Twitter Boss Jack Dorsey Is Auctioning His First Ever Tweet And It’s Drawn $2M Bid

Twitter boss Jack Dorsey is selling his first tweet at auction, with bidding Saturday reaching $2 million in a sign of the appetite for virtual objects authenticated through blockchain technology.

“just setting up my twttr,” Dorsey tweeted on March 21, 2006.

On Friday he posted a link to “Valuables @Cent,” an online marketplace for tweets where, the site says, investors or collectors can “buy and sell tweets autographed by their creators.”

The top bid Saturday for Dorsey’s tweet — $2 million — came from Justin Sun, the founder of TRON, a platform for blockchain, the technology underlying cryptocurrencies. He also heads the BitTorrent streaming platform.

“The creator of a tweet decides if they would like to mint it on the blockchain, creating a 1-of-1 autographed version,” Valuables explains.

Buying a tweet means purchasing “a digital certificate of the tweet, unique because it has been signed and verified by the creator,” according to Valuables.

In Dorsey’s case, the tweet itself remains visible to all, so long as he and Twitter leave it online.

The approach is much like the online sales of dramatic digital “moments” from National Basketball Association games; the short video sequences remain visible for free on the internet but a blockchain-backed “Non-Fungible Token” (NFT) is generated to guarantee the identity, authenticity and traceability of the video, confirming its value.

Thus, a 10-second clip showing a spectacular sequence by basketball superstar LeBron James fetched $208,000 on the NBA Top Shot site late last month.

Top Shot has generated more than $200 million in transactions this year, according to Dapper Labs, which partnered with the NBA to create Top Shot.

In 2019, Sun paid $4.6 million in a winning bid to lunch with iconic billionaire Warren Buffett. Sun reportedly tried but failed to convince the elderly investor of the value of bitcoins.

NFTs have soared in popularity, to the point that prestigious auction house Christie’s last month sold an entirely digital artwork.

  • Twitter CEO Says Africa Will Define The Future

Twitter CEO Says Africa Will Define The Future

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and mobile payments company Square has said that he is moving to Africa for at least three months next year.

He stated this after winding up his trip in Ethiopia this week, as part of a month-long tour across the continent. He tweeted that would be meeting with entrepreneurs in Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa.

Yesterday, Jack Dorsey tweeted his farewell to Africa and announced that he would return for 3-6 months mid-2020.

Jack has talked about the future and bitcoin in Africa. Last week we published why Kenya is slowly becoming a cryptocurrency and blockchain world. Jack will probably be in Kenya next visit and the same bitcoin will be on the table. I can’t deny or accept that Dorsey’s trip to Africa signals a change.

By the way, he was not the only tech guru traveling to Africa. Former Alibaba Group chairman Jack Ma was also in Ethiopia this week, signing an agreement to establish a new trade platform.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Bans All Political Ads From His App

Twitter founder and CEO has announced that all paid political advertisements will be banned from the platform as soon as next month.

Jack also states that online political campaigns or ads have introduced unparalleled risks such as unchecked misleading information and deep fakes at an alarming rate.

Dorsey requested for enhanced political ad regulation and transparency saying that regulators need to think past the present day to ensure a level playing field.

The move by Twitter to ban political ads from its platform has left world leading APP Facebook on the spotlight. Mark Zuckerberg-led company has been facing backlash after a move to exempt politicians from fact-checking by third parties. • Twitter Founder and CEO Jack Dorsey’s Account Hacked

Twitter Founder and CEO Jack Dorsey’s Account Hacked

Yesterday afternoon Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s Twitter account was hacked by a group that calls itself the Chuckle Squad.

Chuckle Squad Used Jack’s account to tweet racial slurs, antisemitic messages and at least one catastrophic denial from Dorsey’s account.

Some offensive tweets were up for about 10 minutes, though not long after the hack began, those tweets were already being deleted, and they’re all gone now. Here are some screenshots of those tweets

Roughly an hour and a half after the hack, Twitter tweeted that the account is now secure, and there is no indication that Twitter’s systems have been compromised.

Later, Twitter pointed the blame at Dorsey’s cell carrier, saying that the phone number associated with the account was compromised due to security oversight by the mobile provider, which apparently allowed the hackers to send the tweets using text messages.

The phone number associated with the account was compromised due to a security oversight by the mobile provider. This allowed an unauthorized person to compose and send tweets via text message from the phone number. That issue is now resolved.

Twitter however said that they have settled the issue and all other accounts are safe and were not affected .

Today’s hack appears to be from the same group that attacked a number of YouTube celebrities last week on Twitter, including Gay beauty vlogger James Charles, Shane Dawson, and comedian King Bach. The hackers also allegedly gained access to the late Desmond “Etika” Amofah’s Gmail account, as seen by screenshots collected in their Discord server.
