Agwambo Resorts to Old Vices of Forcing Candidates on The Electorate Ahead of The August Polls Causing Anxiety Within ODM

    By Nicholas Olambo
With the general election just seven months away, the incumbent and the would be opposition candidate or candidates are working hard to put their houses in order and clinch the victory. Raila Odinga who has contested the presidency three times and lost is most likely to be on the ballot again.

What is he doing in preparation for this? The ODM Party Leader is playing village politics endorsing candidates in places where he is not even a voter. This is not the first time, the king of double speech in known for the vice. It paints an accurate picture of him as a man who is selfish, he cares about his interest and not the interest of the people.

Endorsing unpopular candidates before nominations is nothing but forcing candidates on the electorate where he has strong following. These endorsed candidates are mostly his robust and die-hard sycophants; they don’t serve the interest of the people but instead become flower girls and ‘prefects’ who defend ‘Baba’ at whatever cost.

He recently endorsed Kasipul Mp Oyugi Magwanga who is eying the Homa Bay County gubernatorial position in the coming elections. Though Magwanga has a track record of proper management of CDF funds in his constituency more than any other Mp in the region, the two-term lawmaker has never uttered even a word in parliament.

The Homa Bay gubernatorial race is expected to be tough; aspirants are burning the midnight oil to unseat Cyprian Awiti who has been accused of dismal performance and corruption. Homa Bay is one of those places where having Raila Odinga’s ODM ticket is as good as winning the seat.

What does it mean with the Party Leader endorsing candidates? There will be no nominations; they will pretend by putting up a formality exercise which will be a sham when the ticket has already been sold to the highest bidder. Odinga has reduced lawmakers from Luo Nyanza to his bootlickers, someone should introduce some antidote to ‘Odingaism.’

He is accusing Jubilee/IEBC of not allowing a leveled playground ahead of the coming polls when he is evidently doing the same within his party. He is dictating who is to become the branch chairperson, where Senator should come from, a governor and even sweepers. In fact, in Homa Bay County he is taking the electorate from Suba regions for granted. His endorsements in 2007 and now do not favor candidates from Suba.

Suba has produced some of the best leaders in Kenya, Tom Mboya who was is father’s rival in Luo Nation came from Rusinga Islands in Suba. The young TJ Mboya championed well thought out education programs that benefited the likes of Barack Obama Snr, father of the outgoing US President Barrack Obama. He did these when Jaramogi Oginga was politicking round the clock.

Right now one of the strongest candidates to challenge the incumbent Awiti is Sammy Wakiaga from Rusinga, Suba. Wakiaga is a former NSIS official and a reknown philanthropist who has also put up a number development projects in Homa Bay. The stiff competition would be between Awiti, Wakiaga, and Magwanga but unfortunately, Agwas has his preferred candidate where he is not a registered voter.

He is fronting for individuals who will lick his boots and play cheap politics at the funerals for an entire five-year term. No one should select a governor for the people of Homa Bay County, it is their democratic right to elect the people they believe are best fit to serve then. A governor should not be a party chief bootlicker or servant.

  • Junet Mohammed Fires Back At Jubilee over Withdrawal of Gov’s Joho And Kingi Security

Junet Mohammed Fires Back At Jubilee over Withdrawal of Gov’s Joho And Kingi Security

The Orange Democratic Movement has received with shock information regarding the withdrawal of the security details of H.E. Ali Hassan Joho and H.E Amason Kingi.

This withdrawal of Governor Joho and Kingi’s security, while completely illegal, has become an annual event under the Jubilee regime in which every December, President Uhuru Kenyatta retreats to the Coast for a holiday and while there, tries to promote his party and his regime by undermining the work and the standing of the Governors and other elected leaders allied to ODM in the area.

Being a firm believer in ODM, Governor Joho and Kingi naturally fights back by stating the facts as best as they understand them. The Head of State gets angry, and the illegal action of security withdrawal follows. These are later restored upon the decision by the courts that the actions are illegal and unconstitutional.

Never the less, ODM takes great reservations at these acts of bullying that are meant to blackmail and arm twist Governor Joho and Kingi into supporting the failed Jubilee regime or to cow them into silence.

We wish to reiterate that these actions constitute an abuse of office and power. They fail the test of Chapter Six of our constitution, and they go against the requirement that leaders are provided with round the clock security as a duty by the State and not a favor.

We demand the restoration of Mr. Joho and Mr. Kingi’s security with immediate effect, and we warn the National Government that we will hold it solely responsible for any misfortune and security breaches that may befall the Governors.

However, in the Islamic faith to which I profess, life comes from Allah and one else can take away the life of another except with the concurrence of Allah. We, therefore, remind Jubilee that these illegal and shameful acts will yield nothing until Allah says they should.

The Interior Ministers and the bosses from whom he picks the illegal orders or whom he seeks to please should be ashamed and prepare to be humiliated because they are doomed to fail.

We refuse to be intimidated, and we ask Gov Joho and Gov Kingi to stand firmly on the side of the truth in the full knowledge that they have the full backing of the party and the superior protection that only Allah gives

  • Electronic Voting Secrets Jubilee Don’t Want You To Know, 100% Tested And Approved Ways To Conduct Elections Even In The Most Remote Regions

Electronic Voting Secrets Jubilee Don’t Want You To Know, 100% Tested And Approved Ways To Conduct Elections Even In The Most Remote Regions

Electoral reforms have dominated headlines and parliamentary business with special sittings set to break the ice. The government allied legislators are up in arms with the manual backup of voting forget the fact that the blind endorsement has some MPs passing bills without proper digestion. The core issue of electronic voting is the identification of eligible voters through biometric matching. The opposition has credible suspicions that the manual register would introduce ghost voters. Kriegler report on 2007 elections found more than 2M dead voters to have participated in the fatal election. With innuendos surrounding the debate, we can use Turkana as a case study to demystify open lies floated on the electronic system.

Thuraya Telecommunications Company confirmed 100% transmission results for recent by-elections in Turkana held in the most of the remote county assembly wards, enhancing the credibility of the electoral process. The success rate followed the deployment of satellite coverage, extensive training and support work provided in conjunction with Airtel Kenya.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the regulatory agency responsible for conducting and supervising referenda and elections in Kenya, needs to achieve full and immediate transmission of results. A delay in the confirmation of election results and declaration of winners prompts credibility concerns.

In October 2016, the IEBC were facing a particularly difficult challenge. Four by-elections were being held in county assembly wards that had limited or no terrestrial coverage. In Mosiro, in the Rift Valley, and Kalokol, on the western shore of Lake Turkana, there is no GSM coverage at all.

A joint team from both Thuraya and Airtel created a 14-day support program. IEBC election officers were given comprehensive training, as well as a results simulation exercise and technical assistance on election day itself.

The results were detailed: operating with Thuraya SatSleeve and Samsung J2 smartphones, the IEBC reported 100% transmission results in both Mosiro and Kalokol. The transfer was successful, using a specially developed mobile app that can be downloaded from Google Play Store and which is compatible with smartphones.

Bilal Hamoui, Thuraya Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Thuraya is uniquely placed to transform how the electoral process works in remote regions of Africa. Only we can take smart applications and apply them to the groundbreaking Thuraya SatSleeve device. We are delighted this investment in equipment, expertise and training have been such a success in Kenya. It’s a vote of confidence in Thuraya’s technology, which can connect anybody, anywhere; we’re looking forward to replicating this in future elections and other locations.”

In the two wards with limited GSM coverage – Sala, in Tana River County, and Nyacheki, in the Gucha district – transmission of the results was achieved through the GSM operators network.

James Buyekane, ICT Director, and Lauranta Chepkwony, Network Engineer, at IEBC said: “The Commission are grateful to Thuraya and Airtel Kenya for the training and technical support provided during the by-elections, and the dedicated support they provided throughout the training period.”

VSAT technology is the most suitable technology to put as the backup even if it’s costly but for the sake of peace and credibility of elections, We can afford it. VSAT is the short form for Very Small Aperture Terminals. In short, there are three main components of the VSAT Technology – The Satellite, A Central Hub (With a Big Dish Antenna) and a number of smaller nodes (smaller dish antenna) kept at various remote locations that together form a Star topology (Even Mesh topologies are possible for small networks) using the satellite network).

VSAT has the advantage of Access in Remote Locations: This has been the traditional strength of Satellite Networks. A Satellite in the Geo Synchronous orbit can cover around 33% of the earth’s surface and can provide connectivity to any region covered by it. A satellite can also focus on a particularly high-density region, and multiple satellites can work together to provide global coverage. This is very useful for remote locations (rural areas, ships and coastal regions, hills, etc.) where there is limited or no terrestrial connectivity.

Satellite Networks are very reliable (having up-times in the magnitude of 99.5% and above) and have been field tested for many years now. VSAT networks have always found applications in this area – they make a good backup network to the terrestrial networks (Leased Lines, MPLS circuits, Broadband DSL Connectivity, Internet Leased Lines, etc.) and there are certain customized plans available for backup exclusively with satellite service providers that charge for only 5% of the monthly capacity when the VSAT connection is used exclusively for backup. And yes, VSAT networks are not affected by natural calamities like earthquakes, storms, etc. Some network routers come with optional VSAT modules for terminating the VSAT links and providing auto fail-over during the failure of terrestrial network links.

The options for backup are endless; It’s, therefore, ridiculous that a whole CS for ICT, Mucheru blindly endorsed the manual backup knowingly disregarding the effective electronic backup as we’ve illustrated. There’s nearly no excuse to an electronic voting system other than dark motives being chauffeured. Satellite phones as SK Macharia lightly hinted would do the magic and put an end to the debate.

  • Inside ODM Cartels Impeding Success Of Digital Structures For Raila Odinga

Inside ODM Cartels Impeding Success Of Digital Structures For Raila Odinga

In any political campaign, the strategy laid often determines the success or failure. Raila Odinga has unsuccessfully attempted to clinch presidential post thrice and attempting what they call the last bullet in 2017 elections. In his failed attempts several blames and failures have been floated on his campaign organisation but how much has Raila learnt from his past experiences.

The cronies surrounding the opposition leader have been widely blamed for servicing their interest in the umbrella of Rao while downplaying his interests leading to his consecutive losses. 2017 campaigns, unlike the rest, comes with new angles; traditional media is slowly diminishing with even media houses focusing on digital space. This is an indicator for any serious political secretariat to give emphasis on digital space campaigning as a strategy to maximize publicity and reach the wider audience. Social Media heavily played a role in determining the U.S. elections; it was the battlefield with Trump having the upper hand in his campaigns. It comes in handy, especially with presumed or bias mainstream media.

The opposition has for long-time complained of being given media blackout in their undertakings. Instead of being crying babies, adopting other efficient platforms as digital space should be prioritized and not be undermined. Several concerned ODM loyalists, running the party’s agenda on the social media platform, revealed the heap of garbage to Kenya Insights that’s derailing the success of digital authority of the party. They’re genuinely worried things could go East now that elections are here and campaigns about to gain momentum. With the cartel honchos blocking nearly all avenues to reach the party’s top organ attention and especially Raila.

Raila has key point men located both at the CORD Secretariat and Orange House. The problem is that the people he has entrusted with the responsibilities of PA and his communication have been working to derail his efforts at ascending to the presidency.
They have mainly made sure that social media activities are done haphazardly as opposed to a structural arrangement.

Efforts initiated by individual bloggers to have a structured blogging mechanism have been frustrated first by Raila’s PA and official spokesman Dennis Onyango. The reason is in all likelihood because Onyango and his cartels are benefiting from the budgetary allocation for social media works. The bloggers get peanuts or nothing.

But, that’s not the all about Onyango. The disgraceful man has an attitude that will keep anyone off Capitol Hill house. Over and above fattening his wallet off the bloggers, it is a known fact the Raila’s spokesman is a William Ruto aide who has consistently leaked critical Raila’s programs, speeches, and itinerary to William Ruto. Dennis Onyango discussed and put into perspective is incompetent for his job.

Onyango, as the only speech writer for Raila, should tell how the same speeches get to the likes of Itumbi before Raila reads them. The case at hand, the dam in Rift Valley? Uhuru was addressing a rally, and he told them Raila would hold a press conference later in the day to bring up the issue of another dam. True to it, that was part of Raila’s itinerary for the day. Someone had leaked the information. We can only narrow down to Onyango unless he shares his stuff with an unknown person who leaks them.

    802160
    Dennis Onyango with Raila Odinga

He’s coming out to be a man whose ethical and professional training as a journalist must be dissected and analyzed. Raila deserves better than him. He is a spent cartridge with nothing substantial to offer. His ideas are as old as they can be. He can’t change.

With him as Raila’s PA, it’s also impossible for even senior bloggers to meet with Raila. To him, Jakom is a pocket wallet that has to be hidden. Onyango’s resistance to change is borne out of the fear that he might lose his job and the influence he has on Capitol Hill to bloggers. He’s a disgracefully petty and insecure human being. He believes that social media have no bearing in Raila’s campaign strategy.

He doesn’t believe in the power of the social media; yet, as a communication person, he should be the lead in providing strategies on how to counter Jubilee’s lethal but ignorant team of #36bloggers. Onyango’s incompetence has exposed Jakom to Jubilee’s daily assaults, coming in the name of hashtags. The situation is disturbing and can only get worse.

Now, let us put Dennis Onyango and his incompetence aside and pick up another member of the cartel that has been frustrating the blogging community of the ODM. His name is Noah Akala. A trained doctor by profession; Dr. Noah manages Raila Odinga’s social media. How a doctor would earn a position to manage social media for a serious Presidential candidate is something that can be discussed at length.

The discussion will however never yield either logical or conclusive results. Noah, together with Onyango is part of the team that would never appreciate the role of the blogosphere in a political environment. He calls bloggers ‘Tumbocrats’ yet he eats their budgetary allocation.

The cartels operate from Orange House and Capitol Hill. The most notorious one the one at Capital Hill and Dennis Onyango is their head. The one at Orange House is under Etale’s docket. Etale we learn from insiders also claims to be a victim of the cartel. He claims his efforts to set up a team are being frustrated from the Capital Hill. He’s also blaming Onyango. However, Stake is not an angel either; there are several cases of short changing from several major bloggers who’ve worked with him. He’s a lesser devil in the corridors. Etale has an advantage because he has the backing of key bloggers, unlike Onyango who appears to be disliked by 90% of the bloggers.

We can all remember the #ODM10At10Mombasa that happened few months to the close of 2016. Noah was in charge of the facilitation of bloggers. He received over 1 million from Mombasa Governor Hon Joho to share it with the traveling blogger. Out of this amount bloggers would only take home about 150,000/= while the remaining figure would be blatantly fed on by Noah and his team.

This issue is said to have angered Governor 001. He’s yet come to terms with the blatant theft and greed as exposed by the Dr. cum social media ‘manager .’ These among other issues are what an average ODM blogger go through. They successfully create a buzz around events trend them for days but are left with nothing to take home as cartels strategize on how to make a kill of their sweat and efforts. Things must change for the good.

Unlike #36bloggers who work for Jubilee on the structured arrangement, with the good monthly take home and commensurate allowances, ODM bloggers continue to live the life of beggars. In politics, LOYALTY is rewarded. In ODM, the loyalty of the bloggers is being taken for granted. One hopes Raila Odinga will wake up and send someone home before it’s too late. Bloggers must have their space to operate freely and in a structured manner for Raila, CORD, and the Party. The insanity of doing things the same way over and over expecting a change must be stopped. People must be ready to adopt New changes. Ironical that Onyango and party are frustrating digital footprinting while at Same time the party is pushing for a digitized election.

What’s needed is aa complete overhaul in the system and for Rail to look over his shoulders, restructure and constitute a sincere, professional and committed secretariat to drive his campaign with the deal that bit deserves. He can as well chose to surround himself with selfish cronies who’ll sing praise songs to him while naked instead of dressing him. Every campaign team needs to feel the Energy by having the general and sense of ownership of the course. Isolation, as witnessed in the organs of ODM, goes to demoralize the team leading to a deflated drive. The ODM digital progress is uncoordinated and pathetically driven, unlike competitors who’re miles ahead with sharp strategies. Is anyone listening? Time will tell.

  • Dear Mr President, It’s Nothing Personal, We’re Taking Back Our Country From Wolves of Jubilee

Dear Mr President, It’s Nothing Personal, We’re Taking Back Our Country From Wolves of Jubilee

Throughout history the power of the people has been tested time and again. Kenya’s own struggle for independence has pride of place in the annals of freedom struggles. Our progenitors turned the clock of history when they could no longer bear the yoke of colonial oppression. They gave us the promise of a fresh lease of life in a land splendor where justice would be our shield and defender.
The promise of our national anthem has however been betrayed with impunity. Where the fruit of our labour should fill every heart with thanks giving, our nation has become a looters’ paradise.
In March 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta restored our hope when he declared “an unwavering war against corruption,” in his second State of the Nation Address. He received a standing ovation from the joint houses of Parliament. The rest of Kenyans beamed with unguarded delight. Yet, does all this seem to have been no more than perfectly choreographed hot air?
As a trusting citizen, I feel cheated. As a nation, our values have not merely been altered, but have actually been destroyed. High level government officers have made runaway graft and corruption the order of the day. They shamelessly exploit the toil of hardworking Kenyans and present carefully constructed defense lies.
The state has been quick to repudiate the vice while laying claim to it. The doublethink trend is agonizing. As it consciously induces unconsciousness, millions of Kenyans can only afford a meal per day. Not by choice, but as a result of economic paralysis triggered by a few upper crusts.
Mr President, enough of the historical decadence and polysyllabic speeches. Kenya is waiting for you to take a stand and emulate one Lee Kuan Yew whom you are on record as stating he is your role model. The founding father of Singapore transformed his country from a mere trading post to the present day Asian metropolis that it is. We are waiting for you to be our Lee Kuan Yew, for the future and unborn generations.
Kenya is smarting under the burden of the Health Sandal, Land grabbing, CCTV installation, NYS non fictional soap opera, Youth Fund, Anglo “fleecing” 3Billion payout reward, irregular tendering, billions that remain unaccounted in government departments, among many more economic crimes by the high and mighty.
Public anger is mounting, as can only be expected. History has taught us that the power inherent in the will of ordinary citizens has birthed new dawns.
At the end of the 17th century, peasants in France redesigned their country’s political landscape to bring a rotten monarchy to its end. Royal coffers had been depleted under King Louis XVI and his predecessors. The people’s plight fell on deaf ears. The old order got its death certificate.
The constitutional power bestowed unto Kenyans demand for accountability and transparency in all state affairs. At no point should favoritism apply to anyone who has consciously defiled our economy. You must take an intrepid stand
Women, the old and the youth are dying daily from treatable conditions. Unemployment is soaring at an all time high. A majority wallow in hopelessness due to the billions lost through scams. Money that could have helped in the alleviation of the basic living standards.
We must reclaim our loving country from tainted leadership.
We the electorate doesn’t want to overthrow the Government as one spin doctor and his handlers put it. We just want to take control of our destiny, that we may be culpable if we mess up. Our hopes, passion and vision for the future are our very own existence.

  • Controversies: How Wafula Chebukati Made It To IEBC Top Job And Why Jubilee Is Uncomfortable With CEO Ezra Chiloba

Controversies: How Wafula Chebukati Made It To IEBC Top Job And Why Jubilee Is Uncomfortable With CEO Ezra Chiloba

Controversy has hit the IEBC nominees by the President. A nine-member team headed by Bernadette Musundi will meet at an undisclosed location Tuesday morning, amid growing criticism it failed to scrutinize and give perfect candidates the green light.

IEBC Chairman nominee Wafula Chebukati has had many eyebrows raised with questions stuck around his nominations which weren’t awarded on merits. Several controversies that questions Wafula’s integrity has been forthcoming and was, he was the lawyer to former anti-graft chief Philip Kinisu who settled on to pick office for allegedly pocketing Sh35 million from the National Youth Service. There are concerns that Chebukati could come from a beneficiary of the cash, although there is no evidence yet.

It doesn’t end therean active IEBC Chair nominee is a half brother to Kinisu who is married to Nancy Gitau’s sister. Nancy Gitau is one of the most powerful women in Jubilee administration, and we learn she’s top organs in Statehouse controlling the billion shilling campaign kitty for the 2017 elections.

Chebukati’s law firm – Cootow and Associates Advocates – is also accused of professional negligence that led to a loss of millions of shillings belonging to the Nairobi county government. The firm did not defend a suit filed by Salima Enterprises against the county and the county government lost the case and was forced to pay Sh325 million compensation in addition to the cost of the suit and legal fees.

On December 23, the selection panel settled on Chebukati, alongside High Court advocate Tukero ole Kina for IEBC chairman. Kina scored 77 per cent against Chebukati’s 63 per cent. But President Uhuru Kenyatta – allowed by law to pick the electoral commission chairman from a list of two – pulled a surprise on Kenyans by settling on the less qualified Chebukati, who coincidentally comes from the same region as IEBC chief executive Ezra Chiloba.

The other candidate for IEBC commissioner with fresh integrity questions is Consolata Nkatha. She allegedly has an active criminal court case, in which she is accused of defrauding the Museums of Kenya of Sh280 million.

There are genuine concerns that IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and chairperson nominee Wafula Chebukati cannot work concurrently for the commission because they are from the same community and county are misplaced.

Kenya Insights gathers that Statehouse power brokers are uncomfortable with Ezra holding the CEO position vowing to send him packing through several avenues including forced resignation. Word is he’s been approached to quote a price for his exit. The unease is fuelled by the fact that is dating Rosemary Odinga, and they fear this could give Odinga an upper hand. They’re now looking into replacing him with their trusted candidate. The behind-the-scenes innuendos go to show the greater influence by the executive in the IEBC line-up something that casts queries on the credibility and sovereign independence of the electoral body given the powerful external influences.

Wafula according to power shots is seen as System’s friendly and ‘easy to work with’. He’s a known close associate to DP Ruto whom he met several days to his appointment in Mombasa. The appointment has political bait as Well, the appointment of Chebukati and former Anglican Church Archbishop Eliud Wabukala to head the anti-graft agency are meant to woo the Bukusu community to support Jubilee. Bukusu commands about 600,000 votes. It’s not by coincidence that Kinisu a Bukusu has been replaced by Wabukhala, his tribe mate as the EACC Chairman.

  • Grand Scheme: How Uhuru is Simply Trapping Raila into His Comfort Zone The Electronic Voting System And Will Beat Him Hands Down

Grand Scheme: How Uhuru is Simply Trapping Raila into His Comfort Zone The Electronic Voting System And Will Beat Him Hands Down

    By Nicholas Olambo
The political journey of Raila Odinga should be a series of harsh lessons, but has he learned enough? He has been detained and exiled, but he never gave up, he championed the second liberation force and had given a shot at the presidency three times, losing, being rigged out and losing/ being rigged out.

He still has his eyes set on the prize, but folks have been writing stories describing him as a contender left with ‘one bullet,’ 2017 is his do or die contest, but these are illusions he has refuted. He says he is well prepared with more a single ‘bullet’ should he be nominated to fly the opposition flag. As things stand Raila is the possible opposition candidate with polls rating the incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of him.

Odinga was beaten by President Uhuru in 2013; he challenged the results at the Supreme Court, but the court’s verdict maintained the status quo. He respected the court’s ruling and moved on keeping a keen check on Jubilee administration, revealing all mega corruption scandals that have rocked President Kenyatta’s leadership. It’s now a see through administration poked with corruption holes all over, from the infamous NYS scandal, Eurobond, Youth Fund and 5 billion Afya House scandal among others. It’s said to be the most corrupt in Kenyan history.

Odinga has managed to make corruption his key campaign agenda to discredit the Kenyatta led Jubilee administration, and with 2017 just seven months away, the numbers seem likely to tilt for the opposition but will Kenyatta sit back and go in history as a one-term president? Beating incumbents in Africa are ‘a miracle.’

Political analyst/jubilee strategist Mutahi Ngunyi who was the brainchild of ‘tyranny of numbers myth’ through which Uhuruto twisted the ICC narrative and rallied their large tribes to win 2013 polls is now singing a different song. With the fast shaping NASA, a united front through which opposition leaders may challenge President Kenyatta, Ngunyi says the myth is no longer viable. NASA is more like NARC in 2002, an unbeatable force.

In fact soon after Kenyatta assumed office in 2013, Ngunyi described Mr. Kenyatta as a greenhorn president, but I think Kenyatta is ‘a tactical and smart’ fellow. He his trapping Mr. Odinga in his comfort zone and will ‘beat’ him hands down. The recent chaotic special sittings were deliberate; Uhuru may not even sign the draconian election bill into law. Already there is enough pressure on him from the opposition and religious leaders asking him to rise beyond party interests and reject the controversial draft law.

The cord is already bracing the country for street protests in January should the bill be signed. The opposition has described the laws as a ploy by Jubilee to rig the coming polls. In 2013, Cord claimed that Jubilee stole elections by hacking IEBC systems and altered results for TNA’s Uhuru Kenyatta. Mr. Odinga can’t substantiate this well; their evidence was rejected by the Supreme Court as huge and time bad.

Raila is claiming that they will not allow elections rigged but what will he do if he can’t substantiate how he was ‘beaten’ in 2013? The same technique will be used on him again; I doubt if he’s determined to keep the check on his competitor’s digital rigging tricks. We are in a digital era, and Jubilee is known to be pro digital. Any schemes to revert to a manual system are deliberate moves to trap Odinga to reject the manual backup system, so they all go digital and ‘beat’ him there. If anything Baba is used to being ‘beaten,’ he will accept and move on.

In the last elections, the opposition accused Jubilee of working with hackers and Safaricom who operated the servers to manipulate polls. From them how prepared is CORD to repel and expose such schemes should they arise. Grapevine has it that the State has constituted the group of sharp IT gurus drawn from local universities, Russia, and Chinese computer wizards to do the 2017 dirty jobs.

While these remain mere speculations, we know the miles player at hand can go. CORD must or by now should’ve hit the computer wizardry world to shop for the brightest minds to monitor the system from their center to detect at the slightest chance any mischievous move during polls. Electronic voters identification is a blessing to CORD and a nightmare to Jubilee who are accused to be scheming on using dead voters to push up their numbers given unfavorable current voters register dynamics. All parties must be at alert IEBC must give nothing short of free, fair, credible, verifiable, tamper-proof, healthy elections. End of discussion!

  • With Speaker Justin Muturi And Aden Duale In Parliament, Kenya Is Yet To See The Worst From The Eccentrics

With Speaker Justin Muturi And Aden Duale In Parliament, Kenya Is Yet To See The Worst From The Eccentrics

Kenya and the world have been treated to the worst of theatrics in parliament during the past days in exceptional settings set to discuss electoral reforms with Jubilee wing rooting for manual back-up of a voting system and opposition insisting on the digital and the negotiated amendments to be sustained.

The debate as expected was marked with extreme violence with the house turned into a chaotic market with reckless traders. Reports of physical fights between the MPs flew around. And it’s during these sittings that dictatorial smoke signals were sent. The parliament building in a long time since Moi era was completely barricaded and heavy anti-riot police deployed in an apparent intimidation move by the executive who wanted the law passed by all means necessary. Journalists were denied access to Parliament’s media gallery, broadcast signal switched off, internet shut. This a 2017 smoke signal coming at the time when credible suspicions that the government will lock out the internet during next elections, thrives.

The ugly face of August house with primordial debates presided over by House Speaker Justin Muturi. Muturi has brought the insanity in parliament given his partisan stand and blind sycophancy to the executive. Muturi is a tribal chief placed in a high office. The speaker has brought shame and crashed the credibility and integrity of a powerful institution. Unlike his predecessors as Kaparo and Marende both of whom has political affiliations but kept professionalism ahead by remaining neutral, Muturi like swallowing a whole watermelon fruit is finding it hard to hide his allegiance to political lineage.

Parliament is an institution that ought to provide social and political unity. However, blind political loyalty and desperation for correctness politics have caused Parliament to serve primarily as a public forum for the ventilation of grievances rather than a law‐making body and unifying institution. Members should have a difference of policy but not trapping the country in the rut of immature and hollow politics.

Most of his legislative decisions are biased and bring out someone who plays political marionette role. He has significantly eroded the reputation and credibility of the House, lowering the quality of the debate and work of the National Assembly. He poses the threat of returning Parliament to old days of executive control or appendage. Commission on the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) has gone to court seeking a declaration that Honourable Speaker Muturi is unfit to hold public office.

The office of Speaker is one of prestige, splendor, and authority. The office of the Speaker occupies a pivotal position in Constitution and instilling culture of constitutional democracy. While the MPs represent the individual constituencies, the Speaker represents the full authority of the House itself. The Speaker symbolizes the dignity and power of the House over which she/he are presiding. Therefore, it is expected that the holder of this office of high dignity has to be one who can represent the House in all its manifestations.

As long as Muturi retains the seat and Kenya heading to the elections, we’re yet to see the worst as he’ll oversee even the most of crude policies shoved by the executive see the day. Muturi, a once corrupt magistrate, is behaving and talking like someone who didn’t step into a law school. The sooner we get rid of the lunatic, the better Kenya will be placed until then we’re courting disaster.

    Justice Odunga
    Justice Odunga

Talking of disasters another one in parliament is the leader of Majority Aden Duale who has made a brand of a loose canon, Jubilee’s preferred bark dog given his excellent ability to talk without engaging his senses. Duale is the master of moronic, unintelligent utterances. He even shocks himself on whatever he says. Given the much crap, he talks some unnamed parts of his body must be getting jealous of his mouth. Duale is a preprogrammed bot and a slave to the establishment. As much as we castigate him for unbolted lack of sagacity, we must not forget this is a tragic robot with a developer whom should worry us the most. His owner.

In one of the most disastrous events, Duale reigned a moronic attack on Justice Odunga accusing him of being tribal and issuing opposition friendly judgments. The law and politics are as distinct as Duale and wisdom something he needs to know. Duale and his masters want a manipulation-prone judiciary something Kenya has worked hard to ride over. Duale is threatening to discuss Odunga when parliament reconvenes.

This is a direct attack on the independence of the judiciary and the integrity of the distinguished judge and an abuse of parliamentary privilege. It is conducted entirely untenable in any civilized democracy. Justice Odunga holds an important constitutional office as a judge of the superior court and a member of the judiciary whose independence is protected by Article 160(1) of the Constitution. His exercise of judicial authority is undertaken on behalf of the people of the Republic and therefore cannot and should not be subjected to any impediment of any nature.

With these hired guns seated at the helm of a legislature, Kenya Is cooked and fried waiting to go down the digestive tract. Until wisdom pays them a surprise visit, we must water and soap our hair.

  • Women and Politics, The Frustrations In Sexist Kenya

Women and Politics, The Frustrations In Sexist Kenya

The high court has ruled that the Jubilee cabinet is unconstitutional since it doesn’t fully comply with the two third gender rule with under representation of women in The cabinet slots. This is a snippet of the women representation across The board.

The inclusion of women in politics and public institutions is a process that is necessary but with no easy solutions. A silver bullet approach simply does not cut it. Kenya is ranked amongst countries in Africa with least women representation in parliament. A report by The Africa Human Development Report of 2016 indicates that Africa has four countries in the top 10 with high levels of women representation in parliament. These four countries are; Rwanda, Seychelles, Senegal, and South Africa.

In the case of Kenya, there is a story behind the lethargy in implementing the gender bill. It is a complicated story that is characterized by the lack of political goodwill and the endorsement of internally induced patriarchal structures evident in the sexist discourse in political spaces. Male members of parliament have been on record for rejecting the gender bill on the rational that this gives room for “people to nominate their girlfriends.” The bid to push the gender bill was lost an account of male parliamentarians who argued that the bill was retrogressive to democracy, and that, passing it was tantamount to giving women free seats.

The vital role of women as equal contributing partners is downplayed by sexist discourse, and this has very direct implications for the number of women who enter these political spaces.

The fact that Women’s rights to equal representation in the political space and public institutions need to be recognized should not be over emphasized. As it is, Kenya positions itself as a democratic state, yet the truth is that it cannot speak of democracy without having gender democracy. The gender bill needs political goodwill to get through, but more importantly, its enactment and implementation will require male goodwill that reads against the grain of sexist discourse.

It is important to have men stand in support of women to push this bill through. It is essential that men be part of the change narrative that speaks against sexism and includes more women into the political space and public institutions. One helpful way of achieving democracy is through gender democracy.

Women representatives in various seats have been targets of sexual assault and preying by their male counterparts who have superiority complex. Moses Kuria one of Jubilee’s irritant legislators who in a scuffle in parliament last year, attempted to undress Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo is now threatening to do the same this time more bizarre. Shebesh was physically assaulted by Kiderothe governor when she went to seek an audience with him over problem faced by constituents. These are examples of tribulations women in office have to go through in the masculine Kenyan politics.

    img_20161221_020555

Kenyan political scene is murky and gets murkier for the women. As Passaris a Nairobi Gubernatorial Candidate said during Silence is a woman forum where she was the kat panelist to discuss various challenges faced by women, it’s never a walk in the park. “Being a woman in politics has been tough. I get judged by my looks. My project got taken away because it’s a ” boys club.” Said Passaris in her contribution. She continued “A woman always finds the strength to come back again. Women can back other women. Society judges women more harshly.”

With the gender rule evidently not going through, women need to take the different approach in the fight including vying for the legislative seats. The big man syndrome is in full play and likely factor to demoralize the women. Attempts by Esther Passaris to register her Harambee Party were shut down with the argument that the name was monumental if Uhuru wanted to register a party by the same name do you think he’d be blocked? These are some of the challenges women in politics face. 2017 women must come out in numbers to battle it out with men in the various political seats. This will put them at a good position to push for progressive social policies.

  • Kicking Out NGOs and Introducing Draconian Electoral Laws Are Last Kicks of A Dying Horse

Kicking Out NGOs and Introducing Draconian Electoral Laws Are Last Kicks of A Dying Horse

    By Nicholas Olambo

As 2017 fast approaches, tactical political realignments are evident. The reality of a united opposition is taking shape by the day, Nasa (National Super Alliance) has chances of being the umbrella under which the opposition will challenge the Jubilee administration.

Jubilee got into power after twisting the ICC narrative and rallying their huge tribes under what Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi described as ‘tyranny of numbers.’ Times seem to have changed, and as the political gurus will tell you, you can not be twice lucky in politics. The tyranny of numbers myth has no place in 2017 politics. A united opposition front that ended Mois’s 24-year rule and defeated President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2002 is causing him sleepless nights.

The president and the entire Jubilee administration is in a panic mode, another term to enjoy eating meat and keep the opposition and Kenyans struggling for the scent is under threat. Loyalists are crossing back into opposition camps, DP William Ruto’s vote-rich backyard is at risk of being sliced by the opposition.
As these realignments and unofficial campaigns take place, every player is struggling to beat their challengers with the best that they have.

The government is pushing for amendments to election laws to allow a use of manual techniques should the digital technique fail. The opposition is against the bill and sees this as the ploy to create chances of rigging the 2017 polls. Jubilee boasts of majority membership in both houses, a card they always pull to their advantage and pass draconian laws.

IEBC on its end has claimed that 10% of the country is not covered by the network, an indication that they may need to manually transmit results from such regions. The manual transmission is liable to ‘cooking’ and alteration of results to favor some candidates. This idea is backed by a fallacy that the internet or social media causes violence. The government has already shown intentions of shutting down the internet on election day; the same has been witnessed in other African states under dictators as Congo, Uganda, and Gambia.

Kenya is sitting on ticking time bomb and a simple mistake to deny the will of the people will blow it. The ruling regimes are kicking out NGOs who are carrying out or financing civic education exercises as being rogue and plotting to finance the opposition and influence the outcome of 2017 polls. Who buys that? So many people in government are splashing out cash from the questionable source to influence the 2017 polls outcome.

DP William Ruto ‘donates’ millions nearly every weekend to ‘buy’ the church, The Waigurus of this world looted hundreds of millions if not billions and are now lining up to buy their way into leadership positions. Before kicking out NGOs who are educating the public on the electoral process, a role that the sleeping and ‘broke’ IEBC should be playing, deal with the corruption face that is within the executive.

Crazy as one activist Boniface Mwangi will tell you ‘ The government wants you to learn about sex but not electoral processes.’ Provision of ARVs are funded by donors; PSIs are donor funded but not questioned. Whoever will win the 2017 polls should do so based on the manifesto, If the status quo remains, it should be based on track record of the Jubilee administration. So far corruption has rocked the current regime than any other in the history of this nation, and the president has nothing more to do. Jubilee came in ‘a digital government,’ what has happened in the short span that the internet now it’s a threat to security? Social media/internet can do more than cheap PR jobs but inform the people.

  • 2017 Storm Brewing, Is Kenya Ready

2017 Storm Brewing, Is Kenya Ready

Campaigns for 2017 General Elections have unofficially been kicked off with political train gaining momentum by the day. Jubilee aŕe on massive development projects launching across the country and with the timing months to the election, they’re capitalizing on this loophole to score political points.

The opposition, on the other hand, is witnessing political realignment with a mission of having a united opposition capable of sending Jubilee home in the same taste that Rainbow Alliance ganged up to end Moi’s 24-year rule.

Jubilee regime has been rocked with significant corruption dealings painting it as one of the most corrupt governments of the four that Kenya has had. Human rights violations as extrajudicial killings that have snatched many lives have also headlined the administration.

Perhaps the most outstanding are the systematic clampdown on freedom of press and expression. In the last years of Jubilee regime, press freedom has been lowered in an index with draconian laws meant to muzzle information flow. The government has been critical of the media alleging they’re misreporting painting it as corrupt which in the real sense is the truth.

A Nation Media Group journalist was in trouble on exposing a scandal in tendering at the Interior Ministry. What followed is evident. They came up with another clamping law that required journalists to give evidence on corruption. The President and deputy are on record calling out the media on several occasions as useless reducing newspapers to mere meat wrappers.

The government hasn’t been soft on investigative journalists and bloggers many of whom have faced their wrath. Recently, a British journalist to The London’s Time was deported under unclear circumstances reports now indicating he was probing the Eurobond case that allegedly cost taxpayers billions spent in nonexistent projects.

The targeting of media by the regime has exposed their dictatorial motives an indirect attack to freedom of speech and press which are vital in a progressive and democratized nation as Kenya.

Under the four years that Jubilee have been in power, we’ve witnessed extreme public funds looting like never before. Some of these people are new to this corrupt money which then directs me to the fears that Jubilee might not let go power that quickly. Four years wouldn’t be enough they’ll probably fight to last blood drop to retain power for another five years to finish up work (read looting) started. I have certain key points that are red flags as we move close to the polls.

    ICC

There has been a sustained campaign to pull Kenya out of the Rome Statute. Like many of Africa’s dictatorial regimes have been yapping that the court is a political establishment targeting Africa, but they don’t tell you that it’s Africa’s leaders who reign more terror on their citizens. The fear of ICC contributed mostly in taming possible violence in the last election in Kenya. Imagine a scenario without ICC and no fear over facing international justice. Gambia’s President who’s now refusing to let go power after the huge loss at the same time preparing grounds for the serious clash in the country hurried to pull his country out of ICC months to the election. They only want ICC out if the way to reign terror in citizens without limitations. The cosmetic sovereignty calls are like music to dead ear. Sovereignty while Africa governments run on donor money.

    Civil Society

If you’ve been keen, the CSOs have been Jubilee’s top enemies. This is mainly contributed by the active participation of the CSOs on the ICC cases that had President and Deputy dragged to the Hague. It’s their belief that the cases were coined by the Civil Society whom they’ve branded as the evil society despite the fact that most of the CSOs items in ICC were drawn from the State’s intelligence agencies.

On Jamhuri day celebrations, the president gave the biggest hint that the Civil Society is under attack with the possible shutdown of many. The President accused the CSO for working with foreign powers to change the regime. Ironically the president telling off foreign powers from influencing elections yet IEBC conducting the elections is funded by the Western countries don’t even go to the security dockets and all.

The mood in the country and hostility towards Jubilee has been frustrating the son of Jomo now issuing warnings everywhere. It’s also not a coincidence that Civil Society has been removed from devolution to interior ministry under colonialist Nkaissery. This is a strategic plan to control and muzzle the CSO as elections nears. The NGOs play the major role in voters education and empowerment. With a weakened Civil Society, Jubilee will have a field day with atrocities which when you look at how police have handled protests in recent cases should worry you.

    Social Media

There are credible fears that Jubilee would shut down the internet in the same style that has been replicating in most African countries. From Uganda to Gambia and now Congo shutting down the internet as Kabila plots to forcefully extend his term and fears of violence eruption.

The fallacy that social media causes violence is not only pathetic and primitive thinking but an insult to civilization. Other day a pseudo-journalist, a self, imposed presidential reporter with the Star opened his mouth ahead of his brains calling for social media shutdown over irresponsible posts. This a journalist mark you who should be advocating for the free press and speech. But let’s spare the man as he comes to terms with the fact that his friends have been helping in taking care of his wife.

Jubilee should have least worry with the internet and work towards giving a credible election that will be the sure way. Kenya is a time bomb waiting for a single wrong movement, and things will go wrong. Shutting down the internet would cause a revolt, it will send out a signal that some fraud scheme is in the oven even if it’s not the case.

Social Media has a therapeutic effect in that people will vent online instead of picking weapons and slashing each other. It’s not an expensive way to deal with the situation. The keyboards will take away the anger. But the most important thing is to have open, credible elections. Don’t disrupt the peace. Whoever is advising Jubilee to shut down the internet should ask themselves if past poll violence happened because of social media. Free advice, focus on the vernacular radio stations which are dangerous tribal fueling agents, a clampdown on loose cannons the bark dogs of politicians the war mongers, fraud electoral officers. Leave social media alone and for the millionth time, conduct credible, open, Free and fair elections and won’t have to worry for a great poll results from reception. The way Jubilee has invested on anti-riot police in recent times is a story for another day.

  • Donald Trump: America’s First African President

Donald Trump: America’s First African President

So Donald John Trump is now president of the free world. This will probably go down as the biggest upsets in the history of politics in the US. No one would have imagined this result at the beginning of the campaign 18 months ago. Trump was the proverbial wild card, the most improbable, the most unlikely front-runner.

Donald Trump has been that quintessential entrepreneur, who made his fortune from real estate, golf and hotel ventures in the US and the around the world. New York, Hollywood, Las Vegas, Istanbul, Toronto, Edinburgh, Mumbai, etc. can attest to his financial might.

There have been murmurs that from a very young age as a businessman, Trump had all along harbored the idea of becoming the president of the United States. Some people think it has been an odyssey of almost 40 years.

Donald appears to have drawn a lot of inspiration from Ronald (Reagan) the 40th POTUS. Various commentators have likened his win to the second coming of Ronald Reagan. Donald was one of the most prominent supporters of Ronald in his 1980 campaign. It was Ronald, a former actor, who invented the slogan “Make America great again.” It will be remembered that this was the mantra at the core of Donald’s campaign. He even trademarked it in 2014 after some of his rivals in the primaries begun using it.

Ronald rode his campaign on the promise of ‘’Restoration of prosperity at home, with the goal of achieving “peace through strength” abroad.’’ Ronald instigated the “Reagan Revolution’’, which aimed to reinvigorate the American people and reduce their reliance upon Government. His campaign promised to restore “the great, confident roar of American progress and growth and optimism.” This was a largely flighted plan of the Donald Trump campaign.

No one had seen Trump running with the prize. Apart Allan Lichtman, a US presidential historian, no other pundit, forecaster, statistician or bookmaker had correctly predicted the outcome of the poll. Not even Republican Party heads were convinced of the candidacy of Trump. They even did not shy away from despising and disowning him publicly. Mitt Romney, John Mcain, Paul Ryan et al., seemed to have unofficially decamped to the Clintons side. Only a few lobbyists and party insiders believed in Donald. Reince Priebus, Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn, Kellyanne Conway and Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor were his few close confidantes and most loyal comrades.

    U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump
    U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump

But as fate would have it, some unexpected deckhands came just in time during the crucial periods of his campaign. An alleged shadowy hand of Russia in collaboration with sites like Wikileaks and Guccifer leaked over 33,000 official emails sent from Clinton’s private server when she was Secretary of a state. Apparently, she should have been using the official server.

These emails had allegedly been deleted by Clinton, during investigations by the FBI, to escape culpability. Other emails from conversations between John Podesta, the Clinton campaign chair, depicting Hillary as irrational and unpredictable did not help an already worse situation.

More discoveries were made of how Bernie Sanders, Clinton’s arch-rival in the Democratic Party primaries, was allegedly rigged out, after questions were leaked to Clinton, before the debates.

And before the dust had settled, in came Jim Comey, the FBI director. On October 28th, 2016, barely a week before elections, he wrote a letter to eight chairmen of select committees of the US Congress about new evidence on the said deleted emails on Clinton’s personal server. Comey had discovered the new evidence from an old computer owned by Huma Abedin, a long-standing PA to Hillary Clinton. That announcement cemented the suspicion by the electorate that Clinton was not trustworthy and was dishonest. That was her Waterloo. They say “When it rains, it pours.” Hillary Rodham never recovered from that devastating blow.

Commentaries on why Clinton lost the election are abounding. That she ignored the rural whites; took traditional democratic states (e.g. Wisconsin) for granted; that unlike Trump, she was reluctant to dismiss her senior campaign staff who messed, in this case, John Podesta and Huma Abedin, et cetera….
Nonetheless, the tide is over now, and the world has seen who ‘’has been swimming naked.’’ Clinton won the popular vote by almost a 2 million margin (64.4 Million against 62.3 million), but Trump took away the Electoral College vote by 13.85%, amassing 306 against Clinton’s 232.

The post-election demonstrations in cities across the US appear to have subsided, and verily Donald J. Trump is all set to be inaugurated as 45th president of the USA on 20th January 2017. The financial markets received Trump’s win with a bearish run. Infrastructure, banking, and health counters have been particularly receptive.

    Donald Trump
    Donald Trump

During his campaign, Trump pledged massive investment in infrastructure to a level that will be “Second to none”, promised to amend the affordable care act, popularly known as Obama care, henceforward more business for private health practitioners, and pledged to abolish banking red tapes to enhance bank-led fiscal stimulus, review trade deals like NAFTA and TPP, initiate tax reforms, review dealings with NATO, etc

That said, the elephant in the room is, will Trump deliver on his promises?

No one delivers a hilarious answer than Comedian Trevor Noah in “The Daily Show.” Trevor contends that “Nobody in the world knows what Trump will do…including Trump himself”. In one of the shows titled “How South Africa could prepare the US for President Trump,” Noah portrays Trump as a president who has many attributes as most African presidents.
First, Noah compares some statements Trump made during his campaigns, with those made by Idd Amin Dada and Robert Mugabe; two noxious African despots

Amin; “I am the one who has got the Money.”
Trump; “I made a tremendous amount of Money.”

Mugabe; “My people have great praise for me.”
Trump; “People love me, everybody loves me.”

Amin; ‘’I have got a very good brain.”
Trump; “God helped me by giving me a certain brain.”

Mugabe; ‘’we will win, we will be winning, all the time.”
Trump; “We will get so much winning if I get elected, that you may get bored of winning.”

Noah then mocks the outrageous suggestion by Trump to place his company in a blind trust to be run by his three oldest children. Apparently, that would be illegal because a blind trust should be run by individuals, not in contact with the owner. Noah comically compares this to “Ray Charles’’ and “Jamie Fox playing Ray Charles” (in the film “Ray”). He says “One of them is blind, and one of them is faking it and getting rich in the process” This, according to Noah, was the same tactic that President Zuma used to win lucrative government tenders through his children.

During one of the presidential debates, Trump said that he would appoint a special prosecutor, to reopen investigations into Hilary Clintons email fiasco. This was portrayed as an attempt to intimidate his opponents, the same way President Zuma used the prosecution to witch hunt his former finance minister, for calling him out on illegal business dealings.

In the same way, most African countries seek to muzzle the media; Trump is heard saying during campaigns that he would open up libel laws, so as to vigorously sue media and earn big awards from the courts.

In his first TV interview as president-elect on “60 Minutes” on CBS News, Trump appeared to contradict his three key campaign messages. On the Mexican border wall, he said that he would downgrade it to a fence in some parts. On reopening charges to Hilary Clinton, he said he didn’t want to hurt her, because “they are good people.” This came as a shocker after having variously referred to her as “a devil” “the queen of corruption” and even referring to the Clinton Foundation as a ‘’racketeering enterprise.”

Lastly, Trump had said he would rid the White House of lobbyists, what he called #draintheswamp. He has however done the complete opposite by appointing Steve Bannon as his strategic advisor. No other word in English can accurately describe Bannon, apart from “Lobbyist.”

We can only wait and see if President Trump will measure up, or he’ll be another ‘’African president.”

The race to clinch Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in the 2017 general elections is taking shape by the day, already three aspirants have expressed their quest to unseat Cyprian Awiti. Former NSIS official Sam Wakiaga, Kasipul Mp Oyugi Magwanga and Enosh Bollo are eying Awiti’s job.

Wakiaga may not have held an elective position in the past but comes out as a serious contender and a threat to the incumbent; his candidature is sending strong shockwaves in the county politics. He cannot be belittled as a small contender, Wakiaga is a known philanthropist with a strong support base that had in the past fronted him to challenge the late Senator Otieno Kajwang’, then Mbita Mp in 2007.

Exclusive : Boniface Mwangi Joining Active Politics And To Vie For An MP Seat

Chicken slowly and steadily coming home to roost, the defiant and team courage activist, Mwangi has been on a roll and scheming at the same time. Seen as a thorn in Jubilee’s administration, Boniface has stuck out as a fierce critic of the Uhuru regime with unfiltered hurls that have dealt a significant blow to the legitimacy of the system.

Boniface who doesn’t shy off from laying his malaise towards the regime, whether feigned or genuine, is a force to reckon with especially in the civil society. He has successfully organized and executed great demos from Langata land grab by DP Ruto of Weston Hotel to numerous anti-corruption wars. Mwangi is known for being chills deprived when it comes to launching missiles towards the Jubilee government.

Currently, the activist who’s been hinted by sources as an FBI, CIA agent in the country, has been entangled in bruising legal tassel with the Deputy President who sued him following comments he made on social media linking him to go the murder of Jacob Juma who by the way primarily mentioned him as a schemer in his assassination plot.

Reports reaching Kenya Insights desks indicates that the activist is getting into active politics and for a start will be registering his political party to alienate him from the traditional tribal parties. KI is told there’s a bright scheme hatched by Jubilee big dogs who’re pushing and funding the activist in rolling out his new ‘independent’ party.

Just as Moi secretly supported the formation of numerous political parties to water down opposition parties to sail in power, impermeable sources talking to Kenya Insights say Mwangi has been planted by Statehouse rulers who’re determined to ensure steady soiling and fall of the Deputy President, Ruto. They’re funding his legal pursuit against the DP who pressed defamation charges.

Our highly held sources tell Kenya Insights that the lethal activist is eyeing Makadara Constituency as his destiny. This according to his advisors, will give him entrance into parliament and eventually a favorable platform to influence humanitarian policies.

Boniface getting into politics ignites memories of another Okiya Omtatah another commercial and activist for hire who unsuccessfully vied to capture the senatorial position in Nairobi that went to thuggish Sonko. Politics and activism are distinct and if Mwangi is going to penetrate the membrane is just buy a matter of time to tell.

  • Expert Analysis: Money and Politics In Kenya, Why Grand Thieves Are Worshiped

Expert Analysis: Money and Politics In Kenya, Why Grand Thieves Are Worshiped

In diverse societies, people tend to appreciate different practices, which are pleasurable to those who assume positions in various public offices and that is irrespective of the activities having a retrogressive impact towards the society in general. Also, owing to the political affiliation with a concentration of unreasonable emotional aggrandizement, not to mention the strong abilities of the people to disregard social and economic development then it has become easier to cement poverty everywhere irrespective of one’s political affiliation.

There is the need to save Kenyans from themselves and their leaders who have no principles and live like climbing plants. It is so, because of the unique characteristics of Kenyans, which include their abilities to blatantly disregard facts, laud those who unashamedly offend the law, bow down to those who utilize their ethnicity to substantiate the ‘national objectives,’ just to mention a few.

It is noteworthy that there are many models of assistance that the citizens can pick from; for instance, the old known channels such as the executive and the legislature. However, they too need someone to save them from themselves, as they are the drive to the hardships that Kenyans are capsulated in; however, before casting stones, it is prudent to determine if it is right to officiate such an act.

The early debates developing from the critical observations of great philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, whereby the former alludes that humans are born wicked and need to be shaped by the society while the latter asserts that people are born innocent and corrupted by the society, can be useful to understanding Kenyans.

Also, it is of the essence to appreciate before a child is born, there are high possibilities of the foetus to be affected by external factors such as music, the mother’s stress, etc.; therefore, that shakes the observations made by the philosophers.
Out of the three factors mentioned above, it is clear that what appears as influential is the impact of the society on the foetus or the born child. In Kenya, apart from other influential factors such as religion, it is evident that ethnicity takes precedent.

Ethnicity is the beauty and ugliness of Kenyans. Also, the Constitution of Kenya approaches it in a bipolar mode; thus, it appreciates the different ethnic cohorts but warns against discrimination on the line of ethnicity. Therefore, it is undisputable that ethnicity is a vital element in nation-building or destroying. For instance, Dr. David Ndii wrote about “Kenya is a cruel marriage, it’s time we talk divorce” the article is an excellent piece that reflected the words of the philosophers mentioned above, inclusive of John Locke. The doctrine of Social Contract, which in Kenya is best provided for under Article 1 of the Constitution of Kenya.

In as much as the approach developed by Dr. David Ndii is viable, it is not necessarily advisable to run for it as it can be the last option just like the nuclear codes that the President of United States of America has everywhere the president visits. For instance, if nuclear families tend to differentiate, then it is impossible to assert that a particular ethnic group will lead itself without having problems of underdevelopment and discriminations based on family trees or clans.

It is time for the people of Kenya to be rewired by the few sober minds that tend to be disregarded by the corrupt minds in the society. It is time to appreciate the value of the money in the hands of the peasant more than that in the hands of the “leaders.” For instance, if a troubled leader offers a peasant Kshs. 200 to beat up another peasant and on the other hand, the peasant who is the target offers Kshs. 200 to the person who intends to attack him or her so as not to be beaten, there are high possibilities that the peasant swayed by the leader will still beat up the other peasant. But who has the real value of the money?

If the citizens of Kenya will value their differences and realise their immediate needs as individuals and citizens as a whole, and that unlike pre-colonial period where people thrived on ambushing each other and having unquestionable beliefs to the then clan or community leaders, then there is hope for tomorrow.

As of now, the people of Kenya live like tribal soldiers who are on the battlefield, not to mention the Game Code of Conduct does not guide them, therefore, they are equal to robots that have malfunctioned after pressing non-tolerance button towards other ethnic groups and those that dissent to their ethnic “political goals”.

Third Force Politics, Illusion That Stands Zero Chance In Kenyan Space

Desperate moments call for desperate measures, the former chief executive of the Committee of Experts; Dr. Ekuro Aukot was once a relevant man who enjoyed the limelight. Those days are gone, and he is the exact opposite now. Am told he is going to vie for the presidency in Thirdway Alliance Kenya; a movement he purports to be representing a better alternative to rescue Kenya from tribalism and poor leadership.
Dr. Ekuro is a respected academician who can do something better, not representing himself as a busy body desperate for a government job. There is no place for the third force in the current political layout, in politics, you are either for or against something. You can’t challenge the government and the opposition at the same time. That is total confusion.

These are futile attempts that were once harbored by the likes of Raila’s sycophant James Orengo, Martha Karua, Koigi wa Mwere and so on. These individuals had their dreams crushed by politicians who had deep pockets and ability to mobilize their tribes to rally behind them. Ekuro should not flatter himself thinking that the times have changed and Kenyans have learnt.

Kenyans never learn, especially if your intention is to desperately criticize the government and opposition to get a job. It’s no secret this guy applied to be appointed a cabinet secretary, why then should he turn to campaign through his Twitter handle to discredit the same administration he wanted to sever in? What changed and what difference would he bring in case his midday dreams came true?
Characters like him are known, trying so hard to be political saints, but they represent nothing fresh other their names. This guy cannot decline cabinet appointment neither can he decline to be ODM/Cord’s legal adviser. He is not any different from the guy from Emunyulia (Baraka Muluka) who does nothing other than criticizing his former boss, Raila Odinga.

Muluka is so desperate for a government job to the extent of dreaming of President Uhuru passing by his village and have his elders request the president to appoint their son (Muluka) to work in his administration. ‘Kizuri chajiuza, kibaya chajitangaza’ the Swahilis say. PLO Lumumba tried this, spoke all the vocs, got tired and hid, Tony Gachoka was on a mouth running spree; spoke every political nonsense for and against both sides of the political divides. He got no job and went underground.

Ekuro should identify what he stands for, the sad story he is telling of being a son of a nomad from Turkana is not any from that told by the hustler, DP William Ruto. No one pays attention to that. And is he joining politics because some folks have been in the game for a minute? It’s your relevance that will determine your longevity.

Enough said third force has no place in the current politics, even Ababu who had or has similar dreams got lost in the air and landed in the arms of an old granny Dr. Julia Ojiambo to bring ‘change.’ The battle lines have been drawn, and the 2017 polls are going to be a two-horse race between President Kenyatta and the Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

That’s the sad fact, even ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi who finished third in previous general elections is already indicating his willingness to join hands with Cord. If you can’t beat them you join them, Musalia is former Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister of Kenya, who is Ekuro? He is a political nobody who has never beaten even a village elder in a political contest. What has he to unseat Uhuru or end Raila’s long time in politics?

  • Tribunal Blocks Esther Passaris From Registering Her Harambee Democratic Party On Flimsy Grounds

Tribunal Blocks Esther Passaris From Registering Her Harambee Democratic Party On Flimsy Grounds

A tribunal chaired by Kyalo Mbobu and James Atema Paul Ngotho as members before the Kilimani court has dismissed Passaris’ plea to have the decision by Registrar of Political Parties blocking her from registering Harambee Democratic Party overturned.

In a letter dated 10th June 2016, the registrar declined to register the name saying it name could not be reserved for use by a political party since the name “was not in compliance with the Political Parties Act, 2011 and the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 Article 91.” There was no explanation as to how or why the proposed name was not in compliance with the Political Parties Act and the Constitution. 2.

A second letter was issued by the registrar of political parties on 24th August 2016 by which Passaris was informed that “Section 8(c) of the Act provides that the Registrar may refuse an application for the registration of a political party if the name or symbol that wishes to use the Act so nearly resembles the name or symbol or an abbreviation of the name of another political party registered under the Act or any other legal entity registered under any other written law. This is, therefore, to inform you that the name Harambee forms part of the National Coat of Arms of the Republic of Kenya recognized under Article 9c of the Constitution.”

In appealing the decision, Passaris premised it on numerous grounds, key among them being that the rejection of the proposed name by the registrar was unlawful, unconstitutional and whimsical since the allegation that the name is not in compliance with the Political Parties Act 2011 and Article 91 of the Constitution is a clear misreading of these provisions of the law.

In her defence, Passaris argue that whereas the word “HARAMBEE” is protected by law from use; it is so protected, but not when used in other words and for purposes that are not in conjunction with other words and objectives connected with the National Coat of Arms, and the proposed use of HARAMBEE DEMOCRATIC PARTY (HDP), is not an improper use of the said word, and is not prohibited under the provisions of Section 3 Cap.99 Laws of Kenya W . of the National Flag, Emblems and Names Act, while acknowledging such protection, her position is that such protection from use or abuse extends to the singular use of the each of the said names, and to avoid commercial exploitation and the creation of the notion of state patronage and approval in otherwise private undertakings, and to guard against the use of trademarks bearing such names; but when used in conjunction with other words, the same names are available and can lawfully be used for other purposes.

Passaris argues further that, the said names have clear and distinct Kiswahili language meanings of their own, and cannot be said to exclusively belong to the State, and have therefore had widespread application and use in society when and where they do not violate any written law.

One wonders why the case of Harambee Party is treated differently by the registrar in obvious bias steps alleged bias, for example, the fact that there is a party with the name Madaraka which, like Harambee, is a name protected under the National Flag, Emblem and Names Act.

There have been entities registered using these protected names, such as HARAMBEE SACCO SOCIETY LIMITED, HARAMBEE STARS, HARAMBEE aircraft and marine vessels, HARAMBEE Foundation, a charitable educational organization, HARAMBEE SCHOOLS, ESTATE, HARAMBEE CONSTRUCTION LIMITED, JAMHURI HIGH SCH OOL, a leading secondary school in Nairobi, JAMHURI PARK, JAMHURI Savings Account by Co-Operative Bank of Kenya, JAMHURI ESTATE, in Nairobi, the NYAYO Motor Corporation, now renamed Numerical Machining Complex, and the NYAYO TEA ZONES DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY Corporation. What therefore would stop the Harambee name from being registered.

The tribunal findings surprisingly coincided with Passaris’ thinking on The reasons given by registrar for refusal include that the name Harambee has also been used by other entities registered under other laws. The examples provided by the registrar are Harambee Stars (the national soccer team) and Harambee SACCO Society Limited. However, this argument is self-defeating for if other government offices have registered entities with the name Harambee, why should the Registrar of Political Parties claim that the name can never be used since it forms part of the Coat of Arms and is protected under the National Flag, Emblem and Names Act?

In a sharp, abrupt turn, the tribunal ruled that in their reading of the National Flag, Emblem and Names Act is that the word ‘Harambee’ (alongside the other protected words Nyayo, Madaraka, Jamhuri and the name of the President) cannot be used as the names of companies, firms or other bodies of persons, including political parties. Saying they’re well aware of the evidence which seems to show that the Registrar of Companies has allowed the name Harambee to be used by a company.

The ruling has been criticized by the section of legal fraternity with one prominent judge heard saying the findings were idiotic and out of the constitution. It’s for example laughable thinking Kenya can’t differentiate between Jubilee party and Jubilee Insurance as one of the examples cited by the registrar. These things are as separate and can be told apart.

It’s, therefore, unfair for the registrar to deny Passaris a chance to registrar her party early enough to give her time to popularize it countrywide and formally launch her gubernatorial bid. She has moved to the high court to appeal the decision with hopes she will be granted permission to have the name registered.

Grounds Turning Hostile For Sycophantic Murkomen

    By Nicholas Olambo
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator stormed a meeting he did not organize in his country. The meeting was organized by the County Government of Governor Alex Toglos and the local churches. As is the ‘norm’ these days political rallies are organized as prayer meetings, one wonders when prayers or crusades became the business of politicians.
Murkomen stormed into one that he did not organize and received scathing attacks for his sycophantic politics at the cost of serving the locals. Accompanied by Mps William Kisang and Jackson Kiptanui, The Senator was received by speeches for from angry residents who accused him of not using his influential position in government to end insecurity in Kerio Valley.
Governor Alex Toglos and Former IG David Kimaiyo who is eyeing Murkomen’s seat had earlier led thousands of residents from all the four sub counties to protest against the runaway crime. The leaders and hundreds of the protesters later travelled in buses to the ‘prayer rally’.

Murkomen interrupted the meeting and tried to urge people to be a little patient as the Interior CS Joseph Nkaiserry and IG Joseph Boinet would visit the area on October 14th. No one had time to listen to a sycophant senator who was accused of ‘eating the meat’ and left his people to enjoy the scent. He was threatened that the area would rather support the opposition if the government doesn’t end the crimes swiftly.

‘We would rather suffer in the opposition other than in government’ said Endo MCA Kirop Festus. The county governor Alex Toglos appealed to CS Nkaiserry to resolve insecurity as expeditiously as he ordered him [governor] to record statement over Moi University VC appointment remarks. Toglos was part of the tribal cocoons that protested against the appointment of Prof Laban Ayiro as the acting VC of Moi University. They referred to the professor as an ‘outsider’ heading ‘their’ institution.

But who knew the mouth running Murkomen was this dwarf at home? Murkomen is a giant sycophant to the DP William Ruto who supports every non-sense to fill his stomach. Alongside his National Assembly counterpart, Aden Duale, Murkomen was accused of having benefited from the infamous shs 791 NYS scandal. The ‘Mr. Know it all’ senator is losing the ground to former IG David Kimaiyo and KI can authoritatively say that Murkomen is under siege.

  • This Man Governor Joho And The Rich Muslim Voting Block , What Worries Statehouse Most

This Man Governor Joho And The Rich Muslim Voting Block , What Worries Statehouse Most

Ethnicity has been the key voting pattern since the onset of multi-party democracy in the early 90’s, parties have never won top seats through well-laid strategies, driven agenda or proper party manifestos. Politicians have always done tribal arithmetic to rout their opponents, the recent being ‘tyranny of numbers myth’ where considerably two large tribes teamed up to beat their opponents and share top political seats, president, and deputy president positions.

The pattern goes beyond tribal lines, religion and geographical proximities also play significant roles. Opposition party ODM seems to be working out a formula along the lines of religion, with enough support from regions bordering Nyanza and beyond. The party is rooting for a well-calculated move to bag the Muslim vote. They are on a steady path after the party’s deputy leader and Mombasa county governor, H.E Ali Hassan Joho, successfully organized an anniversary rally just over a week ago in Mombasa, to last Sunday’s rally in Nairobi and a major fundraiser in Wajir the following day.

Joho is currently playing in the national political league with enough authority as the coast region’s kingpin and the 2022 presidential candidate. He’s now moving from his comfort zones, holding rallies outside Mombasa County and stretching beyond the party to be the voice of the Muslim community which boasts of over 1.6 million votes. Islam is the dominant religion at the Coast and North Eastern Kenya, but they have been marginalized since independence. Members were at some point held at the Kasarani stadium in an abusive round up that aimed at screening individuals of Somali origin. They had no stronger voice to speak against the unlawful detentions other than quiet whispers that Islam is not terrorism.

    Things are now changing.
Suna East Mp Hon. Mohamed Junet believes Joho is now their leader. “Joho is the undisputed Muslim leader and has shown the leadership, determination, and courage to snatch the most coveted seat away from Jubilee. The Muslims in Kenya have been marginalized for over 50 years. Joho will become the Malcolm X in championing the rights of Muslims,” said Junet. Majority Leader of the National Assembly Hon. Aden Duale represents the Muslim voice in the Jubilee administration but going with the current flow of events, the group that has never had a share of the fruits accrued for over 50 years is finding a leader with the national outlook in Hon. Ali Hassan Joho.
Duale lost it all for playing too sycophantic politics and enriching himself forgetting to lead his group.

When he sensed the support shifting to Joho’s base, he worked everything possible with the Interior CS Joseph Nkaiserry to scuttle a prayer meeting organized by Joho at Jamia Mall in March this year. The meeting did not go as planned and they were forced to hold prayers outside the mosque after some received intimidating calls from Harambee House.
Now as 2017 draws closer with political landscapes changing, Joho is fast cementing his position in national politics and as a high-ranking, muslim leader to command the Kenya Muslim community. A section of the Muslim community has already endorsed him for 2022 presidency. A vibrant national Muslim leader has been missing for decades since the demise of the late Shariff Nassir.

Duale is now less than his competition; Joho is the Cord’s/ODM’s man to counter Jubilee’s DP William Ruto. He led the top delegation of ODM team to Wajir where he donated the undisclosed amount of money. They raised shs 11.6 million to expand Madrassa Tul-Taqwa and Al-hudaa, the event was also used to popularize ODM party in the region. DP William Ruto is known for his ‘generous’ contributions, the man he is mostly likely face in the ballot in 2022 is also doing the same.

  • Authenticity Of Duale Development In Garissa In Focus, Constructed Tarmac Road Leads To His Hotel and Estate Only

Authenticity Of Duale Development In Garissa In Focus, Constructed Tarmac Road Leads To His Hotel and Estate Only

Majority Leader Aden Duale has been on an extensive tour in his Garissa Town Constituency where he’s trying to recapture with Farah Maalim former speaker and an ODM affiliate giving him a mad chase for his money. During his tour, the legislator put up a publicity show on Twitter with trends awash with all the projects he attributes to himself.

It didn’t take long before the trend #DualeDevelopsGarissa was taken over by Kenyans who used it to ridicule his supposed to development projects. Most commentators mocked Duale for taking credits on projects that were even initiated by organizations like the World Bank.

    Medina Hospital Owned by Duale
    Medina Hospital Owned by Duale

Several residential sources in Garissa, contacted Kenya Insights to reveal some behind the scenes in the development fiasco and the findings are startling. Duale unveiled the five Kilometer Dekabure Rd, but we learn the Rd could have been used to serve personal interest of the MP. The Road as it turns out only serves Duale’s Medina Hospital and ends just 20M from his upcoming estate. Our sources believe, Duale rushed the projects to improve easy access to his new ventures, the hospital, and property which are about 250M apart but lay along the newly constructed tarmac road. Residents are wondering why he didn’t complete the remaining 1.5KM remaining and only to cut it short at his premises.

The contractors preferred by Duale and who also doubles as his business associates only identified to Kenya Insights as Ogle(Mula) and Catalina who supposedly give Duale a 25% incentive on every road contract awarded, are doing shoddy jobs in the constituency. The two are the ones allegedly he awards the contracts. Duale is also being accused of taking a Sh50M from the contractor of the World Bank funded Sewerage Project which was also haphazardly done.

Duale's upcoming estate metres away from the hospital
Duale’s upcoming estate metres away from the hospital

Imported democracy in NEP and negotiations have pumped new energy to the scared Duale forcing him to go on a constituency tour overdrive and hastened developments. In this system, Elders sit down and in the process of sharing seats, decide to bring an outside from a different subclan who do not reside from the constituency to be given the MP seat. Someone who has never been in that constituency is made the MP.

So Duale subclan ceded Garissa township MP seat for another subclan… Duale was to move to Balambala CONSTITUENCY to square it out with Abdi K – ODM where he stood to loose.

Upon Realising he had zero chance of coming back, it was tym to splash money as residents tell KI. He bought every influential leader, all the elders, hurriedly started doing some projects like roads, harambee everywhere, donating buses, (things he didn’t do for the past 8 years he was an MP in Garissa)

The Farah maalim candidacy also made him go closer to the people. Residents say they started seeing Duale in Garissa the moment Farah maalim declared interest.

Mbalambala is CORD zone. He couldn’t win against current MP Abdikadir so he negotiated his ways to remain in Garissa Town where the eldersendorsement and tribal card would give him an upper hand against Farah.

Now Duale family amassed enough wealth and are likely to use millions to keep things in their favor – maintain status quo the residents believe.
