rapper Young Dolph But Only Received $800

Memphis Man Testifies That He And Another Man Were Offered $100K To Kill Rapper Young Dolph But Only Received $800

(AP) — A Memphis man testified on Monday that he and a second person shot and killed rapper Young Dolph after Big Jook, the brother of rapper Yo Gotti, put a hit on him.

Cornelius Smith identified himself and Justin Johnson as the two people seen on a Nov. 17, 2021, surveillance video exiting a white Mercedes outside a Memphis cookie store about 30 seconds after Young Dolph entered the store and then opening fire in broad daylight.

Smith was testifying in the first day of Johnson’s trial on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and being a felon in possession of a gun.

Smith also faces murder and conspiracy charges. Johnson’s attorney, Luke Evans, told the jury in opening statements that they should not trust Smith’s testimony because he was just trying to save himself. Johnson is innocent, Evans said. Photos of him wearing clothes like the person in the video do not mean he is same as person, Evans said.

Deputy District Attorney Paul Hagerman, in opening statements, said Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr., was determined to make it on his own as an artist, and also with his own label, Paper Route Empire.

“Trying to make it on your own can create enemies,” Hagerman said.

He noted that Yo Gotti-founded rival record label Cocaine Muzic Group (now known as Collective Music Group) and wanted Young Dolph to work for them, but he turned them down. Young Dolph later wrote diss tracks directed at the label, its artists, and its “number two person,” Big Jook.

Young Dolph had survived previous shootings. He was shot multiple times in September 2017 after a fight outside a Los Angeles hotel. In February of that year, his SUV was shot at in Charlotte, North Carolina, more than 100 times. The incident was the inspiration for the song “100 Shots.” He said he survived because he had bulletproof panels in his vehicle.

Big Jook, whose real name was Anthony Mims, was shot and killed outside a restaurant in January 2024, according to media reports.

Smith, who said he was shot in the arm and the leg by Young Dolph’s brother, Marcus Thornton, as he fled the cookie store shooting testified that he received only $800 prior to his arrest. He said his attorney was later paid another $50,000 by Big Jook.

Asked by Hagerman how he felt after shooting Young Dolph, Smith said, “I wasn’t feeling nothing at the time. I’m not gonna lie. I was trying to get some money.”

Smith testified that his young son had died a few months before and he had started “popping pills and not caring about nothing.” His conscience started bothering him only later after he sobered up in jail, he said.

Jermarcus Johnson pleaded guilty in June 2023to three counts of serving as an accessory after the killing by helping Smith and Justin Johnson, his half-brother.

Jermarcus Johnson acknowledged helping the two shooting suspects communicate by cellphone while they were on the run from authorities and helping one of them communicate with his probation officer. Jermarcus Johnson has not been sentenced.

Hernandez Govan has pleaded not guilty to organizing the killing.

Young Dolph began his career by releasing numerous mixtapes, starting with 2008′s “Paper Route Campaign.” His multiple studio albums include his 2016 debut “King of Memphis.” He also collaborated on other mixtapes and albums with fellow rappers Key Glock, Megan Thee Stallion, T.I., Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz and others.

He had three albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200, with 2020′s “Rich Slave” peaking at No. 4.

(AP) — A man convicted of sending his 17-year-old son into a restaurant to rob and kill rapper PnB Rock was sentenced Monday to 31 years to life in prison.

Judge Connie Quinones handed down the sentence to Freddie Trone, 42, in Los Angeles County Superior Court. A jury on Aug. 7 found Trone guilty of one count of murder, two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Both sides at Trone’s trial agreed that the teen walked into Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles in September 2022 and shot the Philadelphia hip-hop star, whose legal name is Rakim Allen, while robbing him of his jewelry as he ate with the mother of his 4-year-old daughter.

The prosecution said he was acting on his father’s orders, while the defense, which plans to appeal, said Trone was only an accessory after the fact.

“I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Rakim Allen,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “His life was cut short by an act of violence that no family should have to endure.”

Trone’s attorney, Winston McKesson, said he disagreed with the judge. He said she declined at sentencing to give the reasons why his client was a “major participant” in the crime, as usually occurs.

He told The Associated Press after the sentencing there was no evidence that Trone was part of planning a killing, nor evidence he knew his son was armed. McKesson said a gun found with Allen was not sufficiently explained at trial, and the jury violated the judge’s instructions by doing its own investigating with the evidence, including slowing down video they were shown in real time. He plans to file a notice of appeal.

Deannea Allen, the rapper’s mother, traveled from their hometown of Philadelphia to give a statement in the Compton courtroom.

“I do not understand how a parent could directly put their child in danger. I just can’t comprehend it. That one action had a ripple effect, and it has ruined many lives,” Deannea Allen said, according to Rolling Stone. “Rakim was the shining light in our family. He was a star to us.”

Trone’s now-19-year-old son was also charged with murder but is in the custody of the juvenile system. A judge has found that he is not currently competent to stand trial.

The AP does not typically name minors who are accused of crimes.

PnB Rock was best known for his 2016 hit “Selfish” and for guest appearances on other artists’ songs such as YFN Lucci’s “Everyday We Lit” and Ed Sheeran’s “Cross Me” with Chance the Rapper. He was 30.
