Amina Mohamed’s Fate At The African Union Chair Battle

Africa heads of state are currently in Addis Ababa Ethiopia discussing numerous topics across from geopolitics to security and electing new leaders. Already Guinean President has been elected AU Chair replacing the incumbent who was the Chad’s President.

The focus that has Kenyans full attention is the Africa Union Commission that CS Amina is going for. The chair of the AU Commission has a lot of weight in setting the global agenda, including trade, good governance, institutionalizing democracy, intra-African trade, peace, and security.

Other candidates in the race include Senegal’s Abdoulaye Batily, the choice of the 14-member Ecowas bloc, Chad’s Mousssa Faki Mahamat and Equatorial Guinea’s Agapito Mba Mokuy for Central Africa, and Botswana’s Pelomi Venson-Moitoi for Southern African Development Community.

A winner, according to the rules, should garner at least two-thirds of the votes by the 53 members, excluding Morocco, which is expected to make a return to the African Union after a 36-year ‘self-exile” from the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in protest over the body’s support for the Polisario Front and its recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic as an independent state.

The election which is a closed door affair is kept away from the media lenses, and Kenya Insights sources reveal that Amina’s fate and the results to be made announced by 7 pm local time. Voting currently underway.

  • Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok Grabs DP Ruto By The Collar Over Sh12B Misappropriation Remark He Made

Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok Grabs DP Ruto By The Collar Over Sh12B Misappropriation Remark He Made

    By TCG

Recent remarks by Deputy President William Ruto on a perceived “lack of priority” by the County Government of Turkana in service delivery is erroneous, mischievous and will not go unchallenged.
Therefore, the TCG wishes to state the following:
In his tour of the county, the DP has proven in his utterance and actions of his complete disrespect of the County Government of Turkana and its leadership. His itinerary included visits to County Funded health and water projects but without the courtesy of informing or inviting the host government.

Ruto has refused to see any good in the performance of the County Government and despite existence of an intergovernmental framework of coordination and consultation between the two levels of government, he has kept Turkana County Government in the dark on his visitation. Instead, he has resorted to attacking the Governor at every opportunity through roadside political propagandas.

It has also not gone unnoticed to Kenyans and to the residents of Turkana that this unwarranted attacks on the county government is part of a bigger plan to install a weak administration on the Turkana people, a leadership that he can manipulate and one that can easily bend to wishes and goal of plundering resources of Turkana unabated.

In his utterance, the DP failed to provide a satisfactory answer to the Turkana people on the pertinent question of division of oil benefits the Jubilee Government is behind the attempt to disposes the Turkana of oil benefits through a punitive legislation such as the changes proposed to amend the Petroleum Bill 2016.

William Ruto has been part of the last three regimes that ignored the plight of the Turkana people. He was in government during the reign of KANU, he served as a minister in the government of NARC and later the Grand Coalition Government now as the seating Deputy President in the Jubilee Administration. These regimes have made no sustainable effort to support the Turkana development agenda, and it therefore raises the question, why the renewed interest in Turkana affairs?

Under the Jubilee Government, insecurity in Turkana County has deteriorated to unprecedented levels.
The attack on the leadership of Governor Josphat Nanok adds to a trend of the DP attacking strong leadership and other ODM Governors across the country.

This in our opinion is a futile attempt to divert the attention of Kenyans to the monumental failure by the Jubilee administration to deliver on promises it made to Kenyans.

Ruto’s roadside projects declarations are just but empty rhetoric meant to deceive the Turkana electorates. A good example is a grid power that was promised to the people of Lokichar before last general election and which is yet to materialize four years and counting.

Anyone in his right sense would question why these promises are coming at the end of five years and at general election campaigns.
The Turkana County Government achievements can best be enumerated against targets in the CIDP, I will list but a few.

    In the four years of existence;
The county government has constructed more than 200 ECDE centers across the County, which have been equipped and teachers recruited to the centres, a factor that has improved access to education in Turkana. During our last recruitment of 300 teachers in 2015, it even donated 200 teachers to primary and secondly school after an appeal from education stakeholders in the County.

To boost pastoral economy for the largely nomadic people of Turkana, we have resourced the purchase of veterinary drugs, equipment and vaccines in the last financial year alone.

We have also completed over 150 boreholes and continue to repair many others boreholes, and aim to construct two dams in every ward.
The process of utilization of Napuu aquifer in the construction of Napuu water project is underway and with the remaining works consisting of construction of storage facilities and pipeline systems.
The county is also upgrading high yielding boreholes to solar systems in over 50 sites.

To boost food security, we are establishing new irrigation schemes, the Nakwamoru irrigation scheme and at Lomidat spate dam in Turkana West, with construction of model drip irrigation system in Kapese in Lokichar, Lobei in Loima, Kachoda in Lapur and Nakukulas in Turkana East in the pipeline.

So far, 250 hectares of land has been utilised for crop production which has benefitted over 5000 people with an aim of scalping this upto to 830 hectares.
During this past financial year, 3633 acres of land have been utilized for cereals production, yielding over 50,000 bags of maize and sorghum per harvest.
On health, change of status from a District Hospital to a County Referral Hospital was a flagship project of the county government through which the diagnostic capacity of the hospital has been expanded with the main lab receiving state of the art equipment. This includes an oxygen plant, CT scan, medical supplies logistics unit (store), new modern mortuary, cold chain for vaccines all of which have greatly reduced mortality rates, the number of referrals outside the county as well as raising the quality of health service delivered.

The county government has also upgraded over 30 dispensaries to Health Centres, constructed 90 new dispensaries and other 30 dispensaries ongoing.
Over 670 health workers have been recruited and deployed across the county, 13 lifesaving ambulances have been procured.

The Ministry of Health is procuring container clinics to serve nomadic communities which will be placed along migratory routes. This will improve access to healthcare services to our nomadic pastoral communities.

In the current Financial Year, Turkana County Government has distributes two relief cycles countywide with a total of 900,000 beneficiaries.
The Food quantity per cycle was as follows: 40,000 of 50kg bags of cereals, 10,000 of 50kg bags of pulses, 10,000 20litre jerry cans of vegetable oil.

The County has also, in partnership with relief partners such as Kenya Red Cross, World Vision, Oxfam, Unicef, World Food Program, National Disaster Management Authority, Save the Children and others, responded to emergencies with supplementary food distribution, fuel subsidy, aquatabs, and other non-food items.

Access to solar power to public utilities has also improved through the government’s efforts to fit each of these institutions with solar power systems.
In a move aimed at improving trade and nurturing the entrepreneurship spirit across the county, 14 market stalls have been built in all the six sub-counties.
Even with the above, there still exists an elaborate process in place to account for public funds and systems to deal with perceived abuse or misuse of the same, all of which we believe are known to the DP.

However, since the case he has against Turkana County Government lacks merit and is without basis, he has taken the less honourable route of political propaganda.

Besides, DP Ruto lacks the moral ground to lecture anyone on matters integrity and financial probity since almost each and every scandal on the Kenyan soil can be traced to him and individuals associated with him.

Successive regimes subjected the Turkana people to skewed development for long periods since independence, leaving a heap of problems that requires monumental financial resources for the region to catch up with the rest of Kenya.
Therefore what the County Government requires is complementary support from the National Government, not admonition meant to settle political scores.

  • KDF Military Base In Somalia Overrun By Al Shabaab Claiming 57 Soldiers Killed

KDF Military Base In Somalia Overrun By Al Shabaab Claiming 57 Soldiers Killed

The Somalia militant group once again has attacked a KDF’s military camp killing several soldiers. The attack took place on Thursday early hours in Kulbiyow town according to Reuters.

The attack has coincidentally happened in the same style as El Adde that also left over 150 KDF soldiers murdered. Today’s deadly attack involved two bomb trucks targeting the camp before the militants laid violent fire ambush. Some sources within Somalia are describing the exchange between Kenyan soldiers and the militants as dead battle hinting at a possibility that the soldiers were caught unawares. The entire scenario reflects the El Adde.

    https://twitter.com/Daudoo/status/824856001497096192

The number of casualties is still unclear with Al Shabaab taking advantage of Government of Kenya’s silent to sell their propaganda of having killed 57 Soldiers. KDF officials have however in early reports denied having suffered casualties despite several sources indicating otherwise.

“We are pursuing the Kenyan soldiers who ran away into the woods,” Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab’s military operation spokesman, told Reuters about Friday’s attack.

“Two mujahideen (fighters) rammed suicide car bombs into the base in Kulbiyow town before storming it,” he said, adding that alongside counting 57 Kenyan bodies the group seized vehicles and weapons. “We have taken over the base.”

Locals tell the media that militants walked away with the cache of firearms from the deadly attack that has left several KDF bodies littered along the streets. KDF has deployed a backup team to launch rebuttal attacks. El Adde attack coincidentally happened in January with no Official truth forthcoming to date. We will update as the need develops.

  • Kenya It Is Time To Run Away From First Lady’s Beyond Zero Campaign And To Never Look Back

Kenya It Is Time To Run Away From First Lady’s Beyond Zero Campaign And To Never Look Back

Before things get nasty here in microseconds, lemme say Beyond Zero was a well-thought initiative with good public face intentions but dark intent by pioneers. The movement worked in the favor that its a constant reminder to Margaret’s husband of the poor public health-care system and how her father-in-law failed to secure better health system.

Beyond Zero was started by the First Lady to supplement services that the husband was elected to do. Ladies and gentlemen, It’s every government’s duty to ensure a secure, healthy environment for its citizens but here was the First Lady supplementing the work at the same time exposing the failures in hubby’s government. If resources were to be well-utilized meaning zero tolerance to corruption, You can bet all the marathon energy would be directed elsewhere since hospitals would be well equipped and sufficient doctors distributed.

It would be selfish not to mention positive impacts that the campaign has made. These clinics have made it possible to take maternal healthcare closer to the people as they can go to the most remote parts to offer services to women and children to tackle the mother and infant mortality rates. Indiscriminate distribution of the clinics throughout the Counties in a country evident with favouritism, I must recommend her for the kind gesture.

The primary focus of the Beyond Zero Campaign is to reduce to zero preventable maternal and child mortality in Kenya. This is achieved by the campaign’s role to raise awareness and galvanize support toward combating maternal and infant mortality.

First Lady crossing the line during last year's beyond zero marathon
First Lady crossing the line during last year’s beyond zero marathon

While it has served its purpose, It has again opened a Pandora box, understaffed hospitals. A good number of the distributed clinics have been reported having stalled as soon as they were delivered. Common problems being the lack of staff and equipment. It’s the same public hospital practitioners charged with the duty of running the mobile clinics which then brings me to the next point. The initiative wasn’t well conceptualized on the long-term and sustainability concept rather majored in the face value for the cameras and hype and for winning Awards.

It’s not unusual to be labeled enemy of progress whenever you question projects like Beyond Zero since people are blinded to chew on anything without looking a second time. Sustainable solutions never miss achieving significantly, showbiz solutions last as long as the camera’s batteries have power. Earlier last year, Statehouse with little details revealed that the First Lady was initiating construction of a Beyond Zero state of the art referral hospital to concentrate on mothers and children healthcare at the cost of 2 2B the project is yet to start.

The First Lady being shown the Beyond Zero referral hospital model
The First Lady being shown the Beyond Zero referral hospital model

While this sounds orgasmic to systems supporters and blind followers, It adds to the heap of miscalculations, with a face value that would snatch a Noble Price from Obama, this project is a catastrophe if we’re to pick lessons from the past. First of all its purely self-seeking project, for the simple reason that it will add to the tally of other failed referral hospitals. Why would Kenya again spend 2.2B constructing a referral hospital yet that money can be used to upgraded the deplorable KNH? Look at Pumwani, Mbagathi, Mama Lucy both conceptualized with Beyond Zero state of mind. Years later they’re stuck and in horrible conditions. Why pump billions in a project destined to squat while you can use the amount to improve existing hospitals across the country. That’s how you get to everyone not just a cut class.

The country is currently in a healthcare tie down with a total freeze in public hospitals the solution cannot be another marathon run. It’s high time we start thinking long-term and sustainability solutions and move away from selfie campaigns that fade away with filters. We need sufficient; motivated and well paid doctors in our hospitals which should stay fully equipped.

It came as an insult that same day Doctors were facing jail time pushing for refined healthcare, first lady and her events PR turn IMG made professional sacrilege launching the marathon. Now to quick schooling, CBA that the doctors are pushing for adoption has everything that beyond zero is running for covered, and that’s a well funded and equipped health-care.

In fact, It would have been pointing scoring since that’s the whole motive to have Beyond Zero throw support behind doctors to have CBA implemented. But you know why they won’t? Beyond Zero will ONLY remain relevant as long as the state of public healthcare stays in the current despair. Which again goes to question the credibility and honesty in the beyond zero movements, is it genuinely committed in securing healthy state for all mothers and children? Where was first lady’s voice when hundreds of millions allocated to free maternity and children was stolen in the Afya House 5B scandal? Her silence was enough to answer to all doubts.

Simplified version of CBA. Exact values that Beyond Zero stands for
Simplified version of CBA. Exact values that Beyond Zero stands for

Kenya Insights has learned that Nyokabi Muthama, President’s sister who recently made headlines over her involvement in the 5B Afya House scandal, through Sundales Int Ltd received 270M from Ministry of Health in incredible deals, happens to be the Director Beyond Zero Trust.

Little is known of financial records and no financial reports issued to the public despite its magnitude. This has raised eyebrows and many questioned accountability. Beyond Zero remains one if the heavily corporate funded events in Kenya with thousands of donors. You can estimate the campaign rakes in hundreds of millions. You’ll be lucky to escape red protruding eyes coming your way if you go deeper in questioning the financial surrounding of this project.

If Margaret Kenyatta and Beyond Zero is genuinely committed to bringing to an end mortality rates, then they should join CBA campaign as this is the ONLY and most efficient, sustainable way to achieve zero deaths the rest is futile. She can organize a marathon advocating for full implementation of CBA and I bet she’ll get beyond infinity (if such exists) people running behind her. Simple message, let’s run away from face value and short time solutions as Beyond Zero and opt for long-time as CBA to solidify a better healthcare system for beyond zero deaths on preventable situations

  • Kisumu Commercial Sex Workers Stops Sleeping With Men Without Voters Card And Offer Free Services To The Registered Every Wednesday

Kisumu Commercial Sex Workers Stops Sleeping With Men Without Voters Card And Offer Free Services To The Registered Every Wednesday

The push to have maximum voters registration is in full gears across the country with politicians burning the night oil and traversing the country with the key priority of mobilizing their supporters to register ahead of August polls.

IEBC has a target of registering 6M voters in the final drive. Politicians are using numerous alternatives some even bizarre in consolidating and mobilizing voter registration, especially in their home turf. In Muranga, Kirinyaga bars holding ID cards left as leverage die unpaid alcohol debts has been ordered to release them while owners warned against serving drinks to anyone without voters cards. Women are also using sex boycott to coerce their husbands into registration.

Methods applied range with counties with governors headlining the push. In Kisumu like all counties, the governor, Ranguma is exploiting all loopholes together with allied politicians in ensuring nothing short of maximum voters registration.

Kisumu’s votes rich estates Nyalenda, Nyamasaria, Railway, Kondele, Manyatta, and Obunga have been marked and registration drive on a devil’s speed.

Governor Jack Ranguma has made a promise to reward wards that will meet the set targets with Sh1 million. Kisumu County aims to register 183,000 new voters in the ongoing exercise. Kisumu closed the latest IEBC tally of top 10 counties with 21,254 new registrations. Ranguma is also using the boda-boda riders in pushing the agenda. Word is no passenger is allowed to board any matatu and boda-boda without voters card. Other politicians are also offering free tokens to those who register as a luring tactic.

Kenya Insights has learned that the Kisumu Commercial Sex Workers union have also thrown in their support in the most conventional way to push the men in the city to register. Jane Atieno, the 36-year-old veteran in the industry and union’s spokesperson based in ‘Stage’ lane is echoing a unanimous decision by members to use their tools of the trade in pushing voters registration. The exotic workers have decided not to offer their services to those without the card as a way to coerce them into registration. “We’re also tired of omawa omawa (we’ve been rigged) after every election, everyone and their grandmother must have electors card and vote. We will not sleep with any man without a voters card, and that’s the stand we’ve taken.” Said Atieno.

They don’t stop at giving ultimatums but goes further to make it enticing by offering free services to all those with voters card, “we will offer free services every Wednesday until IEBC winds up registration. Free for those who’ve registered as voters.” Reads one of the directives from Jane in their union’s chat group seen by Kenya Insights. It’s however with a time that will tell if the resolution will take charge and eventually meet the intended results of maximum voters registration. Voter apathy is a serious issue in Kisumu that has alarmed local leaders. With many intrigues surrounding IEBC registration, one can only pray for things to get better.

Talking of IEBC and discrepancies, A dangerous loophole has been unearthed: Out of the 128,926 records of shared IDs, 107,777 show the same ID number but different names. A further analysis showed 53,671 of the IDs were shared more than once. The remaining 21,149 are for persons who attempted to register more than once at different polling stations.

The analysis further indicates the shared ID numbers could be the result of data entry errors at the time of registration, possible use of one ID to register more than once, attempted registration of more than one person using same ID or shared national ID numbers.

  • Doctors Refuse To Succumb To The State’s Jail Blackmail, Things To Get From Worse To Worst With Officials In Prison

Doctors Refuse To Succumb To The State’s Jail Blackmail, Things To Get From Worse To Worst With Officials In Prison

The Government has displayed open dishonesty in solving the health standoff that is on its 51st day running and instead opted for blackmail tactics through sustained propaganda in doctors painting them as selfish and unpatriotic. There has been a maintained script demonizing doctors throughout the strike period on various media platforms with Twitter taking the lead with paid pro-government ‘bloggers’ pushing government rhetoric on doctors say in.

Doctors, however, have shown extraordinary resilience and focus through this course that now leaves them at a stage of serving a month jail term over contempt of court that demanded them to call off the strike. It’s important to note at this point that this is a traditional arm-twisting move using the judiciary to intimidate and coerce officials heading industrial standards to submission. KMPDU officials are a rare breed that studied the game well before the coaches.

KMPDU officials have made a resolve to raather serve jail term of that's the cost a better public healthcare system will take
KMPDU officials have made a resolve to raather serve jail term of that’s the cost a better public healthcare system will take

In their propaganda, the government has deliberately ignored the elements of CBA that were engineered to overhaul the pathetic state of public healthcare that has been on its deathbed for over 50 years. Instead, they’ve focused on the salary component which is just but a leaf from the pages. This is a psychological warfare to incite the public against doctors. Luckily enough and thanks to social media since mainstream is under anesthesia, doctors took to social media giving their personal experiences working in public hospitals, deplorable. CBA in entirety seeks to make the working environment the doctors better, and public get quality healthcare that has now become the reserve of private institutions.

    IMG_20170125_110114 IMG_20170125_110100

With Thursday deadline given by magistrate Lucy to call off the strike collapsing in few hours, KMPDU officials have resolved to serve the one-month jail term with a no deal smoke coming from failed talks with government staff members who’re unsurprisingly pointing fingers at the doctors union. The jailing of the officials is set to open a new layer of flame with things going from bad to horrible. Jailing the officials for a month would mean the strike not being called off for that period and no surety that it would end with their release at the end of the term.

The Government is charged with ensuring health security to its citizens and its a shame the country has moved 50+ days without doctors in hospitals and yet the President and his deputy shamelessly still have the audacity to put the sick society through massive voters drive and giving zero hoots on their health state. In fact, the President recently made it clear that voters registration is the top priority giving the doctors standoff a horse kick. Here you’re on your own as a voter who elevated them to power. When ruling class get sick with minor bruises they’ll fly abroad as for You; you’ll walk into an empty hospital and die.

    https://twitter.com/UKenyatta/status/822779716901961729

With hours fast dropping, will the State go ahead with their plot to jail doctors as one of their best bargaining tools or rise above ego and dick measuring to put interest of the public that they’re mandated to serve and give a treasury go ahead to implement CBA and have a healthy nation or choke with a hot potato to death with public healthcare? • Raila Odinga Unearths How NIS Is Being Used In A New Statehouse Rigging Scheme

Raila Odinga Unearths How NIS Is Being Used In A New Statehouse Rigging Scheme

    By Raila Odinga
We have credible information that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) is once again heavily involved in the on-going voter registration with the aim of influencing results in August in the same way it did in 2007 and 2013.

NIS interference in the current voter registration involves taking BVR kits across our borders into Uganda and Ethiopia and assisting citizens of the two countries to register in a Kenyan election process. The agency is also assisting citizens of these neighbouring countries to acquire Kenyan identification documents then helping them cross into Kenya and register as voters.

The NIS is also interfering with the voter registration process by having youths whose data were collected through the dubious National Youth Service exercise over the last few years and registering them as voters, without their knowledge. This NIS-driven process is responsible for the multiple registrations, shared identity cards and many cases of people who are captured as registered when indeed they had never done so.

In the 2013 elections, NIS had its officers absorbed into the ranks of the IEBC as polling clerks and other strategic positions with the sole aim of helping Jubilee attain a dubious victory. In 2007, NIS was deeply involved in ballot stuffing among other irregularities to help the PNU win.

NIS must let the IEBC do its work as an independent institution. The intelligence agency must equally operate as a politically non-partisan and independent institution whose duty it is to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and not interfere with it.

It is a disgrace and a betrayal of public trust when an institution that is supposed to safeguard the interests of the nation take the lead in undermining those very interests. Interfering with the process through which our country determines its leadership is one of the most serious crimes a public institution and more so an intelligence agency can be involved in.

We wish to make it clear to the Director-General of the NIS Major-General Philip Wachira Kameru and the entire leadership of the agency that this country will never accept another NIS-led electoral theft. NIS will break down this nation and send it to the dogs, if it continues on this path of seeking to influence election results by way of fraud.

We challenge the NIS to come clean on this matter and assure the country that it is abandoning its disgraceful involvement in the voter registration. It must do this with the full awareness that there will be no country if it does not abandon course it is currently pursuing. Kenyans are not prepared to have the NIS choose for them their next leader again.

  • Kenya’s Musicians Must Rise Above Pockets Depth And Make Political Stands While Time Exists

Kenya’s Musicians Must Rise Above Pockets Depth And Make Political Stands While Time Exists

    By Nicholas Olambo & KB

About 30 years ago the legendary record producer Quincy Jones gathered a couple of artists to create ‘We are the world.’ All time classic song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and later remixed five years ago when Haiti experienced one of the worst earth quack disasters in its history.
The remix included an array of artists of all ages and genres. Kanye was on the record, Lil Wayne, Bono, Justin Beiber, Wyclef Jean, Mary J Blige, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Jenifer Hudson, and much more. They shared a common interest to help Haiti rise from the rubbles and reconstruct.

The remix formed the campaign that called on the entire world to reach deep into their hearts to help the Haitians who were affected by the disaster. Actor George Clooney also organized a concert to raise funds towards the same course; the show featured big musical acts as Jay-Z, Rihana, and Madonna. In the end, up to 13 billion dollars was raised.

During Katrina disaster in the U.S. where residents felt Bush administration pulled a racist card leaving the New Orleans natives exposed, artists rebelled. Lil Wayne was the biggest artist then and used music to attack the Bush administration over open discrimination. Now that’s proper use of art. What’s art of it doesn’t impact the lives of the society? If your worth can’t be remembered past shake your bum beats them you’re not iconic. Contribute to the movement, decades later people still remember Tupac Shakur not just for his classical music but how he used the musical tool to strengthen the black empowerment movement. Let your music stay in the hearts by impacting lives as opposed to just mouths reciting lyrics that are soon forgotten. Art is a powerful tool that is underlooked here.

President Obama and Rapper Jay-S greet during a campaign trail.
President Obama and Rapper Jay-S greet during a campaign trail.

Freedom fighters used the magic of music and art to unite Africa and Kenyans from colonial aggression. Eric Wainaina’s ‘Daima ‘ song was instrumental in bringing people together after tragic 2007/08 PEV. Can we have disaster prevention vocal voices in the music industry? Can we have these artists actively and openly conversing about open and credible elections? Why can’t we see them feature anywhere in typical issues? They have Kenyans ears, and that’s an upper hand. But here we have closed mouths that will only open on endorsements by IEBC, Civic Education Orgs and politicians. Does this mean our artists lack self-consciousness and mere robots?

This means artists with their followings/fan base can champion better courses to find solutions to social ills, disasters and other catastrophes the nation may face. They can also provide political direction and civic education. It has happened in the United States, Jay-Z and Beyonce supported Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in the recently held elections, Kanye West helped Donald Trump. It has happened even closer home in Uganda and Tanzania.

And what do we have in Kenya; artists remain silent and contribute nothing even when the country is in a dilemma or facing disasters affecting their fans. Dear artists, you can give more than more music, you have enough following to be opinion leaders or lobbyists. You have the voice to speak against social injustice and lead drives like mass voter registration.

The doctors have been on strike for close to sixty days now; no single artist or a group of artists has made any attempt to put pressure on the government to solve the impasse. They are not aware that their fans are losing lives due to this. At the same time, millions are facing drought and starvation. Our artists can’t donate or champion campaigns to raise money and help the affected instead they sit back and wait for a politician with the fattest cheque.

Big musical acts as Rufftone have become bootlickers of ruling regimes that they stoop lowest and wait for political rallies and party launch events where they perform. Even that guy (Jaguar) who spoke against politicians in his bubble gum hit ‘kigeu kigeu’ went shut, became a sycophant and joined the monkeys in the political forest, he is now running starehe constituency seat. He is the Kigeu geu now.

Hip-hop head Juliani was the last of a dying breed who churned out hits that echoed activism. What happened to the dude after a little beef with Rabbit and Khaligraph? He must have been absorbed in Boniface Mwangi’s campaign team, Bonnie is his boss at the PAWA 254 and is also eying Starehe seat. This again gives him an opening to use his voice in stamping the young people’s agendas in politics.

Musician Jaguar in a jiggy session with President Unit at a Jubilee Party function.
Musician Jaguar in a jiggy session with President Unit at a Jubilee Party function.

We must break the ice; artists must come out of their hibernation pots and start living in this progressive activism charged Africa audience. They must go beyond making hits as themes for political parties and candidates to becoming strategic political voice alternatives. Look at how the black entertainment and a large number of Hollywood residents ganged up in anti-trump campaigns prior and post elections. You must make a political stand whether unpopular as Kanye West or popular as Jay-Z supporting Hillary. People will respect you more for standing for something than standing for everything.

Artists here are void of talent, one reason they don’t stand for anything and can’t speak against anything. Most of these cats are not signed to labels, giving them room to poetically and powerfully express truth through their lyrics. Legendary rapper KRS-One is known for educating and entertaining through his music, the founder of Stop the Violent Movement is known for working to promote the development of conflict resolution methods.

We are headed towards a serious election that is going to be fiercely fought; I expected artists to be leading peace initiatives, creating awareness and championing cohesion. They are waiting for violence to break to record a sad song and demand funding from NGO’s or their friends in government to promote peace.

These are loose and whack ninjas we have down here? Continue standing for nothing, the politicians you please will put you in their rear pockets and zip up. Let’s see if you will entertain their butts, Nigerians will always ride over you in your home grounds. Curtain raisers nyinyi. If you don’t identify with the reality in the country, then the audience shouldn’t have business identifying with you. Silence by the artists was only perpetuating backward mentality that has been churning garbage leadership of young people viewing politics as unfashionable and reserve for old people.

Politics impacts you whether you’re interested in it or not. Film industry fur example, we’ve had many big Hollywood productions turned away from Nairobi for South Africa given unfavorable business conditions in Kenya. Look at The disaster of Mutua of film board who has been hoarding for attention making juvenile directives as banning sexually suggestive stage names like seriously who stoops to such low levels of mediocrity. Ladies and gentlemen of entertainment what I’m saying is at the end of it all you’re the authors of your predicaments. Remember you’re a Kenyan first and an artist second. You’re at liberty to choose your conscious and support a political course that suits your beliefs or as well go with whoever butter your bread but keep in mind the books of history are written today.

Breakdown: Panic Grips Jubilee As NIS Warns Of Voter Apathy In Central That Would Cost Uhuru The Presidency For Raila

The campaigns for August elections has unofficially kicked off with politicians from too leadership taking advantage of The voter’s registration to mobilize their strongholds to get into the registers as the days closes in. There are panic and uncertainty in both camps as of the fate of August polls. CORD is accusing the government of putting into place rigging loopholes while Jubilee is, on the other hand, accusing the opposition of having sensed defeat in early stages and building a fallback plan to cry foul.

The idea of NASA is making Jubilee strategists burn the midnight oil with analysts warning that its formalization would deem the lights for a Uhuru second chance. A United Opposition is an unstoppable force that will quickly send jubilee parking given the numbers and also you can pick lessons from African countries as Gambia where incumbents are folding their carpets courtesy of joint opposition sending them home with morning buses. The NASA fear is so real that President’s mother, Ngina Kenyatta was forced to fly to meet former President Moi, a major Kalenjin power broker and the father to Gideon Moi who’s the KANU Chairman.

KANU has announced they’ll make their 2017 political direction under two weeks. This comes at a time when the party’s leadership has been seen as in contrast with jubilee administration and Ruto’s in particular. KANU SG Nick Salat declared that the party is deeply in the NASA movement during a recent opposition unity convention in Nairobi. The impromptu visit to Moi by Mama Ngina is plainly viewed as a desperate lobbying effort to persuade Gideon and Moi to stay in Jubilee as their support to NASA would deal a massive blow to the stability of jubilee whose existence largely depends on the Kalenjin and Kikuyu voting block, any disruption and shift of 2017 dynamics would be catastrophic to the Jubilee livelihood.

Odinga who’s seen as the most preferred NASA candidate even though that’s not the final stamp, stands a great chance winning this election given favorable voting dynamics and ethnic composition. However, the CORD principal is also known for spoiling his chances the Lady minute courtesy of his sycophants who overlook and misadvice him on several occasions losing guaranteed bets. Will he change the tactics or maintain guerilla warfare in a nuclear program? The have campaigns also offers him free publicity, if he fails to capitalize on this, would add to many squandered opportunities.

Talking of Odinga, he has become the selling point for Jubilee in their campaigns, and the party’s registration drive has made Raila fear mongering as their recruiting theme. The government is short of tangible achievements to sell to their fed up supporters and instead have resorted to the same old script of Raila hatred which has successfully worked primarily amongst the targeted Kikuyu audience.

The brainwashing strategy reigned on the poor Kikuyus engineered by the elites who’re the benefactors of power is now completely on the rail without breaks. It gets worse that the President in his full capacity while addressing the Kikuyu nation on Kameme FM a community radio, attempted to shift the blame on his failures during the first term in Raila Odinga. It was shocking that the President would stoop that low to misinform the audience who readily consume the rhetoric without proper digestion.

The President holds the tools of power and Raila is a small opposition leader, how on earth would then feign incapacity on a person without any authority in the administration. It was not only unfortunate for a President to say that but the insult to the Kenyan constitution that entrenched him with the powers to properly manage Kenya. It doesn’t come as a shocker that Jubilee and the President campaigning and using Raila phobia as a leverage and saying nothing about rampant corruption in the regime and dwindling economy and a surging unemployment rate nit to mention the lengthy health standoff.

A Jubilee Party campaign drive on Facebook ads pushing for registration of members banking on anti Raila bait

It is Not a secret that Raila hatred has been a sales tag for many politicians especially for Central and Rift Valley politicians; a Stevie Wonder analysis would tell you its this deluded phenomenon that has kept most political lives afloat in the sinking ship of ideologies. None exists other than anti-Raila. The scheming politicians have taken advantage of the respective communities gullibility. They’ll swiftly evade accountability by yelling anti-Raila slurs being orgasmic to the targets in return getting away with anything including everything. A misinformed, unquestioning voter is every fraud politicians turn on.

The National Intelligence Service according to impeccable sources speaking ti Kenya Insights, has warned the Statehouse of a new euphoria that would cost the administration a return to power after August elections. A good number of the Kikuyu population who’re the greatest targets of anti-Raila bait campaign have seen the lights and silently plotting a revolt. According to the reports, many are opting to keep off the ballot than vote in line with ‘uthamaki’ s tagline that’s being used to consolidate the communities votes. Seasoned analysts as Mutahi Ngunyi have also warned of a frustrated win should NASA formalize.

The revolt is ignited by pathetic livelihood and sufferings and lack of direct benefits from the Jubilee administration. It goes without mentioning that Kenya’s economy has been on a crippling mode and the heat felt across the political divide. There’s a ‘woke’ voter phenomenon. An informed voter who’re not buying into tribal rhetoric and conscious with performance. Jubilee strategists are hoping the anti-Raila campaign would boost their chances and win back hearts that might have escaped back to their bucket. Whether this will work is a matter of time, what’s, however, absolute is the fact that Raila fear mongering headlines Jubilee campaigns and voter apathy poses a danger. You can read the panic. Millions are being spent off and online campaigns from Google to all social media platforms. Will Jubilee strategy hold water?

  • Western Envoys Pump Sh8.5B Towards Kenya’s 2017 Elections Calls For Smooth Power Transition

Western Envoys Pump Sh8.5B Towards Kenya’s 2017 Elections Calls For Smooth Power Transition

By Heads of Mission in Kenya

The elections of August 2017 are critical to Kenya’s future. Free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections will help secure the extraordinary promise of the 2010 Constitution, strengthen democracy, and advance prosperity for all Kenyans. As partners, we stand with Kenya as it approaches these pivotal polls. And, as fellow democracies, we know that while democracy is the best form of government, it also requires constant nurturing and attention.

This means having safeguards that help us prevent political violence despite robust competition and sometimes heated debate. It means building strong institutions and a deep commitment to our Constitutions, whether written or unwritten. It means an unwavering commitment by everyone to democracy, the rule of law, and credible election processes. And, it means ensuring that vigorous — and even divisive — political competition does not descend into bloodshed, but instead results in the peaceful transfer of power or a renewed mandate for the incumbent government. The checks and balances built into our political systems are critical to sustaining healthy democracies, as are a free media and an active civil society, which hold governments accountable to the people.

Kenyans have worked hard to strengthen their democracy. Now, in this second general election under the 2010 Constitution, it is time to cement the gains and affirm again that Kenya is committed to democratic governance.

To this end, we urge the national and county governments, political parties, security services, and all Kenyans to embrace inclusive political discourse while rejecting violence and those individuals who call for it. Political parties have a responsibility to hold their members accountable to pursuing peaceful, issue-based, and corruption-free campaigns. Similarly, political leaders are at their best when they support the rule of law, commit to credible polls, refrain from misusing public resources in support of their election, and turn to the courts to resolve any disputes. While all citizens have a right to peaceful protest, no one has the right to threaten or use violence.

Security services, meanwhile, have a vital role in protecting the rights of all Kenyans, remaining politically neutral and respecting human rights, including during political demonstrations. Fair competition will strengthen Kenya’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa. However, if these elections do not reflect the democratic choices of Kenyans, they could bring the country’s progress to a halt or plunge it back into ethnic conflict.

To support credible and peaceful elections in August, we welcome the approval of the new IEBC Commissioners. Time, however, is now short and decisive action is essential. Both the IEBC Commissioners and Secretariat need support from across the political spectrum to move forward quickly with election preparations, including voter registration and education, an audit of the voters’ registry, and procurement of technology. Each step of the way, we encourage the IEBC to engage widely and communicate publicly what it is doing.

Effective democracies depend not just on government agencies, but on non-governmental institutions as well. A free media has a critical role to play as a watchdog, providing balanced coverage, and refraining from promoting messages that incite violence. Those in social media, too, have a right to speak and inform, but should not stoke hate. Civil society should be free to do its critical work, which includes supporting dialogue, informing Kenyan voters of their rights, and preventing community conflicts. Most importantly, citizens should play their role by registering and then voting.

These upcoming elections will be an important milestone for Kenya. As partners, we have proudly and publicly committed KSH 8.5 billion ($85 million) to support the election process, all of it in the form of non-partisan assistance and at the request of the Kenyan government. To be clear, this help is not programmed to influence the election for any side, political party, or candidate. Rather, our assistance supports the Kenyan people to exercise their right to vote and have their voice heard. Kenyans alone will decide who is elected.

All of our assistance is carried out transparently and in full accord with Kenyan law. Many of us have posted information about our programs on our websites. If you want to know more or if you have a question, please contact us.

As friends, our countries are doing what they can to help Kenyans hold the elections they want in 2017. But only Kenyans can ensure the polls are free, fair, peaceful, and credible. From our experience in this great country, we believe Kenyans can succeed and, in the process, set an example for Africa and the world.

Signed by the heads of mission of the following countries in Kenya: United States, United Kingdom, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, the European Union, France, Belgium, Greece, Ireland, Romania, Spain, Poland, Canada, Australia, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Slovak Republic and Portugal.

  • End of An Era: How The Deal Was Reached As Yahya Jammeh Finally Goes Into Exile From Gambia

End of An Era: How The Deal Was Reached As Yahya Jammeh Finally Goes Into Exile From Gambia

Following days of standoff and unprecedented tension, the former Gambian President and senseless ruler Jammeh who led the country for the past 22 years with iron fist finally bolted out ending the month long siege he made by ceding and rejecting December polls that saw Barrow win the presidency.

Jammeh had vowed to stay in power by all means before ECOWAS swang into action threatening to intervene with military force should he refuse to relinquish power. Barrow had to be sworn in as President in Senegal in desperate move.

Even after Barrow’s inauguration, Jammeh refused to stand down and it took personal intervention from Mauritanian and Mali presidents to persuade the long-time ruler to leave power and organise for his asylum.

Saturday might, Jammeh hid his disappointments in cosmetic smile aboard the jet to Conakry with his wife. It’s unknown where he heads and will be spending his asylum, however, what’s known is his 22 long reign is over and the Gambia can pick up the pieces to build new future with President Barrow.

  • There’s Is Life After Presidency, Why African Dictators Obsessed With Power Must Learn To Let Go And Start Living

There’s Is Life After Presidency, Why African Dictators Obsessed With Power Must Learn To Let Go And Start Living

    By Nicholas Olambo

After winning the presidency in November 2016, American real estate mogul Donald John Trump was Friday sworn in as the 45th president of the United States of America. Trump took over from Barrack Obama who has been at the White House for two terms, Obama, 55, smoothly handed over power to Trump, 70, marking the beginning of a new era.

In Africa it was a different script, the bedrock of African politics is greed, disrespect to the constitution and hunger for power at the expense of peace and citizens’ lives. Gambian new president Adama Barrow was Thursday sworn in in a neighboring country Senegal where he had gone to seek shelter after winning elections in December.

Barrow took the oath in a hastily arranged event at the Gambian embassy in Dakar. The immediate former President Yahya Jammeh conceded defeat and later changed his and refused to hand over power smoothly. Regional troops had to be sent to cross into Gambian borders to support the democratically elected president. His afterthought rejection of Barrow’s win sparked the crisis and kicked out tourist from the small nation.

Jammeh later stepped down Friday after the expiry of mid-day ultimatum when he signed a deal marking the end of his 22 years at the grip of power. He seized power in a coup in 1994. Africa is a place where rogue leaders can choose to be lifetime presidents like the case in Zimbabwe where the over aging Robert Mugabe will run and ‘win’ every election. The same is the case in Uganda, Mugabe and Yoweri Museveni have been in power since 1980 and 1986 respectively.

In Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza forced himself into a third term contrary to the law of the land. Nkurunziza is a former leader of the Hutu rebels who has been president since 2005 but is still not willing to transfer power after the expiry of his term. His illegal third term has caused unrest in his nation with several people fleeing to neighboring countries like Rwanda, but that is the least of his concerns.

His selfish interests come first, and the cowardice actions of African Union (AU) have fostered his interests. He threatened AU’s 5000 troops and AU-backed down to the sidelines while Burundi was burning.

His neighbor, Joseph Kabila of DRC (Congo), has borrowed a leaf from him, Kabila chose to stay on when he was expected to step down after the expiry of his term causing fears that spiraled into conflicts. He has been in power for two terms, and under the constitution of DRC, he was not eligible for a third term. He pushed 2016 elections to 2018 when he says he will hand over power after plunging the country into chaos.

Former Gambian President Jammeh inspecting a guard of honour. He finally agreed to relinquish power peacefully after building skirmish pressure in the country.
Former Gambian President Jammeh inspecting a guard of honour. He finally agreed to relinquish power peacefully after building skirmish pressure in the country.

DRC has struggled to stay free of conflicts since gaining self-rule from the Belgians in 1960. Kabila has stolen from public coffers and is now busy sealing the holes and hiding any possible file through which he may be found capable when he leaves office. Nkurunziza may choose to ‘forcefully’ change the law to do away with the term limit like Rwanda’s Paul Kagame did in 2015 to allow him to become a lifetime president.

That is Africa for you when other Presidents like Obama, John Dramani Mahama, Thabo Mbeki and Tanzania’s Jakaya Kikwete heed to the majority voice and take backseats. Selfish and underperforming African presidents always cling to power when in some parts of the world former presidents still play important roles in the society.

America’s 39th President Jimmy Carter through his foundation ‘The Carter Centre’ is running excellent programs. The center is improving lives, health, solving conflicts, enhancing freedom and democracy. Former South African President Thabo Mbeki is a giant solving conflict on the continent, and so is Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa. Power hungry presidents like Kabila, Nkurunziza and the likes believe in nothing but fattening their foreign accounts. They find no better role to play in the society after retirement.

Smooth transfer of power as witnessed in America and recently in Ghana should be a lesson for many African nations where incumbents believe they can not be beaten. Kenya for is instance is preparing for one of the most consequential elections. Rigging signals can be read already, mass voter registration has been turned into unofficial campaigns, and Research companies are sponsored by politicians to release opinion polls that favor parties with dwindling support.

Power come and go, and it belongs to the people who have the choice to elect the people they feel can serve them better. Leadership is beyond being at the grip of power; former presidents have roles to help the people too. If one is beaten when defending their first term, they should do the honorable thing. Accept and live to fight another day. France’s Nicholas Sarkozy was unable to secure his first term, he was beaten, he conceded, and he is now seeking a comeback through a popular vote.

President Donald Trump’s Inaugural Speech In Text

Donald Trump sworn in as 45th president
Below is the full text of President Trump’s inaugural speech:

Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans, and people of the world: thank you.

We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people.

Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for years to come.

We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done.

Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent.

Today’s ceremony, however, has very special meaning. Because today we are not merely transferring power from one Administration to another, or from one party to another – but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People.

For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost.

Washington flourished – but the people did not share in its wealth.

Politicians prospered – but the jobs left, and the factories closed.

The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.

Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s Capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.

That all changes – starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you.

It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America.

This is your day. This is your celebration.

And this, the United States of America, is your country.

What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people.

January 20th 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again.

The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.

Everyone is listening to you now.

You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement the likes of which the world has never seen before.

At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction: that a nation exists to serve its citizens.

Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves.

These are the just and reasonable demands of a righteous public.

But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system, flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.

This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.

We are one nation – and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny.

The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans.

    For many decades, we’ve enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry;

    Subsidized the armies of other countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military;

    We’ve defended other nation’s borders while refusing to defend our own;

And spent trillions of dollars overseas while America’s infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay.

We’ve made other countries rich while the wealth, strength, and confidence of our country has disappeared over the horizon.

One by one, the factories shuttered and

The Cheza Games Saga has been around for Quite some time, With Kenyans demanding for their refunds from Safaricom after they were exposed as Biggest Scammers to ever steal from Kenyans.

Exclusive News reaching Kenya Insights indicate that Safaricom-Owned Cheza Games has Partnered with SpiffX AB, Swedish Fraud Company.

SpiffX Malta Ltd with license no LGA/CL3/851/2012 given by Malta Gaming Authority den 26 April 2013. This company will not pay taxes in Kenya as the structure of the tax system allows newly established businesses or those making FDI´s Foreign Directive Investments certain tax rebates & concessions that can last up to 10 yrs with profits simply sent to the offshore companies as payments for loans from the mother company or concern holding group or as royalties. Dig & you will find.

Credible sources indicate that some Senior Safaricom Managers own Cheza games and they are the ones that Colluded to defraud Kenyans Billions in Cheza Games Saga. Probably why nobody has been Charged or arraigned in court to answer for the Charges because there was indeed Fraud.

What is with Safaricom and Tax Evasion Havens? Last Year, Popular Publication The Nairobi Law Monthly Exposed what they termed as ” Mpesa Grand Heist.”

Under the banner “M-Pesa Comes Home,” propaganda was generated suggesting that Safaricom was migrating its platform from Germany to Kenya. In fact, it was purchasing a new system (at an undisclosed sum) and re-writing the intellectual property rights over M-Pesa, completely delinking M-Pesa from its Kenyan roots and moving all profits from M-Pesa to a tax haven and out of reach of the country’s revenue authorities.’

EyeBrows have been raised over SpiffX AB which has only two employees in Sweden, and All gaming & betting activities are done from this offshore daughter firm called SpiffX Malta Ltd with license nr LGA/CL3/851/2012 given by Malta Gaming Authority den 26 April 2013.

This company will not pay taxes in Kenya as the structure of the tax system allows newly established companies or those making FDI´s Foreign Directive Investments certain tax rebates & concessions that can last up to 10 yrs with profits simply sent to the offshore companies as payments for loans from the mother company or concern holding group or as royalties.

This means Kenyans will not benefit at all courtesy of Safaricom, which has come under intense pressure from Kenyans to stop fraud from within and do something about daily Managerial hubris.

This Cements up an article that appeared in the Guardian where the Writer was questioning Aid to Africa. The Writer noted that the flow of money from rich countries to developing countries pales in comparison to the flow that runs in the other direction. The Guardian Article had a good argument that further noted that In 2012, the last year of recorded data, developing countries received a total of $1.3tn, including all aid, investment, and income from abroad. But that same year some $3.3tn flowed out of them
” Most of these unrecorded outflows take place through the international trade system. Corporations – foreign and domestic alike – report false prices on their trade invoices in order to spirit money out of developing countries directly into tax havens and secrecy jurisdictions, a practice known as “trade MIS invoicing”. Usually, the goal is to evade taxes, but sometimes this practice is used to launder money or circumvent capital controls.” What the Safaricom-Owned Cheza Games in Conjunction with the Swedish Fraud Company are trying to do. ”

The writer Finally notes that Poor countries don’t need charity. They need justice. And justice is not difficult to deliver. We could close down the secrecy jurisdictions, and slap penalties on bankers and accountants who facilitate illicit outflows the same thing Safaricom did in the Mpesa Grand Heist.

The story of Safaricom and Tax Havens doesn’t stop there. The Panama Papers Leaks revealed that Mobitelea Ventures Limited is registered in Guernsey Island, the home of corruption, money-laundering and tax evasion in the world. Mobitelea was registered in 1999, and the company’s real owners are behind two nominee firms, M/s. Mercator Nominees Limited and M/s. Mercator Trustees Limited with M/s. Messrs Anson Limited and Cabot Limited both registered in Anguilla and Antigua. The Mobitelea Story narrates a story of how Vodafone Stole 10 % of Safaricom after bribing Several Kenyan government officials including Mps . Maybe a story of another day.

How comes Safaricom Works with all these Fraud Companies if they do not work together ? Big Question.

Why I Want To Be The Next Starehe MP, Activist Boniface Mwangi Explains Motivation Behind Him Joining Politics

After lengthened fight on the system, activist Mwangi is taking the armoury to the parliament’s door by contesting to overthrow Maina Kamanda as the MP for Starehe. Since he made the announcement, many people have questioned his decision to join the murky world of politics and he’s not short of answers, here’s his statement on what guided the decision to vie for the post.

“Today is exactly two years after we reclaimed a public playground from a known land thief. Two years later the children of Lang’ata Primary School continue to use their playground as a result of #OccupyPlayGround. A clear example that a people United can never be defeated. Those in power, both past and present, continue to ignore what citizens go through everyday. I want to take the people’s voice to parliament where they have been ignored for far too long. I have always challenged our leaders for their bad decisions and failed governance. I have done this as an active citizen and a patriot. It is time to take the fight to parliament, where we, the people, need our voices heard.

I am vying for the parliamentary seat of STAREHE constituency. I am contesting for this seat because I want to take the fight from the streets into parliament, where decisions are made. I grew up in Starehe and lived there for almost half of my adulthood. All my life I have worked in the Nairobi’s Central Business District, both formally and informally. While my work has given me both a national and global outlook into issues, my ‘roots’ have remained in Starehe.

The people of Starehe need jobs, water, sanitation, security, food, good education and health care, as do all Kenyans. The majority of Kenyans are not rich people, and we can no longer afford to give outrageous salaries and benefits to public officials. It does not make sense for 45 million Kenyans to spend more than ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT BILLION SHILLINGS (108,000,000,000) per year on salaries and allowances for 2222 MCAs, 349 MPs and 67 Senators. Kenyans are “overrepresented” and there is almost nothing to show for all the “representation”.

We need to cut down on the so-called ‘privileges’ of parliamentarians. We need to ensure the delivery of basic constitutional rights to the people of Starehe and the people of Kenya. A reduction of these privileges can be actualized if we all demand that those vying in 2017 be willing to take a 50% pay-cut, have no bodyguards and receive no free car grant. Scrap the private medical cover all politicians get. How else would they improve the health sector if they never interact with it? They should be registered for NHIF and should receive medical care in the country at public facilities.

All Kenyans lives matter. The people of Starehe deserve better. Public servants should not be an exemption but an example. A pay cut is an example of how public servants who earn more than they should can ensure that more money is available for education and our teachers, for health and our doctors and for the police who ensure our security. The media should push to make the MPs’, MCAs’, and Senators’ 50% pay-cut part of the agenda during this campaign period. H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon. Raila Odinga should also make the pay-cut agenda part of their manifestos.

We need to tackle wastage and theft in both the county of Nairobi and National governments. Our government is bloated and l shall push and support the reduction of the number of MPs and MCAs. Theft, through corruption has to be fought. I will fight against corruption. I will fight land grabbers and reclaim stolen public land. We need to ensure that resources go towards uplifting the lives of all the people of Kenya.

Starting in February I will be doing a meet-the-people tour to talk and listen to the people of Starehe. It is their thoughts and hopes that will inform my agenda and give direction to how I will work with MCAs’ and the Governor of Nairobi in their county agenda.

Only after I have completed this listening tour will I officially launch my campaign.

I urge all Kenyans to register to vote in large numbers. “BAD LEADERS ARE ELECTED BY GOOD CITIZENS WHO DO NOT VOTE”. Refusing to vote is NOT COOL. Mass voter registration started on 16th January and continues till 15th February 2017. Go and register OR change to the constituency you want to vote in. To transfer a polling station, go the registration point of the constituency office you are transferring to.

You are a Starehe voter if you live in the following wards: Nairobi Central, Ngara, Pangani, Ziwani/Kariokor, Landimawe, Nairobi South (South B-Mukuru slums). You are a Starehe voter if you hadn’t planned to vote but this post gave you hope that things can change. Register to vote in Starehe and elect me as MP.

I pledge to remain: A Fighter. Courageous. Consistent. Patriotic.

    Tumechoka! LazimaTusikizwe! RohoJuu!

Gambia: Yahya Jammeh No longer The President, Agrees To Step Down But Refusing To Leave Country, Gambia Army Joins ECOWAS In His Ouster

The disgraced and psychopath former Gambian President Jammeh has not only held the little country hostage but the entire world for the past hours following his hard card in power transition. Jammeh a former soldier who vowed to rule the country for a billion years couldn’t come to terms that after 22 years it was a wrap did him. He surprised everyone when he ceded defeat to an opposition in the December polls only to take a short time and refused elections polls he had previously endorsed.

The West Africa countries were not buying into his murky business and plot to cling to power, and they went on shuttle diplomacy in a bid to convince the tyrant to vacate office and avoid peace disruption but as you’d expect of a ruthless behaviour not blessed with wisdom, He turned down the pleas and offered including asylum. This led to ECOWAS mobilizing their troops to aid forceful power transition to the opposition leader.

Jammeh was given an ultimatum of midnight on Wednesday or face military invasion. The time lapsed and despite Mauritanian President, Mohamed Aziz’ s last minute intervention to secure his safe exit, Jammeh on his unwarranted stubbornness, refused to vacate office. As of press time, Jammeh has ceased being recognized as the legitimate President with Barrow now recognized as the President of Gambia.

Sources are indicating that Jammeh and Aziz struck a deal where the former Gambian President agreed to step down under unsaid conditions and have demands for his exit. Aziz them few to Senegal where he met the President of the country in Dakar together with President Barrow for debriefing and organize for his exit plan.

ECOWAS and Barrow team have insisted his inauguration must happen today even though there are uncertainties clouding the events as to where it would be held. According to several reports, It would occur at Gambian Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria. However, different reports say the Barrow transition team have insisted the swearing in must happen on Gambian soil.

Jammeh has been left on his own with nearly everyone from the Vice President to ministers abandoned him. The army is greatly divided regarding loyalty, and with a small size of 2500 soldiers, The lunatic has least strength to counter an ECOWAS attack with their large contingency. Jammeh is being guarded by foreign mercenaries he has flown in. The Gambia Army general announced that they were not going to engage in armed resistance to the ECOWAS troops instead they were joining them in the plot to remove the disgraced dictator from any string of power.

    Jammeh’s spokesman announcement:

The story is still building and will be updated as it goes, as of now, Jammeh is still in the country even though his family left ages ago to Morocco. Time will tell his end game.

Voters Importation Tops Nairobi’s And Other Counties’ Winning Strategies, Sh.400M Set Aside For The Dirty Exercise

    By Nicholas Olambo

The battle lines have been drawn, and it’s no doubt August polls are going to be a do or die affair for the significant political divides. Like any other election, they are going to be tribal of course, but 2017 presents a different scenario where ‘tyranny of numbers myth’ may be obsolete. The believers in the myth are not old dogs; they still have more dirty tricks up their sleeves to roll out.

Nairobi gubernatorial position currently held by the opposition (ODM/Cord) is going to be fiercely fought. Jubilee badly needs this seat. In working out ways to acquire the numbers to trounce opposition, the ruling party has resorted to ‘voter importation’ in the just kicked out mass voter registration exercise by the IEBC.

Politics is a game of numbers they say, sources close to KI have revealed that voters are being ferried from Counties neighboring Nairobi to register in an attempt to get the numbers to unseat Governor Evans Kidero. Jubilee top brass has over the time said that they must win Nairobi top job come rain or shine.

It’s said that through boardroom arrangements they have settled on former Gatanga Mp Peter Kenneth as their candidate to face off with Kidero. To give life to the pathetic political career of PK who is JP’s sacred cow, hundreds of thousands of voters are being brought in from outside to register as voters. This is not the first time this kind of electoral malpractice is witnessed, last year during a similar registration exercise the same happened when strangers were brought in a bus to register as voters in Kariobangi causing chaos as residents resisted.

Now politicians will tell you that elections are won way before the elections day, and this is one way how. Politics is a dirty game, big boys can get away with murder in light of the day, tribal chiefs, party leaders and their sycophants will lie to you that Nairobi should accommodate other tribes as well when they treat other tribes as second citizens.

This is nothing but ‘raping democracy,’ voters can not be imported from elsewhere to sway decision and silence the voice of the residents. Candidates have been imposed on Nairobians from outside, proven weak and dumped to either keep their day job or go back upcountry and vie there, say Eugine Wamalwa.

The electorate in Nairobi is taken for a ride and being thrown in dirty political trick bags. People should stand and resist this, it’s unfortunate that we are living in times when we have ‘commercial activists’ and the few real ones who would be left have been swallowed in tribal cocoons. The next governor of Nairobi may not reflect the voice of Nairobians.

Doctors Water Down Government’s Blackmailing By Telling Personal Cringing Stories Exposing Deplorable State In Public Hospitals

The government has been on a stretch devising all witchhunt and blackmailing tactics as their negotiation language to arm-twist the striking doctors back to work. The malignant psychological campaign has been consistent with a script of portraying them as selfish for demanding implementation of CBA. It’s unsurprising that the government has deliberately ignored other components of the 2013 agreement and chose to major in on salary increment which is a fraction of the document that was drafted to solve the deplorable state of the public healthcare.

The Government has baited the KMPDU officials with jail threats hanging over their head, leverage that was planted in their heads through executive court orders. But the house seems to be crumbling on the government which has least prioritized healthcare with the strike stretching to 45 days and going, the latest project by the state through their 36 online mercenaries was met with blacking out punches from Kenyans and doctors.

KMPDU statement detailing the truth on CBA away from GoK’sGoK’s propaganda

#MyBadDoctorsExperiences was crafted by the government with the aim of showing how selfish doctors are in public perceptions setting agenda. What they didn’t know they served a blessing in disguise to the defiant and tired doctors a blessing in disguise. They raided and ran down the hashtag by highlighting their experiences giving the public a rare view of the horrible and deplorable conditions the doctors are forced to go through in the public hospital. What was meant to shame doctors turned out to shame the government for not prioritizing better public healthcare. While CS Mailu is issuing wet dream directives as importing foreign doctors and using missionary hospitals to square health standoff, The stories shared by doctors will leave your jaws on the floor. The Nairobi Hospital former CEO was a BAD mistake being elevated to MoH CS, and combination with PS Muraguri is a lethal concoction to public health.

The doctor’s experiences. If the government can’t see the need to improve healthcare with all these them, the public can help them by relieving them of duty.

  • Negotiated Democracy: Opportunists At Large, How Jubilee Candidates Will Share Power In Nairobi As They Combine Forces To Dethrone Kidero

Negotiated Democracy: Opportunists At Large, How Jubilee Candidates Will Share Power In Nairobi As They Combine Forces To Dethrone Kidero

    By Kenya Insights Team

I was at the Nasa/Cord event at the Bomas where the opposition leaders gathered to make serious steps towards realizing a united front to challenge Jubilee in the coming August polls. Two days later I attended the Jubilee event at the Kasarani stadium where the aspirants gathered in the launch of the party’s membership smart card.

The two events presented nothing extraordinary of the country’s tribal politics and greed to keep or ascend to power, the contents of the two events would only find a better place in the gutter press or a gossip rag, so KI did not report on them.

Jubilee was simply reacting to shock waves presented by a possible united opposition and their thirst to topple ODM/opposition from Nairobi’s top job by whatever means necessary. Speaker’s at the event like the dismally performing Nairobi Women rep. Rachel Wambui Shebesh pulled the unwanted tribal card. She claimed that Nairobi should be accommodative to other tribes too. What are other tribes too and which tribe is disadvantaging other tribes in Nairobi?

Anyway, she is basic and was simply referring to a tribal calculation that would divide opposition votes for the Nairobi gubernatorial race to at least open a window to beat the incumbent, Dr. Evans Kidero. She can’t say the same about the presidency that is in a way rotating between tribes or one tribe back to back.
Jubilee gubernatorial aspirants announced at the event that they had settled on a negotiated democracy to produce a candidate that would face ODM’s Kidero.

Kidero is the man to beat, and his party has also made it clear through it’s Nairobi branch chairman George Aladwa. He said that the party will allow Kidero defend his seat unopposed (within the party, no nominations). Kidero has been faulted for doing the shoddy job and administered corruption. He has amassed so much wealth within his short term just like other jubilee operatives that he’s become uncontrollably too powerful. Kidero has so much money that removing him from power is not a lick of honey; he’s deeply rooted that Jubilee has spent sleepless nights on how to get him off the seat that controls half of Kenya’s GDP. Miguna baptized him the Dean of corruption.

Sometimes the difference between ODM and Jubilee is the same. ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga is a renown king of endorsing and forcing candidates on the electorate. Jubilee has a borrowed a leaf and as much as they are preaching about free, fair, just and credible nominations to be conducted by IEBC, many speakers’s at their event urged other aspirants in 46 counties to copy the Nairobi example.

Days after the event its was clear, Kenya Insights sources privy to Jubilee have learnt that former Gatanga Mp Peter Keneth will be given the gubernatorial ticket, other aspirants like Mike Sonko will defend his Senate seat, Dennis Waweru, a bitter and weak candidate who thought he’d walk his way to the helm quickly has learnt the political dynamics hard way and chocking swallowing his pride will slice his ego and defend his parliamentary seat which he also stands slim chances given his pathetic track record in development.

Sakaja who had bigger ambitions than his status and thought he’d break the power walls with a catfight and learnt the rocky way to humble down will be given a president advisor job and Bishop Magret Wanjiru (BMW) with her small degree and street mentality, the fraud bishop with garbage development record and heap of scandals including National Housing Corporation where she’s alleged to have stolen two houses, the masters pursuant with no idea of what a dissertation is, will get a CS job.

Wamalwa, therefore, will remain Water CS, even though reliable Intel indicates he would be going for Trans Nzoia gubernatorial even though he made the announcement, the stand is yet to be affirmed as February deadline approaches and in an attempt to divide opposition vote, former Town Clerk Philip Kisia will deputize PK. Kenya Insights is reliably informed by Jubilee power circles that the anointed candidate for the governorship is PK since his brand is appealing across and easily saleable.

We gather the other contestants are only piling pressure and buying time forming a cosmetic unity for the simple reason of increasing their bargaining power. Someone like Sonko we’re told is asking up to Sh.1B to withdraw his candidature. But if Uhuru withdraws his support from the Senator he stands a clear chance losing both Senate and gubernatorial. In previous elections Sonko scored 600K votes and Uhuru 400K the excess 200K which Sonko got from Kamba vote is what he’ll be left with, with the elections set to be tribal, he stands minimal chances. His only choice, towing the line or be outpaced.

For ethnic balancing, Shebesh who’sa Kikuyu won’t be going for Women Rep as Kenneth is on the race, Rachel who has close to nothing to show for her stay in the helm of power has been poised to contest did a parliamentary seat that is yet to be unveiled and most probably a Senate nomination. Shebesh will delegate her seat to Millie Omanga ,Nairobi’ s most famous MCA walking around with bank notes abdbus said to be using her big posterior as her bargaining tool. Being a Kisii,Omanga is negotiated to be the next women rep.

Negotiated democracy is not suitable for development; it offers an opportunity for party chiefs and dictators to crash other aspirants dreams as they award their die-hard sycophants with roles they can’t play. Awarding sycophants and friends gave this country the worst, incompetent and sleeping ministers like Joseph Ole Lenku who was picked straight from the kitchen to head interior docket. He only saw a burning mattress in his short stint.

But in this case, negotiated democracy from both Jubilee and Cord will leave Nairobi electorates with corruption-tainted leaders to choose from. Other than crippling Mumias sugar company, Kidero has been accused of massive corruption in Nairobi and bribing the Supreme Court judge, Philip Tunoi with SHS 200 million to rule in his favor in a petition case.

PK is tainted too, an independent candidate in the gubernatorial race and Raila’s former aide Miguna Miguna in a tweet said that he has high voltage information linking Peter Kenneth to corruption. The aspiring governor claims Peter Kenneth is not as clean as Kenyans may think.“To my brother @Peter_Kenneth, welcome to the 2017 Nairobi gubernatorial race. I’m going to open your corruption files soonest”.

His stint at the KFF has been described as deplorable, and while at the helm at Kenya Re, the soft-spoken PK nearly sold it to Monarch Insurance and Zimbabwe Reinsurance Corporation. This guy who rose to fame while dating former Aldai Mp Sally Kosgei was stopped by a court order and protesting opposition MPs.

The negotiated democracy still leaves Nairobians with Sonko for a senatorial position, despite his pathetic behavior, arrogance, and use of graphic language in public or Senate chambers. His name also featured in the famous list of fame where that included 175 corrupt government officials.

  • How The Untold Differences Within Jubilee Could Hand Over Power To A United Opposition On A Silver Plate

How The Untold Differences Within Jubilee Could Hand Over Power To A United Opposition On A Silver Plate

    By Nicholas Olambo
Kenya is always in a campaign mode even a day after a general election. Two significant political divides are preparing and promising to beat their opponents hand down in the coming polls in August, preparations have been ongoing since 2013 when we had the last general elections.

Jubilee emerged winners in the 2013 elections; opposition challenged the results in court, but the verdict maintained status quo. They then resorted to poking holes in the leadership style of Jubilee, revealing every corruption scandal. The opposition has made corruption their campaign agenda.
As expected, nearing election period is when the most important political realignments are witnessed; the opposition is forging a united front to dethrone Jubilee from power, something similar to the 2002 NARC that defeated KANU’s Uhuru and ended Moi’s 24-year rule.

A fast forming united opposition (NASA) has sent strong political shock waves in Jubilee; the ruling regime is in an evident panic mode. It has slim chances of retaining power if they have to face a united opposition in the coming polls.
While addressing the nation on Jamhuri day, the president accused the West of working to influence the outcome of the coming elections by financing opposition through NGO’s. That saw the deregistration of IFES; An American organization that supports citizens’ rights to participate in free and fair elections. IFES had been in the country conducting civic education for over a decade undertaking the same exercise in collaboration with the electoral body ECK/IEBC.

These are desperate moves to create another narrative that the West are opposed to them being in power the same way ICC issue was twisted to blackmail ignorant citizens. The tyranny of numbers myth has no place in the coming election which is seen as the most consequential in the history of Kenya.

A united opposition leaves no room for vote spoiler candidates, Musalia Mudavadi who was used for the same is now in the frontline of Nasa. It’s said that elections are won way before the polling day, Jubilee while launching their membership smart card were chest thumping that they have the numbers to beat the opposition with a 70+1 % of the votes.

The launched smart card is aimed at ensuring a smooth, credible, just and fair nominations that will be conducted by IEBC. But on the other hand, the ruling coalition is fronting for a negotiated democracy to produce the candidate for Nairobi gubernatorial race. They say Nairobi is must win county by hook or crook.

The panic is intense in Jubilee, from the introduction of draconian election laws that their Speaker Justin Muturi passed in a chaotic special session, constant wrangles with the Mombasa governor Hassan Joho who has refused to be ‘bought’ by Jubilee to Majority Leader Adan Duale’s threats to ethnically cleanse members of Kamba community who will vote or register to vote in Garissa.

Even the blind can see the confusion in Jubilee, and they have now chosen to disband the presidential campaign team that included some elected leaders and aspirants who would be advantaged in the nominations to include every candidate in the presidential campaign team.

It’s a do or die contest for both sides, Uhuru saw the elections in Ghana and Gambia where the incumbents were beaten and conceded. He does not want to be another victim. Raila will be putting a strong fight to send the ‘corrupt’ Jubilee administration and he only has one ‘bullet’ to do so. Uhuru lose would also dent DP William Ruto’s dreams, he has burnt all the bridges except for a few sycophants and may have nothing to cling on to realize his 2022 dreams.
