A devastating fire struck the University of Nairobi’s Gandhi Wing Wednesday night, causing extensive damage to the historic building, Gandhi Wing.

The blaze, which reportedly originated from a gas leak at the Arziki Restaurant, quickly spread to the Senior Common Room and Taifa Hall before firefighters could contain it.

Central OCPD Stephen Okal reported that while the initial fire was contained past midnight, a second outbreak occurred at dawn around 5 AM on Thursday, prompting the fire brigade to return to the scene.

Although no injuries were reported, the incident resulted in significant property damage to the administration offices and other facilities housed within the structure.

The Gandhi Wing also houses the institution’s Finance department and other key administrative offices.
