Gor Mahia Are The 2023-24 FKF Premier League Champions

Gor Mahia have secured their record-extending 21st FKF Premier League title after thrashing relegation battling Muhoroni Youth 3-0 at the St Sebastian Park in Murang’a on Sunday.

The victory for K’Ogalo takes them to 67 points, opening an unassailable 11-point lead over second placed Tusker FC with three games to play.

Benson Omalla’s opening goal which moves him closer to the golden boot and two more from Boniface Omondi and Austin Odhiambo saw Gor secure the comfortable win to ease pressure on their shoulders heading to the tail end of the season.

Kevin ‘Saha’ Omondi, already assured of the Golden Glove, picked his 19th clean sheet of the season.

Chopper Carrying Iranian President Raisi And Other Officials Crashes

Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. State TV described the area of the incident happening as being near Jolfa, a city on the border with with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometres (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Raisi had been in Azerbaijan early Sunday to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. The dam is the third one that the two nations built on the Aras River.

Iran flies a variety of helicopters in the country, but international sanctions make it difficult to obtain parts for them. Its military air fleet also largely dates back to before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Raisi, 63, is a hard-liner who formerly led the country’s judiciary. He is viewed as a protégé of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and some analysts have suggested he could replace the 85-year-old leader after his death or resignation from the role.

State House: There’s No Issue Between Ruto And Gachagua

State House has dismissed reports of strained relations between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed who was responding to a question by one of the journalists during a press briefing on President William Ruto’s historic visit to the US said there was no issue between the two leaders.

The rumours have been fueled by the absence of the DP from key state functions.

Hussein said the office of the Deputy President has all the capabilities and competencies to respond to any questions regarding the second in command.

“There is no issue between the President and his Deputy. If you have a question or want to find anything about the DP, you can get the information from the Office of the Deputy President which has all the capabilities and competencies” he said.

This is not the first time such rumours are circulating. Last year, Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura termed similiar reports a “creation of the media” stating that the president and deputy are reading from the same script.

The DP on Sunday attended a church service at the Sacred Heart Endarasha Catholic Church, Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County.

President Ruto and the First Lady Mama Rachael will kick off their visit to the US on Monday.

“Tomorrow, President Ruto’s US visit will commence in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, then later visit the Ebenezer Baptist Church to pay homage to the civil rights struggle” said Hussein.

On Tuesday, in Atlanta, President Ruto will visit Spelman College, later go to Tyler Perry Studios to explore opportunities, and in the company of First Lady Rachel Ruto, attend a dinner hosted by the state’s mayor, Andre Dickens.

The culmination of the visit will be on Thursday, May 23, when the Kenyan leader will meet his host President Joe Biden.

“On Wednesday, President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto will travel to Washington, DC, where they will be officially received with full ceremonial state honors, later meet a congressional delegation, and hold discussions at Capital Hill” Hussein added.

  • Congolese Military Foils Attempted Coup

    Congolese Military Foils Attempted Coup

In a developing story, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) army successfully thwarted an attempted coup against President Felix Tshisekedi on Sunday morning.

The coup attempt, which was reportedly initiated by a group of about 20 assailants in army uniform, targeted the residence of Vital Kamerhe, a federal legislator and a candidate for speaker of the National Assembly of Congo. Kamerhe is a close ally to President Tshisekedi.

The armed men involved in the attack on Kamerhe’s house were identified as members of the New Zaire Movement, linked to formerly exiled politician Christian Malanga. This group, along with the foreign fighters, has been a cause of concern for the government and the security forces.

The attack resulted in the deaths of two guards and an assailant. The DRC army spokesperson, Brigadier General Sylvain Ekenge, announced on state-run broadcaster RTNC TV that several suspects have been detained and the “situation is now under control.”

This incident comes at a time of significant political instability and contested elections in the DRC. President Tshisekedi was reelected in December in a chaotic vote, with the opposition calling for a revote over what they saw as a lack of transparency.

    Who is Christian Malanga

Malanga, the 41-year-old is not new to coups, his name first came up in an alleged assassination attempt targeting former president Joseph Kabila.

Christian Malanga and his son at the National Palace during the foiled coup.

Kabila’s former head of military intel, according to Dino Mahtani, a researcher formerly with Crisis Group, General Delphin Kahimbi (now dead) had confided in him while working as a UN political officer in Kinshasa in January 2018 that he was tracking Malamba who he described as a former US military officer of Congolese origin, a native of Kwilu province.

According to the research, Kahimbi said that he had arrested Congolese conspirators in Kinshasa who were working for Malanga back in 2018. He said that Malanga had been in Kinshasa during this period, moving around in a UN decommissioned vehicle, but he escaped interdiction.

Kahimbi alleged that Malamba had arrived in Kinshasa by securing a place on a UN aircraft from Entebbe which then flew to Kinshasa. He then said that a former Congolese governor had paid Malamba $750,000 to kill Kabila.

Kahimbi also said that Malamba had been working alongside a former rebel called John Tshibangu, before he launched a failed rebellion in late 2017. Tshibangu had been arrested in Tanzania in January 2018, Kahimbi was the architect of his arrest.

During the 1998 – 2003 war in Congo Tshibangu was part of rebellions backed by Congo’s eastern neighbours. He then joined Kabila’s army before defecting in 2010. He then kept close to M23 rebels. After Kabila left, Tshisekedi released Tshibangu and made him an army commander.

Rumours have started circulating in recent weeks that Tshibangu was once again considering defecting, but there is no real evidence of this. Tshibangu is actually from Kasai, the same region as President Tshisekedi, but he has a strong political network in the rebel torn east.

The putschists appeared to be burnishing the flag of Zaire, which Kabila’s dad renamed DRCongo. Worth noting that Kahimbi had told me in 2018 that Malanga and Tshibangu were associating with former members of Mobutu’s army from the Equateur region who wanted to oust Kabila.

Under the surface there must be a whole load of stuff going on. At the time Kahimbi fingered Malanga in 2018, I was skeptical. It does seem Malanga is implicated today, but it is really not clear at all who is really behind this alleged coup.

  • The Hypocrisy Of African Union As Troubles For Refugees In Tunisia Deepens

The Hypocrisy Of African Union As Troubles For Refugees In Tunisia Deepens

    By Williams Steven

On May 10th, an X (formerly Twitter) account called “Refugees in Libya NGO” posted a harrowing video purportedly showing the manhunt and eviction of “Black” Africans which denotes Africans of Sub-Saharan descent. “In the last two weeks a door to door and street collection of any dark skinned persons even those identified as Tunisians are crammed into police vans & deported to the eastern border regions.

Women, men and children are caught and deported without any of their possessions, documents, savings and other materials they have worked for and accumulated over the years.

Most of those arrested during the house to house raids are legally entitled to stay in Tunisia, they are students, workers and refugees.” The account said.

“The African Union is silent while the so—called democratic European countries with their values for human rights are the very ones supporting and financing Kaïs Saeid to act as the border guard of the Fortress Europe. This must STOP” The account added.

The post garnered 3.5M views which immediately attracted sympathy for the refugees and criticism for various international bodies that are supposed to take care of refugees. “The violent anti-blackness in the Arab world needs to become a major talking point in political discourse. I hate how so many people are willing to ignore it in the hopes of withholding their delusional “POC” ideal. People are dying!!” X user Vuyiswa said.  “cc. African “truth accounts” on Twitter. Tunisia is committing pogroms on blacks. Will you cover this or continue talking about American segregation in the 1950s?” Christopher Haslett quipped.

The post also happened to attract white supremacist accounts who saw it fit to celebrate the misfortune of “Blacks” for reasons best known to them. Steve Laws, a failed politician and former “migrant hunter” activist from Kent, UK took the opportunity to decry how “Tunisians are finally doing it” which in this case is deportations. Klaus Arminius, who goes by “Independent Reporter Covering Stories The Media Doesn’t Show” byline but is a regular race baiter and rabble-rouser said “Tunisia is expelling millions of black immigrants, launching house to house manhunt.

Tunisia’s President accused the UN of trying to change the nation’s Berber-Arab demographic with black Africans. If Tunisia can deport millions of immigrants, why can’t the West? The difference is will power. Tunisian politicians want them gone; Western politicians want them to stay. NGOs and pro-open border groups are urging #EU countries to offer ‘free passage’ to sub-Saharan migrants expelled from Tunisia.”

The coverage and other earlier incidents received limited coverage but an earlier pogrom was reported by The New Humanitarian paper which decried the hostility and ill-treatment of the refugees. The pogroms are part of a concerted effort led by Tunisia’s president Kais Saied. Mr Saied continued his assertion that there was a plot to resettle these migrants in Tunisia, accusing some groups, without offering details, of obtaining millions of euros and dollars to carry out the plan.

He stated that he had read a document confirming that more than 20 million dinars ($6.4 million) had been allocated through unauthorized means to a single migrant center in the province of Sfax.

Ironically, Mr. Saied and his government received 105 million Euros from the EU for “border management”. The EU deal with Tunisia was harshly criticized by human rights observers and the EU was accused of “bankrolling dictators”. MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) also denounced the deal.

The Human Rights Foundation in a May 15th statement, condemned Saied’s “aggressive crackdown on dissidents speaking against the deportation and arrest of migrants and asylum seekers”.

Amnesty International had earlier decried Mr Saied statements by saying “President Saied must retract his comments and order investigations to clearly signal that anti-Black racist violence will not be tolerated. The president must stop finding scapegoats for Tunisia’s economic and political woes. The community of Black African migrants in Tunisia is now gripped by fear of assault or being arbitrarily arrested and summarily deported”.

The African Union has been woefully silent on the horrible treatment of migrants in Tunisia. No official statement has been issued so far and efforts by Kenya Insights to reach Ebba Kalondo, who is the “Spokesperson to the Chairperson” yielded no fruits as our emails were not answered by the time of publishing this piece.

We also tried to reach Esther Tankou Azaa Yambou who is the head of the Media and Information Division but our emails also went unanswered. Emails to the Directorate of Information and Communication were also un-replied by the time of publishing this piece.

A brief perusal of the social media pages of the African Union indicated no activity or concern about the situation in Tunisia. Suspension of Tunisia from the AU for its grave violation of human rights is suspiciously missing. Ironically. The African Union was quick to issue a statement about Israel’s pending military operation in Rafah. Ebba Kalondo was also particularly harsh on the Israeli delegation. “Have no clue, but I hope they know better than to attempt the thuggish behavior of their officials experienced at our last summit.” she is quoted as having said in reference to the Israeli accreditation saga in Addis Ababa.

Seeking refugee and asylum is a human right enshrined under the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol. Tunisia is a party to both. Failure to implement the Convention is an indictment on the Tunisian government and non-state bodies like the African Union. We hope for the best.

  • Boxing: Oleksandr Usyk Beats Tyson Fury To Become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

Boxing: Oleksandr Usyk Beats Tyson Fury To Become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

Tyson Fury suffered a split-decision points defeat on a dramatic night in Saudi Arabia as Oleksandr Usyk became boxing’s first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion.

On a grand stage and on a legacy-defining night, Briton Fury began well but was given a standing 10 count and saved by the bell after an Usyk onslaught in the ninth round.

In a tense wait for the scorecards to be read out, Fury appeared convinced of victory before a stoney-faced Usyk broke down in tears when he was confirmed as the winner.

The scorecards read 115-112 and 114-113 for the Ukrainian, with a third judge scoring it 114-113 to Fury.

It meant Fury, 35, lost for the first time in a 16-year professional career. He will get an immediate opportunity for revenge with a rematch planned for later this year.

“I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority,” a defiant Fury said in the ring.

“It was one of the daftest decisions in boxing. I’ll be back.”

Usyk takes the WBC belt from Fury, to add to his WBA, WBO and IBF collection.

The 37-year-old remains unbeaten and is the first boxer in almost 25 years to stand tall as the sport’s sole heavyweight world champion.

“Thank you so much to my team. It’s a big opportunity for my family, for me, for my country. It’s a great time, it’s a great day,” Usyk said.

“Yes, of course. I am ready for a rematch.”

    Usyk edges history-making fight

Usyk – a former undisputed cruiserweight world champion – prevailed in a fight of two halves at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena, propelling himself into the conversation to be considered an all-time great.

After a lack of buzz and noise in the arena for the undercard, not unusual for a Saudi card, a crowd of 20,000 that included famous faces such as Cristiano Ronaldo found their voice for the main event.

Usyk – resembling a warrior – made his entrance wearing a striking all-green traditional Ukrainian outfit, his eyes fixated on the ring.

In contrast to Usyk’s sternness, a playful Fury sang and danced to Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For A Hero.

He raced to the ring and headed straight to Usyk’s corner and goaded his opponent, to the enjoyment of 2,500 travelling British fans.

As the two champions advanced to the centre of the ring at the chime of the first bell, the painstakingly long wait to crown an undisputed champion was about to end.

A smiling and brazen Fury showboated his way through the first round. Even when Usyk landed a solid left hook and backed him into the corner, the Gypsy King dismissively laughed it off.

Fury responded with two painful-looking uppercuts to Usyk’s midriff in the second.

The height and reach advantage of Fury was posing too much of a puzzle for Usyk to solve, or so it seemed.

Usyk has been guilty of starting slowly in the past and was badly hurt by an uppercut in the sixth as the fight appeared to be slipping away.

But he spectacularly came back in an astonishing ninth round.

With Lennox Lewis, the division’s last undisputed champion in the three-belt era, and fellow former champions Larry Holmes and Evander Holyfield watching on from ringside, Usyk finally found his rhythm.

After a barrage of overhand lefts, a dazed Fury staggered around the ring – seemingly out on his feet – and into the ropes.

He was given a 10 count before the bell rang as the momentum suddenly swung in Usyk’s favour.

This was not the boring, tactical, chess-like match-up some pundits predicted but a barnstormer, living up to the pre-fight hype from fans and promoters.

Another bruising left hand caught Fury in the 11th. The pair touched gloves before the 12th – there was a feeling there was still all to play for.

But it was a spirited Usyk who may have just edged a competitive final round, and ultimately perhaps that got him across the winning line.

Usyk’s unshakable will prevails against a fit Fury

October’s lacklustre performance against debutant Francis Ngannou left many wondering if Fury’s best days were behind him.

But he was a conditioned and fit competitor here, and any suggestion of his demise were quashed when he controlled early parts of a close encounter.

His chance of becoming an undisputed champion, however, may not come again soon.

A rematch is in the works for October but it is unlikely to be for all four belts – the IBF plan to strip Usyk as he will not be facing their mandatory challenger next.

“We’ll go back, rest up. I believe I won the fight but I’m not going to sit and cry and make excuses. We’ll run it again,” Fury added.

Fury may be licking his wounds behind closed doors when the dust settles as Usyk’s unshakable will to win and mental toughness prevailed in the Middle East.

The heavyweight world title is considered by boxing lovers as the greatest, most coveted, prize in sport, and the Crimea-born fighter left the ring draped in all four belts across his 6ft 3in frame.

Usyk, who competed as a middleweight as an amateur, showed that size does not always matter.

  • Twitter Domain Is Officially Retired And Now Redirects To ‘X’

Twitter Domain Is Officially Retired And Now Redirects To ‘X’

After months of anticipation and a somewhat chaotic transition, the social network formerly known as Twitter has officially adopted X.com as its primary domain. Typing “twitter.com” in your browser will now redirect to Elon Musk’s favoured domain, though some users are still experiencing mixed results depending on their browser and login status.

A message at the bottom of the X login page assures users that their privacy and data protection settings remain unchanged despite the URL shift. This move marks the culmination of a rebranding effort initiated by Musk, who envisions X as an “everything app” similar to China’s WeChat.

While many aspects of the platform, including its official account, mobile apps, and subscription service, transitioned to the “X” branding long ago, the lingering “twitter.com” URLs have been a source of confusion and a vulnerability for phishing attacks.

The transition to X.com is not without historical significance for Musk. He launched a financial services company under the x.com name in 1999, which eventually merged to form PayPal.

This latest iteration of X, however, is intended to encompass a broader range of services, including messaging, payments, and other functionalities beyond traditional social media.

The transition has been a source of amusement and frustration for users, with some pointing out the irony of the company’s original name returning to prominence. Whether X will ultimately succeed in its ambition to be an “everything app” remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the era of Twitter is officially over.

  • US Lawmakers Accuse House Speaker Of Disrespecting Africa By Denying Ruto Address To Congress

US Lawmakers Accuse House Speaker Of Disrespecting Africa By Denying Ruto Address To Congress

Lawmakers from President Joe Biden’s Democratic Party on Friday accused House Speaker Mike Johnson of disrespecting Africa after he did not invite President William Ruto to address Congress during an upcoming Washington visit.

Biden has invited the key US regional ally next week for a state visit – the most prestigious trip a foreign leader can pay to Washington, which includes a ceremonial welcome and formal dinner at the White House.

Leaders on state visits often also address joint sessions of Congress, but Johnson, a Republican, brushed aside an appeal for an invitation to Ruto made by both the top Democrat and Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

In a letter to Johnson, 14 House Democrats told Johnson they were “extremely disappointed” by the decision and said, “The people of Kenya deserve more respect.”

“Foreign adversaries like China, Russia and Iran are working tirelessly to subvert America’s alliances, particularly in Africa,” wrote the lawmakers including Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“Your choice not to provide the Kenyan president, a key African partner, the opportunity to address the Congress helps create an opening for autocratic adversaries to make inroads in African public opinion.”

Four foreign leaders have addressed joint sessions of the current Congress, in which the Republicans control the House – the prime ministers of India and Japan and the presidents of Israel and South Korea.

“Failing to offer the same invitation to President Ruto risks sending the message that African partnerships are less valued by Congress,” the Democratic lawmakers wrote.

The state visit comes as the US election season enters full swing, with many lawmakers occupied by campaigning.

  • EACC, ODPP On The Spot Over Delayed Arraignment Of Taita Taveta County Clerk Maganga For Plea Taking In Sh17M Fraud

EACC, ODPP On The Spot Over Delayed Arraignment Of Taita Taveta County Clerk Maganga For Plea Taking In Sh17M Fraud

A group of residents of Taita Taveta County have written to the EACC and Chief Justice Martha Koome seeking answers in what they term as selective prosecution in the fight against corruption.

They’re questioning why the County Assembly Clerk Gadiel Maganga has not taken plea despite having been arrested.

    Arrest

In April 26, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives had arrested Maganga in connection with graft.

He was accused of fraudulent expenditure related to a bonding trip undertaken by 21 MCAs to Zanzibar in 2022.

Maganga’s arrest followed the dismissal of his case by the High Court in Voi, where he sought to halt EACC and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from pursuing his arrest and prosecution.

The Commission’s investigation uncovered that a total of Sh 17 million was spent on the trip, with Sh 9 million paid directly to organizers for logistics and Sh 8 million disbursed as imprest to 30 officials, including the 21 MCAs.

“The County Assembly used forged documents to account for the fraudulent expenditure,” EACC alleged.

According to EACC the MCA’s were overpaid while some of those who received allowances did not take part in the trip.

Here’s a copy of the letter emailed to Kenya Insights:

    NELSON INGONGA
    DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTION,
ODPP HOUSE, RAGATI ROAD, UPPER HILL,
    P.O. BOX 30701-00100.
    NAIROBI

    Dear Sirs/Madam,

    RE: COMPLIMENT AND COMPLAINT LETTER

On behalf of the people of Taita Taveta County, we take this opportunity to congratulate EACC for exhibiting professionalism in the conduct of investigations into the alleged malfeasance by the County Assembly of Taita Taveta, investigations which revealed misappropriation and loss of public funds to the tune of Kenya Shillings Seventeen Million (Kshs 17,000,000/=) meant for the development of Taita Taveta County.

It was equally reassuring when EACC took bold action to recover Kenya Shillings Five Million and Six Hundred Thousand (Kshs 5,600,000 /=) of the Kenya Shillings Six Million and Two Hundred Thousand (Kshs 6,200,000 /=) irregularly paid to the 30 County officials as daily subsistence allowance for the bonding trip.

We were delighted and encouraged that the people of Taita Taveta would finally be on course to receive justice after years of allegations and reports of embezzlement of public funds when EACC together with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions concurred that charges of abuse of office, uttering false documents, false accounting by a public officer, wilful failure to comply with the law, regulations and guidelines relating to procurement, and financial misconduct be preferred against the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Anselm Chao Mwadime and the Clerk to the Assembly CPA Gadiel Mnyambo Maghanga.

Through EACC’s efforts, the Deputy Speaker was arrested, arraigned in court and charged
in MOMBASA MCAC NO. E004 OF 2024, REPUBLIC -VS- ANSELIM CHAO; he
took plea on 26th February 2024 and was released on a Kenya Shillings One Million (Kshs1,000,000/=) bond with similar surety or an alternative cash bail of Kenya Shillings Five Hundred Thousand (Kshs 500,000/=).

The People of Taita Taveta are grateful on how EACC handled its constitutional mandate, it arrested the Clerk of Taita Taveta County Assembly CPA Gadiel Maganga and presented
him to court to take plea; it did not relent when he filed a case at the Voi High Court and obtained Orders to stop it and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution from pursuing his arrest and prosecution. It swiftly arrested him when the orders were discharged and charged him in MOMBASA MCAC NO. E007 OF 2024 REPUBLIC -VS- GADIEL
    MAGANGA AND ANSELIM MWADIME.

What is appalling and bizarre is that to date, CPA GADIEL MAGANGA HAS NOT TAKEN PLEA! He appeared before Honourable Alex Ithuku on 12th March 2024 for plea taking but the same was deferred to 8th April 2024 then deferred further to 29th April 2024, 13th May 2024 and 10th June 2024.

This then begs the following questions:

    1. Is the criminal justice system being compromised?
    2. Are there any schemes and plans being hatched to scuttle the process and therefore deny the people of Taita Taveta justice?
    3. Is the Clerk to the County Assembly above the law?
    4. Is the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution dragging its feet and considering recalling the file and subsequently drop the charges?
    5. Who is protecting the Clerk of the County Assembly of Taita Taveta and to what benefit?
    6. Are some EACC officials working in cahoots with the ODPP and Judiciary to undermine justice?
    7. The Deputy Speaker already took plea, what is it that is stopping the Clerk from taking plea?

We wish to state as follows:

    1. That we are driven by the desire to seek justice for the people of Taita Taveta who are outraged and desirous to know when the clerk will take plea.
    2. That failure by the ODPP and the judiciary to take any action against the Clerk of the Assembly is an endorsement of impunity.
    3. The inaction by the ODPP and judiciary will severely erode the confidence the public has in those institutions.
    4. That there is public outcry on the issue and the failure by the DPP will force us to commence private prosecution against the clerk.
    5. That people of Taita Taveta will not relent in their struggle to seek justice.
    6. People of Taita Taveta will picket and organise public demonstrations against the
      Judiciary and the ODPP.
    7. People of Taita Taveta will seek the involvement of all the relevant bodies including petitioning the Senate, writing to the President, the Office of the Ombudsman, The Law society of Kenya, Judicial Service Commission etc.

It is our expectation that the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and the judiciary will appreciate the urgency of this matter, place a premium on the reputation of their institutions, uphold the integrity of the criminal justice system, and apply its expertise, knowledge, and wisdom of the Kenya laws in making the determination and orders required to advance the cause of justice and the rule of law as formulated in the issues that are now before you.

Wife of Nigerian Rapper MohBad Blames His Father for Failed Autopsy

Mohbad’s widow Omowunmi Aloba has accused Joseph Aloba, her deceased husband’s father, of being accountable for the failure of an autopsy test that was unable to determine the precise cause of the musician’s death, Western media reported on Thursday.

Earlier, Wahab Shittu, the legal representative for MohBad’s family, reportedly said that pathologist Sunday Osiyemi claimed that the exact cause of the singer’s death could not be determined. One of the reasons behind it was the fact that 21 days had passed before the autopsy, and by that time the body had already started to decompose.

According to the report, Aloba was devastated by the medical expert’s verdict and lamented her father-in-law’s decision to bury her husband too quickly, despite her requests and those of her relatives to delay the funeral to establish the cause of MohBad’s death.

“I have been sad. I have been heartbroken since yesterday when I got the news on what the pathologist said about the autopsy of my husband. […] He [Aloba’s father-in-law] buried my husband hurriedly,” she was quoted as saying.

Had MohBad not been buried so quickly, “the autopsy would have been done, and I would have known everything that happened to my husband,” she reportedly added.

MohBad was a popular rapper. In 2021, he was listed in Audiomack’s top 21 Afrobeat artists. His song “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” with Nigerian songwriter Rexxie was nominated three times for The Headies awards 2022, a local hip-hop music awards. Last September, he ranked number one on the Official Artiste Top 100 of Nigerian music and entertainment magazine TurnTable.

Video Emerges Of Diddy Beating Ex-Girlfriend Cassie

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was caught on camera beating, dragging and hurling an object at his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2016.

The scandal-hit rapper, 54, who was hit with allegations including physical abuse by singer Cassie, 37, in a November 2023 lawsuit, is seen launching the brutal attack in surveillance footage taken from a Los Angeles hotel hallway.

It was obtained by CNN, which said the altercation occurred at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, California, on March 5, 2016.

The outlet reported: “The footage, compiled from multiple camera angles dated March 5, 2016, appears to show the rapper, producer and business mogul during an incident that, according to Ventura’s complaint, occurred at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.

“CNN verified the location based on publicly available photos of the former hotel’s interior.

“In the video, Ventura exits a hotel room and walks to a bank of elevators. Combs, holding a towel around his waist, runs down a hall after Ventura.

“He grabs her by the back of the neck and throws her to the floor. Still holding his towel closed with one hand, he then turns to kick her, the video shows.

“As Ventura is on the ground, Combs retrieves a purse and suitcase from the floor near the elevators.

“He turns around and kicks Ventura again as she lies motionless on the floor. About four seconds transpire between the two kicks, according to the video.

“He then briefly drags Ventura by her sweatshirt toward a room before walking away.

“Ventura is then seen slowly standing up. She gathers items from the floor and moves to pick up a phone on the hallway wall near the elevators.

“Combs, still in a towel and socks, returns. A mirror directly across from the security camera shows Combs appearing to shove Ventura.

“Seconds later, he sits down on a chair, grabs an object off a table and forcefully throws it toward Ventura.

“Combs is seen walking away, then turns toward Ventura once again when an elevator door opens and someone appears to exit.”

Cassie, who reached an undisclosed settlement with Combs after making allegations of abuse against him in 2023, declined to comment on the video obtained by CNN.

Her attorney Douglas H Wigdor, told the outlet: “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behaviour of Mr Combs. “Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”

Cassie reached an undisclosed settlement with Combs shortly after she filed her suit last year and described the hotel altercation in the complaint.

According to the filing, while the two were inside the hotel room, Combs became “extremely intoxicated and punched Ms Ventura in the face, giving her a black eye”.

It added after he fell asleep, she attempted to leave the room, but he woke up and “followed her into the hallway of the hotel while yelling at her”.

It goes on to allege: “He grabbed at her and then took glass vases in the hallway and threw them at her, causing glass to crash around them as she ran to the elevator to escape.”

According to the complaint, Cassie eventually managed to get in the elevator, leave the hotel and call a cab, which took her to her apartment.

Cassie’s suit alleged Combs had paid the InterContinental $50,000 for the security footage from the incident.

Two days later, the pair – who dated on and off from 2007 to 2018 – were photographed together at the LA premiere of ‘A Perfect Match’.

Ben Brafman, an attorney for Combs, said in a statement on the day Cassie’s 2023 suit was filed: “Mr Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations.”

Since November, Combs has faced five other civil lawsuits accusing him of a range of sexual misconduct and other illegal activity.

He has denied the allegations, and the cases are still active.

  • Gunshots, Several Injured In Thika After Political Factions Clash

Gunshots, Several Injured In Thika After Political Factions Clash

Several people have been injured after two factions clashed over a market project in Thika.

Supporters of Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Kamenu ward MCA Peter Mburu faced off over the construction of the Kiganjo market within Kamenu ward with both leaders claiming credit of the project.

Ng’ang’a who had led other MPs including National Assembly Majoriy Leader Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South), Elijah Njoroge (Gatundu North and Ngoliba ward MCA Joachim Njama in launching the market, said that the National government has set aside sh 55 million for the project.

She said that the project was a promise by President William Ruto to Kiganjo residents that his administration would put up a decent facility for them to trade in.

Ng’ang’a accused the Kiambu County Government led by Governor Kimani Wamatangi of trying to hijack the project and claim the credit adding that earlier some hired goons had threatened to disrupt her meeting.

However, hell broke loose when Ng’ang’a led fellow MPs to officially ground break the project.

They found the MCA holding a meeting at the land parcel where the market is being built and his supporters had already subdivided the parcel and started putting up structures.

A confrontation ensued between supporters of the two factions. Supporters of the MCA started hurling stones to the MPs and Ng’ang’a’s supporters forcing police officers to throw teargas and fire in the air.

An aide to Ng’ang’a was rushed to hospital with serious wounds on his head after being hit with a stone.

On Thursday, the Kamenu Ward MCA spearheaded slots allocation to traders insisting that the market will be built by the local government to end trader’s woes.

Mburu called out unnecessary competition between the national and county government on construction of markets saying the function is a constitutional mandate of devolved units.

He said the project will open up the area after years of remaining behind on matters infrastructural development.

Earlier, Ichung’wa said that the market projects within Kiambu County are fully funded by the National Government with an aim of giving traders a conducive environment to work in and improve the region’s economy.

He also rallied Kenyans to pay taxes for the sake of country’s economic growth noting that the National Assembly will put into consideration issues that are of national good while discussing and voting for the 2024/2025 financial budget.

  • Insider Letter Exposes Shocking Details Of Corruption, Fraud, And Mismanagement At GDC

Insider Letter Exposes Shocking Details Of Corruption, Fraud, And Mismanagement At GDC

An insider has blown the whistle on the Geothermal Development Company (GDC), exposing an intricate web of corruption, fraud, and mismanagement that has plagued the organization under the leadership of CEO Paul Ngugi.

In the letter copied to Kenya Insights, the allegations range from fraudulent procurement practices to mismanagement of staff pension schemes, and from CEO’s balance scorecard failures to questionable staff management practices. Below is a copy of the report against the company.

    1. Fraudulent Procurement of Goods and Services.

Geothermal Development Company is in a web of procurement  of substandard Scientific Equipment, Drilling Equipment and Materials just to mention but a few. Under the Leadership of Proclaimed Rogue CEO Paul Ngugi who robbed the GDC Staff Pension Funds, now all Procurements inclusive the low value Procurements have to go through his office for approval. We have had many tenders cancelled anytime the Tender evaluation committee fails to adhere to his office directives.

In recent days. The Company has had to procure and pay his cronies products that did not meet the user acceptance specifications.

Elab Chemicals Ltd located in Thika supplied Drilling Detergent 1st Tranche valued over 60 million, facilitation of the Payment was expedited by the Ag GM Drilling Operations Reuben Ngosi following the Directives of the CEO.

The said Detergents failed the Laboratory testing results (See Attached below) This led to instability of well 2C Sunk in Paka now fearing for its collapse despite fishing expeditions that has cost the Well over KES 1 billion having drilled 2200M with a Target depth of 3,000M.

Mountain Investment Ltd recently supplied substandard water Distillers at an exaggerated price of over KES 1 million,  over 60 substandard faulty Gas flasks. All this failing at the inspection committee but paid altogether.

We are calling for Sanctions of an Incompetent Drilling Department that has further lost an additional more than 400 million in Drilling downtime in the Current Financial year.

The GM Drilling Operations has been behind controversial tenders that have led to loss of Funds for the Organization. Recently a Supplier sought clarity if Three Officers from the Tender evaluation had been sent by the CEO when it turned out they were working for Reuben Ngosi yet part of the Kickback had already been delivered to the Office of the CEO.

Our Cry is the Organization is losing Funds and we seek the office of the EACC to undertake a Lifestyle Audit of the Senior Management at GDC. Today the Drilling Department is openly rejecting all external jobs  currently, including one from Baker Hughes as the Company Rig equipments have been canibalised to a shell.

    2. Management of Staff Pension Scheme

Geothermal Development Company Staff Retirement benefits scheme changed Administrator services over 2yrs ago. The remainder term of the New Administrator  is less than 8 months yet historical member data has never been shared. From the Trustees Boardroom desk, the elephant in the room is complex.

There seems to be a syndicate that involves the regulator RBA. Any staff or member who raises a voice faces the wrath of Paul Ngugi. We are currently campaigning to make replacements of the Trustees but the Interference from The Sponsor who happens to be also a Trustee of the Board is at another level.

The Sponsor nominated Trustees Irene Moinkett whose two terms have lapsed after joining the Board on 1st May 2018 (See attached Annex 2 and 3) which indicated her unapproved foreign trip. Irene has vehemently refused to leave office under the Protection of the Sponsor all in a bid to cover up for her Masters.  Currently Paul is marshaling to have his cronies elected in the Board to Continuously cover up the rot at the Pension scheme.

Following whistle blowing by members on Procurement of Scheme service Providers  Interference to PPRA. Trustees were sanctioned. Unfortunately the Trust Secretary who refuses to leave office together with her Chairman Peter Kariuki working on directives of the former Chairman now CEO Paul Ngugi discarded all the Procurement Documents in a bid to cover up for malpractices. Our Cry to RBA has gone to deaf ears due to their involvement in cover-up and failure to act on all material matters raised.

    3. CEO’s Balance Scorecard

The CEO has failed the Company and Kenyans terribly in his first year in office. The CEO scorecard targets to deliver 22Mwe through Drilling of 6 wells. The company has only realized 2Mwe in the current Financial year (Less than 10% target).

The recent Geothermal Advisory Board (GAB) calling out the Company Drilling Operations for being Jua-Kali Ops and not in any way certified to carry out the job at hand. The GAB report further certifies Menengai Steam Outputs declining and therefore no sufficient Power for Three Power plants. Geothermal Resource Management staff are now demotivated and have reported Sosian Power plant as inefficient and wasting Steam which Management seems hell bent on calling them out.

The recent Advisory report highlights Weak Project Costings in the organization with Under reporting of the real actual cost of our wells and extremely Weak Project structures. To cover this up Paul Ngugi has been marshalling a swipe of Geothermal Resource Management and Strategy Research and Innovation General Managers all in bid to cover up their individual incompetencies.

Power plant Operations have no Staff, tools and Critical spares. The current management style of Paul Ngugi and General Manager GRD Cornel Otieno Ofwona is to have breakdowns so that they can benefit from Emergency Procurements together with Penalty kickbacks.

    4. Staff Management

Paul Ngugi has surrounded himself with a cabal of women whom staff refer to as Devils. The Devils have failed to deliver the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) nor the HR instruments for him. (See Attached Annex 4) We believe the Women have a spell on him. One Year since Paul Ngugi came into office he has failed to hold an EXCOM meeting since he fears to be accountable.

Failure to deliver a CBA has caused sneers and jitters within the organization leading to an accelerated staff turnover as the Organization. Top cream in the most Critical Department of Geothermal Resource Assessment (GRA) are leaving.GRA is run by a Non Geologist who has been touting of Paka field as having an excess of 100Mwe.

Recent findings indicate the field has less than 70Mwe and the Power plant has to be scaled down drastically, and GDC financial viability now seems not as rosy. Whereas that Korosi field drilled Wells producing a Big fat ZERO steam output. There is a major outcry with Staff having been in the same Job description for over a decade.

However, to his Darling Girlfriend Rose Wangechi Muhia who has been on maternity leave  half of her working life, things are exquisitely awesome where  she remote controls Paul Ngugi through her curvaceous body; making Paul deliver a board paper ready to make Rose Muhia, a full legal manager. We are now asking How? Whenever the Lady is not on Maternity, she is Full time traveling twice abroad with Paul Ngugi and once with the Board and having risen from Job Group 8 Unionizable to an Acting Manager Job Group 3. With a Proposal to make her full Manager JD2 without Interviews. Where on earth did we go wrong?

Paul Ngugi is now aloof and isolated with his Board, Staff, The Union,  Executive Management (EXCOM),  Managers, and The Ministry are all fed-up with his indecisiveness. With Staff asking “Why can’t Paul take an early retirement if he cannot do the job? Why waste the organisation’s resources by not doing the job that he is paid to do? While Presiding over the development of unrealistic strategy documents that call for KSH 20B budget per annum.”

We are in Limbo since KfW financing for 2024-25 Financial year has not been approved  yet the budget is soon to be read.

Sh35M Frozen In EIS Afrika Group Accounts Over Money Laundering

Milimani High Court Judge has given Assets recovery agency Green light to freeze Ksh 35 million held in bank accounts belonging to a company run by foreigners in Kenya following allegations  of money laundering.

Justice Nixon Sifuna said EIS Afrika Group Limited and its directors shall not transact, withdraw or in any manner deal with funds held at I&M Bank account.

The Judge said the said preservation orders shall be in force for ninety days from today.

The orders were issued following an application by the Assets Recovery Agency that claimed the directors of the company were using the company as an avenue for money laundering.

The agency told the court that on March 1 they received information into suspected money laundering schemes and proceeds of crime perpetrated by the firm.

An analysis of the bank statement established that the firm received  suspicious US dollars 350,000 dollars from foreign jurisdiction in a scheme of money laundering’

The company allegedly withdrew some of the cash before the Agency could obtain the freezing

According to the Agency,  there are reasonable grounds and evidence demonstrating that the funds held by the Company in the specified bank account are direct or indirect benefits, or proceeds of crime obtained from money laundering.

  • Divorce: A Customary Marriage That Has Not Been Registered Is Not Legally Binding, Court Rules

Divorce: A Customary Marriage That Has Not Been Registered Is Not Legally Binding, Court Rules

A Machakos woman who had sought divorce accusing her husband of denying her conjugal rights for five years and threatening to kill her has suffered a major blow after a court declined to dissolve the customary marriage.

In a landmark judgement rendered by Magistrate Charles Ondieki rejected a plea by the woman (name withheld) on grounds that a customary marriage that has not been registered is not a marriage to be dissolved.

Ondieki found that all parties to a customary marriage who have not registered their marriages with effect from August 1, 2020 when the Marriage Act 2014 took effect can only petition the court for annulment and not divorce.

A customary marriage that is not registered with the Registrar of Marriages cannot be annulled through divorce process in court.

In legal terms, a divorce holds that the spouses were previously married but chose to legally separate while an annulment, however, legally determines the marriage was never valid.

    Customary rites

Ondieki declined to dissolve the marriage of the Machakos couple noting that although the woman and the husband admitted that they were married in accordance with the customary rites of the kamba community, by force of Section 12(e) of the Marriage Act, 2014, it follows that the purported marriage was rendered voidable effective August 1, 2020.

Ondieki ruled that although all marriages enjoy the same legal status, unions contracted under customary law and are not registered with the Registrar of Marriages as required by the Act, cannot be dissolved by court.

The magistrate explained that Section 96 of the Marriage Act, 2014 requires parties to a marriage contracted under customary law before commencement of the Act to apply to the Registrar for registration of their marriage.

He also noted that failure to show a marriage certificate meant that they could not prove their marriage. “Turning to the evidence adduced by both parties, this court finds that neither the petitioner nor the respondent, exhibited the documentary evidence contemplated by section 59 of the Marriage Act, 2014,”

Ondieki stated Further, the court held that with effect from August 1,2020, having been rendered voidable, the Machakos Couple were deprived of the right to Petition or Cross Petition for divorce (dissolution of the purported marriage).

“Having failed to surmount the test of sections 59 read with sections 3, 12(e), and 96 (2) & (3) of the Marriage Act, 2014, leads this Court, that neither the Petitioner nor the Respondent has generated persuasion in my mind that the subject marriage is neither void or voidable, as to entitle any of them to petition for divorce. This court so concludes,” Ondieki stated.

According to the magistrate, the grounds for divorce of a marriage are a world apart from the grounds for nullification adding that nullification of marriage is completely absent in both the Petition and Cross-Petition lodged by the couple.

The court’s decision comes after a Machakos woman on June 8,2023 filed a divorce petition in court seeking the customary marriage between her and her husband be dissolved.

The woman known as EMM sought for a divorce claiming that she contracted a marriage with the husband in June 1987, in accordance with the Kamba Customary Law on marriage, within Machakos County.

She averred that they lived as husband and wife after the said celebration at their matrimonial home at Katelembo until December 2018.

  • Kiambu Politics: Kimani Ichung’wa On The Spot Over Skewed Allocation Of Development Funds

Kiambu Politics: Kimani Ichung’wa On The Spot Over Skewed Allocation Of Development Funds

Even as deputy president Rigathi Gachagua tries to unite Kiambu county leaders, their differences are growing daily over skewed allocation of development funds.

And on the spotlight is Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa who stands accused of using his position as national assembly majority leader to favour his constituency in allocation of national government’s development kitty.

Ichung’wa is also being accused by Governor Kimani Wamatangi of using his position and closeness to William Ruto to fight other leaders.

The Kikuyu MP is said to harbour gubernatorial ambitions in the 2027 general election.

Last week, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba raised the issue of skewed national government development agenda when she challenged Ichung’wa to explain why his constituency got the lion’s share of the money allocated for roads.

The combative MP wondered whether the resource allocation formula was fair given that her constituency, which has over 104,000 registered voters got less than Ichungwa’s Kikuyu which has 98,000 voters for constructing and maintenance of roads.

The MP referred to Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) 2023 tender notice where Kikuyu got Sh1,456,000,000 which is about 94.4pc out of the Kiambu county’s share of Sh1,541,890,000 from the national kitty.

She said the other 11 constituencies are to share 5.6pc of the funds.

    Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba
    Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba

The Githunguri lawmaker stated that KeRRA allocated Kikuyu 63pc of the total amount, which translates to Sh220 million out of the total Sh350 million allocated to all Kiambu’s 12 constituencies.

“Whereas I appreciate Kikuyu getting some development, we should be fair in the sharing. If we are rewarding number of votes, I think Githunguri had more loyalty voters than Kikuyu by over 6,000 whom Ruto should reward.

“No wonder some politicians have consistently frustrated our push for one man, one shilling policy so as to use their privileges over others,” the MP who referred to herself as Nyakang’a wa Githunguri said.

Last weekend, Gachagua was in Kiambu where he asked political leaders to concentrate on service delivery and desist from spreading propaganda and idle talk.

The deputy president also called on politicians from Kiambu county, to tone down on high octane politics and leadership wrangles and focus on working for their people.

Speaking at ACK St Mark’s New Kamiti Parish, in Kiambu Town constituency, Gachagua said leaders should focus on social and economic development instead of engaging in endless politicking.

“The president and I, are focused on the job. The other leaders should focus on their jobs and service delivery too. The country needs us and citizens have great expectations. Let all leaders focus on service delivery, that is what Kenyans expect from us,” he said.

“Some of us have no time for petty politics, we are busy people with a lot of work to do. We have no time to listen to nonsense, theatrics and drama. We want to focus on the job that we were given by Kenyans,” he added.

Gachagua spoke amid heightened political talk and activities across the political divide over the 2027 elections and declaration of political ambitions.

On Kiambu politics, the deputy president asked leaders to unite and work together, adding that he will soon convene a meeting to address their differences.

“It pains me a lot to see leaders tearing each other apart. I appeal to the leaders to work together for the development of the county. Kiambu is important to Ruto and I, as it gave us a lot of votes in 2022. I will convene a meeting to find a lasting solution on any squabbles. Please tone down on the high-octane politics,” he stated.

The deputy president spoke after a section of the county leaders engaged in an exchange of words at the event over the leadership of the devolved unit and gubernatorial aspirations.

The fundraiser, overseen by Humphrey Waweru, sought to raise Sh20 million for the completion of the church’s construction.

During the service, Gachagua commended the church for its positive influence on society.

Gachagua was accompanied by Kiambu governor Ichung’wa, Kimani Wamatangi, Juja MP George Koimburi, Kabete MP Githua Wamacukuru and Kiambu senator Karungo Thangwa, among other leaders.

Wamatangi stressed the need for integrated unity for the sake of development and rallied all leaders to support Gachagua’s unity efforts.

“We recognise Gachagua as our leader, we don’t have any other deputy president. Mt Kenya region will collaborate harmoniously to support Gachagua’s initiatives,” Wamatangi affirmed.

Ichung’wa pledged support for Gachagua and the president in implementing UDA’s manifesto.

He also urged Wamatangi to be accountable for public resources, citing concerns raised by the Auditor General regarding accountability in Kiambu.

Senator Thangwa echoed Ichungwa’s sentiments and urged MCAs to exercise their oversight roles and fulfill their mandates.

He expressed support for Gachagua as a unifying force particularly in Kiambu county and the whole of Mt Kenya region.

Koimburi expressed strong support for Gachagua’s development initiatives in the Mt Kenya region, highlighting the region’s appreciation for the deputy president’s efforts.

Embakasi North MP James Gakuya warned against Mt Kenya MPs being manipulated to oppose the deputy president.

Gakuya specifically addressed Mathioya MP Edwin Mugo’s actions during Gachagua’s visit to his constituency, stressing the need to respect Gachagua’s position.

Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a echoed the sentiments and expressed unwavering support for Gachagua as the region’s kingpin.

Later the DP visited Stephen Ndung’u, a retired councilor in Tiekunu, Ndeiya Limuru constituency who mentored him.

  • EU probes Meta’s Role In Making Facebook, Instagram Addictive For Children

EU probes Meta’s Role In Making Facebook, Instagram Addictive For Children

The European Commission is formally investigating Meta to establish whether the design and algorithms used by Instagram and Facebook are addictive for children, regulators announced Thursday.

The investigation comes under the auspices of the Digital Services Act, a law passed in 2022 that requires online platforms to have strict child safety measures. In a statement, the Commission said Meta’s products may “exploit the weakness and inexperience of minors,” and that their apps’ algorithms create “rabbit-hole effects.”

The Commission also questioned the effectiveness of the apps’ age verification tools, and minors’ privacy on the apps. If found in violation of the DSA, Meta could face a fine of up to 6% of its global revenue, and be forced to make major changes to the apps if it wants to keep doing business in the EU.

The investigation mirrors allegations in lawsuits against Meta in the United States: To date, 41 states and Washington, DC have sued the company, alleging Meta knowingly made both Instagram’s and Facebook’s designs and algorithms addictive and did not do enough to safeguard children on the platforms.

  • Are You Homosexuals? MP Kaluma Questions Stanbic Bank Boss Joshua Oigara Gifting Maina Kageni

Are You Homosexuals? MP Kaluma Questions Stanbic Bank Boss Joshua Oigara Gifting Maina Kageni

Homabay MP Peter Kaluma and a leading anti-LGBTQ campaigner in parliament has questioned the sexual orientation of media personality Maina Kageni and Stanbic Bank CEO Joshua Oigara.

Kaluma was reacting to a suggestive photo that Maina had posted posing with Joshua who had gifted him the bank’s hamper.

“Sometimes it’s the unexpected acts of kindness that touch us the most. I’m blown away by the beautiful gifts and heartfelt thanks I received from Mr. Joshua Oigara and the team at Stanbic Bank. I’m humbled by your generosity and friendship. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!” Maina wrote.

This appears to be part of a Stanbic Bank’s marketing campaign. However, the MP could appear unconvinced, “are you guys homosexuals?” He posed.

But it was not just the MP who had a similar reaction. Curious comments came under Maina’s post on X.

    The photo.

“This is the most awkward gifting posture I have ever seen.” Josh Tety commented.

“Remember both of them are not married ? This is a clear sign.” wrote Kibet.

“Y’all look amazing together❤” Josh reacted.

“Haiya…what is this now…that pose yawa.” Pius Kinuthia reacted.

“Looks like a couple.” Rodgers Kipembe said.

    Peter Kaluma’s Anti-LGBTQ Bill

Last year, Kaluma submitted the Family Protection Bill to the National Assembly.

The new bill proposed a ban on homosexuality, same-sex marriages and any hint of LGBTQ behaviour in the country. It also prohibits the promotion of LGBTQ in the country by clumping down on its promoters and funding by various groups.

The bill if passed will uphold the prior rights of parents and guardians to their children’s education.

It will reassert the rights of parents to be informed and to consent to sexuality education, and abortion procedures involving their children.

    Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma.
    Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma.

According to Kaluma, the bill defines sex as the biological state of being male or female observed and assigned at birth.

The MP also wants the state to limit rights to assembly, demonstration, association, expression, belief, privacy, and employment in childcare institutions in respect of homosexual convicts.

The bill further prohibits adoption by homosexuals and proscribes sex acts on animals.

The legislator said the bill if passed will have the penalty imposed under the proposed Act ranges from the imprisonment of at least 10 years to death.

Kaluma has since maintained that homosexuals should be punished because it is illegal in Kenya.

  • Is It True That Kenyan Sportsmen And Sportswomen Are Neglected?

Is It True That Kenyan Sportsmen And Sportswomen Are Neglected?

    By Michael Mundia Kamau

I refer to story published on page 2 of the “Sunday Nation” of 12th May 2024, titled “Grace to grass: Former Harambee Stars defender now charcoal seller.”

Strictly speaking, no Kenyan sportsman or sportswoman, is owed anything by any Kenyan, and it is time that Kenyan media became much more objective in coverage about how we Kenyans, “neglect” Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen, when they retire, Kenyan sportsmen and sportsmen who brought “big honour and pride” to our country, when they were active.

Sport is business, big business, and sportsmen and sportswomen around the world, including Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen, are among the most well paid and well remunerated members of society.

Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen are very well travelled around the world, stay at the best hotels in the world when on “national duty,” and get paid very attractive allowances while on “national duty” outside the country. For example, a scandal involving the misappropriation of approximately 200 million Kenya shillings, by the Kenyan contingent to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, is still pending, is yet to be resolved.

The struggles of the common man and common woman in Kenya, are not the struggles of elite Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen.

When will a Kenyan “mama mboga” ever board an aircraft destined for America, Saudi Arabia or Australia, and stay at the best hotels in America, Saudi Arabia or Australia, when she gets there?

When will a Kenyan “boda boda” rider ever board an aircraft destined for Brazil, India or Denmark, and stay at the best hotels in Brazil, India or Denmark, when he or she gets there?

When will a Kenyan “mkokoteni” pusher ever board an aircraft destined for Ireland, Papua New Guinea or Singapore, and stay at the best hotels in Ireland, Papua New Guinea or Singapore, when he or she gets there?

Numerous disillusioned Kenyans continue to bank their hopes on five year election cycles, that will “hopefully,” bring “a better Kenyan Government” or that will “hopefully,” bring “better Kenyan leaders,” as elite Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen continue travelling the world and continue winning gold medals “for Kenya.” Continue winning gold medals “for Kenya,” or winning gold medals for themselves?

Strictly speaking actually, winning a gold medal is like attaining a school certificate or a diploma, is a personal accomplishment, to be proud of, yes, but not a “National Kenyan Accomplishment.”

How many Kenyan school certificate holders and Kenyan diploma holders continue to face harsh times, and who is holding brief for them, in the same way that Kenyan media continues to hold brief for “neglected Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen?”

The Government of Kenya’s 4th President, Uhuru Kenyatta, placed an emphasis on the development of elite sporting facilities around Kenya, and the Government of Kenya’s 5th President, William Ruto, is following in these very footsteps.

In an ironic and tragic sense, if both Governments had placed a greater emphasis on societal programs, rather than the development of elite sporting facilities, there would have been no catastrophes as witnessed with the ongoing rains and flooding in Kenya.

It is meaningless for “highly educated Kenyan geologists” to now emerge and tell us about “fissures,” how they could have been addressed, and how addressing them, could have averted the catastrophes linked to the ongoing flooding in Kenya.

Joe Kadenge (1935 to 2019) belongs to a generation of Kenyan football players who brought “glory” to Kenya in the 1950s and 1960s, in the days of what was known as the Gossage Cup. Joe Kadenge was very travelled, travelled to many places in the world that the majority of us never will.

Joe Kadenge was also privileged to have held senior managerial positions in his time, such as Sales Manager of Coca Cola Kenya, and Sales Manager of Six Eighty Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya, in the days when Sales Managers were highly revered and highly regarded, and in the days too, that Coca Cola Kenya, and Six Eighty Hotel, were highly revered, highly regarded, and highly prestigious.

It was surprising therefore, to read that Joe Kadenge was “one among several neglected Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen,” soon before he passed away in 2019. Kenya’s president at the time, Uhuru Kenyatta, even came to the “rescue” of Joe Kadenge, which Uhuru Kenyatta really should not have done, because there were, and are, millions of Kenya, much more deserving of assistance. How many Kenyans, past and present, will ever have the opportunities that Joe Kadenge had?

The mismatch between elite Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen, and the common man and common woman in Kenya, is no doubt one of the reasons why all sports venues in Kenya today, are virtually empty, even when “big games” and “big matches” are being played, and this applies to all sports in Kenya today. Who cares?

For example, in the 1970s and 1980s in Kenya, when two of the biggest football clubs of those times would meet, namely Abaluhyia Football Club (today AFC Leopards), and Gor Mahia Football Club, other than the venue being packed to full capacity, “overflowing capacity” actually, a good part of the rest of Kenya would also be closely following on radio. When Abaluhyia Football Club (today AFC Leopards), and Gor Mahia Football Club met in those days, it was like some sort of “public holiday” in Kenya.

However, with the high levels of disillusionment and incongruence in Kenya today in the year 2024, even if the common man or common woman may have disposable income on him or her, of say, 100 Kenya shillings, or 200 Kenya shillings, rather than he or she “supporting Kenyan sport” and/or “supporting Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen,” he or she would rather spend it on alcohol, or something of that nature, watch a Nigerian movie, watch pornography on the internet, or watch pornography saved on a device.

Kenyan sport needs to be overhauled and transformed, for it to win back the goodwill and following of the Kenyan people.

The people of Kenya too, need to stop being pontificated to by the Kenyan media, about how Kenyans have “neglected” Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen, past and present, the example above of Joe Kadenge, standing out prominently, on how Kenyan sportsmen and sportswomen, past and present, have far from been “neglected.”
