Itumbi Claims Kalonzo Has Settled on Sifuna as Running Mate

NAIROBI, June 10, 2026 — President William Ruto’s digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has sparked fresh political debate after claiming that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has settled on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as his preferred running mate for the 2027 General Election.

In a lengthy open letter circulated on social media and addressed to a figure he referred to as “Jofri”, a name widely interpreted in political circles as a reference to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Itumbi laid out what he described as the opposition’s emerging political strategy ahead of the next election.

According to Itumbi, Kalonzo and Sifuna are expected to lead a coalition under the banner of the Ukombozi Linda Mwananchi Alliance, bringing together Kalonzo’s Komboa Kenya campaign and Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement.

The strategist further alleged that the opposition has already identified key candidates for Nairobi’s top elective seats.

He claimed Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has been earmarked for the Nairobi governor race, while former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Irungu Nyakera is being considered for the Senate seat.

In a pointed attack on Gachagua, Itumbi claimed the opposition leadership had rejected advice allegedly advocating for a Kikuyu candidate in the Nairobi governor contest, suggesting growing tensions over the direction of opposition politics and the role of the Mount Kenya region within the coalition.

The most serious allegations in Itumbi’s statement concerned the planned protests scheduled for June 24 and June 25, as well as the anticipated Saba Saba demonstrations.

Without providing evidence, Itumbi accused Gachagua of being the architect of the planned protests and claimed the former deputy president follows a recurring pattern of distancing himself from events when demonstrations turn chaotic.

The allegations are likely to intensify an already heated political environment as opposition leaders continue to mobilise supporters against the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Neither Kalonzo, Sifuna nor Gachagua had publicly responded to Itumbi’s claims by Wednesday evening.

The remarks come at a time of heightened political activity within opposition ranks. Kalonzo recently intensified his Komboa Kenya campaign, signalling his intention to mount another presidential bid, while Sifuna and allies associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement have been conducting political rallies across several regions.

Political observers view Itumbi’s intervention as part of the increasingly aggressive battle for narrative control ahead of 2027.

While some interpret the claims as an attempt to expose and potentially destabilise opposition plans, others argue the level of detail contained in the statement suggests deep knowledge of ongoing discussions within rival political camps.

The claims also place fresh pressure on Gachagua, who has been seeking to consolidate support following his fallout with President Ruto and subsequent impeachment battles.

Whether Itumbi’s assertions reflect genuine political realignments or form part of a broader contest for public opinion remains unclear. What is certain is that the statement has injected fresh intrigue into an opposition landscape that is still taking shape more than a year before the next General Election.

Kalonzo Appointed New Azimio Party Leader In Uhuru’s Led Meeting

The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition has appointed former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka as its new party leader, following a joint meeting of the coalition’s Council and National Executive Committee held on February 2, 2026 and chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The coalition announced the changes to its top leadership in a public notice, after resolutions were passed by the Council and the National Executive Committee.

The party has also dropped Suna East MP Junet Mohamed as its Secretary General, replacing him with Suba MP Caroli Omondi.

“Following the resolutions of February 2, 2026, of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party’s Council and National Executive Committee, the party notifies the public of the change of the following officials: the new Party Leader, Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, E.G.H, SC, the new Secretary General, Caroli Omondi, MP and the New Executive Director, Phillip Kisia,” reads the notice.

Additionally, Philip Kisia has been appointed as the coalition’s new executive director and will take over former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju’s responsibilities.

The coalition has urged members of the public seeking additional details to consult its official platforms.

The changes were subsequently acknowledged by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) in a letter dated February 2, 2026 and referenced RPP/FRP/101 (73). In the correspondence addressed to the Chairperson of the Azimio Coalition Council, Registrar of Political Parties J.C. Lorionokou confirmed receipt of documentation arising from the joint meeting of the Azimio Council and the National Coalition Executive Council.

“Reference is made to the above subject matter. This Office acknowledges receipt of your letter dated 2nd February 2026, on the joint meeting of the Azimio Council and the National Coalition Executive Council of February 2, 2026, submitting the following documents,” reads the letter.

The Registrar listed the submitted records as including “a notice dated January 29, 2026 convening the meeting; minutes of the meeting held on February 2, 2026; resolutions of the meeting including change of officials; a letter dated 2nd February addressed to Junet Mohamed on his removal from the office of the Secretary General; a statutory Form PP7 on the change of officials; and an attendance list of the meeting.”

In the same letter, the ORPP advised the coalition to publish the change of officials in line with Section 20 of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D.

The letter was copied to MP Junet, in his capacity as Minority Leader, at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.

The leadership overhaul marks a significant shift within the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition as it reorganises its top organs following the death of the coalition’s party leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, a development that created a leadership vacuum.

  • Farouk Kibet Blasts Kalonzo Musyoka over Criticism of New IEBC Nominees

Farouk Kibet Blasts Kalonzo Musyoka over Criticism of New IEBC Nominees

President William Ruto’s personal assistant, Farouk Kibet, has gone on the offensive against Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka after the latter condemned the president’s recent appointments to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Kibet, known for his sharp tongue and unapologetic loyalty to Ruto, accused Kalonzo of fueling endless political drama instead of focusing on solutions for ordinary Kenyans.

During a fiery speech in Nandi County, Kibet rallied Parliament to approve the IEBC nominees swiftly, dismissing the opposition’s objections as noise rooted in tribalism and political bitterness.

Farouk Kibet Leads UDA Allies in Fierce Defense of IEBC Appointments

Speaking at a fundraising event in Nandi County, Farouk Kibet did not mince words. He openly condemned Kalonzo Musyoka and other opposition figures for what he termed as a “habitual obsession” with fighting the government.

According to Kibet, the delay in setting up a functional IEBC has left many electoral areas without representation, and it is the citizens who suffer most.

“We want the IEBC in place as early as yesterday,” Kibet declared. “There are constituencies without representatives. People want to vote. They want their voices heard. Yet, the opposition’s biggest agenda is always ‘Ruto Must Go’ – even in their sleep.”

Kibet urged the National Assembly to ignore what he called “political noise” and move quickly to approve President Ruto’s nominees.

In his view, the opposition is not driven by principle or constitutional fidelity but by a desperation to stay relevant ahead of the 2027 General Election.

His sentiments were echoed by several UDA lawmakers, including Kimani Ichung’wah and Didmus Barasa, who joined the onslaught against Kalonzo’s faction.

They framed the opposition’s outrage as not only unpatriotic but also deeply tribal.

Kimani Ichung’wah Accuses Kalonzo of Ethnic Profiling

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah took the opportunity to slam Kalonzo’s remarks as thinly veiled tribal propaganda.

According to Ichung’wah, the Wiper party leader has resorted to ethnic profiling simply because the IEBC chair nominee hails from a tribe not favorable to the opposition.

“When the process is fair and transparent but doesn’t favor them, they scream tribalism,” Ichung’wah charged. “The names were legally submitted to the President. Now that the opposition can’t control the process, they cry foul and drag in ethnicity.”

Ichung’wah insisted that the opposition had no constitutional ground to reject the nominees and challenged them to produce concrete evidence that the appointments were flawed or unconstitutional.

He also questioned whether Kalonzo’s attacks were merely laying the groundwork for rejecting future election results.

By portraying Kalonzo’s statements as attempts to delegitimize the IEBC before it even begins work, Ichung’wah sought to discredit any future claims by the opposition about electoral malpractice.

Didmus Barasa Warns of Desperate Opposition Ahead of 2027

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa further fanned the flames by accusing Kalonzo and his allies of teaming up with disgruntled figures like former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to create artificial crises.

Barasa dismissed their criticism as a desperate strategy to stall the government’s development agenda and build an anti-Ruto coalition for 2027.

“Personally, I am not worried,” Barasa said. “Come 2027, our biggest competitor won’t be Kalonzo or Raila. It will be our own success—what we’ve done to change people’s lives.”

Barasa added that Kalonzo’s accusations regarding election rigging were baseless and merely intended to sow public distrust. He accused the opposition of always discrediting institutions that they do not control, calling it a tactic that has outlived its relevance.

Kalonzo, on his part, had earlier blasted the IEBC nominee list as partisan and illegal. He claimed that President Ruto had ignored the constitutional requirement for public consultation and bipartisan concurrence.

“This move has turned the commission into a low-trust institution,” Kalonzo said. “We are looking at a blatant plan to manipulate the 2027 elections and the coming by-elections.”

But for Farouk Kibet and his allies, the opposition’s complaints are not about democracy or the Constitution. They believe the noise is purely political—a smokescreen to deflect from the lack of alternative solutions.

Farouk Kibet has now become a central figure in defending the President’s decisions, reminding Kenyans that the real priority should be restoring electoral credibility and giving every constituency proper representation.

  • Gachagua Plots Major 2027 Elections Coalition with Kalonzo, Wamalwa & Matiang’i to Oust Ruto

Gachagua Plots Major 2027 Elections Coalition with Kalonzo, Wamalwa & Matiang’i to Oust Ruto

In what could become one of the biggest political shake-ups since 2002, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly hinted at a powerful new alliance with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

Speaking boldly at the burial of Reverend Joseph Nzola in Machakos, Gachagua declared that plans are already underway to form a formidable coalition to dethrone President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 elections.

With the political ground shifting fast, this alliance is being crafted quietly but deliberately, with the goal of uniting fractured opposition forces for a historic showdown.

Gachagua’s 2027 Game Plan: A Silent but Strategic Coalition

Gachagua didn’t mince his words in Machakos. “We have listened to Kenyans who have said we come together and form a government that would take the country forward,” he told mourners.

“We are doing just that with Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Fred Matiang’i with me in the kitchen cooking it up.”

His statement, though metaphorical, sent a clear message — he’s not just complaining about the current government. He’s actively working to replace it.

For months, Gachagua has been vocal in criticizing Ruto’s leadership. But this time, he’s moving beyond talk. He’s building a network. And not just any network — one with former senior government officials and battle-tested political tacticians.

Kalonzo brings with him the ever-loyal Ukambani voting bloc. Wamalwa, a key player in Western Kenya, has long been an advocate for progressive leadership.

Matiang’i, endorsed by Jubilee as their presidential candidate, represents the technocratic face of the Uhuru-era legacy.

Together, they could form a regional political juggernaut with the numbers and the experience to challenge the status quo.

Gachagua’s strategy is stealth. “We will stay quiet,” he added. “We will only speak in December 2026.” This calculated silence is meant to neutralize infiltration, misinformation, and sabotage from the Ruto camp. It’s a tactical pause before a loud political storm.

Discontent in the Ruto Camp Fuels Opposition Unity

President Ruto may have hoped his 2022 victory had scattered the opposition. But the recent unity calls are painting a different picture. Gachagua, once a loyal foot soldier, has turned into a vocal critic.

And he’s not alone. Kalonzo, a seasoned political survivor, has reinvented himself as the steady hand in the opposition.

Wamalwa, once a Cabinet Secretary under Ruto and Uhuru, has since pivoted to rally against what he calls Ruto’s “divisive politics.”

Matiang’i, though quiet in recent years, has resurfaced as a unifying figure for the Jubilee remnants. Even Martha Karua, who clashed with Raila Odinga post-2022, is being courted to join forces.

Their grievances vary — economic mismanagement, authoritarianism, political betrayal — but their goal is the same: stop Ruto from securing a second term.

But it’s not just emotions driving them. It’s math. Together, the coalition could tap into regions Ruto relied on in 2022: Central, Eastern, Western, and parts of Rift Valley.

And with voter fatigue growing over broken promises and rising cost of living, the ground may be fertile for rebellion.

Can Ruto Withstand the 2027 Elections Onslaught?

President Ruto has brushed off the growing opposition. He insists that he’s ready for any challenge and is confident in delivering a second term. But beneath the bravado, State House operatives are watching closely.

Disruption campaigns, public vilification of opposition leaders, and alleged sabotage of opposition meetings have been reported. Gachagua himself claims to have faced several attacks, including damage to his cars during public engagements. The signs of fear are visible.

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, though skeptical of coalitions, acknowledges one truth: Ruto has united his rivals. “We may have different ideologies, but we share a common enemy in Ruto,” he said.

Still, unity is easier said than done. Kenya’s political history is riddled with failed coalitions and bitter fallouts. The National Super Alliance (NASA) collapsed under the weight of ego and betrayal. The same risk hangs over this new formation.

But the players seem to have learned. Gachagua’s call for silence, strategic timing, and behind-the-scenes negotiations suggest a more mature approach. They’re not chasing the headlines. They’re building a movement.

The 2027 Elections Just Got Interesting

What began as whispers of discontent is fast turning into a real threat to President Ruto’s second-term ambitions. The emerging Gachagua-Kalonzo-Matiang’i-Wamalwa axis is no longer hypothetical.

It’s political reality taking shape. The 2027 elections are still two years away, but battle lines are already being drawn.

If this alliance holds, it could redefine Kenya’s political future. And if it fails, it may hand Ruto an easy ride to five more years.

Emotional: Kalonzo Opens Up On Wife’s Health Struggles and Why He Has Contemplated Quitting Politics To Take Care Of Her

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has laid bare his heart in a rare and emotional interview, revealing the depth of his 13-year courtship with his wife, Pauline, her ongoing health challenges, and how her condition has led him to contemplate abandoning his political career to care for her.

Speaking on Thursday, April 3, 2025, with a local TV station, the former vice president offered a glimpse into his personal life and the motivations that continue to drive his political journey.

    A Love Story Spanning Decades

Kalonzo’s romance with Pauline is a tale of patience and devotion.

The 71-year-old politician traced their love story back to their teenage years, when they first met at a Christian conference organized by the Kenya Students Christian Fellowship at Alliance Girls High School.

“I was in Form Five in Meru, and she was in Form Two at Molangwe, a missionary school in Kitui,” he recalled. “There, people were speaking in tongues, and we were just sitting there because we are AIC (African Inland Church), wondering what was wrong with us, and we started a conversation.”

That chance encounter sparked a connection that endured through years of separation and growth.

The couple seen together in a past event.

While Kalonzo pursued his studies at university, Pauline, then working at the Ministry of Labour at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), would visit him between 1974 and 1975.

Later, she studied in India while he went to Cyprus for further education.

Their bond deepened over a 13-year courtship, culminating in marriage in December 1985, shortly after Kalonzo was elected as a Member of Parliament for Kitui North in April of that year.

“She would come and vote in my constituency,” he said proudly, calling her his “best friend” and a pillar of his life.

Pauline’s Health Struggles and Spiritual Support

Kalonzo did not shy away from discussing the toll of Pauline’s health challenges, a private matter that has seen her in and out of hospitals in Kenya and abroad since 2015.

“I know if I were in a similar situation, Pauline would have taken better care of me,” he admitted with a mix of gratitude and vulnerability.

“I cannot do enough for Pauline to give her comfort and to wish her recovery.”

The Musyoka family has leaned on faith and community during this difficult time.

Kalonzo recounted moments of spiritual encouragement, including a visit from a bishop from Canterbury who prayed for Pauline and a performance by international gospel singer Israel Mbonyi, who played the guitar for her.

“I hold the view that one day she will stand and walk,” he said with quiet hope.

    Contemplating a Political Exit

A prayerful Kalonzo on his knees in a Church.

Pauline’s condition has weighed heavily on Kalonzo, prompting him to consider stepping away from the political arena he has inhabited for decades.

“With a wife who has been unwell, it has occurred to me several times. I could just quit politics and look after my wife,” he confessed.

Yet, he remains steadfast, driven by Pauline’s own resolve. “I know Pauline would not agree. She is a vision carrier; she knows where we have come from and what I am supposed to achieve, so I keep going; therefore, quitting is not an option.”

Kalonzo’s passion for public service also fuels his perseverance. “For me, it is a calling to help and serve people,” he said.

“It gives me a lot of pleasure when I help a Kenyan each day out of some misery.”

Through his foundation, he supports struggling families—many unaware of his opposition role—often hearing pleas like, “Watoto hawajaenda shule” (The children haven’t gone to school).

“If I quit, who will help these people?” he asked rhetorically. “I still have the strength to keep going.”

Despite his personal challenges, Kalonzo remains a formidable figure in Kenya’s political landscape, eyeing the presidency with unwavering determination. He acknowledged the “betrayal and trickery” that define Kenyan politics but refused to let it derail him.

“I do not take it to heart. I know people are struggling for space and want to achieve certain visions. I have my own vision to serve and lead this country, and I think that time has come,” he asserted.

  • Joining Ruto? Kalonzo Dismisses Viral Video As Fake News

Joining Ruto? Kalonzo Dismisses Viral Video As Fake News

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed the claims that he’s joining President William Ruto’s administration following a viral video circulating online that he has since dismissed as fake news.

Speculation has been rife that Ruto is courting a key opposition figure to further consolidate his support ahead of the 2027 elections, following his deal with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Kalonzo has been among those rumored to be on Ruto’s radar to strengthen his political grip.

Responding to a viral video on Wednesday morning, which recapped his visit to State House during the unveiling of the Nadco report in 2024, Kalonzo dismissed the claims and insisted he would not betray Kenyans.

“Why are they so panicky?” Kalonzo captioned the widely circulated video.

The Wiper leader affirmed his commitment to working alongside fellow opposition leaders to “liberate” the country in 2027.

“The People’s Loyal Coalition will never be part of the biggest betrayal of Kenyans for political expediency and temporary comfort,” Kalonzo declared.

The former vice president’s remarks come just days after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed a memorandum of understanding with President Ruto.

Kalonzo is currently working with opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa.

On March 7, Kalonzo and Wamalwa strongly criticised the cooperation agreement between Raila and Ruto, labeling it a “betrayal of Kenyans.”

The two leaders argued that Raila had abandoned the cause of the Kenyan people, particularly those who lost their lives in 2023 and 2024 while protesting against the high cost of living, punitive taxes, and governance issues.

Speaking at the People’s Dialogue Festival at Uhuru Park on Friday, Kalonzo and Wamalwa opined that even with Raila’s backing, it was not easy for Ruto to secure re-election.

“If there is no formula at KICC today (March 7) showing how Kenyans will be compensated for the loss of lives due to police brutality, then nothing will come out of KICC other than the betrayal of the Kenyan people,” Kalonzo said.

Wamalwa echoed these sentiments, emphasising that the opposition would remain true to the people’s concerns and not be swayed by government positions.

He also faulted Raila for aligning with the government, asserting that history would judge him for his decision.

“We chose to stand with Gen Z, with the people of Kenya, and today, as the opposition, we want to make it clear—we have deliberately and consciously chosen where we stand,” Wamalwa declared.

“Those who left the opposition to join Kenya Kwanza government—history is a harsh judge; may it judge them accordingly.”

But Raila defended his move on Tuesday, saying he did not join Ruto but is working with the government to address 10 facing Kenyans.

  • How Kalonzo Is Ruining His Chances Of Becoming President

How Kalonzo Is Ruining His Chances Of Becoming President

Kalonzo Musyoka’s public relations machinery works overtime, ensuring no party purge, weekend prayer meeting or proclamation goes unnoticed by the media and ultimately the public. The former vice-president has positioned himself as a perpetual critic of President William Ruto’s administration, regularly cataloguing its shortcomings – from human rights concerns to economic struggles, delivering regular sermons on abductions of government critics, the high cost of living, and youth unemployment.

But as Kalonzo strives to project to Kenyans that he has presidential gravitas, there’s a troubling contradiction. While he’s surrounded by some respectable figures – earnest politicians waiting out their season in the wilderness – his inner circle raises serious questions about his judgment and intentions. His closest associates include individuals whose presence would make any serious presidential aspirant recoil.

Most disturbing is Kalonzo’s apparent comfort with keeping company that should set off alarm bells. Among his associates is a former governor battling corruption charges in court over questionable deals made during his tenure. He has also extended olive branches to a disgraced politician whose impeachment and removal from office is still fresh in public memory. Photographs of Kalonzo with some of these disreputable characters regularly adorn the pages of daily newspapers.

Kalonzo’s actions suggest that he values political expediency over principle. Some of these men that he’s courting represent voting blocs that he probably sees as crucial for him if he chooses to run for President in 2027. But this is tainting his presidential ambitions. A leader’s character is often reflected in the company they keep, and these associations paint a disturbing picture of someone willing to compromise ethical standards for political advantage. It seems Kalonzo has chosen convenience over conscience, raising serious questions about how he would govern if he were elected.

While Kalonzo’s credentials as a former vice-president and foreign minister are noteworthy, these alone cannot justify his bid for the highest office in the land. Kenya needs more than a seasoned politician – it needs a leader with a clear vision and concrete plans for national progress. But, so far, Kalonzo’s unofficial campaign for President seems built primarily on critiquing the current administration, a role better suited to civil society activists and Gen Z than presidential hopefuls.

If Kalonzo truly aspires to lead Kenya, he must demonstrate more than his ability to identify problems. He needs to articulate a detailed programme for national development, one that offers practical solutions to the very issues he so readily cites. Equally important, he must show better judgment in choosing his political associations. The company he keeps speaks volumes about the kind of presidency he would run.

Until he can align his actions with the higher standards of integrity, wisdom and solutions, his presidential aspirations will remain just a mirage.

  • Farah Maalim Expelled From Wiper Party

Farah Maalim Expelled From Wiper Party

The Wiper Party on Wednesday, January 15, expelled Daadab MP Farah Maalim from his position as Deputy Party leader.

In a press briefing, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka stated that Maalim was removed for violating the Party’s Constitution and infringing on human rights.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Farah Maalim, who until now served as Wiper’s deputy leader, stands expelled for violating the Constitution, infringing on the rights of Kenyans, and making offensive remarks against Kenyan mothers,” said Kalonzo.

The decision follows controversial comments made by Maalim during a recent tour of South Rift with President William Ruto. His remarks were widely criticised as offensive and abusive.

This is not the first time Maalim has faced backlash.

Last year, an undated video surfaced online showing him speaking in Somali, claiming that if he were president, he would have “slaughtered” 5,000 young protesters daily.

Despite clear evidence that the video was unedited, Maalim dismissed it as doctored.

“It’s all editing, cutting, and pasting—taking a word from here and another from there. It’s not an accurate picture,” he said during an interview with KTN.

Kalonzo condemned Maalim’s repeated remarks, saying that they insult both Kenyans and the Constitution he vowed to uphold.

Despite his expulsion from Wiper Party leadership, Maalim will retain his position as a Member of Parliament.

Kalonzo Threatens Mass Demos Should The Govt Implement New Proposed Taxes

A section of opposition leaders has voiced strong dissent against a proposal to extend the term limits of elected leaders, as well as the planned introduction of new tax measures.

Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his DAP-K counterpart Eugene Wamalwa have cautioned that they will mobilise Kenyans to resist any attempt to extend the tenure of elected leaders.

The two further decried what they termed as the planned reintroduction of new tax measures by the government.

“Wakenya wanaumia na mambo ya ushuru. Wale wako na mshahara wanachukua payslip yenye imejaa ushuru. Imekuwa ushuru kila mahali,” lamented Kalonzo.

“Tangu serikali ya Kenya Kwanza ije, kile kitu wameongeza kutoka bottom mpaka up ni ushuru. Ushuru ukipanda, haijalishi kama wewe ni mtu wa Kenya Kwanza ama wa Azimio. Mafuta ikipanda, nauli ipande, kila mtu anaumia sawa,” said Wamalwa.

The DAP-K Leader argues that the new measures are likely to exacerbate the already high cost of living.

“Wabunge, mkipitisha hiyo Finance Bill ambayo inarudishwa, the burden of taxation will get heavier on the people of Kenya,” he said.

“Tunaambiwa serikali inataka kurudisha ile ushuru ilikuwa imetolewa na hiyo bill (Finance Bill 2024) ikatupiliwa mbali na Rais. Nawaomba Wabunge wawe makini kwa sababu mambo haya Waziri John Mbadi anayaleta Bungeni sio mambo mtapiga kura kwa niaba ya Ruto, Raila, Kalonzo ama Wamalwa. Ni kwa niaba ya Wananchi,” added the former Cabinet Secretary.

  • Ruto Should Go Before Gachagua—Kalonzo

    Ruto Should Go Before Gachagua—Kalonzo

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka now says President William Ruto should have been the first to be impeached, long before the motion to remove his deputy Rigathi Gachagua from office was tabled in Parliament.

According to Kalonzo, the recently held public participation exercise on the impeachment motion against DP Gachagua proved that Kenyans are fed up with the entire Kenya Kwanza top administration, beginning with President Ruto himself.

He went ahead to cite what he termed as a clarion call coined by Kenyans – “kufa dereva, kufa makanga” – which implies that both of the country’s two top leaders have lost the confidence of the country hence should be ousted as one.

“Before Gachagua was allowed to defend himself, they (Parliament) went out there and purported to do public participation, which turned out to be actually a referendum vote on the presidency of William Ruto, including his own deputy. Because Kenyans were out saying it loudly, that both of them should leave office; kufa driver, kufa makanga,” he said.

“In terms of public participation and perception, the clarion call was that if Gachagua has to be impeached, it should not be him [alone]. In fact Kenyans are saying, on a balance of scale, William Ruto himself should actually have gone first to be impeached. That’s what Kenyans are saying.”

If, for nothing else, the opposition Azimio coalition co-principal went ahead to point out that President Ruto should have been impeached following the youth-led protests of June 25, 2024 where a number of Kenyans were killed and others abducted.

“Following the events of June 25th, a lot of young Kenyans were killed, other were abducted, and many others are still missing as we speak today,” he said.

“If that is not an impeachable offense on the part of the President, then I do not know what it is. Because the President is supposed to safeguard the lives, uphold the principles and basic rights of every Kenyan citizen under the Constitution.”

Speaking on Citizen TV’s ‘The Explainer’ show on Tuesday night, Kalonzo rubbished the 11 grounds of impeachment against DP Gachagua tabled in the National Assembly by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.

The Wiper boss termed the charges as “frivolous,” but went ahead to add that “that’s a matter perhaps for the courts to decide.”

  • Kalonzo Rules Out Joining Ruto Govt, Declares 2027 Presidential Bid

Kalonzo Rules Out Joining Ruto Govt, Declares 2027 Presidential Bid

Wiper party leader and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya principal, Kalonzo Musyoka, has announced his intention to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.

Kalonzo reiterated his commitment to remain in opposition, asserting that his conscience would not allow him to join  government.

“My conscience will not allow me. For the love of this nation, we will stand firm. Even William Ruto knows that Kalonzo will be his opponent; he knows this clearly,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo spoke on Friday during a visit to the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa in Kihome, Othaya Constituency, Nyeri County, where he attended a symbolic priesthood ceremony for Prophetess Leah Overflow.

Leaders accompanying the wiper leader including Jeremiah Kioni and Eugene Wamalwa declared Kalonzo as their leader saying they have released Azimio leader Raila Odinga to contest for African Union Commission Chairmanship.

“We have released Raila to contest for the AU Commission Chair, but we will continue working with Kalonzo Musyoka in the opposition to keep the government in check,” Wamalwa said.

Kalonzo’s resolute stance comes in the wake of President Ruto’s reconstitution of Cabinet to include four members from the ODM party.

Raila has however maintained that neither the ODM Party not has entered into a coalition agreement with Ruto’s UDA party.

“Neither the ODM Party nor Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has entered into any coalition agreement with President Ruto’s UDA party. We had anticipated the crafting of clear terms of engagement based on issues we raised in our various communiques,” Raila stated.

The four ODM nominees include MP and ODM Chairman John Mbadi (Treasury), Hassan Joho (Mining), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives), and Opiyo Wandayi (Energy).

  • Inside Ruto-Raila Plans to Overhaul Judiciary and Police Forces

Inside Ruto-Raila Plans to Overhaul Judiciary and Police Forces

In a significant development shaping Kenya’s political landscape, leaders from both the Ruto and Raila camps have unveiled ambitious plans to reform the country’s judiciary and police forces.

This initiative comes against a backdrop of heightened public scrutiny and calls for transparency and accountability in law enforcement and judicial processes.

The proposals put forth by Deputy President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga underpin their respective visions for Kenya’s future governance.

Central to these plans is a commitment to addressing systemic challenges that have long plagued the judiciary and police, aiming to restore public trust and enhance the institutions’ effectiveness.

Will Ruto-Raila Plans Address Key Issues Raised By Gen Z?

In response to widespread protests by Gen Z and calls for dialogue from President William Ruto and Raila Odinga, the Kenyan Senate has put forward significant reforms.

Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi presented these proposals to tackle corruption, government inefficiency, and unfair public appointments, which have fueled the unrest.

They also address concerns about the lavish lifestyles of Kenya Kwanza leaders, high unemployment rates, and rising living costs in their motion titled “The Current State of the Nation.”

    Key Proposals vs Issues

The Senate proposes a thorough plan to calm unrest and promote accountability.

One main recommendation is urging the National Assembly to quickly review the presidential memorandum rejecting the Finance Bill 2024 completely.

This legislative step is paired with a requirement for immediate cost-cutting measures across all government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as ordered by President Ruto.

Additionally, the Senate stresses the importance of stronger actions by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and other agencies from various sectors to fight widespread corruption.

Addressing Police Conduct and Public Concerns

To address public concerns and maintain peaceful protests, the Senate has urged the National Police Service to stop abducting people, making illegal arrests, and carrying out extrajudicial killings.

The directive emphasizes the need to handle demonstrators calmly and uphold their human rights.

The Senate has also called for releasing promptly those detained during peaceful protests about passing the Finance Bill.

To reduce the impact of protest violence, President Ruto and Raila’s team have suggested waiving hospital bills for the injured and covering funeral costs for those who died.

    Judicial Response and Conclusion

Lastly, the Judiciary has been called upon to expedite all court cases linked to the Finance Bill and ensuing protests.

This move aims to ensure swift justice and uphold the rule of law in resolving grievances.

As these proposals unfold, their implementation will be crucial in shaping Kenya’s political landscape and meeting the demands of its youth demographic.

Continued dialogue and collaboration among all stakeholders are essential to achieving lasting reforms and fostering a more stable socio-political environment for the future.

  • Martha Karua Denies Imminent Split with Raila Odinga

Martha Karua Denies Imminent Split with Raila Odinga

Azimio Principal Martha Karua refuted claims of an impending separation between herself and coalition leader Raila Odinga.

Speculations about a strained relationship arose when Karua was conspicuously absent from the Kamukunji Rally on Friday, July 7, and the subsequent march to Central Park in Nairobi’s CBD.

In her place, Raila Odinga was accompanied by former Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria, suggesting trouble between the 2022 presidential candidate and his running mate.

    Martha Karua and Raila Odinga

Karua addressed these reports, stating that her absence from the capital was due to her simultaneous rally in Kirinyaga. She reiterated that she had initiated the process of collecting signatures to repeal the Finance Act 2023, aligning with Odinga’s expectations.

This clarification put to rest allegations that Raila intended to replace his former running mate with Mwangi wa Iria.

During the mass rally on July 7, the Azimio Coalition adopted a new strategy to exert pressure on President William Ruto’s administration to reduce the cost of living.

Unlike previous practices of hosting a single large rally in Nairobi, coalition leaders held simultaneous rallies nationwide.

While Karua led anti-government protests in Kirinyaga, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka initiated a signature collection drive in Kathiani, Machakos County. Similarly, Eugene Wamalwa, leader of the Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K), and George Wajackoya, leader of the Roots party, led demonstrations in the Western region.

Odinga announced that similar protests would be organized throughout the country on Wednesday, July 12.

On Saturday, July 8, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua dismissed the signature collection drive, deeming it a futile endeavor without constitutional support. Gachagua stated that the constitution only permits the removal of a sitting president through an election victory, not through signatures.

Martha Karua vs Mwangi wa Iria?

There is no evidence to suggest that Mwangi wa Iria is intentionally overshadowing Martha Karua in the Azimio camp. While Karua’s absence from a recent rally and Mwangi wa Iria’s presence alongside Raila Odinga sparked speculation, it is important to note that political dynamics can be complex and multifaceted.

It is not uncommon for political leaders to engage with various individuals and groups to build alliances and support. Any assumptions about one individual intentionally blocking another’s shine would be speculative and unsubstantiated.

  • Mike Sonko, A Spent Cartridge Bulldozed By Kalonzo In His Proxy Fight With Raila

Mike Sonko, A Spent Cartridge Bulldozed By Kalonzo In His Proxy Fight With Raila

Mike Sonko’s glory days are over, let’s start with that. In an afterthought move, Wiper Movement leader and presumed Ukambani leader Kalonzo Musyoka pulled Mike Sonko out of the court corridors to contest for Mombasa gubernatorial position in his sinister way to derail, blackmail and fight Azimio’s candidate Raila Odinga.

Sonko of today is not that of 2018 who wowed the Nairobian electorates and got more votes than any other candidate in the same position in the country.

At the time, many perceived him as incorruptible, a clean template politician who couldn’t touch a coin against the will and to the advantage of the wananchi and as wisemen said, give a man power, money and know his characters, Mike Sonko turned out to be the devil who was hiding in plain sight.

The embattled former Nairobi Governor has not only had to face serious fraud, corruption accusations still in court, he was also faced with terrorism charges that saw him being put under custody of the dreaded anti terror police unit.

At one point, Sonko had President Uhuru on speed dial, but they’d later break up as the president kept a safe distance from the ex-governor after intelligence sources singled him out as spiked and disastrous. Sonko would at one point launch personal attacks on the president eventually leading to his arrest and ouster. Sonko willingly gave up the functions of the county government to NMS after it became imminent that he was incompetent and not up to the task.

After he was eventually impeached by both the Nairobi County assembly and the Senate over corruption allegations, Sonko claimed that he was forced to transfer power under duress in Statehouse, sensationally saying that he was drunk while doing so. Investigations by both EACC, County Government and Senate found the ex-governor incompetent to hold public office.

Sonko and his puppet master Kalonzo.

Kalonzo Musyoka who has been subtly blackmailing Raila Odinga to appoint him as his running mate with the aim of taking over from him in 2027 as Mr Odinga wants to go for one term, decided to frustrate Odinga’s consolidation of his support base.

In Nairobi, Kalonzo against the Azimio’s MoU of having a Jubilee candidate for the governor and ODM for DG, fronted his own candidate a Prof Kaloki whom again he used to blackmail ODM by fronting him to deputize Jubilee’s Richard Ngatia.

After negotiations, leading contender Tim Wanyonyi of ODM stepped aside in favor of Polycarp Igathe the candidate that Jubilee fronted. Again, Kalonzo went ahead with his push and insisted a Kamba in this case Prof Kaloki was to deputize, he had his way.

In Mombasa, Kalonzo a supposed reformist has brought a ‘garbage’ to lead the county as the preferred Wiper candidate, Sonko who’s marred with all manner of scandals has been given a direct ticket by Wiper in a cunning move that has been read by many experts as yet another blackmail move by Mr Kalonzo staging a proxy war against Mr Odinga.

Mombasa is seen as an ODM stronghold with its candidate Abdulswamad Nassir seen to be a leading candidate according to latest opinion polls. Kalonzo is banking on the Kamba votes in Mombasa together with the Mijikenda’s Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo votes to spoil the broth for ODM and Raila.

In March, the US government sanctioned Mike Sonko banning him from visiting the U.S. together with his family due to his involvement in what they term as ‘significant corruption’.

According to Ned Price, the department’s spokesperson, the US has impeccable information that while in office, Governor Sonko solicited bribes and kickbacks in exchange for awarding government contracts to his associates.  “His actions undermined the rule of law and the public’s faith in Kenya’s democratic institutions and public processes.” The statement says.

He is alleged to have embezzled more than 300 million shillings partly through the irregular awarding of contracts to friends’ companies that are said to have wired money to his personal accounts after receiving their payments from Nairobi county.

He was also recently accused of recruiting and arming a militia, procuring military clothing associated with terrorist groups and financing terrorist activities.

Being a tourist destination for many international guests, many are asking us this the profile for a governor they want for their city? One who’s sanctioned and limited to travels abroad to bring in investors and other investments?

Why is Kalonzo using Mombasa as a dumping site for rejected leaders as Sonko? It can only mean one thing he thinks and wishes for Mombasa. Why didn’t Kalonzo front Sonko in any of the counties in Ukambani? The answer is open.

Sonko as I started, is a sober cartridge, his glory days are gone, the once unruly Sonko is no more, he’s been turned into a puppet of Kalonzo, turn left, Sonko turns left.

  • Kalonzo’s spoiler role in ODM strongholds

Kalonzo’s spoiler role in ODM strongholds

Wiper Democratic Movment handed Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko a direct nomination ticket to vie for the Mombasa County governorship in the August General Election.

Sonko was handed the ticket by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in a small ceremony held in Nairobi almost two weeks after the Musyoka-led party cleared Sonko and submitted his name to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

After his entry into the Mombasa race race, the controversial politician was expected to face off with Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo in nominations but Kalonzo managed to broker a deal that will have Mbogo deputize Sonko.

TThe move now sets stage for Sonko to battle it out against Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif  Nassir (ODM) and former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar (UDA) who are both eyeing the top seat in the port city.

Sonko-Mbogo ticket is considerebly strong since Mbogo comes from the Mijikenda community which is the largest in the ccoastal region. He is also the sitting in MP in Kisauni which is th most populous constituency in Mombasa County.

Wiper Leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka [p/courtesy]
The battle to succceed outgoing governor Hassan Joho has seen many aspirants scrambling for Mijikenda community vote which is distributed across the six sub-counties ahead of the August polls.

Sonko who has had a stint as the resideent of Mombasa began by endearing himself to the community by meeting its elders.

According to 2017 IEBC register, Mombasa  County has a total of 580,223 registered voters with slightly over 50% of these voters coming from the Mijikenda community concentrated especially in Kisauni and Likoni sub counties and sections of Mvita.

Experts argue that the Mijikenda factor despit the poverty levels still remains crucial for anyone seeking to be the next governor and like any previous races; Kenyan-Arab aspirants will also have to scramble for Mijikenda running mates.

Even ODM’s Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir who will fly the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) flag and considered a descendant of the Arab Swahili, a community regarded as wealthy with urban influence is most likey to choose a Mijikendda as his running matte to win the vote.

Both Sonko and Abdulswamad are in Azimio La Umoja coalition and one would have expected Kalonzo to shelve his party’s interests in a plac considered ODM stronghold but he is hellbent to play a spoiler card.

He is not campaigning for the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga but fielding candidates in regions where vote splitting may disadvantage ODM and favor UDA candidate.

Kalonzo believes that pairing with Mijikenda gives him enough guts to take on ODM in Mombasa. Both Kalonzo and Sonko are from the Kamba community whi boasts of good numericcal figures in Mombasa.

The Kamba community is the second largest vote bloc in Mombasa county. They had initially expressed their will to throw their weight behind businessman Suleiman Shahbal who later ditched Wiper for ODM after alledging that Joho gave them a raw deal.

They claim that the incumbent who was elected on an ODM ticket has neglected them for close to a decade by ignoring their kins in county xecutive jobs.

But Kalonzo’s meddling and interferance in ODM strongholds has also been witnessed in Nairobi.

The former VP had intially reached a deal to have Wiper’s Prof. Philip Kaloki deputize Jubilee aspirant Richard Ngatia. This was despite Ngatia being tainted with looting scandals, fake degree papers and ODM having the favorite to ascend to City’s top sat in Westlands MP Tim Wanyaonyi.

Azimio has since settled to have Jubilee’s Polycarp Igathe go for the governor deputized by ODM’s Tim Wanyonyi and Wiperman Philip Kaloki has been promised the County Assembly speaker position.

  • Kalonzo eying DP position in Azimio camp

Kalonzo eying DP position in Azimio camp

Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed that he wants to be handed the Deputy President’s position in Azimio La Umoja coalition which has settled on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga as it’s presidential flag bearer.

The former vice-president whose position as the Ukambani political kingpin is under threat also claimed that he is  ready to forfeit that position and settle for a lesser one so longs as his community gets a third of the plum positions in Raila administration but they are still arguing over power sharing.

“We want to ensure that the Kamba community gets the respect it deserves,” Kalonzo to Musyi FM.

The Wiper leader also faulted Mr Odinga’s campaign as he clarified that Wiper had joined Azimio la Umoja coalition as a party and not as a member of the defunct One Kenya Alliance.

He further stated that he is among the top three leaders and a key decision-maker in Azimio coalition, whose other member is President Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee Party.

“OKA shall be at the ballot because we have created a coalition agreement modelled around the three-legged stool known as Azimio-One Kenya Alliance,” he added.

Members of Odinga’s party have repeatedly denied that they signed a deal with OKA as a coalition but individual parties from OKA including KANU led by Senator Gideon Moi and Kalonzo’s Wiper despite the former VP insisting on a Azimio -OKA coalition to deal with political betrayal.

“The three-legged stool arrangement is designed to rule out betrayal. We have left an exit route. Once talks on the Azimio-OKA power-sharing matrix begin, you will hear me insist that nothing is agreed until it is agreed so that no one will betray us again.” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo who shelved his presidential ambitions to back Odinga for third straight time also clarified on the intrigues that surrounded the signing of the grand coalition deal on Saturday. He lamented that President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga kept him waiting at State House for more than three hours.

He also accused Ukambani governors who are supporting Odinga of working on sinister deals to block him from becoming Odinga’s running mate, a position that has also attracted the attention of Mt Kenya region.

Kalonzo alsomade it clear that he will never hold joint rallies with governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos) to market Azimio and Odinga’s presidential bid, insisting that he is still Ukambani’s political kingpin.

  • I Have Been Betrayed Enough , Kalonzo Says He Won’t Be Forced Into A Hurried Deal

I Have Been Betrayed Enough , Kalonzo Says He Won’t Be Forced Into A Hurried Deal

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has denied claims that they held a meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga over a possible coalition deal.

Speaking in Kwale, Kalonzo who is leading the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) brigade campaigns in the region said his meeting with Raila at Tamarind hotel was coincidental which resulted in greetings but nothing beyond the niceties.

Kalonzo who was accompanied by his co-principal Kanu leader Gideon Moi said he cannot be forced into a hurried deal, “because he has been betrayed enough” to trust again.

He insists that if at all there will be talks, then they must be structured and all-inclusive under the understanding of equal partnership.

The Wiper leader says those in a hurry to push him into a coalition with Raila “they better create their own Kalonzo to push around”.

He at the same time hit out at ODM leaders accusing them of mistrust and bully tactics citing that they denied OKA Tononoka grounds on the pretext that they had planned their event there.

Kalonzo had previously admitted that there are coalition talks between OKA and Raila-led Azimio la Umoja movement.

  • What President Uhuru Told OKA Leaders In State House Meeting

What President Uhuru Told OKA Leaders In State House Meeting

President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly met One Kenya Alliance on Saturday October 30, 2021 in a bid to convince them into supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga in the 2022 polls.

The Head of State met ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula. Baringo senator Gideon Moi and ex-Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, who are also members of the OKA team, were not present at the meeting.

According to reports by a local daily, the President whipped the OKA principals to shelve their presidential bids in favour of the former prime minister.

The President is said to have scorned the leaders, telling them that he was not impressed by their actions, that he opined could scuttle his plans for the future of the country.

The President also posited that the continued parallel campaigns by the OKA team was causing confusion among the electorate and specifically in the bastions of the now defunct NASA coalition.

Uhuru is said to have put ANC party leader on the spot for his numerous remarks that insinuated that the country’s economy is increasingly declining under the President’s watch.

Speaking on the meeting, ANC Deputy party leader Ayub Savula stated that the President was only appealing to the OKA leaders to support Raila and not compelling them for the same.

“The President is meeting the OKA leaders at State House because these are people who represent political parties, they have to consult. There is an issue of convincing and as Uhuru said before, opposition leaders have to unite because they have a common enemy but is just an appeal, he cannot force them to support a particular person,” he said.

  • Will the ground shift if Kalonzo backs Odinga?

Will the ground shift if Kalonzo backs Odinga?

There is a loud mumbling in Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party with junior politicians giving him ultimatums if he bends low to become Raila Odinga’s running mate for the third time.

A section of Ukambani lawmakers led by Kitui senator Enock Wambua warned Kalonzo that such a move will lead to automatic withdrawal of their support.

The politician are urging Kalonzo to man up and better his chances of capturing the country’s top seat or lose their support to the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto whose UDA party is making inroads into the region.

But pundits also argue that the MPs who are against Kalonzo supporting Odinga are only doing so to benefit from the former VP’s influence to win re-election.

Kalonzo who appears to have been shocked by the daring move from his would be sycophants has not reacted to the MPs calls, meaning he could be in agreement with the leaders.

He has bragged over his long political resume either as observers point that the ultimatum has not gone down well with him. Reports that the ground is shifting to Ruto can only spell doom to a man who is nothing without the Kamba voters solidly behind him.

There are also reports that the MPs are not being used by any politician to influence Kalonzo meaning there could be truths in their calls.

This section of politicians are against Raila who has been having under hands in portraying his competitors as weak politicians in their home turfs.

The move is a clever way of luring Kalonzo not support Raila for the third straight time without success but instead join Ruto since everybody knows that Kalonzo cannot win the presidency if he goes for it.

But Kalonzo cannot make the brave move since he has been pocked by President Uhuru Kenyatta who is out to shoot his deputy’s dreams of becoming the next president of Kenya.

Uhuru himself has failed to stop Ruto from making inroads into his Mt. Kenya backyard where elected leaders are shifting the allegiance to the DP on daily basis.

The president is pushing Kalonzo to back Raila but reliable sources revealed to KI that the MPs move is  a way of telling him to keep off Kamba politics and let the make an alternative move.

  • Kamba tycoon abandons Kalonzo as 2022 beckons

Kamba tycoon abandons Kalonzo as 2022 beckons

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s hopes of ascending to presidency have been dealt a major blow after key financier, tycoon Peter Muthoka, ditched him as 2022 campaigns gain momentum. Kalonzo was relying on Muthoka to finance his campaigns but the tycoon has been avoiding him since early last year when he [Kalonzo] hosted a political event at his Yatta home.

Muthoka who dished out hand outs to senators, MPs and MCAs who attended the meeting vowed to only rest after ensuring that Kalonzo is duly elected as president in 2022. But he is not the first one to abandon Kalonzo, former Machakos senator Johnston Muthama also abandoned him complaining that he was going broke for supporting a man who is not focused on becoming the next president of the republic.

Kalonzo refuted claims by Muthama, arguing that former Machakos law maker made money by selling his candidature to highest bidders. In the run up to 2007 elections, Muthama was used by the handlers of president Mwai Kibaki to strike a deal that saw Kalonzo supporting Kibaki immediately after the disputed polls of 2007.

Kibaki who could not beat Raila Odinga with a clear margin then appointed Kalonzo as his vice and rented his party, then ODM-Kenya, to support him in parliament where Odinga’s party would easily impeach him through a vote of no confidence. In fact Kibaki men financed Kalonzo’s 2007 campaigns and a similar move played out in 2013 polls when Muthama struck a deal with ODM men to have Kalonzo deputize Odinga as the running mate.

    Tycoon Peter Muthoka [p/courtesy]
Muthama pocketed millions from Kibaki and Raila deals and when he quit the former VP’s camp for DP William Ruto, Muthoka filled the gap he left and vowed to do more than Muthama did only to ditch Kalonzo in the hour of need. Muthoka campaigned for Jubilee in Ukambani, financed Jubilee party candidates in the region in 2017 and he even hosted Ruto at his Vota church where congregants were bribed with hand outs and food stuff.

But Muthoka has been financially limping since the completion of standard gauge railway and the government’s move which made it compulsory for all cargo from Mombasa to be transported to Nairobi using the SGR. He was a heavy investor in logistics where he raked in millions through Global Logistics Company that was started by his late brother Andrew Muthoka.

His financial constraints were also worsened by the government’s decision to buy vehicles from Aurasia which deals in Peugeot and not VW and Landrover vehicles from CMC where Muthoka is the Managing Director.

He has also not bagged any contracts that Uhuru Kenyatta and Jubilee charlatans promised him in the run up 2017 polls leaving him to only survive on a contract he signed with Safaricom to clear and transport its equipment from Mombasa port.
