Nandi County Sisters Who Eat Soap To Be Treated

Sharon Chepchirchir, 24, and her sister Lydia Chepkemboi, 17 from Nandi County have a rare craving and appetite for eating soap. Oak Tree Centre for Kidney and Chronic Diseases Hospital has invited the sisters for a series of tests after The Standard highlighted their story last Friday. Here is the video the Starndard  published last week.

We are glad that the hospital was touched by our plight and desire to quit eating soap. It is also our hope that the tests will demystify our condition and lead to correction of the problem,” Chepchirchir said.

Mathew Koech, the hospital’s lead consultant said that they would carry out the tests at no financial costs to the family.

Dr Koech, a specialist in kidney diseases, described the soap-eating condition as rare.

“I read about this strange case from one of the WhatsApp groups – a medical school class group. It sounds to me like these cravings point towards some mineral deficiency,” said Koech.

The doctor said the hospital’s medical team will be looking out for a potassium deficiency as well as a condition known as Pica.

Pica is a disorder that involves eating items that are not thought of as food and that do not contain significant nutritional value.
The items can include clay, hair, dirt, soap and paint chips,” Koech explained

According to Koech, the soap-eating disorder might be one that is making their bodies lose potassium through urine or any other form of bodily excretion.

  • Western Leaders Cancel DP Ruto After Eviction Of Luhyas From Nandi County

DP Ruto’s problems are upsurging and the son of a charcoal-burner is creating so many enemies directly and indirectly than friends and this time around, his political bad omen has landed on the people of Western Kenya, the main bloc he wants to be a darling to.

Six Luhya legislators have banished DP William Ruto from setting his foot in the region after the Wednesday night government eviction of the Luhya community from Kabtabongen, Kibtuiya ward, Chesumei sub-county in Nandi County.

Cleophas Malala, Kakamega Senator led the six MPs stating that DP Ruto has evicted Luhyas from Nandi and refused to give back their lands, a move they termed as insulting to the entire community that had welcomed him.

Though figures are not verified by this site, sources state that almost rather more than 1,500 families were rendered homeless after they were evicted in Kabtabongen, Kibtuiya ward, Chesumei sub-county in Nandi County following a prolonged land tussle.

“I don’t want to mince my words on this, I want to tell the Deputy President (Ruto) you are not welcome in our area if our people are being evicted from Nandi,” Malala said in a Thursday presser.

“We do not want to have friends only when they come to look for votes,” Osotsi said.

Caleb Amisi MP Saboti,  Florence Mutua, Busia woman representative, George Aladwa MP Makadara, Geoffrey Osotsi, ANC nominated MP and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna are the legislators that have banished DP Ruto from stepping in the western lands.

Other than cussing and banishing DP Ruto, the legislators urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to intervene stating that Students and Pupils sitting this year’s National Examination risks missing all-important exam papers.

The Nandi County government responded to the evictions through this letter dated 10th October 2019. The letter doesn’t have the official signature of the Nandi Governor Stephen Sang.

DP Ruto is expected in Western Kenya tomorrow where he will be attending the burial of former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale’s first wife in Ikolomani. It remains unsure if the DP will snub the burial ceremony of his best friend’s wife or he will attend and throw the Malala led legislators ban under their noses.
