    Court Frees MCA Who Spent Night With Koimburi and Three Others on Sh300,000 Cash Bail

    NAIROBI – The Milimani Law Courts have released four suspects connected to the alleged staged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi, after ruling that there were insufficient grounds to continue their detention.

    Murang’a County Assembly Member Grace Nduta Wairimu, who represents Kanyenya-ini Ward, along with three associates of the MP were each granted release on Sh300,000 cash bail or an alternative bond of Sh1 million on Friday, May 30, 2025.

    The other suspects released are Peter Kiratu Mbari (Chairman of Juja National Government Constituency Development Fund), David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Muhia.

    The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu spent the entire night of May 25, 2025 with Juja MP George Koimburi at a bar in Gatundu South when the lawmaker had claimed that he had been abducted.

    This revelation has significantly undermined the MP’s initial claims of being kidnapped by unknown assailants.

    Police investigators believe Koimburi staged his abduction for political gains, with the incident now being treated as a carefully orchestrated scheme designed to generate public sympathy and political mileage.

    Magistrate Carolyne Mugo imposed strict conditions on the released suspects, prohibiting them from contacting any witnesses directly or through intermediaries.

    The four must also report to the investigating officer weekly or whenever summoned by the DCI.

    The prosecution was granted liberty to request cancellation of bail should any of the suspects violate these court-imposed conditions.

    The case is scheduled for mention on June 5, 2025.

    According to witness accounts and statements from Koimburi’s wife, Ann Koimburi, the MP was accosted by two men disguised as worshippers who joined a crowd of well-wishers greeting the MP outside the church and forced him into a waiting Subaru Forester with an altered number plate.

    The incident allegedly occurred on May 25, 2025, outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County. Koimburi was found alive, dumped in Jacaranda coffee plantation, Kibichoi, Kiambu and taken to hospital.

    He was picked up from the plantation on Monday morning, almost 12 hours after his reported disappearance.

    A private car that was used in the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi was recovered on Tuesday in Juja Township.

    The owner of the car, alleged to be a close ally of Koimburi was also arrested.

    The ally arrested is said to have been an agent for UDA in the 2022 elections, further supporting police claims of a staged operation.

    The suspects face charges of participating in the alleged abduction with intent to commit murder, violating Section 258 of the Penal Code.

    They are also under investigation for allegedly causing a disturbance in a manner likely to breach the peace.

    The case has attracted significant political attention, with Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claiming Koimburi was tortured by his captors before they dumped him.

    However, these claims are now being questioned following the DCI’s revelations about the staged nature of the incident.

    “We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu, MCA representing Kanyenya-ini ward in Murang’a County, was arrested today, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation on the stage-managed abduction of Hon George Koimburi,” the DCI stated.

    MP Koimburi remains hospitalized at Karen Hospital, though investigators have been unable to conduct interviews with him regarding the incident.

    The DCI has dismissed social media reports about MCA Wairimu’s own alleged abduction, calling them false claims designed to create confusion around the case.

    The case has highlighted growing concerns about the use of staged incidents for political purposes, with law enforcement agencies warning against such practices that waste public resources and create unnecessary public anxiety.

    As the investigation continues, the four suspects will remain free on bail while awaiting their next court appearance on June 5, 2025, when the prosecution is expected to provide further details about the charges they intend to pursue.

    The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has arrested Murang’a County Assembly member Grace Nduta Wairimu in connection with the staged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi, revealing she spent the entire night with him at a local establishment during his supposed disappearance.

    DCI confirmed Thursday evening that Wairimu, who represents Kanyenya-ini ward, was taken into custody as part of ongoing investigations into what authorities have determined was a fabricated kidnapping by MP Koimburi.

    Contradicting her alibi

    According to the investigative agency, evidence clearly contradicts Wairimu’s claimed whereabouts on May 25, 2025.

    While the MCA insisted she was in Kangema attending church services and political rallies that day, investigators established she was actually at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Koimburi throughout the night.

    “Evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night,” the DCI stated, directly contradicting her public claims about her activities that weekend.

    The arrest came after Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata raised alarm about Wairimu’s disappearance, initially believing she had been abducted.

    Kang’ata had personally visited Samuru Police Post in Gatanga following unconfirmed reports that she was being held there, only to find the facility empty.

    “Hon City MCA Kanyenyaini Kangema has been picked up by unknown persons,” Kang’ata had posted on social media, expressing concern for her family and constituents before learning of her actual arrest by DCI.

    Koimburi’s elaborate deception

    The MCA’s arrest is directly linked to the investigation of MP Koimburi’s fake abduction, which DCI boss Mohamed Amin described as an unfortunate attempt to create public drama and fear.

    Koimburi disappeared after attending church services and was later found at a coffee plantation in Kibichoi, Ruiru on May 26.

    “It is unfortunate for a whole member of parliament to go to that extent of stage-managing his own abduction, creating a lot of fear and tension in the country,” Amin said, noting that investigators were able to track Koimburi’s movements throughout the period, exposing inconsistencies in his story.

    The DCI has clarified that Wairimu was not abducted as initially reported on social media, but arrested as a key figure in understanding how the fake abduction was orchestrated.

    Her presence with Koimburi during the critical night of May 25 appears central to unraveling the full scope of the staged incident.

    Authorities have promised further updates as the investigation continues, with both the MP and MCA now under scrutiny for their roles in what appears to be an elaborate attempt to manufacture a crisis for unknown political or personal gain.
