A University of Nairobi student has been arraigned in court for receiving ksh 1.3 million from a litigant by falsely pretending that he could assist in ensuring that favourable bench judges are appointed to hear the pending appeal.

The accused Anthony Muchui Manyara said to have received the amount in the year 2023, and the same was to be delivered to the president of the court appeal justice Daniel Musinga.

The accused denied the criminal charge before Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi, and he was released on cash bail of ksh 100,000 plus one conduct person.

The court gave him an alternative bond of ksh 200,000 plus one surety.

The court further ordered the accused not to get into contact with the complainant, Mary wagaki, who has since expressed fear for her life.

The matter will be mentioned on 20th August for pretrial conference.
